How the Prince Makes Friends - Chapter 113
Only Noblemtl
Episode 113
“You’re up too.”
Rianus jumped down from the bed, carefully picked up the squirming puppy, and climbed back into bed.
Although he had not taken good care of it himself, the puppy seemed healthy, perhaps because Nihil and his servants had taken good care of it.
Lianus rubbed the puppy against his face. It was soft and warm. It was so cute how it sucked without fail when he put his finger on it.
Lianus placed the puppy on Nihil’s face. The puppy flailed around Nihil’s face without knowing what was going on. A normal person would have woken up or frowned, but there was no change in the expression on his friend’s face.
Lianus began to tease his friend, half in an attempt to lull him to sleep and half in an attempt to wake him up. At first, he would lightly press his cheek or braid his hair, but by the time Evan arrived, the teasing had reached its peak.
“……Prince?”
Evan called out to Lianus in a trembling voice. The kitten was climbing onto the lynx and slapping it, and the puppy was joining in on the bullying. Even in the midst of all this, the little guy didn’t wake up.
Evan carefully picked up Rianus and the puppy, just realizing that Nihil’s harassment all night wasn’t even close to being abusive.
“Why?”
Lianus looked up at Evan, a little dissatisfied, as the soft, warm warmth disappeared.
“Your Majesty, please bear with me for a little longer, even if you are bored. I am sure he is very tired as well.”
“Ugh……”
“…Well, since he doesn’t wake up even after doing this, I think it’ll be okay….”
Evan quickly placed the sullen kitten back down next to the lynx.
“Well, I’ll put up with it.”
Evan smiled as he looked at the kitten, who nodded as if he was doing a good deed, and briefly told him what had happened yesterday.
“The Queen’s letter arrived yesterday.”
“……The Queen?”
“Yes. Directly to him. This is a copy of the letter.”
Evan handed Lianus a slightly torn envelope and a piece of paper with the letter copied verbatim.
Lianus wondered why he was being given a manuscript rather than the queen’s letter, but when he saw its contents, his face hardened and he began reading the letter.
“Lunch tomorrow? Why lunch and not tea time? The place is, the palace…….”
Lianus was relieved that the meeting place was not the Queen’s Palace. I don’t know what their plan is, but a tiger’s den would be better than a snake’s den.
It was thanks to Sedes that the location was chosen as the main palace, but Lianus had no way of knowing that.
Evan continued.
“The boy asked the butler for a reply. He was worried that Baedong would ruin the precious luncheon because he was not educated.”
“It’s not Baedong, it’s a friend…”
“He would know better.”
Evan didn’t say that Nihil had replied directly. If the prince didn’t know anything about the Queen’s slander, there would be a loophole to get around it.
I wondered if that could be considered a reply, but I clearly expressed my opinion by marking it with an ‘X’, so I thought the queen would have been aware of my intention.
“But why a manuscript?”
“…That’s a little… dirty.”
“……?”
Lianus tilted his head as if wondering what on earth could possibly be done to taint a letter from the queen, but Evan quickly changed the subject.
“And the guy asked the butler to keep an eye on the three servants. He said he would tell the prince himself, but….”
“What did the servants do? Should we kick them out?”
“Why don’t you think he might have done something wrong?”
“There’s no way I did anything wrong. And even if I did, it’s okay!”
Evan looked down at his master with a subtle expression, who seemed to have no intention of stopping Nihil’s unruly behavior.
I was starting to get a little worried. I wondered if it was okay to blindly trust them like this. If this continued, if that damn cat told me to fire them, I would fire them all.
“Your Majesty, blind faith will only bring trouble later. I know that he is not the type of person to harm others out of personal grudges, but….”
“Well, if he tells me to fire him, then he’s a really bad person.”
“……Yeah, I guess so.”
Evan couldn’t deny it either. There’s no one who can see people as objectively as that guy. It might be a little different when it comes to the prince, though.
First, Evan thought it was best to explain the situation, so he changed the subject. The guy had hidden the gold coins for a ‘treasure hunt’, and when he went out to Shaton Street, the servants had retrieved the gold coins instead, and there were three people who had stolen the gold coins during the process. And he had even ordered those three people to be put under surveillance.
“Moreover, it seems that the guy intentionally hid the gold coins only in front of the servants. He did this so that everyone would know that he was hiding the gold coins without anyone saying anything else.”
“I’ve been thinking about this for a while now…, it’s detailed.”
“Yes. There is also a rumor that she carries around the prince’s teddy bear when the prince is not around. I think it was probably to show off her relationship with the prince to the servants.”
Evan continued his explanation and handed me a wad of paper.
“And this is about the personal details of the servants that the guy asked the butler to take care of, as well as the rumors going around within the palace.”
