A Chairman Who Has No Regrets - Chapter 171
Only Noblemtl
Episode 171 – Leverkusen (6)
After finishing our meal and having a simple tea time to help with digestion, we felt it was time to get up from our seats, so we called Cha Geun-beom.
“brother.”
“Oops, I can’t get used to it.”
Cha Geun-beom nods his head and looks at me.
“I’m going to get up now, I think he’s going to have to train again.”
“Are you going to go play ball?”
Taesu nodded in response to Cha Geun-beom’s question.
“Yes, senior. The entrance test is the day after tomorrow.”
“It’s not good to push yourself too hard.”
“It’s okay because it’s fun now.”
Cha Geun-beom smiled and said.
“Come here.”
The place you come out after passing the living room.
There was a room with one wall made of mirrors and simple exercise equipment placed there.
“Let me teach you some stretching.”
Taesu and I obediently followed Cha Geun-beom’s instructions and brought yoga mats and sat down on either side of him.
“The river will help you too. It’s flexible, so you won’t lose anything.”
“yep.”
We started listening to Cha Geun-beom’s stretching class without any hesitation.
“Ugh.”
Taesu tried to follow Cha Geun-beom, but it wasn’t easy to keep up with him, who had great flexibility. I was surprised too. His body felt like some kind of mollusk, so much so that I thought he would have been successful even if he had done gymnastics instead of soccer.
“The reason I can play so many games is because of this stretching, so make sure you do it every day without missing it.”
“Thank you, senior!”
For sports players, injuries are always a threat. Sometimes, minor injuries can cause players to stop playing, so injuries are something to always be on guard against.
It was not at all unreasonable for Taesu to say thank you so loudly. It was because Cha Geun-beom taught us with such passion and sincerity that he was sweating profusely.
He didn’t just teach me the movements, but he kindly taught me how to feel how each movement activates this muscle and that muscle, pressing it with his fingers.
“Do you understand everything?”
“Yes! I definitely memorized it.”
Cha Geun-beom snickers at Tae-soo’s words.
Then he threw a soccer ball at Taesu and said.
“Try trapping it.”
Taesu swallowed hard and started trapping with a very nervous look on his face.
“Put more tension on the tips of your feet.”
“Like this?”
“Oh, right. Make it head height.”
Ting, ting, ting.
“This time, waist high.”
Ting ting ting.
“Good job, this time you’ll barely touch the ceiling.”
Ting, ting, ting.
“Good? Now let’s take turns doing all three.”
The last order was a bit difficult, as Taesu was unable to control the height of the ball, and the ball hit the ceiling and came down quickly.
At some point, Taesu pretends to forget about his surroundings and starts to focus on trapping alone. And Cha Geun-beom and I quietly watch him do so.
“Are you talented?”
“Well, you’re doing well.”
“He’s a tough guy, so he’ll do well.”
“okay?”
“Yes, since yesterday is the first time he has had proper training, I think his potential for development in the future is limitless.”
Cha Geun-beom tilted his head and said.
“Yesterday was your first time training on your own?”
“Yes, because up until now I was just a kid who played neighborhood soccer.”
“Weren’t you playing as a youth athlete in Korea?”
“I received many invitations to join the soccer club, but I never joined.”
Cha Geun-beom looks at me with surprised eyes.
“You were really just a normal student?”
“Yes, he was a student. He was third in the whole school.”
“What…”
Cha Geun-beom looks at Tae-soo, who is now adjusting his height, with an expression of disbelief. Cha Geun-beom says with a slightly excited expression, wondering if something looks different.
“Why on earth didn’t you play soccer?”
A look of incomprehension fills his face.
“Money.”
“Um… Are things difficult?”
“Well, things are better these days.”
“That’s good. I asked about talent earlier, right?”
“yes.”
Cha Geun-beom said with a confident face.
“If this is your first time training like you said, get his autograph.”
“yes?”
“He’s amazing.”
“Will it be worth the money?”
Cha Geun-beom chuckles at my question.
“Is that his autograph?”
“yes.”
“Maybe because it’s the first sign?”
“okay.”
