Fantasy Starting from the Stone Age - Chapter 43
Only Noblemtl
Episode 43. Evil spirit 4
Tall plants are called trees. But why are trees tall?
Some of the largest trees on Earth are over 100 meters tall.
It is so tall that the water from its roots cannot reach the top and it grows by absorbing fog and rainwater.
The reason plants grow taller and their leaves spread wider is one thing in common.
To get some sunlight from a higher place.
To be more precise? To grow larger than other plants and receive more sunlight.
Survival is a war. Even plants fight very slowly.
Plants grow stems and branches greedily, blocking out sunlight for others.
Its roots spread wide and deep and suck up all the nutrients in the soil.
Small plants are not helpless.
Some sprout on top of other plants and suck up nutrients.
As they crawl on the floor, they suck up everything that the giant things can’t.
They literally make sweet honey to entice everything to reproduce.
To repel pests, they literally created terrible poisons and various chemicals.
Some people die from strange chemicals, while others enjoy them.
And then they use it to twist its shape again and reproduce.
They grow their seeds big and strong, even at the risk of being eaten.
It created horrible leaves with sharp thorns and clinging leaves that you absolutely must not eat.
All things live by eating plants, and all things live by eating animals that eat plants.
In other words, all living things depend on plants.
Dependence is domination. Plants dominate everything without moving a single hair.
Are humans different?
Where did the term psychotropic drugs come from?
Tobacco and coffee are just ‘luxury items’ that have no effect on life. Why do humans cultivate these things?
If we grow food in that field, we could save one more starving person.
Even food is the same. Agriculture is war.
The elimination of all other living organisms for the sake of a single crop.
Our palates have become so sophisticated that we can no longer taste anything except for the most highly cultivated varieties of plants.
We devote our society’s resources to developing technology for these weak yet noble people.
We think we dominate the plants, but maybe we are just cultivating them. We treat them as if they were precious, exploiting people and helping them to reproduce.
Throughout human history, the reason for exploiting other humans has been largely for agriculture.
The survival of plants has always been more important than the survival of humans.
Humanity still feels uneasy about landscapes devoid of plants and regards grasslands and forests with abundant plants as peaceful landscapes.
Plants are truly the rulers of the world, tyrants who can even control the lords of all things as they please.
.
······It’s a bit excessive to say that. It’s exaggerating the plant too much.
But still, one thing seems certain.
Plants are extremely selfish creatures.
And they are greedy. Truly endless longing, greed. Plants grow on the ruins, clinging to them, stretching their bodies toward the sky, toward the earth, toward the water, and sucking up everything they can.
The power that the crescent moon radiates from the bottom of the Holy Land is not life. It is ‘spirit’. The spirit of the spirit, the high mental power and willpower of Daton.
And the power that the red moon of the desert emits is ‘longing’. Obsession, will, hunger. I don’t know what to call it. The monsters it creates simply want to eat more and reproduce more.
Longing and hunger. These are concepts that really fit with plants.
“···card!”
“Goooooooo!”
All Chaun finally finished the spell. Datang Oram grew larger and burned as if trying to receive a massive release of magical power.
But that was not what they had anticipated. The explosion of celestial power that killed millions of people in the area did not happen.
The world has turned red. Wherever you look, you only see red.
But I didn’t feel any pain. It wasn’t because I had completely erased all existence that could feel pain. There really was no pain.
“what?”
“Okay? Are you here?”
“Damn it. Is that Laurent?”
“I have it too.”
“me too.”
“There is.”
“Oh my god. Is everyone here?”
As soon as he said that, everyone’s voices erupted in unison.
“Yes! All right! There is!”
“It’s red all around so I can’t see anything, but it’s there!”
All of this was surprisingly calm. Maybe it was because I was so surprised, or maybe it was because I was just so shocked.
“Oh yeah. It’s one of two things. Either we’re all dead and in the afterlife, or the area just turned incredibly red.”
“It seems like the latter. I can feel the texture of the floor properly. The magic of the red moon is not as destructive as the crescent moon. That’s surprising. I thought it would be incredibly destructive since it created a desert.”
“The analysis is done. So what should we do?”
The world flashed. The red energy was pushed away. And the surrounding scenery was illuminated by clear moonlight.
“Chaga-ga-ga!”
“Vachat Beram! You have given me light!”
“Ah. Okay. Now I can see your faces properly. They’re still a little red though.”
“Bachat Beram! Show me the surrounding scenery.”
At Manum Lapang’s request, the crescent moon spirit, Vachat Beram, quickly rises into the air and emits a radiant light towards the surrounding area.
Then, the red light that had been thickly obscuring the view ahead began to dim and become bright enough to make out objects.
And what they saw was a huge, tall red beam of light that even the weak light of the spirit could not dare to retreat. And also a tree that was growing, greedily sucking up that light.
The tree had grown so tall that it seemed to reach the sky, and dozens of other trees had become entangled with it, and new trunks had grown on top of the trunks, forming the shape of a single giant tree. Its height had already surpassed the height of the clouds in the sky, and its branches had gradually spread out, hanging like a curtain as if to block out the red moonlight.
Thanks to that, at first I couldn’t see at all without the spirit’s light, but now I can roughly see the outline of a person even without it.
“What is that?”
“Goooosh.”
All Chaun is confused. So, he understood one thing. The power that allowed Ojo Lorun to create plants was the power of this red moon.
I never understood why it actually created a desert.
Even Castello Laurent did not understand this contradictory phenomenon.
Maybe someday, when science advances further and we learn more about celestial magic and plants, that will change.
But if I had to say it······.
“Is it a success······?”
All Chaun mutters as he looks at the grass starting to grow not only on the trees but also on the sandy ground.
Of course, there was some debate as to whether this was truly a success.
