Episode 125. Those Who Cannot Sell the Legend
When Wei Qi was telling his story in his later years, Datang was under a national isolation order.
They thought that the isolation order would be lifted after seeing Ol Chaun visit Dimanang to hear Wei Qi’s story and spread the word, but Ol Chaun really just listened to Wei Qi’s story and went back.
“what?”
As mentioned earlier, the main premise that these races export their culture to earn foreign currency has been denied, and they have turned into pirates and bandits, madly attacking Dimanang, Daesurim, Daemokjang, and Jore west of Datang, which is effectively a vassal state.
Although the isolationist decree was somewhat relaxed later, there was nothing that could be done about those who had discovered this ‘taste of theft.’
“You guys can’t sail anyway, right? Yeah, we’re going out to sea.”
“You damn bastards who are going to burn to death!!!”
There is already a slight ill feeling. Dimanang is still barely surviving on the handouts of Datang as a vassal or tributary state, and especially the magic tower and factory of Luzar where Weiki worked are still alive, so they are able to block pirates with their magic civilization… … .
The limitations of Datang, who could not have a ‘navy’, were more clear than ever. The only way Datang could respond was to give a huge amount of money to the border states of Jor, Seiwamuyu, and Dimanang and have them fight a proxy war.
They were loyal, of course, but did they trust us completely? Well, I don’t know.
“Can’t the ‘sea’s’ Anlair appear? Someone who can sail to Daton, train a navy, or create a sea spirit… … .”
Unfortunately, he doesn’t show up. Daton is a beer bottle who can’t stand being out at sea, ever since All Chaun was laid to rest and woke up.
Nononono Hakang made up a fairly amusing story about how, in exchange for picking up fire that fell from the sky, he was cursed to never be able to enter the sea, which is water that rises from the ground… … . It’s just a biological reason.
“If you use about 1,000 donums a day, you can maintain enough horsepower to sail around Daton.”
“If you dig that deep, will it come out?”
“Umm… … .”
Eventually, sailing is completely abandoned. Isolationism deepens as sailing, the most expansive means of transportation, is abandoned.
Instead, Datang has a blessed land, perhaps the most blessed in the whole world.
First of all, the area. It is twice as large as the land of a thousand years that occupied the entire Northern Yang in later times.
There are various natural environments because it is so vast. There are only Datorya swamps and grasslands, but even these are abundant, and if you go out to the outskirts, you will find various lands that are good for farming.
In particular, the northernmost Dimanang in the Iral River basin, and the southernmost part of the continent of Olsojora, south of Shujor and where Seiwamuyu once existed, are incredibly fertile lands where grains from these two places alone can supply about a quarter of Datang’s food supply.
And abundant natural resources. A treasure trove of nature with no minerals or biological resources. It is the oldest land, yet almost no destruction of nature has occurred due to spirit magic.
And above all, it has the overwhelming characteristic of being the only super-super-super-super-high-power-area in the world that is ‘good for people to live in’. There is also a super-super-super-super-high-power-area in the North Sea. The polar regions are also super-super-super-super-high-power-area. The problem is that it is a land where ‘people’ cannot live. But what about Datang? There is no history of the resource called magic being depleted. Therefore, the resource called mystery, military power, is also infinite.
Are you being beaten by the whole world? Are you isolated all over the world? It doesn’t matter. To Datang people, Datang is the world. It would take a lifetime for Datang to make a pilgrimage to all of Datang. It would be impossible to visit all of Datang’s attractions without dying of old age. Even All Chaun couldn’t do that.
But, from the perspective of other countries and peoples, it wasn’t like that at all.
“There isn’t enough dough.”
Everyone says it with one voice. In ‘Eron’, the land of the Erins, in ‘Baekkara’, the land of the Baekans, and in Lokoro, the castle of the Nanyang Iyakans, everyone feels it.
There’s a severe shortage of mystical items that allow you to use mystical powers just by using this.
Even though the supply is gradually decreasing.
“It’s gotten worse since the isolation order was issued. There’s a limit to how much you can earn by stealing.”
“Demand has even increased. Look at this.”
