54: The Joy of Labor
Money is life, and the account balance is HP (Hit Points).
I’m living on an allowance.
It’s enough to cover essential expenses like rent and other living costs.
Moreover, I know how to be frugal, and I don’t have any expensive hobbies.
Yet, I decided to take on a part-time job for the sake of “survival.”

First and foremost, the majority of people in this world have a mistaken perception.
Many believe that “people cannot live without working.”
However, that’s a fallacy.
This is a world of magic, and if one perfects the technique of channeling energy within oneself to various facilities in the house (such as lighting and the kitchen), there’s no need to pay even a lifeline company—
—That’s not entirely true.
For instance, in the scientific world.
In the case of “cooking with fire,” there was a method of using a gas stove connected to a gas pipe.
For that, a contract with the gas company managing the pipe, a gas stove, and other necessities like pans and pots, as well as ingredients such as vegetables and meat, were required.
Can all of these be prepared without relying on others?
Of course, it’s possible.
There are methods other than relying on gas for making fire.
Pans are unnecessary. Cooking is possible directly over the fire.
Animals can also be found in forests, and edible wild plants grow around.
However, that way of life is challenging.
By delegating these efforts to others, social creatures can live without unnecessary struggles every day.
In this magical world, the situation is the same. People can do everything from starting fires and purifying water to making pots and even hunting for prey on their own.
However, it is too difficult and not culturally acceptable. That’s why they pay others to do it for them.
And in order to earn money, working is essential.
Nevertheless, I disagree with the phrase “I have to work to live” because I have identified an intentionally omitted premise.
“If I can receive money,” even without working, I can live.
However, there are no means other than receiving money as compensation for work in this world. This clearly indicates the malicious intentions of someone.
For example, if you want meat, you can hunt, buy it, or consider other multiple methods.
But if you want money, you must inevitably do some form of labor.
Indeed, there are “enemies” in this world.
By creating an environment where people have no choice but to work and convincing them that there is no alternative, these “enemies” aim to shorten the lifespan of all humanity through stress and overwork. I have definitely sensed the existence of these “enemies” behind the social system.
And I am aiming to defeat these “enemies”—
But I must be cautious not to let the “enemies” realize my victory.
In other words, I have to work.
But the very concept of “working” is stressful in itself.
In the online society, stories of companies exploiting their employees illegally never end, and the government inexplicably fails to enforce punishment for this.
Of course, this is in line with the intentions of the “enemies,” and my expectation that the “enemies” are exerting their authority behind this nation, no, the world, becomes even more solid.
That’s why I will go along with the intentions of the “enemies” and work.
My first goal is to be a full-time househusband, but I recognize that it is still a form of “work.”
However, if I suddenly enter society, the sudden increase in stress will undoubtedly shorten my lifespan.
Therefore, in preparation for the inevitable “labor” that awaits me, I have decided to gradually accustom my mind to this stress.
And the means to do that is through “part-time work.”
However, if I were to suddenly jump into an unfamiliar environment, I wouldn’t be able to achieve my goal of “gradually getting used to the stress.”
I need to choose an appropriate workplace… In such a moment, I received a certain invitation.
“I’m looking for someone to fill the position of a hall staff member after I leave my part-time job. Are you interested?”
It was an invitation from Anna-san, who had become a third-year university student.
To take over her position—this is something I have done many times in my life.
By fulfilling Anna-san’s expectations, my life has been going smoothly.
And this time as well, there was no reason for me not to respond.
“Thank you. It will be for about half a year, but I will be fully dedicated to teaching you the job.”
Anna-san’s dedication is amazing, and I am extremely grateful.
It was a mysterious and exciting feeling. Could it be that work is enjoyable? I even had the illusion that it might be.
And so, I ended up working in the same workplace as Anna-san.
My university life and my working life are now beginning.
