EP.436 The starting point and the ending point [Complete]
Today is the day to inspect the main body of Artemis.
He wears a white lab coat over his repairman’s uniform. His hair is tied up in his wife’s favorite gangster style.
As the bulkhead leading to the most critical area of the shelter opened, a cylindrical device reminiscent of a monolith came into view.
Artemis’ body is resting in the incubator.
So that she can fully concentrate on the day of maintenance, which is the most important and enjoyable ritual for her.
Because I like this maintenance time more than having sex with you.
[You’re late.]
“Sorry, I had to go to the bathroom.”
[There’s nothing I can do about it.]
Thanks to going through so many incidents and experiences, I have become more tolerant of physiological phenomena. I no longer recommend suture surgery, even as a joke, like I used to.
“Now that I know what urination tastes like, I don’t bother doing it anymore.”
[You’re so nice to hear.]
The tone was reminiscent of the veins on her forehead, but she had no way of retaliate now.
Because there is no palm to hit your back or foot to kick your butt.
I put down the maintenance tools and bag I had brought.
[Your expression is good. Are you glad that Solaver came back alive?]
“Of course. He was a comrade who risked his life to be with you until the end of the universe. Aside from that, he is also a respectable person as an adult. It’s not bad news for you either, is it?”
[joy!]
Artemis’ passion for science is endless.
A spaceship that lands on Earth is like an inexhaustible spring that satisfies that desire.
The problem is that even if we understand it little by little technically, there is no material on Earth to experiment with and study it.
From a cosmic perspective, the Earth was a wasteland of resources.
As Solaver said, he was so moved that he sighed, ‘Is such a big war fought over nothing more than oil?’
But this has been resolved.
Salvage operations were in full swing from five large cargo ships that had landed in the sea in front of the shelter.
This will make enormous progress in scientific research that had been at a standstill.
[If you try to seduce my husband again, I’ll strap you to a rocket and shoot you out of the atmosphere!]
It’s too terrifying a force to be passed off as a joke.
“I won’t go. No matter what the old man says, I won’t go.”
[Really? Can you swear?]
“Our daughter calls me ‘Daddy’, walks with me, runs with me, kisses me on the cheek, goes into the ocean with me, fireworks, rides around the shelter on the chairlift, competes in various sports at the cultural center. There are so many things she wants to do, and how can I risk missing them?”
[There are a lot.]
“This is only a small part. In Interstellar, the main character went to space and came back, and decades had passed. I was lucky and it only lasted three years. I never want to go on an adventure like that again.”
[I don’t age. I can wait for you for 100 years, 1000 years. Are you going to wait? I’ll search the entire universe to find you.]
I patted her body with the back of my hand!
“He never mentioned his daughter until the very end.”
One of the most touching scenes in the movie, now I just laugh it off.
“Anyway, my journey is over. As a former soldier and as an expedition leader, this is my complete retirement.”
[Voice reliability 98.8%. Well, I’ll believe you at this level.]
“Besides, since the inspiration is here, won’t I be able to spend more time with you?”
[What are you talking about?]
“You’re the greatest diplomat in the universe. I’m already having a hard time with the foreign affairs issue, so I think it’ll be easier if you step forward.”
[That’s not a bad idea!]
Artemis also seems excited about the prospect of spending more time together.
Pot.
The garden at the top of Shelter Rock Mountain was reflected on the wall screen.
Smile! Smile!
There is Luna riding on the horse of the inspiration of Solaver.
Riding the horse will be a total blast thanks to the crown-like horns unique to the Exos race.
It was chaos, like I was piloting an airplane, holding the inspiration’s horn and shaking it this way and that.
[Hehehe! Do you like Grandpa’s horns that much?]
[Kyahahaha!]
He had swimming in his arms.
Because the arms are long and thick enough to reach the ground, a small baby can lie down on them like a bed.
[…]
As always, the calm swimming looked at the old man with a curious face and tugged at his tuft of beard.
It seems that he likes the feel of something thick and solid, unlike a human’s.
[Suyeong-ah! Mr. Solaver is sick. You shouldn’t pull your beard.]
Seyoung tried to stop him by yelling.
[It’s okay, it’s okay. The beards of our species are closer to horns than body hair in terms of structure. Even if babies pull on them, it won’t tickle.]
The inspiration slowly lowered the arm that Suyeong was sitting on.
Then, Suyeong grabbed his beard and started hanging there.
[Oh my gosh!]
[Our princess is also strong!]
Seyoung is surprised and Solaver laughs happily.
[Eww! My, my beard is not okay!]
[Whoa?! Gyahot!]