It is a spirit weapon engraved with the spirit characters of Datang. It is rechargeable, and if you are in a high-power area, it will gradually recover, and if not, you can use the Donum to quickly recharge.
Simply put, it is an item that allows even untrained ordinary people to use mysticism, including spirit magic, to a limited extent.
“Because of this item that can only be made in Datang, the trade deficit has actually increased. Datang is making huge profits by making this from the same material as Donum.”
“But without this, war is impossible. It is not easy to train masters who have trained in the mystic arts. If you do not have these weapons that allow you to arm yourself with wealth, you will have to buy magic weapons from the Dimanang region and use them.”
“That’s more expensive than this, and it’s a defective product that requires the user to read the movements of celestial bodies! It’s better to just buy a donum and use it.”
At this time, the number of so-called ‘foreign workers’ also increased significantly.
They say they are foreign workers, but the mixed race people from Datang somehow get permission to enter the country, work hard in Datang, or whatever, and return to their hometown. Then, with 10 years of work in Datang, they can live comfortably in their hometown for the rest of their lives.
“It’s ridiculous that the condition for entering that damn country is ‘blood ties’… … .”
No matter how capable you are, even if you are a rookie, if you are not a Daturn or a mixed-blood, you are just a ‘friend’. Otherwise, you are a member of the Mainiran family, such as Quako, Rulmo, or Gigaguard.
This is a policy that has never changed under any circumstances. The word “datang” itself comes from the meaning of “family.”
Already, each country is thinking about war. Now, of course, Datang is powerful. It is an ideal country that has realized absurd politics where all the people are happy because it is so powerful.
But that is because we are ultimately giving up all unnecessary foreign affairs, reducing the military as much as possible, and investing all remaining resources in the happiness and welfare of the people.
If other countries, like Shuzor did in the old days, were to gather all their resources into their military and wage a single war, what could be impossible for that rich and powerful country to shake? … Even if they just increase their navy like crazy, there would be no answer for Datang.
But, I can’t do it now. So here’s how:
First, robbery. It is a nationwide robbery. Although there were protests in Datang, they could not control it. In fact, it seemed as if they were encouraging it. The robbers of that era were so vicious that they could not cross the Great Forest, so they crossed the desert in the northwest, made a fortune in Datang, and then returned through the desert.
Second, trade. It is not that exchanges have been cut off completely, so they buy things even if it costs a lot of money. Datang also does not avoid trade if it is profitable.
Third, storytelling. The best storytellers are welcomed all over the world. Praise is given to clowns and actors who earn a lot of foreign currency. The trend of professionally training them continues to this day.
“This method won’t work. We need to solve the problem fundamentally.”
“What if it’s a fundamental solution?”
“If the problem is that we can only make donum-datang, why don’t we make donum-datang too?”
This is the age of infiltration and espionage. Here’s the plan.
First, we must go to Datang by any means necessary, whether it be across the desert or through the great forest.
Second, there will be a place where the coins are produced, a so-called ‘mint’. Go there.
Third, he returns home after finding out how to produce the coin from the mint.
It’s simple, right? This simple strategy, this simple method, Erin and Baekhan are stuck for two thousand years.
And they all fail. There’s a reason they fail.
“Why are there so many illegal immigrants? Paron Echacado! Hunt them all down!”
“What if there is a problem? Of course we have to catch and kill them all.”
First of all, the fact that the Paruns, consisting of Anrai Echacado and his subordinates, are frantically hunting down illegal immigrants, makes the difficulty level even higher.
“Hey Erin. Where did you get that medal?”
“Hmm. I got it at Giruak two years ago.”
“I’m asking how Erin earned her medal in the field of psychic arts.”
“… … .”
“Du-tan!!! You’re a spy!”
Secondly, since they are distinguished by race and have a powerful certificate called a medal, it is impossible for people of other races to visit the village.
“Hey fellow pilgrims, I was wondering where the money came from, and do you happen to know where the mint is?”
“Shujor.”
“Shujor… …? Where is that? I come from the north so I don’t know much.”
“Ah. I see. You came down from the north to this holy place, right? This is the middle of Dator. If you go down exactly as far south as you’ve come, you’ll come across the Shuzor River. Then it’s Shuzor.”
