Genius Engineer in the Labyrinth - Chapter 19
Only Noblemtl
Apocalypse in Water Episode 19
Episode 19
“This is child labor exploitation.”
Bomi stopped drilling and grumbled.
“Bomi! You’re not a child.”
I screamed, but I didn’t have time to look back.
This is because the water zombie that was quickly rushing forward deployed a water barrier and blocked the chainsaw.
I had to quickly stab the branch I was holding in my other hand.
Then, like a spilled bowl of water, the lump of water that had wrapped around the guy’s body spilled onto the floor.
I took the opportunity to swing my chainsaw and sliced the guy’s head off.
With the sunlight out of the way, the water zombies were able to operate their water shields more skillfully and flexibly than before.
As they fought on the stairs, the water zombies were unable to take advantage of the pack attack by pushing forward with their numbers.
If the battle had been in an open space like a living room, it would not have been easy to fight.
But since the branch is still alive, I don’t think it would have hurt.
Bomi stopped drilling and began to argue.
“I’m not talking about me, I’m talking about Hoyoung. Asking a kid who hasn’t even started middle school to do such difficult things? Even if you treat him like an adult, isn’t that too much?”
“I’m okay, sis.”
Hoyoung said, as he was hitting the nail on the concrete steps with the hammer I gave him.
“It’s okay. You stay still. I’ll tell you what to do. Instead, let me fight. I’ll deal with the crazy zombies.”
I said, poking the stick with the fleshy branch.
“Then. I should call Hoyoung over here and have him fight.”
“No. That’s not it. Sir. Hoyoung is still young, so fighting is dangerous. Instead, bring me, who has experience and is good at archery.”
As expected, the reason Bomi was grumbling was because of the battle.
Bomi wanted revenge on all the monsters who did that to her parents.
Or maybe they just needed something to relieve the stress of the apocalypse.
Maybe I was a zombie movie fanatic.
I swung the chainsaw hard and drove the water zombies away.
Then he turned around, looked into Bomi’s eyes and said.
“Don’t worry, Bomi. There will be plenty of monsters to fight in the future. Even if you want to run away or rest, I won’t allow it.”
Bomi seemed to like what I said, so she turned on the drill again and got to work.
I destroyed the water zombies that were rushing at me again.
After catching five or six of them, a loud noise, ‘Kururung!’, rang out from behind and dust rose up.
“The rope is down!”
Bomi’s screams could be heard amid the noise of concrete chunks falling like corn.
I turned around and ran as if I was running backwards.
And then I jumped with all my might towards the rope that came down from the end of the broken stairs.
But, hey! It seems a bit far.
Did I miscalculate this? Since it’s a water zombie and not a water polo, I increased the distance slightly compared to the last time I worked on it.
Just as I was about to descend, I managed to grab the rope.
Clap, clap! A round of applause was heard from above.
“Wow, sir. Looks like you’ve been working out.”
“Well, that’s about it.”
I went upstairs while controlling my expression.
As soon as I got up, I put the rope away.
It was because a few water zombies jumped after me.
But because there was a distance, I couldn’t reach the rope.
As we pulled the rope all the way up, the water zombies could only stare blankly at us like dogs chasing a chicken.
“Now, shall we move to building 103?”
“Yes. Go quickly.”
At my words, Hoyoung climbed the stairs excitedly.
Bomi also followed Hoyoung up and said a word.
“This time I’ll shoot, so give me back the flesh.”
There were no water zombies in building 103.
There were only a few groups of water polo and lizards like ours.
Bomi excitedly grabbed the limbs as if trying to make up for her obsession with hunting water zombies.
In the beginning, I was too enthusiastic and did close-range shooting, which resulted in some dangerous scenes, but I was able to get out of it with my help.
After that, I hunted steadily while maintaining an appropriate distance.
Sal recovery, a key test point of this expedition, also went smoothly.
Bomi shot the fish with a spear, hit the limb, and then pulled the fishing line back as if reloading to retrieve the fish.
The feared prey was dragged in together, but it did not happen.
And the fishing line also worked well as expected without breaking.
I was mainly in charge of water polo.
The guys were quite fierce and outnumbered our group, but since I had already faced them before, I deliberately fought them from a narrow staircase.
These guys are afraid of a pack of dogs, and the fighting power of each individual guy is not that high.
We went down to the first floor to relax Bomi’s stiff body and do the collection work comfortably.
On the first floor, the water was knee-deep.