That huge tree was so twisted and misshapen that I couldn’t even tell what species it was, and the grass growing on the ground was of different species growing together in one stem, growing wildly as if it had no regard for its surroundings.
But in the end, the original goal of growing plants in the desert was achieved.
“Is it a success?”
“It may be ugly, but isn’t it okay for a fruit to be ugly as long as it tastes good?”
“That’s true.”
As All Chaun turned his gaze, the chore-worker, servant, and bodyguard of Mainiran, Marechi, nodded and headed towards the giant tree.
“There! Ozo Lorun! You can stop now!”
There was no answer.
“Enough! That’s enough! Have you gone back?”
There’s a mumbling sound. I don’t know if there’s an answer or not.
But Marechi felt something ominous.
This isn’t the power of a minefield. It’s something you can feel because you’ve lived a long time, because you’ve served in the most difficult and dangerous places for a long time······.
“Everyone step back!”
As he said that, Marechi also ran back out of breath. Millions of people, including Ol Chaun, also quickly retreated······.
I guess that’s what stimulated me even more. I hear a voice coming from that huge tree.
No one can hear it here. Let’s hear what they actually say.
“No! I can do more! Don’t go!”
Yes. Well, the lack of communication between people is what causes tragedy.
The red energy that had enveloped the surroundings like a fog was greedily absorbed by the plants spread across the ground and the sky.
“Hey. Wait. What are you doing······?”
The energy of greed and desire that was absorbed eventually bursts out, splitting the sky and the ground apart.
The leaves of the tree stretch into the sky, consuming all the sunlight shining on the world and darkening the surroundings.
The branches of the tree extend out and suck up all the moisture around them. They suck up and absorb all the clouds and moisture in the plains beyond the desert, drying up the sky around them.
The roots that extend into the ground run along the ground, first reaching deep underground water cavities that have been standing for tens of millions of years and sucking up all that water. Then they extend out again and spread their roots into rivers and lakes.
The grass, bushes, and seedlings growing on the surface grow and spread endlessly, turning the desert into an ugly green area.
suddenly.
Soon they start walking and moving.
“What the fuck is that?”
“It seems like the monster created by the red moon has fused with a plant······.”
“Castle Laurent! Did I ask for an explanation like that?!”
All Chaun could no longer bear it. The Datang Oram that had been riding on his head swelled greatly, and the incarnation of fire that had been dormant for thousands of years emerged.
“Die recca! Datan oram! Naka di verate kakgoota (Kill that bastard right now)!!!”
If the plants are the embodiment of life, then Datang Oram is the embodiment of destruction that burns everything. It literally spreads across the desert, covering all directions and sucking up nutrients, burning all the plant monsters and starting to run wild.
Other spirits are also prepared. All spirits are herbivores. Wind ostriches, scaly hippos, kneeling giraffes, scaly elephants, giant snails, and golden thunderbolts are running wild, desperately blocking the green advance that seems to be swallowing up the world.
“AA …
And then there was the sound of a scream. It was a scream that made the entire tree shake, and it sounded so much like a woman’s voice.
The red magic of longing spreads out in all directions again. The red energy that touches the bodies of the four great spirits draws out their power. Wind, water, plants, and nutrients from the earth.
“This is crazy!”
Swamps appear everywhere. Fields are laid out and bushes grow again. Plains and forests sprout up in the desert like crazy, and monsters pour out of them again.
“Goooooooo!”
“It’s cold!”
A new thing grows on top of the tree that has taken away the power of Datang Oram and the power of Vachat Beram. Something they believed they would never be able to create.
It may be that only a tree can do that. It grows from the earth, but yearns for the sky. It is only it that greedily reaches for the heights, and only it can create that power.
“oh my god.”
Castlor Laurent could no longer analyze what it was.
The stupid Marechi just said what he saw.
“The sky is hanging over the trees!”
The sun, like a fruit, was formed. The moon, like a crescent, and among the fixed celestial bodies, those representing wind, water, plants, earth, shade, and lightning.
And as expected from the sky, a meteorological phenomenon occurred there.
The water vapor that rose through transpiration, the process of plants taking in water, respiring, and exhaling, gathered on the giant trees that blocked the sky, creating thick clouds on their branches.
Kururururung!
Thick clouds above the trees bring lightning and storms to the ground.
They are just prehistoric humans, whether they are Minnirundles or humans. They have never heard of such supernatural phenomena.
Three million people have already been evacuated far away. But the giant tree is still growing bigger and the sea of trees is still advancing without stopping. It seems as if it will swallow up the whole world.
From that peak where even the sun had disappeared, only the red moonlight poured down, and instead of sunlight, only the fruits and flowers made of fire on the trees illuminated the ground.
And from the top of the tree, a staircase of vines and branches slowly grew before him, as if to call him up.
Seeing them waving from afar, it seemed like someone had to come and greet them. Ol Chaun braced himself.
“Marech. Now. Go.”
“No, me?”
“I said I would dedicate the rest of my life to my people.”
“Oh, how about Paldin Core? He’s bigger and stronger.”
“Umm. I’m scared. I’m scared.”
“······Shouldn’t All Chaun just go?”
“Yes. I think that would be better.”
“Please.”
“We trust you.”
All Chaun sighed deeply when he saw these guys named Minnirun.
“Die Recca······.”
“Haha.”
“Oh. Okay. Surely you’re not crazy.”
“Haha.”
“Yeah. It couldn’t be any ‘crazier’. Let’s go.”
Could it be that the mind of the woman who performed such a supernatural feat was sane? Could it be that she had been broken before that?
And what will happen to All Chaun against her? And what will be the fate of Datang, who suddenly grew a tree that reaches up to the sky? What will the other races think of this?
Let’s check it out for yourself now.
