Episode 182. Real History, Different History
The age of faith is now coming to an end. The world will end with the appearance of the reverse god. The final war will take place before that.
There seem to be many people who want to criticize the invincible and the heavenly abyss. In fact, they do. They deserve to be criticized to some extent.
That’s why the invincible one is notorious even in later generations for being the most incompetent and weak.
Cheon-geop lives well and eats well until the modern era, but his reputation abroad is the worst. It is good for his own people, but that is because he purged all his opponents.
But this is the last war of the era of faith. The final war of the third war period, the thousand-year-old kalpa in which the invincible man who became the evil spirit of the evil horse throws off the human head kalpa and causes the third great expansion of Hanjutamal.
They are ugly, disgusting, and evil. They would be better off disappearing from the world.
There was a sense of duty that made them act this way. Were they born with the inevitability of ruining the world? Well, I don’t know.
The history of the invincible and the past of a thousand eons is truly pitiful and miserable. Their destructive, exclusive, and baseless philosophy of destroying or distorting themselves if they cannot obtain it all originated from such a past.
But is that really a justification for defending them? Well, the facts written in history are just facts. Value judgments come later.
Ol Chaun, who rose to become a great leader through darkness and paradise, went through myths that began with asceticism and legends that began with laughter, and was completed as an even greater leader. His greatness ultimately created Ol Chaun of the Age of Faith, who caused the Oman disaster with his miserable diplomatic skills.
And the end of the Age of Faith brings about a great catastrophe that will make the next age, the aeons and the invincibles seem ridiculous, and eventually he will be laid to rest by the Savior.
People are complex. History is multifaceted.
The invincible one confronts Datang with the solemn heart of a rebel liberator who wants to save his own race. He is upright and righteous in his own righteousness.
Because of his miserable past where he was poisoned, betrayed, and abandoned on the plains, he developed a vicious mindset that he must control the entire world or else destroy it all to be safe.
If history had changed, if Baekhan had treated Erin as a friend rather than a slave, the Invincible would have become the benevolent chieftain of the Erin tribe.
If Cheon-Gae-Ra hadn’t been betrayed by his brothers, he would have run a huge ranch and lived happily with his wife and children until he grew old and died.
This is the realm of alternative history. It is a literature that has been quite popular since the modern era of this world. The two ‘what ifs’ mentioned above are also among the alternative history works that actually exist in this world.
The Good Baekkan scenario was written by the Baekkan tribe. The Good Cheon-Gyeop scenario was written by the Tocha tribe. They both have something in common: they absolutely hate the Erin and Tatap tribes, the races involved.
While we’re on the subject, let’s take a quick look at some alternate history stories from this world before we look at the war. There are surprisingly many interesting scenarios.
All of this is not possible without meeting the fire spirit Datang Oram on a stormy day.
Instead, the one who came to visit the tribe was Moji Palera, who had also visited in the history of the original. The sage of the dark age became Moji Palera’s contractor, and later, after leaving his shell, he ruled Datang as the immortal leader of Ol Chaun.
The symbol of Datang is not fire, but wind, and Ol Chaun instead makes a contract with the swamp demon Happa Jose, and becomes an immortal being, living while respecting his parents.
However, compared to fire, wind and swamp were not such great spirits, so Datang was unified but its civilization did not develop much, and it lived under the pressure of the Shujor below and the Baekkan tribe to the north.
This is the so-called ‘Datang who failed to rule the entire continent of Olsozora’ scenario.
In this worldline, Datang is not a world superpower, and Ol Chaun lives as a mere Anraier who manages the swamp. However, since Da-Jeong Chaun, the true leader, is kind and gentle, his happiness level is still high.
This is the world’s first alternative history. In short, it’s about Datang getting incredibly lucky. Ol Chaun meets Datang Oram and gains the power of fire, and thanks to that, civilization develops.
This is also popular among the Datongs, and the so-called alternate history where another Anrai ruled Datang or where Datang itself was greatly reduced continues to be talked about.
The person involved, Ol Chaun, also liked this kind of alternative history. He is also someone who doesn’t really care about criticism in the first place.
Ol Chaun went out on a stormy night and was struck by lightning and died. In the end, Ol Chaun’s tribe lost its best fire maker, a child died, and as a result, the tribe itself declined and never met Moji Palera.
In this genre, there are two main directions for the work.
First, there is a person who made a contract with the spirit of fire, but he appears much later, and Datang is not a superpower. Normally, expansion continues, and the discovery of Hanjutamal in the south is inevitable, and history is slowed down, so the stagnation period due to Hanjutamal is described as the original world’s mythical era of struggle or unification.
Second, if it wasn’t All Chaun but another Anlai who ruled Datang. At the time when alternative history was popular, the Anlai had already been dead for over 500 years, so they could use it freely without worrying about insulting the deceased.
The Bark tribe won the war against the Daton tribe. Ol’ Chaun was killed by Bark Maja, and Bark Maja eventually gained the power of both fire and wolf and transformed into a saint, becoming an immortal leader.
Due to the harsh discrimination against Daton, Datang became overrun by the Bark tribe and became a beast kingdom filled with beastmen.