The whole world was submerged as the water rose, but in our apartment complex, only the first floor was slightly submerged.
I couldn’t understand how this could happen, but what was more curious was why only this apartment complex was kept from being flooded.
If you go out on a boat, you might see apartment complexes and buildings standing out on the water, but I was very curious as to why they left our complex alone.
I’ve thought of several hypotheses, but they’re just hypotheses, and I don’t know the exact reason.
The cold water on the first floor and the sea level outside were at the same height.
When I opened the window, waves came crashing in, but the water level remained the same.
It seemed like I could go out and swim and work, but there would be dangerous carp and all kinds of monsters lurking in the water outside.
And the strong current made it difficult to work anyway.
I climbed down the rope from the third floor and approached the drifting object.
First, they tied up the corpses and dragged them up.
The children did not even come near the three corpses that had been placed there, as it was their first time seeing a dead person in person.
I didn’t notice because he was wearing a helmet, but when I looked up, I saw that the pilot was Asian, but the other two bodies in military uniforms were white.
So, is the transport plane a US military aircraft stationed in Korea?
The plane debris that was not visible from Building 110 had marks on it.
“Uh. This is the 121st Fighter Squadron of the U.S. Air Force.”
Hoyoung recognized it right away.
You know things that even I, a military veteran, don’t know? Are you a true fanboy despite being young?
Hoyoung didn’t approach the corpse because he was scared, but he showed interest in the pilot’s uniform and military uniform.
“Looking at the fact that they are missing their badges and unit marks, it looks like they were on a mission in an emergency situation.”
I thought they simply took off to avoid the rising water, but it seems they were on a mission, just as Hoyoung said.
If it was an operation, it would have been transport, but where was the destination and what was being transported?
You probably couldn’t fly all the way to the US mainland, but Japan?
Or maybe it came from Japan to Korea.
I searched the bodies’ arms and pockets.
A wallet and a pistol were found on the pilot.
An identification card reading “Captain Matthew J. Ramos” and a family photo were found in the wallet.
He seemed to be probably Filipino-American.
Nothing identifying the other two soldiers was revealed.
The only thing that came out were the documents that were buried deep in his bosom.
But the documents were soaked in water and unreadable.
All I could vaguely make out was the words ‘Top secret’ printed in red.
Were they moving top secret documents or something important?
You may not know everything about your shipment, but you may be able to identify some of it.
I climbed down the rope again and started to retrieve the items.
First, we manipulated the lifeboat that was half-open and made it open properly.
A red, cone-shaped lifeboat was unfurled on the water’s surface.
Just in case, a rope was attached to the lifeboat to prevent it from floating away.
And they pulled the items into the lifeboat.
Because the waves were rough, the lifeboat rocked quite a bit even though a rope was attached.
I’ve been on boats a lot since I was little, so I’m used to it, so I don’t get seasick very often.
I felt a little nauseous.
Since the salvaged items were planned to be moved to Building 110, items that did not seem absolutely necessary or too heavy were left as they were.
I wanted to take the wing part that I was planning to use as material for a boat or raft later, but I had to give it up because it was too big to fit through the veranda window.
I picked up three wooden boxes, two plastic boxes, and one fancy-looking metal box.
The metal box was not very large, but it was quite heavy, and placing it on the lifeboat could have capsized the boat.
It took all three of us clinging to the third floor to get up there alone.
They lifted the boxes one by one, and finally the lifeboat to the third floor.
The lifeboat wouldn’t fit through the window, so they had to deflate it and put it in.
We were exhausted from salvaging the items, and I was drenched in water, but when I saw the stacked boxes, I couldn’t help but smile happily.
“I hope there’s something delicious in it. Like tteokbokki or chicken.”
As Bomi spoke, as if she was holding a red Christmas stocking in front of her, Hoyoung did not back down and spoke.
“I am the latest game console.”
There’s no way that’s going to be in a transporter.
Maybe these will be my Christmas presents.
A firearm like a gun that can deal with monsters.
I would like the M27 IAR rather than the M16A4.
If it even has a scope, it’s the icing on the cake.
I rubbed my hands and took the razor out of my bag.
So, what should I open first?
The fancy metal box definitely caught my eye, but I was careful to eat the strawberries on top of the cake last.
I stood in front of the heaviest wooden box.
Yeah, you first.
As I opened the wooden box lid with a mallet, Hoyoung, the fanboy, shouted.
“Wow! It’s the M60 E3.”
