Have Magic - Chapter 84
Only Noblemtl
Embrace the Magic (84)
Rodin bowed deeply as he sought advice from Captain Krondel.
Captain Krondel’s insight, which he had been traveling between the Western and Eastern Continents every year, was more trustworthy than his own, whose information he had only heard through rumors.
“It depends on what Mr. Rodin wants. If you want to make a name for yourself and be promoted to a lord, a small fief is a good choice. In particular, the fiefs of rising nobles are often fought over. That means there are many opportunities to be hired and used.”
“It doesn’t suit my personality.”
“If you want a comfortable life, do the opposite. A large and strong estate with a long tradition is good.”
Being old means that it has already established itself. It also means that it has overcome countless challenges over that time.
“Thank you for your large and strong spirit.”
“It would be good to know what kind of family they are. There are four major noble families: magic families, swordsmen families, scholar families, and merchant families.”
“I heard it before, but it’s interesting that there are scholarly families and merchant families.”
“Not all scholars and merchants are nobles. However, there are many families that have remained noble for a long time.”
The scholarly and merchant families were literally the families of the lords who had been scholars or merchants for generations. Naturally, the lord’s personal military power did not answer that well.
Yet they have overcome countless challenges over the years, making up for their lack of military power by hiring strong men.
“That’s amazing.”
“Money is really important in the Central Continent. There are a lot of mercenaries and a lot of powerful people who are motivated by money.”
“Then what are the characteristics of the family?”
“The magic family literally favors magicians. Even if you don’t ask for help in the territory battle, if you’re a magician, you can receive a lot of help. In particular, things like administrative procedures are almost always passed without a hitch.”
The group called wizards consider themselves noble and chosen beings. That’s why they tend not to get close to anyone who isn’t a wizard.
“What about the swordsmanship family?”
“They don’t trust hastily hired mercenaries. They don’t like novice swordsmen. They only trust knights they’ve trained over time or those who have studied swordsmanship for a long time at the domain’s swordsmiths. If Mr. Rodin were to settle in the domain of a swordsman family, he might never have anything to do with the lord again.”
Rodin was a 5th circle wizard. Even Darren, Jefferson, Sylvia, and Captain Krondel knew Rodin as a 6th circle wizard.
And yet, he never got involved with the lord. I could guess how confident he was in his own power.
“That’s interesting.”
“The security forces and guards use soldiers, but everything else can be considered knights.”
“What about merchant families and scholar families?”
“The merchant and scholar families are rational, and they are not at all ashamed to use people for money. If they find out that Mr. Rodin is a wizard, they will definitely seek him out. And they will work quite hard to hire him.”
Captain Krondel’s advice was very helpful.
Rodin had more or less made up his mind about where to settle down.
‘Am I weird?’
Rodin was a wizard. A 5th circle wizard, quite a skilled wizard for his age.
However, the place I decided on in my heart was the Knight family. Somehow, I felt that if I settled in the Knight family’s territory, I would be able to live without any troubles.
“Thank you. It really helped me a lot.”
“The Central Continent is generally rational and values efficiency. In the Western Continent, the level of an inspector is called ‘Dena’ level. In the Central Continent, even that level is long, so they just call it ‘level’.”
“I can guess what kind of atmosphere it will be.”
Rodin also liked this tendency. Even in the special forces training camp, he hated the etiquette classes that emphasized appearances the most.
“I see today’s destination over there.”
“That’s right. It’s the last city on the Western Continent.”
The city seen in the distance was El Peso, a port city of the Kingdom of Asran. Like other cities, they were planning to stay here for two days and set sail the day after tomorrow morning.
* * *
The Capleton docked at El Peso. Knowing that it was their last port, the passengers disembarked en masse and went to the port’s inn.
“Let’s get off too.”
“Brother, shouldn’t you get off? There’s no need to get off.”
“I have business to attend to today.”
“Then there’s nothing we can do.”
El Peso was the port city where Bron and his party had originally intended to board the ship. Of course, it was still a long way to go. It seemed like it would take about half a year before they would arrive.
I got off the ship with my brothers and stayed at an inn. I planned to stay for two days and had dinner right away.
Larry and Bianca didn’t leave even after dinner. They had been moving around fearlessly on the ship, but they still seemed afraid to go out in port.