“… … The mint?”
“The mint is somewhere in the jungle over there, but we don’t know about it.”
“How big is Shujor?”
“Uh… … . How much is Dator, Daesurim, and Dimanang combined?”
“… … It would take 30 years one way?”
“It won’t take long, right?”
Third. Distance. Crazy distance… … . Unable to rent a spirit water, avoiding the surveillance of the Paruns, the growing number of internal vigilantes, or the real army led by Liwaduwan, the spies who had made their way all the way down to the center of Datang were waiting for the distance they had to go, and the unimaginably vast Shujor Jungle was waiting for them.
You can’t imagine how desperately the spies were to go down south at that time, because once they succeeded, they would get an endless stream of money.
Even among the Datons, there were those who were considered traitors or traitors who tried to sneak into the Mint. That’s why the Mint’s location was changed several times and information was controlled. Liwaduwan worked hard.
Their story was made into all sorts of stories, and even performed by NonoNoNo Hakang. In the end, the spies who went through all sorts of hardships to find Shuzor’s mint were left with nothing but ‘despair’.
“In the high-magic zone created by receiving the magic of the moon that only exists in Shuzor, the Shuzor special bee, the Shuzor special soft magic, the Shuzor special soil, the special water, the special grass, and the special bugs were mixed to create Donum?!”
“Don’t the workers know the exact mixing method because they’re only focused on their own work?”
“Ah, what good is it even if you know the mixing method… …! If you made it using celestial bodies that only exist in Datang, creatures that only live there, and objects, then you wouldn’t have been able to make it in the first place!!!”
It took a thousand years to get to this point. It took another thousand years for the story to reach the north.
After countless attempts and countless digging, the conclusion was that ‘it is impossible to make a donut.’ It was nothing but despair.
But humans are creatures of effort. This fact was revealed and the spies disappeared, but on the contrary, other people appeared.
“After all, it’s not some special mystery or anything, it’s a technique. It’s just that all the materials are in Shujor.”
“There’s no way that Donum can only be made in Shujor. Similar items can be made elsewhere.”
“So how do you make it?”
“… … I have to try everything I can get my hands on.”
Legendary Age 2000. Finally, they break away from the civilization that relied solely on mystery and enter a new realm: creating the desired substance through repeated experiments, theories, and trial and error.
In the distant future, this will be called chemistry. In the old days, when there were no principles yet, this was called this.
It’s called alchemy.
Instead of gold, the ancient alchemists created a substance called donum. And further, the tearful digging of the ancient alchemists.
The enormous effort and the accumulating chemical, magical, and magical-chemical reaction data to become the world’s richest person by artificially completing the Donum.
Who would have thought that it would give birth to a divine being, an invincible being, who had absolutely nothing to do with learning?
Volume 5 review
This is a review for Volume 5 (Chapters 101-125). As always, you don’t have to read it.
-Questions & Answers-
Question 1: There was a setting that the Tocha tribe would die if they entered the high-magic zone and could not enter, but from what level can they enter?
Answer: If you successfully shed your shell, you will be free from some of the biological constraints, including magical power pressure. The degree of shed increases with the second and third sheds, but even if you shed your shell once, Daton, who lives in an ultra-high magical power zone, and Tocha, who lives in a low magical power zone, will not be able to go to each other’s regions. However, it will be different from the second time.
Question 2: Is it possible that the Primordial God could be resurrected through the power of memes?
Answer: If you ask whether it is possible or impossible, then it is possible. However, even if you collect all the memes that exist in this world, you cannot revive the primordial god.
Question 3: I don’t understand Baekkan’s religious concerns. Shouldn’t we just worship the primordial gods or new people as gods? Or Ol Chaun.
Answer: If we compare it to Christianity on Earth, it is a difference in doctrine that can be felt as something like ‘Jesus saved humans’ and ‘We can also become Jesus who saves humans.’ They acknowledge Jesus, that he saved humans, and that there is salvation, but the conclusion is completely different. In particular, Ol Chaun, who is most definitely a new person, is the god of Daton and has no intention of protecting Baekhan, which is even more so.