Alyssa smiles innocently, pulling hard at her gray beard in the arms of her husband, Hudson.
The video ended with that scene.
[Let’s have fun now. From now on, I’ll have fun being a diplomat. Jinsoo, you can just fool around with me.]
Since I was the one who brought it up first, I couldn’t say anything to my wife who was smiling sinisterly.
Mr. Solaver! Please don’t die from overwork!

This place is the only space that is forever unchanging, just for me and Artemis.
Neither the other AI assistants, nor Seyoung and Nina, nor even my descendants can enter. This is an area that is only permitted to me.
All you see are clean walls. There is no decoration, just cleanliness.
“The outside has changed so much, but being here makes me feel like I’ve gone back in time.”
[When did you first meet?]
“There was a time when I would bow down to the higher-ups and get scolded for delaying work, and you were a depressed queen in your own way.”
[I hope you gradually forget about that.]
“How could I forget? It’s a memory as important to me as the electronic album you carefully kept.”
When Artemis first arrived, she worked day and night without even washing properly before being placed in the shelter.
We then and we now would be no different in appearance, except for our hairstyles.
Not only did she look like a statue, but I also hardly aged at all.
Thanks to this, whenever I come here, I feel like I’ve gone back in time.
Click click.
We used various maintenance tools to carefully manage even the parts that we normally wouldn’t inspect.
[Why are you so delicate today?]
Artemis’ voice is filled with satisfaction.
“I guess talking about old times brought back memories. When you first arrived, I set up here as if I was living here.”
I pretended to run a wrench across my chin.
“Do you remember how you told me to shave because you hated seeing all those stubble sticking out?”
[Of course I remember. I came here with a cut on my chin because I was shaving in a hurry.]
“The princess who was as cold as ice was flustered because of a small wound. She was quite cute, wasn’t she?”
It seems that the incident was the starting point for her attitude to soften a little.
[It was the first time I saw blood. And I felt sorry because it happened because of my request.]
“You’re seeing this for the first time? Don’t NASA people live off coffee and coffee beans?”
[You’ve gotten older, too. You’re making such boring manager jokes. Well, I guess it makes sense since you’ll be in your 40s in a few years.]
“Ahem!”
[I saw a lot of nosebleeds during my time at NASA. But this was the first time I saw blood caused by an injury I had caused.]
Since then, Artemis has been rambling about her life at NASA, something she rarely does.
It took a while for the work to progress like that.
He put down his tools and wiped the sweat from his forehead with a handkerchief. Just a little more work to do.
[Thank you for your hard work. It feels so refreshing.]
But Artemis declared the work over.
“Is there still anything left?”
[Enough already. Leave that for later and take a rest.]

Artemis’ voice was satisfied.
I sat comfortably on the ground and looked up at the ceiling. More precisely, the sky beyond it.
“Do you still want to go to the moon?”
[Of course. It’s been my long-time dream.]
“Should I be there too?”
[Isn’t that obvious? If you’re not by my side, what’s the point of going to the moon? Even on the moon that I pioneered, I still have to sign and give orders.]
“Oh no. I still like life on Earth. My parents and my daughters are becoming more and more important to me.”
[There won’t be a problem.]
Artemis seems to be worried about something.
[Because I can wait.]
“I don’t think you’ll get tired of living here easily. Just look at the stubborn old man Hudson coming. I might get caught up too when my daughters start having children.”
[I have eternal time. If it’s not difficult to wait without you, waiting with you isn’t difficult at all.]
The story flows smoothly, as if the decision had been made a long time ago.
[Jinsoo, I will wait as long as you want until you lose interest in this world and want to go somewhere.]
“Oh my, thank you.”
[They say that between couples, there is nothing better than saying thank you.]
I leaned against her body.
A faint vibration and gentle heat are felt from the back.
This is how I communicated with Artemis before she had a physical body.
Vibration like a heartbeat, heat like body temperature. Artemis also had different programs for this and provided various variations.
“Artemis.”
A moment of silence.
“love you.”
[I love you. I’m sooo …
It made me laugh.
“It was read.”
[Haha, I guided you.]
“Yeah, yeah.”
I closed my eyes. I concentrated on the sound of Artemis’s heartbeat coming from my ears and back.
All the pieces of the puzzle of happiness I’ve ever wanted in my life have come together.
Artemis is the puzzle board itself. She is a friend, colleague, supporter, and loving wife who has been with me from beginning to end.
“I will dedicate my life to repaying you. Everything you have done for me.”
[You’re saying something obvious.]
“Yes. Of course. No matter how much I think about it, I wouldn’t have been this happy if I hadn’t met you in my life.”
