Genius Engineer in the Labyrinth - Chapter 7

Apocalypse in water episode 7
Episode 7
“What! It’s not a monster fish. It’s a pack of dogs.”
I saw monsters I had never seen before coming up.
They came rushing in like a pack of dogs, just like the X-rings in the game, and they looked like real dogs.
The slightly crushed face resembled a ferocious dog, and the thick shoulders and short legs looked like a dog, but the solid body extending from the chest down and the forked tail fin instead of hind legs gave it the unmistakable appearance of a seal.
In short, it is a combination of a dog and a seal, like a centaur, which is half-man and half-horse.
“Boom! Boom!”
When they saw me, they ran towards me, barking fiercely like dogs.
With his eyes glowing red, his drooling teeth bared, he was definitely not a dog asking to play.
Despite having short forelimbs and fin-like hind legs, the dog-seal hybrid was quite fast.
The guy running in front came to me in an instant.
I quickly drew my nail gun like a gunslinger in a western movie and fired it at the guy who was rushing at me.
‘Psung’, a short, escaping sound was heard as the nail was fired.
The nail was driven straight into the forehead of the guy in front.
As expected, a top marksman!
In the military and the police, no one was inferior to him when it came to shooting.
But the guy running towards me didn’t stop even though the nail was stuck in his forehead.
What is this? Is it like a monster fish with scales on its forehead?
The creature’s dark blue skin was thick and tough, but not covered in scales.
Now that I think about it, the nail in his forehead seemed to be very thin and the same length.
I fired the nail gun as a speaker.
Phew, phew, phew!
The nails struck the guy’s forehead and chest in succession.
But it fell down like corn without being able to break through them, as if it had hit a metal plate.
Shit!
Is that dog’s head incredibly hard?
No, is the nail gun’s penetration power poor?
Ah! So the nail gun is something you point at the spot where you want to drive a nail and shoot it.
A hybrid of a dog and a seal with a horn-like spike in the center of its forehead came right up to my nose.
The guy jumped up and tried to bite me.
I pulled the hammer out of my tool belt much faster than I could pull out the nail gun.
And then he struck the horn on the guy’s forehead with all his might with a hammer.
The impact, like hitting a wall, was transmitted to the hand holding the hammer, but like the Yanbian man, he held on to the hammer tightly and did not let go.
“Wake up!”
The one with the nail deeply embedded rolled down the stairs screaming.
The pack of dogs stopped for a moment as the men coming up the stairs got tangled up in each other.
After thinking for a moment about where to go, I ran into the house where I had brought the tools.
Going up would have been much safer, as I could fight back from the rooftops, but I couldn’t abandon Nodaji.
There must be a tool inside to catch them.
I looked at the tools that filled the house.
A few tools caught my eye, but I wasn’t satisfied.
I think this would be best.
This tool is a weapon that is treated as an essential item in zombie or horror movies, but in a real apocalypse, nothing has proven itself like a nail gun.
Still, I had used it a few times and knew the power of this tool.
I pulled the chainsaw cord.
Vroom, vroom!
The engine started up, but the rotary saw blade did not turn.
Surely you’re not out of fuel?
If that’s true, it’s a really big problem.
I checked the fuel tank, and luckily it was half full.
Meanwhile, a pack of dogs began to enter the house.
These guys are faster than I thought.
I gave up on the chainsaw and tried to grab a hammer or a crowbar or something, but those guys were faster.
The first one to come running jumped towards me as if pounced on me.
There was no time to pick up any other tools.
I swung the chainsaw with all my might without it even starting.
The guy didn’t seem to mind my counterattack, and was hit in the chest with the chainsaw and fell to the ground.
Although the saw wasn’t spinning, the blade slid down, leaving a long bloody trail across the guy’s chest.
And I got results I never expected.
WHIP!
The saw’s engine started to turn.
I don’t know exactly how it works, but I thought it would be similar to the situation where you push a car with a dead battery and start it up, and the car starts moving.
I slashed the spinning saw blade at the seal hybrid that rushed at me next.
He must have used too much force because the saw blade got stuck in his shoulder.
The guy was writhing in pain.
The arms are bent outward.
If I forced myself to do so, I felt like the blade would break.
I kicked the guy in the chest and took the blade out.
The guy who had collapsed on the floor tried to get up again, but fell back down on his half-severed shoulder.
The pack of dogs did not back down even though they saw their comrades injured by the chainsaw.
They rushed at each other, saying they would be the first to attack.
