Have Magic - Chapter 86
Only Noblemtl
Embrace the Magic (86)
After dealing with all the pirates, Darren and his party returned. Just then, dark clouds gathered and a storm raged.
The Capleton was a large merchant ship, so it was capable of weathering the storm on its own. If it was really difficult, it could ask Rodin, a 5th circle wizard, for help.
But the merchant ships that were attacked by pirate ships were a problem. They were small and hardly prepared for the storm.
“They’re not prepared for pirates, and they have no handles to hold onto in a storm. A rookie like that is going to end up a water ghost if he goes out to sea.”
When a storm came, not all of the sailors were allowed to enter the cabin. They had to adjust the sails somehow to minimize damage from the wind.
But that small merchant ship had no grab handles or long ropes on its deck for the sailors to grab onto. It also lacked any device to turn the sails from a distance.
It seemed as if they had decided to only load luggage, and had removed all the essential items for safety.
“There’s nothing I can do.”
Captain Crondel did a good deed. He lowered a rope and tied the Capleton to a small merchant ship that was tossing wildly in the wind.
The Capleton’s massive size helped the small merchant ship avoid the worst of the storm. It rocked wildly for nearly five hours, but somehow managed to hold on.
As soon as the storm cleared, the Capleton quickly retrieved the ropes that had connected it to the small merchant ship and, without looking back, sailed to Hasson, a port city in the Kingdom of Thebia.
At the time when the Capleton had rescued the small merchant ship, Rodin returned to his cabin. Larry and Bianca waited eagerly for Rodin to arrive.
“Brother! Are you okay?”
“Brother!”
Rodin gave Larry and Bianca a quick hug, sat down, and pointed ahead with his hand.
“Sit down.”
“why?”
“Now, these. These are your gifts.”
Before going up to the deck, Rodin took out a bracelet from among the finished accessories. It was an artifact that contained magic that could tell the coordinates.
“What is it?”
“Artifact.”
“What is that?”
“It’s a magical item. This bracelet will allow me to know your location. If it’s late at night and I don’t see you, or if I feel something suspicious, then I can go find you.”
Larry and Bianca stared at the bracelet for a long time, their faces not quite understanding what Rodin was saying.
“I could get kidnapped like last time. That’s why I prepared it. I wear it on my arm and walk around.”
“Will the water not protect us like last time?”
“Undine doesn’t like to leave my side. Forcing her to do things she doesn’t want to do is too cruel to her.”
“That’s right. You shouldn’t force someone to do something they don’t like.”
Bianca was the first to grab the bracelet and put it on her wrist. It was so big that it dangled around on her wrist.
Rodin grabbed Bianca’s wrist and gently infused magic into the bracelet. The bracelet shrank to fit Bianca’s wrist.
“Wow! This is amazing.”
“It’s magic. Larry, wear it too.”
“yes.”
Larry also put on the bracelet, and Rodin used his magic to shrink it down to a size that was neither too tight nor too loose, just right.
“As you grow older, you may find the bracelets a bit too tight. You don’t have magic or aura, so they don’t adjust automatically. So if you feel them too tight on your wrist, come and tell me.”
“yes.”
“all right.”
* * *
It only took 20 days to get from the place where the pirates were encountered to Hathorn.
But those 20 days were more difficult than the previous months.
As if the smooth sailing so far was a dream, we encountered storms every single day.
Naturally, the relaxed atmosphere on deck disappeared. Passengers endured the rocking in their cabins, and the crew struggled to manage the ship in the storm.
Even nightmares eventually end in waking up.
As they approached within two days of Hathorn, the storm suddenly died down. The Capleton sailed leisurely through the calm winds.
And two days passed. The loud voice of the sailor who was watching the watch rang through the sign.
“It’s land!”
“It’s Ha-son!”
It was a long-awaited clear day, so the passengers who came out onto the deck cheered especially loudly.
Even Rodin couldn’t help but laugh today.
The voyage over the past 18 days has been particularly difficult. Frequent storms have rocked the ship too much, and Larry and Bianca have suffered particularly from severe seasickness.
“Brother, can I not ride the boat anymore?”
“Yeah. If I get off there, I won’t have to take the boat anymore. I’ll take the carriage instead.”
“Yeah. I like carriages. They’re exciting. They’re fun.”