Rodin ended his day by attending Mr. Proval’s Welcome class as usual.
As the 2 o’clock class approached, Rodin began to look forward to class even more.
The 2 o’clock class, where I learned something new that I didn’t know, was more enjoyable than the 1 o’clock class, where I was bored and had to listen to things I already knew.
The next day, Rodin left the inn after finishing breakfast and bought some herbs that could be purchased cheaply in the Western Continent.
The herbs I bought today were ingredients for making an ancient vision potion. They weren’t herbs that couldn’t be bought on the central continent, but they were much cheaper to buy on the western continent.
I returned to the inn after buying just enough to make 10 liters. It cost exactly 388 gold.
After buying the herbs, I stopped by a shop that sells accessories. I bought two sets of rings, a necklace, and a bracelet, and also bought some hairpins that matched Bianca’s hair color.
“Work is over. Let’s go study.”
“yes.”
The next day, we boarded the Capleton ship without delay. As soon as the ship set sail, Rodin laid out the trinkets he had bought yesterday.
“Brother, what are you doing?”
“I’m going to make a gift for you guys.”
“What gift?”
“With something that can protect you.”
If I explain what an artifact is, it will be a long story, so I’ll just summarize it briefly and focus on the accessories.
‘Mana Stones are low-level. They cannot hold high-level magic. At best, they can hold 2nd-circle magic or several 1st-circle magics.’
Rodin was confident in his ability to create artifacts. He had created artifacts for Hedler and Lant, and he had no complaints about the artifacts he had created for his own use.
But my confidence was shattered when I happened to obtain Proval’s box, pocket watch, and ring.
Proval’s artifact made his own artifacts look like trash. He felt a sense of inferiority, thinking that no matter how hard he tried, he would never be able to reach that level.
But I couldn’t just give up. I had to keep making things, improve my skills, and learn new things by consistently attending Proval’s welcoming classes.
‘I definitely need to make one for the purpose of sending signals.’
I couldn’t send Undine away every time my siblings went out.
Undine was a summoned spirit, and spirits did not like to be separated from their spirit master.
Attaching Undine to Larry and Bianca was like forcing Undine to do something she didn’t like.
‘I’d like a bracelet that I don’t take off easily.’
Yesterday, I engraved the coordinate calculation runes on the new bracelet I bought, and linked it to the bracelet I had so that it would send a signal at a specific activation word.
‘That’s the end of the bracelet.’
Next up are the rings and necklaces. I took out the ring first and thought about the magic I would engrave for a moment.
‘I’d like a feather fall.’
As the name suggests, it was a magic that had the effect of slowing down the fall speed and preventing injury.
If the 5-circle fly magic was a magic that allowed you to fly freely in the sky, then the 3-circle or 4-circle levitation was a magic that allowed you to rise into the air.
In comparison, the 2nd circle Feather Fall is a magic that causes you to fall slowly. Naturally, it is of lower level than Fly and Levitation.
However, the magic that could be engraved on the ring was limited to this level. To engrave higher level magic, the ring had to be larger or a better mana stone had to be used.
‘Or maybe my skills need to improve.’
Since I can’t raise my skills by a few levels right now, I decided to be satisfied with this.
All that’s left is the necklace.
The magic to be engraved here has already been decided.
‘A magic shield or an aqua shield would be good.’
Both were magics that protected their owners from external attacks.
The magic shield was weak in defending against attributes, but it was useful in blocking physical attacks. It was a suitable magic to deal with bad back-alley thugs and rough mercenaries.
In comparison, Aqua Shield was excellent at blocking attributes, especially fire attributes.
Fire magic is the most preferred attribute for wizards. If the opponent is a wizard, it would be a better choice to carve Aqua Shield.
‘A magic shield would be better.’
There was a higher chance of running into trouble from thugs or mercenaries than from wizards. Now, there was no choice but to prepare for the high probability of something happening.
What if, by bad luck, the wizard targets children in your absence? That’s really unavoidable.
“Ugh.”
All magic engraved. Necklace, bracelet, ring. I made the accessories into artifacts to give to Larry and Bianca.
After sitting still for almost five hours and concentrating on my work, my whole body ached. I could only lightly turn my neck and it made a thud sound.
