Genius Manager Who Hears Voices - Chapter 4

Episode 4
“Huh? Why are you up? Have you finished your checkup? I asked to make a reservation for the one with the most items because I thought it would be better to get a proper checkup since I’ve already booked a hospital room.”
The one who opened the door and entered the VIP room was none other than Kang Se-ra.
However, Heeseong was completely unexpected for her visit, so he was surprised for a moment and just watched in silence.
“Oh my, why are you looking like that? Why, the test results weren’t good? Is there something that’s really wrong?”
Kang Se-ra, who had taken Hee-sung’s reaction differently, put down the paper bag he was holding and took a step closer to Hee-sung.
There, Heeseong was surprised again and took a step back.
“Child, when someone asks you a question, you have to answer in some way. What’s wrong with you? Are you suffering from any aftereffects from the accident today? What did you say? What’s wrong with you?”
Kang Se-ra came right up to Hee-sung’s nose and examined his face closely.
Because I was so close, a strong scent, either her shampoo or her perfume, was stimulating my nose.
Heeseong swallowed a little saliva from his throat and turned his gaze to the side as he spoke.
“No. There was nothing wrong. I just didn’t expect Kang Se-ra to come… … .”
“Oh, me too! I really thought there was something wrong with you. If it’s because of me, I’m so, so sorry.”
Kang Se-ra, with a relieved expression on his face, finally took a step back.
Then, he picked up the paper bag he had put down a moment ago, walked towards the table, and sat down naturally.
“It’s not yet time for hospital food to be served, so it’s before you eat, right? I thought it would be better to eat something delicious than hospital food, so I bought a few things.”
Kang Se-ra takes out the packaged foods one by one from the paper bag.
Meanwhile, he glanced at Heeseong and gestured for him to come quickly.
“Come quickly. I just got off the set in the morning, and if I had stayed in the hospital the whole time, I wouldn’t have been able to eat anything. I didn’t know what you liked, so I just bought some from places I often eat at. But since they’re famous for their delicious food, I’m sure you won’t find it unpleasant.”
Even though he had already seen her on set in the morning, Heeseong couldn’t open his mouth because they were alone in the hospital room.
Perhaps it was only natural.
She is a top star and actress acknowledged by everyone, and is a guaranteed hit in any field.
Not only did she come all the way to the hospital room, she also spread out the food she bought herself.
Today, I felt like I had several truly mysterious experiences.
As Heeseong sat down across from her, Kang Se-ra personally broke the chopsticks in half and handed them to him.
Then, as if he was planning to eat with me, he grabbed another pair of chopsticks and smiled slyly.
“Since it’s so filling, can we share it? I haven’t eaten anything since yesterday because of the shoot today. Fortunately, they said they’ll rearrange the advertising schedule today due to the accident, so I’ll be able to eat as much as I want today! Phew, I thought I was going to die from hunger.”
Among the packaged foods she bought, Kang Se-ra picked up the salmon sushi first and ate it in one bite.
Then, he showed a happy expression as if he was finally ready to live, and his lips moved happily.
“What are you doing? Hurry up and eat, Heeseong. You must be as hungry as I am. I know starving is a daily routine for me, but Heeseong, you’re a man. Wouldn’t it be really hard for you to skip even one meal?”
Heeseong couldn’t tell whether Kang Se-ra was talkative or whether he was unusually reserved.
Clearly, the image from the filming set earlier was something of an unapproachable aura or something like that.
Even though I am an ordinary person, is it possible to treat someone this comfortably?
He was so friendly that he even called out my name while chewing on the sushi.
First of all, Heeseong had not eaten anything all day, so he picked up his chopsticks to start eating.
Then he lifted up a piece of salmon sushi and asked Kang Se-ra.
“Are you feeling better? The situation was so urgent earlier that I had no choice but to push you roughly… … .”
Kang Se-ra shrugged her shoulders as if there was no problem at all with Hee-sung’s question.
“Hmm, not at all. If it weren’t for Heesung, I might have been lying in that bed right now. I’m so thankful that I’m even able to eat like this. Hehe.”
Kang Se-ra stared at Hee-seong with that bright smile that she had only seen on TV.
“As I said on set earlier, I can’t thank you enough for what happened today. Not just because I avoided the accident, but if it weren’t for Hee-sung, so many things would have gotten complicated, not just with my scheduled schedule but also with my personal issues.”
“Personal matter?”
Instead of answering, Kang Se-ra put down her chopsticks and picked up the bottle of ionic drink she had bought with her.
Then he took a quick sip and looked at Heeseong again.
“Actually, my sister’s wedding is this weekend. Since my family and relatives are relatively small, I had to go and protect the place. If Hee-sung hadn’t saved me on set earlier, I wouldn’t have even dreamed of attending. I knew what would have happened if that huge lighting equipment had hit me. On top of that, there were also commercial shoots, movie crank-ins, and overseas photo shoots. It was a really dizzying situation in many ways. But thanks to Hee-sung, I was able to get through it without any problems.”