“Well, if you ride a carriage for a long time, it’s several times more tiring than riding a boat.”
The Capleton, moving slowly, docked at Hathorn’s wharf. The large wooden bridge was lowered, and the passengers, smiling brightly, stepped off the deck.
This is the final destination of the Capleton. This is where all passengers currently on board disembark.
Rodin was the last of the passengers to disembark. He said a sad farewell to Captain Krondel and a brief farewell to Darren, Jefferson, and Sylvia.
“let’s go.”
“Brother, are you going to buy a carriage right away?”
“No. It seems a bit late to leave today. Let’s find a hotel and have lunch first.”
As soon as I brought my brothers out, I was immediately stopped for security checks. Not only Rodin and his party, but all the passengers who got off the Capleton were subject to security checks.
The port city of Hasson was practically a border with every country bordering the sea. It was impossible to allow foreigners to freely enter the country. Inspection was a natural procedure.
Rodin passed through the security check by presenting his mercenary badge, while Larry and Bianca presented the identification badges they had bought from Lance. It was fortunate that they had prepared their identification badges in advance.
“Brother! It’s a stagecoach.”
“Yeah. Same as Lance.”
The stagecoach system itself was originally a system that existed in the central continent. Someone saw the business potential in that system and started the same business in Rance.
“Shall we take a ride?”
“huh.”
I had to take the carriage anyway.
To get to the Marquisate of Richmond, you would have to hire a carriage anyway, and carriages and horses were usually located near the city gates, on the opposite side of the harbor.
Rodin lined up with his brothers and got into the carriage. He told the coachman to take him to the inn street near the city gate.
The carriage stopped after running for almost an hour. There were a dozen or so inns around, and the road led to the northern gate.
We got out of the carriage and went into the most splendid-looking inn. And here, too, we rented an annex.
The villa life in Rance was quite satisfactory.
Since I lived independently, I didn’t have to worry about being disturbed by anyone. Thanks to that, I was able to take the Proval Welcome class with peace of mind.
The meals they brought me every meal were fantastic. There was a space to exercise in front of the room, and no one said anything even if my younger siblings were a little loud.
“It’s better here.”
The inn I stayed at this time was more developed overall than Rance. The annex was a bit larger, and the facilities were cleaner.
But the accommodation was cheaper than in Rance. It was almost half the price, so much so that I felt like I had been ripped off in Rance.
“Brother, isn’t this place too expensive?”
“It’s okay. This much is okay.”
“Still. I think I should save it.”
“You worry about your brother so much. You’re all grown up now.”
After lunch, Rodin left the inn right away.
The first place we stopped by was Ma Market.
I bought two horses and a carriage to match. I wanted to buy a four-horse carriage, but I gave up because they said they wouldn’t sell it to anyone but the nobility.
I left my carriage at the inn’s stable and wandered around Hasson’s commercial district.
“Hmm, accessories are cheaper in the central continent after all.”
Unlike the Western Continent where herbs were considerably cheaper, crafted goods requiring technology were much cheaper in the Central Continent.
The Western Continent was not a place where craftsmen were treated well. There were still many countries where the slave system remained, so it was common to use all sorts of tricks to turn excellent craftsmen into slaves.
On the other hand, the central continent had an atmosphere in which craftsmen were treated well and the value of the items they made was recognized.
So, many excellent craftsmen were produced, and many craftsmen from the Western and Eastern Continents also came to the Central Continent.
“I should have bought the kids’ trinkets here.”
The price was the price, but it was much prettier. For Bianca, a girl, the delicately crafted bracelets sold in Hason suited her better than the crude bracelets from the Western Continent.
“Should I change my necklace?”
The magic contained in the necklace that was intended for my younger siblings was a magic shield. It was an item that would sell well even if put on the market.
“Should I just sell the ring here?”
The magic contained in the ring, Feather Fall, was a bit ambiguous. It was an appropriate magic for my younger siblings, but I wasn’t sure if it would sell in the market.
“Miscellaneous goods…, no.”
In the Western Continent, general stores sold all sorts of things. Mana stones were sold, and potions were sold. Herbs used for common diseases such as fever and cough could also be purchased at general stores.
But Hasson was specialized in everything. The general store really only sold miscellaneous goods, and there was a separate section for magical items.
‘That would be nice.’
I entered a fairly large magic goods store. There were quite a few customers choosing items.