Cha Geun-beom, who was thinking about something, said while scratching the area near Gureotnaru.
“It’s a bit weird to put so much effort into the entrance test.”
“Yes, I disagree with that, because incompetent parachutes don’t really help development.”
“I’ll give you some training.”
It seems like Taesu has caught Cha Geun-beom’s attention. Maybe that hot passion has melted his heart.
“You should tell that to him, not me.”
“Looking at you, it seems like you would die if you said that.”
“Well, that’s not wrong either.”
“You’re going to hear a lot of people say you act like an old man.”
“Listen.”
“Anyway, is it okay?”
“I’m grateful, right? I think he’s grateful too. It seems like he’s already taken a liking to your training.”
Cha Geun-beom nods his head.
Taesu was laughing out loud every time he succeeded in trapping while adjusting the height, so he seemed to be truly enjoying it.
“By the way, hyung.”
“Yeah, why?”
“Well, it seems like you’re okay materially. Do you need anything else? As a player?”
Cha Geun-beom chuckles again.
“Well, if I talk, will you listen?”
“It’s nothing special, but I was thinking about getting a sponsorship.”
He looks at me with his eyes wide open.
“Do you know what sponsorship is?”
“Yes, I know.”
“Didn’t you say you were a goblin?”
“That’s true too.”
“Where is your father the president?”
“Haha, no, my father passed away. It’s true that my mother is the owner, but I’m not asking her to sponsor my restaurant.”
“then?”
“Do you know Pfeiffer?”
He nods his head.
“Because I am a Pfeiffer shareholder.”
“Were you rich?”
“Well, is that what you plan to do?”
“weird…”
Cha Geun-beom tilted his head and imagined something. I thought maybe the images of my sisters and mother were coming to mind.
“Anyway, PFEX is an official sponsor for the upcoming Olympics and Asian Games, right? I think it would be good to receive personal sponsorship as well.”
“Well, I’m satisfied with what the club gives me.”
“I wanted to give it to you, so would you please accept it?”
“why?”
I said it without hiding or adding anything.
“Because it makes money.”
“I?”
“Yes, maybe.”
Cha Geun-beom tilts his head.
“It benefits me too, so just okay?”
“If you offer me something, I don’t have to accept it. Okay.”
“We will support you with a dedicated physical team.”
“Not like that either?”
“Yes, I just happened to find someone useful.”
“Because it’s physical…”
He nodded his head after thinking about something for a moment.
“Yeah, not bad.”
“Yes, then let’s sign the contract after the game, and I’ll send you the physical team that day. I’m sure you’ll be very satisfied.”
“You’re so confident, isn’t our team’s medical team no slouch either?”
“It will be great.”
“Well, that’s what it is.”
He glanced at Taesu and spoke quietly.
“I’ll go first, please turn it around diligently.”
“Haha, okay. I’ll send it after making a lot of noise.”
“yep!”
I returned to the hotel, put down my phone, and picked up the phone.
It’s past 4pm local time, so it’s probably morning in Korea. It’s a little early to be going to work, but I think he’s probably already gone to work.
-Yes, I got the call.
“Has Chief Choi Tae-woong arrived at work?”
-Yes, excuse me, but may I tell you where it is?
“Please call me Jeon Gang.”
-I’ll connect you right away.
Soon his voice is heard on the other end of the phone.
-Oh, instructor, are you enjoying your trip?
“It’s not that bad.”
-Haha, isn’t it the middle of the afternoon there now? You should be sightseeing hard. Why are you calling?
“I’m thinking about signing a sponsorship deal.”
-Sponsorship?
“I just met Cha Geun-beom in Leverkusen.”
-Oh! Cha-boom!
“Yes, I would like to sign a personal sponsorship contract under the name of Ppex.”
I can hear a snicker on the other end of the phone.
-If the second largest shareholder says so, then we should do it.
“Please fax me the sponsorship agreement and I will sign it and fax it back to you.”
-Okay. What’s the content?
“Sporting equipment and, individual physical teams, and agents.”
-So Pfeiffer is responsible for those three costs?
“In the case of agents, it is only a small part, but for now.”