“When can I give this to you?”
Even though I made the artifacts, the necklace and ring were useless if I gave them to the children.
A necklace with Magic Shield magic and a ring with Feather Fall magic are activated artifacts.
It was an item that could only be used if one had a little bit of magic power or aura.
However, the bracelet that always tells you the location coordinates is a persistent artifact, so children can still use it. However, they need help when they first cast the spell.
“Let’s take a rest.”
I was just about to take the Proval Welcome class, but then I changed my mind.
On days when I had listened to Captain Krondel’s advice, I decided to go out on deck often. It was a good place to clear my head, even if I had no special business to attend to.
The deck was packed with people today too.
There were many people sitting here and there, drinking tea and alcohol, and there were also people lying in hammocks and sleeping leisurely.
“As long as there’s music, it’s a party.”
I scanned the deck. Today again, Captain Krondel was sitting on a chair in the corner, staring blankly out at the sea.
“Huh? I guess that kid is Bianca’s friend.”
Bianca was running around the deck with a girl of similar age.
When Bianca ran away, her friend would follow her, and on the other hand, when her friend ran away, Bianca would chase after her while laughing loudly.
“You look happy.”
“Huh? Hyung!”
Larry, who was laughing while looking at Bianca and her friend, spotted Rodin.
Rodin, as always, had his hood pulled down low.
Just by looking at his clothes, he seemed like someone who covered his face and planned something sinister, but Larry knew why Rodin covered his face.
“It must be really uncomfortable for you too, hyung.”
“You were here?”
“Yes. It’s so different from land. No one worries about war either.”
As Larry said, everyone was smiling. No one seemed distressed by the war.
“The atmosphere is good. Is anyone bothering you?”
“None. They’re all good people.”
Rodin almost burst out laughing at Larry’s assessment that he was a good person. How could all those people be good people?
The reason people are so kind to children is because this is the Capleton. They naturally assume that children are no ordinary passengers on a ship that boasts a huge fare.
The passengers on this ship were usually nobles, upper class people, or people with special abilities.
If you carelessly ignore someone, you could end up getting in big trouble.
Another reason was that Larry and Bianca were wearing nice clothes.
Although they weren’t flashy, Larry and Bianca bought expensive clothes made of good fabric, which made them look like kids from a wealthy family.
“Take good care of Bianca.”
“Yes, don’t worry.”
Leaving Larry behind, he headed toward Captain Krondel. Captain Krondel noticed Rodin’s approach and smiled, offering him the front seat.
“See you again, Mr. Rodin.”
“Yes, Captain. The wind is just right today, which is nice.”
“I hope it continues like this.”
The wind felt good on my body. The cool breeze seemed to wash away the summer heat and give me new energy.
“You said you were thinking of settling in the Central Continent?”
“Yes. I plan to do that until my younger siblings grow up a bit.”
Larry and Bianca needed to grow up, but Rodin also needed a quiet place to be without distractions.
The magic in the library’s deep storage was in disarray. Even the chairman, Crate, had written down his magic as he thought of it and made a book out of it, and the magic records stored in the Kingdom of Riaz were also shuffled around without any order.
I had memorized it all, but I needed to organize it myself. I also had to finish listening to Proval’s welcome class.
“Do you intend to settle in the kingdom of Thebia?”
“Actually, we haven’t decided where to settle down yet. We decided to go to the Kingdom of Tebia for now, since it’s the closest place to the Western Continent.”
The fastest ship to the Central Continent was the Capleton, and its final destination was Hasson, a port city in the Kingdom of Thevia. If there had been a faster ship to another kingdom, they would have taken that ship.
“Then how about the Kingdom of Lennox? The Marquisate of Richmond would suit you, Mr. Rodin.”
“What is the Marquisate of Richmond? Is it the classification that Captain Krondel spoke of before?”
“You should consider it a swordsmanship family. The Marquis of Richmond is a master-level knight.”
“Ah! Master.”
Rodin’s eyes lit up at the word ‘Master’. At the same time, an instinctive curiosity sprouted in him.
I’ve only heard of them, but I’ve never seen a 7th Circle Archmage or Master before. I wanted to meet them at least once. If possible, as friends rather than enemies.
“hmm?”
“It’s a pirate!”