[How did you become so mature?]
“Is it because you’re too happy? There’s a saying that goes, “When happiness is too much, people become cautious for fear of losing it.”
A loving wife and daughters, loyal subordinates, friends, respected mentors, elders in the family, abundance and peace.
All the treasures I thought I would never have in my life are now by my side.
[There’s nothing to be afraid of. I’ll protect you. Jinsu, and everything else that makes you happy.]
The lights go out and darkness falls. A quiet peace blesses us.
[I love you, my husband. I really do.]
At our starting point and destination, where no one can disturb us.
BONUS Final Review
Dear readers, this is old news.
My first work, a science fiction novel full of uncompromising romance.
That long journey has come to an end today.
As I said several times during the series, when I started, I planned to finish it before episode 100.
Since it was my debut work, I put everything into it without thinking about the future and tried to learn from my failures.
‘Why did you have to break up with GLaDOS? Just get along well with your alcoholic friend at Aperture Science.’
‘Why do killer robots always appear as enemies? Wouldn’t it be fun to lead the genes and cause trouble?’
‘Colonel Autumn! I admire your vision for sustainable reconstruction. Let’s wipe out the Boohoo together and save the wasteland.’
A novel filled with the author’s romanticism like the above has been revealed to the world!
When I first heard the news of my award, I was more scared than happy.
The novel was already in a spaghetti code state. It was a situation where incompatible elements were on the verge of causing dissonance.
In particular, the side effects of the robot army that readers praised were very serious.
It was fun to use robot action, but it acted as poison that blocked the protagonist’s reason for danger and adventure.
If you just say ‘click!’ in the shelter, it’s obvious that there will be a lot of complaints that it’s not fun.
I had a hard time trying to figure out a way to give the main character a reason to leave.
It was more difficult to proceed within the constraints of science, rather than in a world where gate elements or surreal systems existed.
Should I say that I feel like Keanu Reeves, the main character in the movie Speed?
A bus with a bomb installed that explodes when you step on the brakes!
I have to run no matter what, but I can already see a dead end?
Whether you go straight or stop, the novel explodes with a bang!
From that moment on, my X-show began.
Ignoring traffic signals, driving and ramming stopped cars, crossing the center line and driving in the wrong direction, going through guardrails and driving on rice paddy ridges.
Readers may have often felt that the direction of the novel changed suddenly.
It was all a mad dash to save the novel from an explosion (of sorts).
Of course, these are all excuses and the cause is my lack of ability as a writer.
It was entirely thanks to the precious love and support of our readers that we were able to come this far.
I learned so much along the way.
If we compare this novel to a game, the main quest is completed by returning to Earth with the vaccine.
The scene where he reunites with Artemis will be the ending credits.
But I thought the readers would be disappointed if I ended it there.
‘And so the two of them overcame their trials and lived happily ever after!’
There may be some people who shout out to the story that ends like this:
‘No! Don’t go! Show me how to live happily!’
‘Shouldn’t you at least show us your honeymoon?!’
‘I don’t want to have a baby. I just want to see our newlywed life where our hearts pound just by making eye contact!’
I was also a reader who sympathized with that.
I was also curious about the influence that the strengthened shelter would have on its surroundings.
So, as I continued to add more stories that were more like epilogues, I ended up writing close to 200 more episodes even though the staff roll went up.
There’s nothing left to squeeze out.
Maybe because it was my first work, I felt regretful as it neared completion.
The journey of my carefully crafted characters has come to an end.
Now even I, the writer, am leaving for a place I can no longer see.
Whenever I thought about that, my heart would ache.
But if there is a beginning, there must be an end.
The cruise ship is sailing far beyond its original course.
Resources and fuel are depleted, the ship is old, and inside it is saturated with new life.
If so, it is time to end your journey as captain.
An apocalypse shelter manager who is full of the stubbornness and romance of an unprepared writer!
I would like to thank the readers who gave me strength to make it to chapter 437 of this novel.
My next work is going to be written right away. It’s a low-power medieval fantasy.
Of course, from now on we will have to compromise.
Sushi made by the feet of a goddess.
Ride your wife instead of the waves on a surfboard in the ocean.
A footjob given under the table in a restaurant without anyone knowing.
Jeonla Harem Bowling Tournament.
I guess we’ll have to wait for someone else to write something like this in the future.
Wow, it seems that a lot of things are possible when people don’t compromise.
When I write a novel, the more I review it, the longer it becomes, and the more I write a review, the longer it becomes.
A long separation is bound to be sad. I guess I’ll end it here.
