Apocalypse in Water Episode 22
Episode 22
It was partly because of the distance, but the dog had very sharp and strong teeth.
I bit the nail with my teeth.
A few of them hit him in the face, but his tough skin sent him crashing to the ground.
“Crrrrrrr!”
The dog roared as if it had won, but it didn’t matter because the nail gun was just an attack to slow the dog down.
I put the chainsaw in my tool belt, took out the three-section window, and assembled it.
There were battery issues, and the chainsaw could get clogged by the dog’s teeth.
And with the water zombies continuing to rise, it seemed like I needed a ranged weapon that could buy time.
I thrust my three-pronged spear into the dog’s head.
The dog blocked the window with the same strong teeth he had just used to bite the nail.
The dog’s eyes, clenched between its teeth, became filled with pride.
But the three-tiered window is fake.
I quickly pulled out my nail gun and shot the guy in the leg.
Phishung! Phishung! Phishung!
I fired a burst of bullets at the guy’s knees.
The dog’s body was fresh and clean, with no apparent damage, as if it had just been drowned.
So even if a few nails flew in, it didn’t cause much damage.
But I persistently shot and shot only at the knees with a strategy of hitting again and again.
By the time his magazine was nearly empty, the guy’s knees were tattered.
The man fell to his knees, dropping the three-pronged spear he had in his mouth.
I took the opportunity and stabbed the guy in the neck with my three-pronged spear.
The dog’s head was connected to its neck with a crude stitching and a stapler.
“Kwaaak!”
The guy let out a roar that sounded like a scream, even though he didn’t feel any pain.
The dog’s neck fell off and the roaring ceased.
We dealt with the dog water zombie, but it wasn’t the end.
I saw water zombies climbing up the ladder like a pack of dogs.
Fortunately, only a few of them had other bodies grafted onto them Frankenstein-style, while the rest were just regular water zombies.
But is that a good thing?
Below, I saw something that looked like a gibbon moving along the outer wall.
The guy had incredibly long arms that were attached to his arm.
I don’t know who the mad scientist who created this thing is, but it’s an annoying hobby.
The long-armed water zombie used its long arms to grab onto the railings of a veranda or other protruding structures and moved like a monkey climbing a tree.
Looking at the direction of movement, it seemed like it was aiming for the rope.
“Hoyoung! Hold on tight and don’t let go! And make sure the pipe is well balanced so it doesn’t lean to one side. Got it?”
I placed a small pipe over the rope and had Hoyoung hold each end of the pipe with his hands.
“What about you, sir?”
“I’ll escape on my own. You go first.”
Without even having time to put safety equipment on Hoyoung, he just pushed him in the back.
Hoyoung slid down the rope as if he was descending on a zip line.
At that moment, the long-armed water zombie jumped and tried to grab the rope with its long arms.
It was quite a distance, but since my arms were so long, I was able to grab the rope without difficulty.
I tried to shoot the nail gun at the guy, but I ran out of nail bullets in the burst just now.
The long-armed water zombie moved briskly, stretching out its long arms like a monkey climbing a tree.
Because the arms were so long, the speed was quite fast.
It seemed like Hoyoung, who had started ahead, would soon catch up.
Behind me, water zombies that had climbed up to the roof were running towards me.
Soon they will surround me and attack me.
I had to escape before I was isolated, but I couldn’t leave this place until Hoyoung landed safely.
I threw a handful of the iron behind me.
There will be a time delay, but it’s only a stopgap measure, like peeing on your feet.
The number of water zombies that came up to the rooftop continued to increase.
The water zombie followed Hoyoung right behind and stretched out its long arms.
Just as his hand was about to touch, Hoyoung entered the 19th floor of Building 110 by a hair’s breadth.
At that moment, I cut the rope without hesitation.
The rope snapped and the long-armed water zombie seemed to fall straight into the sea.
But then the guy stretched out his arms and grabbed the railing of the 15th floor balcony.
“Tough guy.”
The curse words came out, but there was no way to get rid of the guy here.
I have no choice but to trust Bomi.
Bomi must have noticed my feelings because she waved her hand while holding the measuring tape.
“Sir! Are you okay?”
“Don’t worry about me, just catch the long-armed water zombie. And when I contact you later, shoot me some arrows tied to rope.”
“Okay. Make sure you survive. Behind you, sir. Behind you… … .”
I didn’t look back.
The simulation was taking stock of how far the guys had come.
I would have been completely surrounded with no room to run, and they would have been right up to me.