The first novel to describe this future had an ending where there were no other Anraiers who had achieved cultural advancement, and Paron Echacado, who defeated Bark Maza, became a god and ruled Datang. It was a diverse future where all races were respected.
In fact, apart from this, Echakado is a bit… how should I put it? He is popular across all races as the antagonist of All Chaun, so he is often called upon as the main character or supporting character in all sorts of novels.
Since All Chaun doesn’t appear, you can’t build Mainnirun and Manum Lapang doesn’t appear either.
Thus, the great genius, Castle Laurent, becomes the first Daton defector and a newcomer.
Through his great wisdom and intelligence, Castle Laurent has created a remarkably scholarly atmosphere in Datan, and all the Datons have achieved a high level of civilization through their great intelligence and reason.
In fact, the historical probability is not correct, but because the image of Castel Laurent as an excellent doctor was strong in later generations, it is often described as if he cured Hanjutamal right away.
There was even an alternative history romance where he married Liwaduwan and formed a perfect civil and military state. The original history was a bit problematic because Kass Loran was asexual and Liwaduwan was single only for religious reasons, but because it was so popular, many people used the couple as if it were some kind of love affair.
The spread of Hanjutamal was too severe. The only civilized tribe left in Datang was the Quako tribe. Their leader, Paldin Koa, developed a large industry based on the ranch, turning Datang into a huge pasture and workshop, and opened up the world of animals and beastmen.
Since Paldin Koa was a kind but strong leader, Datang appeared as a kind of neutral country that no one could attack, but no one attacked it either.
By the way, here too, Paldin Koa dies and dies again. Dying and resurrecting, what is that? It’s kind of like Paldin Koa’s identity. This work was written by people who love animals to the point of being suspicious.
All Chaun did not appear. Datang exists, but it is a weak country. The Pachar tribe was harshly ruled by the Iyakans, and the god of war that appeared there drove out all of Shujor, crossed the Hanjutamal line, and ruled over all of the Datuns and the mixed race of the Bark tribe in Dator, and then left to unite the entire world.
Or, Ol Chaun appeared but did not become a god, or Liwaduwan also became a god and fought against Ol Chaun and won. After winning the Shuzor invasion, Liwaduwan became the leader of Datang, no, the leader of the Great Shuzor Empire, and suppressed all the other gods and armies in an attempt to eat up the entire world, achieving world unification.
This is a topic that really worries me to death. It exists as a genre within the alternate history genre.
In the distant future, there are many die-hard Liwaduwan fans, not only in Patchar but also in other races (there are some Liwaduwan fans among Erin and Baekkan as well), so there are cases where an alternate history story starts from Erin’s point of view, but for some reason, the final boss is not Ol Chaun, but Liwaduwan who swallowed up the continent of Olsojora.
What I wrote above is a kind of genre literature, a case of pursuing high-quality historical novels. After the era of light pulp fiction, the era of web novels has come, and there are many lighter and cheaper novels.
Even the original author himself said, “Why aren’t there any web novels where people are reincarnated as me or possessed by me? If you just say it’s a joke, I won’t sue you, so feel free to write as much as you want.” So the taboo on that side was completely lifted.
However, there are many cases where it usually replaces the old chaun. There are many cases where it is used to flatter others and ends up ruining the country.
Usually, the person who has been possessed either defeats the new Anlair of Datang (often the Anlair of diplomacy) or All Chaun as the final boss, and the author’s original character ascends to the throne as Dakerutang, or even gives the correct answer to Castle Laurent, who is being studied by a modern person who knows the knowledge of the future, and advances Datang’s technology.
There are so many works that treat Castor Laurent like Jang Yeong-sil from a Joseon Dynasty epic, treat Medakbo like Prime Minister Hwang Hui from a Joseon Dynasty epic, or distort Li Wa Du-wan into a loyal subject like Yi Sun-sin who wins every war, and then just become the top leader of Datang and smoothly take over the world by solving frustrating, stagnant, and disgusting wars and problems like Hanjutamal that actually occurred in history.
Well, this is a piece that suits Darton’s taste overall.
Erin, which is mainly popular for alternative history, and works by other races, of course, modify the story of the savior.
You can remove people you don’t like from the Savior Party and add yourself. Or you can just add yourself. You can change the race arrangement. You can create a new Savior Party earlier.
Or, you can just date the savior, or, without changing the history of the savior party, change it to something more tragic and romantic. Or, the savior can completely defeat All Chaun. (I saw All Chaun in person and he said he burst out laughing because the battle was so ridiculous.)
There are many works where the author becomes the savior, and all kinds of genres have been tried. There are also many stories that are newly written by simply taking the motif.
But before we can talk about that, we first need to talk about the Savior’s companions. You already know one of them. The Black Witch is the Savior’s companion.
The colleague you all expected has already appeared.
One unexpected colleague has already appeared. If we look at it broadly, we could say that two or three have appeared.
However, out of the 12 comrades, only a few directly witnessed the final war of the Age of Faith.
Let’s describe this final war from their perspective.
This is the ‘Legendary Historian’, a Baekhan bard who directly recorded this final war and left a record of it.
He is a boy from the Baekkan tribe who lived as a Datang person without thinking about anything, but after hearing the story of the best person in the world, he became interested in the history of his race.