I didn’t back down either.
He swung the chainsaw wildly, increasing its speed.
Following the trajectory of the saw, the noses, snouts, and front legs of the rushing creatures were cut off by the rotating saw.
The guys who were hit hesitated, and I didn’t miss that opportunity.
He thrust a chainsaw into their foreheads and decapitated them.
As I cut down the guys, I became more and more familiar with the chainsaw, and I also learned the seal hybrid’s weaknesses.
The seal hybrids, who would not easily back down even if a chainsaw was stuck in their shoulder or chest, strangely enough, would turn their heads in surprise at even the slightest touch to their nose.
That’s when the perfect angle comes out.
If you cut the bent neck diagonally with a chainsaw as if you were cutting down a tree, the neck will be cut off.
I cut the guys’ necks again and again.
The guys who seemed like they would keep coming in endlessly started to decrease little by little.
Aside from its sharp teeth and blind attack, like that of the X-ring, it wasn’t particularly threatening compared to the monster fish.
However, because there were so many of them, I was worried that the engine saw might run out of fuel.
The chainsaw finally started to rattle as if it was running out of fuel.
Fortunately, there are only two left.
I managed to force a barely functioning chainsaw into one of the guys’ necks and then pulled out a box cutter.
And then I cut off the nose of the last guy who rushed at me.
The guy turned his head away, frowning as if he was about to sneeze.
I didn’t miss the gap, put the nail gun to the guy’s head and pulled the trigger.
Phew!
The guy just fell backwards.
I gasped, sinking to the floor covered in blood and the severed head of the seal hybrid.
Not only did the chainsaw run out of fuel, but it also ran out of stamina.
My hands were shaking.
It was a natural result, considering I had been swinging a chainsaw weighing about 10kg for quite some time.
My hands were shaking so much that it wasn’t even easy to open the energy drink I had brought.
I finally opened the can and took a sip, and only then did I feel a little better.
After eating a couple of energy bars, my hands stopped shaking.
“I thought the monster fish would be more dangerous, but I think we could be in trouble if a larger pack of dogs comes.”
It seemed like we needed a way to structurally defend against the guys.
I haven’t gotten home yet, but I guess I should stop here and go.
I stood up with difficulty and approached the Yanbian man’s tool collection.
I picked up a hammer drill.
The hammer drill, which had a blade-like bit that was about the length of an arm and about the thickness of a wrist, had an additional handle attached to the front like a machine gun.
I went up the stairs with a hammer drill.
“Hmm, I guess I should just cut it off here.”
I turned the hammer drill on the steps.
Kookung, kookung.
The concrete shattered and the noise was louder than I expected.
I was worried that if this continued, a monster fish or a pack of dogs would hear and come up.
Luckily, the monster didn’t appear until I broke six stepping stones.
As I broke the seventh step, I heard the seal hybrid barking, “Woof! Woof!” and the guys appeared.
The guys climbed over the fallen debris and reached the broken stairs.
The guys who stopped in front of the broken stairs were pushed down by the guys coming from behind.
“haha!”
I laughed for the first time today in a situation that seemed like a comedy.
Perhaps they didn’t like my laughter, as they barked at me fiercely and tried to jump over the broken stairs.
As I watched him fly with all his might, I took out the Yanbian man’s hammer.
The moment I got here, I was planning on hitting his head and sending him crashing down the broken stairs.
However, its short forelimbs and forked tail fin were not suited to long-distance jumping.
It crashed before it even reached this side.
As I broke two more stepping stones, it started to get dark, as the sun was starting to set.
Darkness will come soon.
But at this distance, a seal hybrid would never be able to get over, and even a monster fish wouldn’t be able to jump over it.
As it grew dark, the eyes of the seal hybrid across from them began to glow with a flash of light.
It looked quite threatening, but the broken stairs made it look like a dog on a leash.
Maybe a new monster will appear that can easily jump over this distance, but for now, it seems like we’ve succeeded in changing the terrain to make it easier to defend.
Come to think of it, I haven’t been able to get the monster guide and I haven’t even gotten home.
Still, it was a great achievement to protect the tools that were like treasures.
Because we have secured the means to fight and confront monsters.
However, I couldn’t stand guard in front of this place forever.
I also need to prepare to go home, sort and organize the items I farmed today, and check my equipment and tools.
I didn’t know I might have to stay up all night.
I set up a rope with a bell on the stairs, waved to the guys, and went up.
The guys barked at me as I disappeared, as if telling me to come back.