Even if you turn around, you will be defeated by water zombies that have a numerical advantage in a narrow space, let alone a drain.
I can’t be treated like that.
I quickly tied the rope to my tool belt and hung it on the roof railing.
And without a moment’s hesitation, he jumped down.
For a moment, I felt weightless, as if I was floating in the sky, and then I fell straight down.
But soon, my body was pulled strongly upwards, as if a parachute had been deployed.
I bounced up and down two or three times due to the elasticity of the safety rope.
It felt like I was on an amusement ride, but I didn’t have time to enjoy it.
Because they were so anxious, they failed to properly fasten the safety devices and even forgot to take some of the safety equipment.
But even if they didn’t know this fact, or even if they did, it wouldn’t matter, the water zombies were competing to climb down the rope.
We need to get inside quickly, this is a completely unsafe accident.
I took a hammer from my tool belt, smashed the window, and threw myself inside.
As soon as I released the biner and the fastener connected to the rope, I saw the rope fall as if it had been waiting for me.
The water zombies holding the falling rope also fell.
Phew~ I let out a sigh of relief.
Looking outside, I saw water zombies climbing up the ladder to the rooftop, perhaps because they hadn’t figured out the situation yet or because the instructions hadn’t been relayed.
The guys didn’t even show any sign of turning back.
Hey! Weren’t you coming back to catch me?
Originally, it was said that a measured retreat was more difficult than an advance.
Maybe the guys can’t get back on the ladder due to its structure.
Anyway, I bought some time.
But soon the guys will find another way down, even if it’s not by ladder.
Strictly speaking, it’s not the guys who are looking for it, but the being that controls them is giving instructions.
After several encounters with water zombies, I became almost convinced that there was some entity controlling them and giving them orders.
So if we eliminate the existence of the water zombies before they come down, wouldn’t we be able to easily deal with the rest?
After I saw Bomi hit the long-armed water zombie’s head with a stick, I went down.
The entity controlling the water zombies must be somewhere in Building 108.
I expected the range of instructions to be fixed, like a Wi-Fi router.
Maybe that’s why water zombies aren’t seen in other areas.
I moved very tensely.
Since they have no flesh, dealing with water zombies that activate water barriers will never be easy.
Since the water barrier would slow down my movements anyway, I planned to avoid it if possible.
The sole purpose of this hunt was to find the main body that controls the water zombies.
Even though I quickly got down to the third floor, I didn’t see a single water zombie.
Neither the water bowl nor the limbs were visible.
And strangely enough, the further down I went, the more intact the house became.
There were some signs of death, but there didn’t seem to be much broken objects.
And there were signs that someone had come and taken the items.
Are there any survivors?
Hey, that can’t be true.
How can there be water zombies, let alone water monsters?
I shook my head and went down to the second floor.
But where is the entity that controls the water zombies?
I was wondering if I missed it, but I don’t think that’s the case.
Although I came down in a hurry, I inspected the houses thoroughly without leaving any gaps.
If my hypothesis that there is a being controlling the water zombies is wrong.
If that’s the case, it would create a pretty dangerous situation, but I’ll have to check it out to the end.
The water zombies must have found a way to get by, because a thumping sound could be heard from up there.
I went down to the second floor.
Hey! What is it?
Although the door was open, there was no damage to it and the inside looked clean.
I have a strange feeling, I feel like there’s someone controlling the water zombies here.
I assembled the three-section window and checked the nail gun magazine.
As I carefully entered, I felt like I had been here before.
The shoe cabinet was as ornate as an antique French piece of furniture, and the wallpaper was in a baroque style with purple flowers.
When I saw the family portrait hanging across from the shoe rack, I knew where this was.
The framed family portrait featured a resident representative in a flowing dress and a boy in a tuxedo, looking like something out of a haunted painting from a horror movie.
This was the home of the tenant representative.
I had been here briefly to argue with her.
I saw the interior of the house and thought it was very like her.
The manager who had accompanied me said this as he came out of the house.
“Isn’t that your personality?”
“It must be hard for you too, sir.”
The manager replied to my answer with a bitter smile.
“Well, how could anything be easy? But wouldn’t it be possible for you to make some concessions?”
“Why me? The fire code also says that rooftop access is required for safety reasons.”
“I know. But that’s it. The son of the tenant representative jumped into the Han River a while ago.”
I was speechless for a moment.
My son’s suicide was a separate issue from safety concerns, but I eventually took a step back and accepted the compromise of an automatic opening and closing device for the rooftop door.