‘Potions are really cheap, after all.’
The price of the wound healing potion on the display was 21 gold. It was only half of the price on the Western Continent, which was over 40 gold.
However, it was still much more expensive than the usual price of 10 gold. The war in the Western Continent had an impact here.
“excuse me.”
“Yes, sir. What did you come to buy?”
“I’m trying to sell something.”
Rodin took out two necklaces containing magic shields and two rings containing feather poles.
The merchant’s eyes flashed for a moment, then settled on the necklace and bracelet. He seemed to be examining them quite carefully.
“Hmm, no matter how much I look at it, I don’t get it. Could you explain it to me?”
“yes.”
It was natural that it would be difficult for others to recognize.
Rodin didn’t like the artifacts leaking magic power without any purpose. So he would scrape as much magic power as he could and put it all into the magic he was carving.
This increases the power of the artifact. Even if it contains the same magic, it is safe to say that its actual value is much higher.
Also, since no magical power leaked out, it looked like an ordinary accessory on the outside.
Since others were unaware of the existence of the artifact, it was possible to use the artifact as a stroke of genius.
‘It’s still a long way off, though.’
Rodin also used up all his magic power, but it was embarrassing compared to Proval’s box, ring, and pocket watch.
Even Rodin, who had an incredibly keen sense of magic, had difficulty sensing Proval’s artifact unless he concentrated hard.
“Can you explain the necklace first?”
“This necklace contains a magic shield. The starting word is ‘magic shield’. You can use it by injecting it with magic power.”
“Oh! What about the ring?”
The shop owner’s expression brightened even more than before. This was because the magic contained in the necklace was an ‘activation type’ artifact.
There were few places where triggered artifacts could be made, and only a few types of artifacts could be made.
There were already three places that made magic shields, but the price was high and the supply was less than 20 per year. Naturally, it was rare for a mere 20 artifacts to enter this shop, which was far from the magic tower.
“The magic contained in the ring is Feather Fall. It is a magic that slows down when falling. As expected, the starting word is ‘Feather Fall’, so let’s check it out.”
“I like that ring too. It must be rare. I’ll check it out for a moment. It’ll take about 30 minutes, so please wait in the reception room for a moment.”
“All right.”
The merchant took all the necklaces and rings and disappeared behind him.
The merchant came back exactly thirty minutes later, looking very excited.
“How many times can I use this?”
“The necklace can be reused after about 5 to 6 hours of use. The feather pole can be reused after about an hour.”
“The magic shield seems to be stronger than expected.”
“Yes. I’ve increased the strength of the magic shield by maximizing its efficiency. It will block one aura attack from a 4th-rank swordsman.”
The merchant nodded slightly at Rodin’s answer.
Among the magical shield artifacts currently being made, there are artifacts that can block the aura of a 3rd-grade swordsman, and artifacts that can create the aura of a 4th-grade swordsman. It wasn’t particularly surprising considering that they were among the highest-grade artifacts on the market.
However, it was surprising that the magic shield was contained in the necklace.
Currently, most of the magic shields made in the Magic Tower and Artifact Workshop are fairly large equipment, such as weapons, shields, armor, and belts. The artifact that contained the magic shield in a small accessory like a necklace was the first necklace that Rodin released, excluding ancient relics.
“Could it be a relic…?”
“No way. If it was a relic, would it have been brought to a place like this? It should have been taken to the Magic Tower.”
“That’s true.”
The word relic from the merchant’s mouth meant that it was an object made in ancient times.
Ancient items are more expensive, regardless of the type of magic they contain. This is because they have value as antiques and are also valuable as research materials for magic circles.
“I’ll buy it for 1,200 gold.”
“Hmm.”
“I know it’s not a satisfactory price, but until we do more verification, this is the limit. The reusability time is not yet accurate either.”
“Okay, I’ll sell it.”
For now, I decided to sell the necklace. I decided to buy something prettier for Larry and Bianca and make them into artifacts.
“And this Feather Fall… well, as you know, it’s not worth as much as a necklace. But it’s worth buying for adventurers who travel around the wilderness. I’ll give you 600 gold.”
“600 gold… um, okay.”
The necklace and ring together cost 1,800 gold. Since it was a set of 2, I earned 3,600 gold. Considering that it took less than 3 hours to make, it was a huge income.
