Genius Manager Who Hears Voices - Chapter 95

Episode 95
After leaving the hospital, Heeseong drove to JNBC.
After getting a visitor’s pass in the lobby on the first floor and going up to the eighth floor, Joo Seung-ik greeted him in front of the elevator.
“You’re back so quickly. I thought you’d have to wait a while since you contacted me so suddenly.”
“It just so happened that it wasn’t that far away. But why here?”
As I exited the elevator and scanned the hallway, I saw that each office had signs that said “conference room” and “editing room.”
I know that it is not easy for outsiders to enter places like this except for employees, but I was able to get a visitor’s pass easily.
“I was with PD Hong until a little while ago, but I received a call from the head of the headquarters right before he arrived and went. Normally, I wouldn’t be able to come up here, but today, due to the circumstances, I ended up coming all the way to the 8th floor.”
His voice sounded a bit serious when he spoke on the phone, but surprisingly his face didn’t look that gloomy.
After looking around for a moment, Joo Seung-ik pointed to the end of the hallway and said.
“I’m an outsider so I feel a bit self-conscious, but would you like to get some fresh air until PD Hong arrives?”
I followed Joo Seung-ik and opened the iron door at the end of the hallway and went outside.
Judging by the number of benches and trash cans installed, it seemed like this was a smoking area for employees.
“Manager, you don’t smoke, right?”
“Yes. But don’t worry about me and feel free to smoke. I’m so used to secondhand smoke.”
“Oh, my. It seems that non-smokers are the ones who suffer the most. Well, I’ll take the liberty of smoking one.”
Joo Seung-ik lit a cigarette, took a long drag, and then looked at Hee-seong.
“Actually, there was a competition program that Jae-wook appeared on recently. There was a problem with that program.”
I had already heard Hong Min-joong’s name over the phone, so I had expected it to some extent. Even without that, I had already been exposed to the future.
“What if there is a problem… … ?”
“I’ll have to hear the details later when PD Hong comes, but based on what I’ve heard, I think it’ll be difficult to continue the program. The situation has become so complicated.”
“Does that mean we won’t be doing a live broadcast of the competition? We were going to do it in collaboration with China?”
Joo Seung-ik nodded obediently, exhaling a sigh mixed with cigarette smoke.
“Yes, that’s right. I heard that during the process of preparing for the live broadcast competition, you suddenly took a strange stance. You broke everything that was agreed upon and said you would do everything in your favor. Phew, PD Hong is now pissed and is about to throw everything away.”
Perhaps because it is a bit further into the future, the worst situation he had seen seems to have not yet occurred.
Fortunately, I received a call from Joo Seung-ik right after that.
“Ah! PD Hong is coming over just in time. I sent him a text saying I’d be here.”
As he turned his gaze in the direction that Joo Seung-ik was looking at, he saw Hong Min-joong approaching him with his hair all messed up.
Hong Min-joong came over with a red face, as if he had come from somewhere, and greeted Hee-seong.
“I heard what Chief Joo said. My name is Hong Min-joong, the producer.”
“This is Jeong Hee-seong.”
“Yes, you’re such a famous person, I know you even if you don’t say anything. Phew, if I had seen you in good condition, I would have had a meal or a drink with you, but it’s too bad.”
With those words, Hong Min-jung also took out a cigarette and put it in his mouth.
Then he lit the lighter and spoke to Seungik Joo.
“The head of the department said to just proceed as planned. The trailer and promotional articles have all been released, so there’s no way we can change it now. We’ve already received all the advertisements.”
“Oh my… … I see. There was an advertising issue. Since it was advertised so extensively, there must have been a lot of advertising inquiries.”
“It’s not just inquiries, but the 8-week supply is almost sold out. It’s a great opportunity for advertisers, as it will be seen by viewers not only domestically but also internationally. That’s why the unit price was set quite high.”
The advertisements mentioned here are advertisements that are attached to the program.
Advertisements that last several tens of seconds and are shown before and after broadcasts, including PPLs that are directly exposed to the broadcast content.
“The situation has come to this, but we have already done a lot, so let’s just move on. If we stop here, the damage to the broadcasting station will be enormous.”
“Who is that, the chief?”
“Yes. That’s why I told you not to talk nonsense. Even if dirt gets in my eyes, or even if the sky splits in two, that would never happen. Would I rather get hit by those guys once than twice?”
“What the hell is going on? I was listening to it earlier, but I got called out and left, so tell me more carefully. What on earth did those Chinese guys ask for?”
Hong Min-jung opened his mouth after smoking a cigarette in response to Joo Seung-ik’s question.
“At first, these guys suddenly wanted to hold the competition stage in their own country. They had already agreed from the program planning stage that the live competition would be held in our country. They thought that the results of the competition would be disadvantageous to them.”