-Does the instructor look after the physical team and agent separately?
“Yes, I have someone in mind.”
-Okay, let’s do that.
I nodded and added.
“Is the personal sponsorship of the players you mentioned still ongoing?”
-Yes, we are personally sponsoring the players you mentioned. We are focusing on boxers, basketball players, and baseball players in particular. We are also sponsoring archery, as you mentioned.
He nodded.
Preparations were being made step by step. The preliminary elections were costing a little more than I had initially thought, but the players I had chosen were those who would be active in the upcoming Asian Games and Olympics.
“Starting with player Cha Geun-beom, I think it would be a good idea to start promoting it now.”
-Oh, I guess it’s finally that time.
“Please don’t be too blatant in your publicity, and quietly leak it to the reporters you know, as if Kyung-seon and Ppex were quietly supporting struggling athletes.”
-Yes, I understand.
“International calls are expensive, so I’ll hang up now.”
-Hahaha, I understand. Have a nice trip.
I hung up the phone and laid down on the bed. I don’t know how long it’s been since I’ve had this much free time. I’m used to always being busy. The stretching that Cha Geun-beom taught me seems to have been effective, as my body feels refreshed.
The moment when you feel like taking a nap.
Bam.
“hey.”
I thought I knew who it was just by hearing the voice.
“There is something called knocking.”
“Don’t knock when you come into my little brother’s room. What are you doing?”
“When entering the room of a teenager who is in the midst of developing secondary sexual characteristics, knocking seems to be extremely important.”
“Do you want to die?”
Crackle crackle.
Finally, I hit my head on the bed and straightened my back.
“why?”
“I’m bored.”
“You said you were resting today.”
“Still, I’m bored.”
“There’s a market in front of me. Do you want to go there?”
“Oh- good.”
The younger sister slams the door shut and runs off somewhere. It’s probably to go to her room and call her mother and older sister.
“Shut up.”
As I went out of the room, my older sister and mother came out wearing thin cardigans. They must have had a good rest, because their skin texture definitely looked better than yesterday.
“Huh? Son.”
“Oh, Mom.”
“Where did Taesu go? Is he still practicing soccer?”
I nodded.
“Yeah, my brother Cha Geun-beom said he’d teach me how to play soccer, so I’m practicing soccer at his house right now.”
The older sister opens her eyes wide and asks.
“Can Cha Geun-beom teach you soccer?”
“Oh, so that’s what they say?”
“Oh my, that person seems so nice. He really is a good person.”
“That’s right. You must be having a hard time promoting the national prestige all by yourself in a foreign land, and now you’re taking care of young students too.”
“There must be a reason why successful people are successful, Mom.”
“Tae-su would be great. Isn’t Cha Geun-beom the best soccer player in our country?”
Well, it might depend on the position, but what my mother said wasn’t exactly wrong, so I nodded my head.
“Because I learned from the best, Taesu will become the best too-”
The expressions of the older sisters and mother suddenly brightened, perhaps because they were happy or wished that Taesu would do well.
“This is not the time. Shouldn’t we do something more to help those who are working hard in foreign lands for our country?”
“That’s right! Taesu said he’ll take care of it too!”
“Well… I guess I have to pay tuition to the tutor too.”
Well, why would it go that way?
“What would be good… I don’t think it would be polite to give it in money.”
“Yeah, um…”
“Son, what do you think Cha Geun-beom likes?”
I can picture him smiling happily with a radish in his mouth.
“kimchi?”
My mother said with a pleased smile.
“okay?”
“huh.”
The older sister clapped her hands and said.
“Mom! Should I buy some kimchi ingredients on the way to the market and make some kimchi for you?”
“Oh my, oh my, that’s good, kid-”
“Why did you come all the way to Germany to make kimchi?”
My little sister answers my question with interest.
“Wouldn’t it be fun? Making kimchi with foreign ingredients.”
“That can’t be considered a trip-”
My mother, older sister, and younger sister were already excited.
“There are onions, right?”
“There was a dance last time.”
“There was ginger too?”
“It’s all there – it’s all there.”
No one hears my screams.