Question 4: The units used in the work are sometimes in base 12 and sometimes in base 10. Is there a clear reason for this?
Answer: Most of it is an error on the part of the author who uses the decimal system. If I were to give an explanation, I would say the narrator made a mistake during translation, or since the setting is that decimal and duodecimal systems coexist (wizards use the sexagesimal system), they used that unit.
-Saddam-
I’m saying this just in case, but I hope you don’t think that what the ‘character’ of this work says is what the ‘author’ says.
A typical example is the Tocha youth who complained about political correctness. This is a common statement in reality, so it is not the author’s opinion.
And I hope you don’t think that the ‘setting’ of a work is the author’s ideology.
In short, the ‘Cheon-Gyeop’ in the work is the ruler of the nomadic people and at the same time the ruler who rules over all of Beiyang. No matter how you look at it, isn’t this modeled after medieval Mongolia and the modern Soviet Union?
Then do you think Russia should be ruled by the Tatars? If it comes out like that, the author has nothing to say. Uh… I just conveniently took the motif. And I simplified it to the extreme. In short, the ‘East’ in the work is the combined area of Korea, China, Japan, Southeast Asia, and Central Asia. But do we, who live in East Asia, feel a sense of kinship with the Chinese or Japanese? Do we? Then what about Kazakhstan? And Cambodia? But I just conveniently grouped them together.
The purpose is not to unfold real history in fantasy, but to create a country based on reality, so I am writing like this. I believe that everyone is mature enough to do so.
-The best in the world-
Finally, the second newcomer has appeared. As a writer, it is always nerve-wracking to introduce characters who are on the same level as the main character. It is especially difficult to convince them that they are on the same level.
In that respect, I think Cheonhajeilin succeeded in convincing people. Anyone can see that the motif is martial arts + Confucius.
I personally really like Confucius. I also don’t have a negative impression of Confucianism. Korean society tends to blame all the evil practices of society on Confucianism, but I’m not sure. I wish we could at least live up to the standards of Confucian scholars.
This new character, who looks like an orc and an orangutan, has lived his entire life as a swordsman and a gentleman who preaches benevolence, righteousness, and propriety, and he plans to continue to do so. He was actually the main character of volume 5, and I like him because everyone seemed to like him.
-A thousand years-
This is the third new character that was already hinted at in the previous volume. The motif of the name is, of course, the ‘heavenly abyss’ of the current popular fairy tales, but in fact, there is a separate direct character motif. ‘God’s Whip’ Attila + Genghis Khan + Stalin. I don’t know about the other two motifs, but Attila doesn’t come to mind much.
Nomadic peoples are prone to frequent unions and divisions, but this is a great leader who has united the nomads since ancient times and created an immortal empire.
Anyone can see that he is a cruel murderer and a cold-blooded man who purges his subordinates, but he truly cares for his family and country. His personal character is also relatively easygoing and he has no particular interest in luxury. He is a leader whose merits and demerits are very clear.
I think it was easy for me to understand because everyone said, ‘Ah, lol, the Khan of the Nomadic Empire is recognized, lol.’
-Warrior Waiki and the Immortal Squad-
This is a typical fantasy adventure party. It’s not medieval fantasy, but it’s ancient times, but anyway, the six of them got together, went into dungeons, raided relics, leveled up, got promoted, and lived well.
Since this work simply illuminates the story of the Luzar excavation team as a historical event, the battle scenes and action scenes are written roughly and haphazardly. It’s intentional. It’s not that I don’t have confidence in expressing battles and adventures in an interesting way.
Warrior Waiki created the afterlife, and the Baekkans who entered that afterlife eventually became their gods. I thought a lot about the topic of what exactly should the gods of democracy be, and I personally like it because it came to a great conclusion.
-Review review-
I think everyone can feel it. It’s just warming up right now and soon there will be a war or something.
The author knows that too. That’s why I’m worried. What if this doesn’t meet expectations…
What do you know? I write my own articles. If you’ve read this far, you’ll probably only have readers who share my wavelength.
Thank you for reading so far. I’ll see you in the next volume review.