“The competition stage? You said you’d focus more on overseas votes than on the votes of your own citizens anyway? That way, the vote will be objective and fair.”
“Yes, that’s right. But they are still insisting that they can’t do this competition unless it’s held in their own country. So I said, why don’t we just hold it in a third country? A place like Japan?”
“So what are you saying? Is that okay?”
Hong Min-jung sighed heavily, saying, “How could that be?”
“They say that their relationship with Japan is just as bad as ours, so that is absolutely unacceptable. Are you saying that without knowing your own history?”
Just as our country and Japan have historical problems, so do China and Japan.
So, Japan is even more of a no-no.
“Then what are you going to do? If you do it in your own country, it will be more advantageous for you. But you still insist on it?”
“Yes. He said that he would do it fairly and that the important thing was the scale of the stage. He said that they were the most overwhelming country in the world in terms of capital and manpower. He said that he would show us the scale of the continent and that we should just follow him.”
“Ha, right… … .”
Joo Seung-ik’s reaction was that he tried to refute it for a moment, but it seemed like he thought it was not wrong.
Certainly, China has always surpassed imagination in that regard.
“Why on earth are you suddenly doing this? There must have been some agreement from the beginning, and it must have all been written into the contract. And yet you’re insisting?”
“I also told them because I wondered what these kids did wrong that made them act like this. This is something we planned and are leading. Did you forget? It’s written in the contract that we can stop it at any time if we proceed unilaterally without mutual agreement.”
“therefore?”
“From that moment on, his expression changed completely, as if he had been waiting for that story to come up.”
“What? What are you talking about?”
Hong Min-jung tossed the cigarette that had gotten close to the filter into the ashtray and put a new cigarette in his mouth.
Then he lit the fire and continued talking.
“Whew, just thinking about that time makes my blood boil… … Do you know what those kids say? They ask why the program is ours, that it was planned and created by them from the beginning and suggested to us. That there must be some kind of misunderstanding.”
Joo Seung-ik became dumbfounded at those words.
I wondered how he could say something like that, no matter how shameless he was.
“What… … ? What on earth are you talking about… … ? Did the Chinese representative really say that?”
“Haha, yes. He was talking without blinking an eye and even laughing, it was so ridiculous. For a moment, I thought this kid was on drugs. That’s why I thought he couldn’t see anything.”
Hong Min-jung continued speaking, spitting out sarcasm as if he still couldn’t believe it.
“That’s why they said that they were the ones who aired the show first, and that’s why Korea didn’t say anything until now. It’s been almost four months since the first broadcast.”
“Broadcast? What broadcast are you talking about? If it’s a competition, didn’t we start it first?”
Hong Min-jung shook his head.
“No, what we originally agreed to was to start broadcasting at the same time. If we start at 10 tonight, you can do the same.”
“But? But why do you say they started it first?”
“Whew, that’s because of the time difference. It was stipulated as 10 o’clock in the contract, but in reality, there is a one-hour time difference between China and Korea. That’s what they’re clinging to right now.”
“time difference?”
In other words, in the contract, it was agreed that the recorded version would be aired simultaneously at 10 PM, but in reality, 10 PM was 9 PM in China.
Because China is one hour behind Korea.
“Wow… … Could it be that these guys planned this from the beginning? Did they calculate it all the way to there?”
“I don’t know. The important thing is that they are incredibly stupid. Do you think we turned a blind eye to them because we didn’t know they were doing that? We did it because it didn’t matter. Even if we did, would they really be the planners of this program?”
Joo Seung-ik nods obediently to Hong Min-jung’s words.
“That’s right. That’s just nonsense. If it was going to work out just by insisting like that, why would there be copyright and trademarks?”
“Yes.”
“So how does PD Hong plan to respond? What they’re asking for is to have the live broadcast stage in their country, but PD Hong doesn’t think he’ll do that even if he dies. Then shouldn’t they follow along without complaint? The head of the headquarters is saying that the broadcast must go on unconditionally even if it means giving in to their demands.”
Hong Min-jung smiled confidently for the first time, telling her not to worry.
“Yes, I need to show you clearly how stupid that idea is. I proposed a joint venture and sent you a plan and structure from the planning stage. My email was deleted in the meantime, so I made a new one, but that doesn’t mean there’s no evidence. I’m a very meticulous person.”
Looking at Hong Min-joong’s confident attitude, Hee-seong began to feel quite ominous.
If Hong Min-jung’s words were true, the future he saw would never have happened in the first place.
Heeseong asked him one of the things that Hong Minjoong had said a little while ago.
“You just said that your email was deleted. Did you do that voluntarily? It’s very rare for people to delete their own email accounts.”