Kang Se-ra smiled as she picked up her chopsticks again.
“But doesn’t it look like a scene from a movie? Like a male protagonist who jumps into the water and fire to save the female protagonist who is in imminent danger. Hehe, if Heeseong wasn’t an ordinary person, this would have definitely become a hot topic and been floating around on portal sites. Hey, that’s a bit of a shame. Don’t you think? Hehe.”
Seeing him making jokes like this, it seems like Kang Se-ra has gotten over the shock from the accident this morning.
The fragments of the lighting equipment that fell right in front of your nose must have been so huge that you were quite surprised.
As they continued eating, Kang Se-ra asked Hee-seong.
“Do you have any plans for the future? Like a set schedule?”
“If it’s a schedule, what kind of… … ?”
“Oh, I heard a bit about it from Heesung’s coworkers earlier. I heard that today was his last day of work. I was wondering if he had a separate place of residence set for later.”
Heeseong shook his head briefly with a calm expression.
“No, not yet. Today is the last day, so I have to look into it again. It’s not easy to decide on your next residence while working.”
Kang Sera asked, nodding slowly.
“Is there anything you want to do or a company you want to go to? I think you probably have some kind of direction in mind.”
Direction. I’ve never thought about that before.
I just submitted my resume to all companies regardless of job type or position, as long as the hiring criteria did not include the words “college graduate or higher.”
Then, if I got a call saying I had passed the interview, I said I would go to work right away without hesitating.
Hee-sung had always thought that setting direction was the privilege of those who could choose.
“Well, if I had to choose, I would say it would be good if it was a company where I could work for as long as possible. Not a short-term contract where the work ends after a year.”
“Well, then why don’t you join a company that meets those conditions from the beginning? In the first place, as a full-time employee, not a contract employee.”
Heeseong smiled bitterly.
“Well, it’s not as easy as it sounds. Even places that say that education is irrelevant in the hiring requirements end up asking about that kind of stuff during interviews. Why didn’t you go to college? What do you think you did while others studied for 3, 6, or even 12 years to prepare for college entrance exams? Didn’t you know that not going to college would have a negative impact on your job search? In the end, it all starts with education and ends with education. Needless to say, the results are just as bad.”
This is something that Heeseong has actually experienced several times.
So after that, I changed to a passive attitude of accepting reality and going to a place I can go and a place that accepts me.
Anyway, I had to work and I couldn’t continue living as a job seeker.
After hearing Heeseong’s story, Kang Se-ra began to think about something for a moment.
Then he opened his mouth again and spoke to Heesung.
“Then why don’t you just work somewhere where they don’t ask or question those things? A place where things like academic background or conditions don’t matter at all. A place where all you need is sincerity and consistency. There are already several things that come to mind right now?”
“Really? What is it?”
When Heeseong asked again, Kang Se-ra confidently pointed at herself with her finger.
“Me. I didn’t go to college either, but I’m living well. Doing everything I want, eating everything I want, going wherever I want. No one ever asks me if I went to college or why I didn’t. It’s not important to doing this job.”
Kang Se-ra continued speaking, taking her finger away from her.
“So, Heesung, you can do the same job as me. A job where you can be recognized solely for your abilities without the concepts of irregular or regular employment. If you can prove that you have the skills, you can enjoy more and more wealth and happiness. How about something like that?”
Obtaining wealth and happiness in proportion to one’s abilities?
Is there no concept of regular or irregular employment?
Heeseong couldn’t readily think of what that might be.
Even if there are, it is highly likely that finding a success story would be as difficult as a camel passing through the eye of a needle, or something that not just anyone can do.
If such a thing really existed, everyone would be trying it and experiencing wealth and success.
Heeseong asked Kang Se-ra.
“What kind of thing is that?”
“Our CEO! When our CEO first came to Seoul, he had only 600 won. With that amount of money, he wouldn’t be able to buy even one bowl of noodles at today’s prices. But now, the number of employees and artists affiliated with a company with annual sales in the hundreds of billions of won is incredible. He’s a total success.”
If he was the CEO of Kang Se-ra’s agency, he would be a person who was quite familiar to Hee-sung.
Because the agency itself is large in scale, and CEO Jeong Won-ho has appeared in many media outlets.
But when I asked him ‘what kind of work’, why did he suddenly mention his own company CEO?
Are you telling me to start a business and do something?
As Heeseong was silently staring at her with his eyes wide open, Kang Se-ra met Heeseong’s eyes with a rather solemn expression and tone and spoke.
“How about you, Heeseong? Why don’t you try it too? So you can go from the very bottom to the very top in one go.”