Lianus took the paper Evan handed him and skimmed through the personal information of the servants before reading the rumors first.
“Well… I understand that there are misunderstandings because of its appearance and mysterious aura, but why are there rumors going around that if you hear its voice, you will be lucky, or that it is a spirit that has not yet learned human language?”
“This guy, it seems like he hasn’t opened his mouth to anyone except the prince, me, the butler, and the head maid. He even avoids all the servants so well that it’s said that if you run into him, you’ll be lucky. There’s a reason why such strange rumors are going around.”
“Since you entered the palace until now?”
“Yes. I have already told the butler and the head maid not to mention me at all.”
“Why?”
“……Shouldn’t you ask him about that?”
The two looked at Nihil, who was lying there like a corpse, at the same time. What on earth was he thinking with that small head?
“Well, I guess everyone has their own thoughts… ”
Lianus said that he could ask Nihil after he woke up, and Evan changed the subject because he knew that it was pointless to think about it.
“And regarding the additional hiring of servants that the Prince previously ordered, there is still about a month left until the recruitment period. The interviews for prospective servants and maids will be held at the main palace after they have gone through the entrance procedures, and the maids and servants will be using the 8th Street Opera Hall. It is a bit premature, as recruitment has only just begun……”
As Evan hesitated to speak, for some reason, Rian noticed first and opened his mouth.
“I guess there are no applicants.”
“Those who apply as maids or servants will do okay, but it’s safe to say that there are no noble applicants. They are all vassals of the Duke. Furthermore, if you really want to plant people, it might be difficult to weed them out.”
“Hmm……”
Rian seemed to hesitate for a moment, then just shook his head.
“Let’s leave all that to him.”
“yes?”
“…Won’t you take care of it?”
As he spoke, Lianus stared blankly at his friend who was sleeping like a corpse. Since my friend had a strange ability to see through people’s minds, wouldn’t he go and find someone suspicious?
“The maid was rather concerned that the guy was getting too involved……”
Lianus shrugged his shoulders as if to say, “So what’s the problem?”
“Then I guess I can trust you and leave it to you.”
“You are too complacent. What are you going to do if this guy plants only his own people?”
Evan was worried that his master might make a mistake in the distant future, even though he knew that Nihil would not do so.
But Rian tilted his head and asked back.
“really?”
“…….”
Evan couldn’t help but pause for a moment as he looked into her straight, sincere eyes that asked, ‘Do you really think so?’
Where on earth does that blind faith come from? In fact, isn’t it possible that the lynx has already used some means to brainwash the prince?
Evan thought for a moment and then answered briefly.
“no.”
Worrying was a luxury, as he might have already been brainwashed.
“That guy… won’t be harmful. But wouldn’t there be conflicts because our values are different?”
“Uh… is that so?”
Lianus tilted his head, wondering what on earth could possibly be causing such a conflict with his close friend.
Evan continued.
“Your Majesty, what would you do if, just maybe, the kingdom were to be destroyed and you were left helpless?”
“Huh…? Hmm, maybe you’ll try something?”
“Even if your life is in danger?”
“But I can’t run away. I’m royalty.”
“It is the duty of royalty to protect one’s own safety. You must survive by any means necessary and rebuild the kingdom.”
“But I… think that royal bloodlines are useless.”
My mother, who was looked down upon because she was a half-elf.
What was different and what was lacking about elves compared to humans, or about humans compared to elves, that they deserved to be treated like that?
What was needed to stand above someone was not noble blood, but power. It is not those with noble blood who become powerful, but those with power who become noble blood.
“Bloodline is not important in establishing a kingdom. Someone else will establish the kingdom. I will live in the present and die protecting my kingdom.”
Shouldn’t he repay what he had enjoyed by being born into royalty? Saying that he would survive and rebuild the kingdom was no different from saying that he would enjoy power once more.
“Do you think this guy thinks so too?”
“…huh?”
“People’s values are bound to be different. I can’t say that the prince’s judgment is wrong, but I can’t say that it’s right either. Just like I can’t judge that only one person is right between someone who looks at the present and does his best in the present and someone who plans for the future and moves carefully.”
At Evan’s serious words, Lianus’ eyes widened.
“Don’t think that he would make the same judgment even if the prince couldn’t leave his seat to fulfill his royal duties. If he were……”
“……?”
Evan thought for a moment. It didn’t seem like the lynx would go to great lengths to save the kingdom. But it didn’t seem like he would leave the prince in such a dangerous situation.
“Should I kidnap him and raise him…?”
“……I… am being raised?”
“Oh, no, what I mean is…!”
Evan waved his hand, embarrassed by his slip of the tongue. Rianus looked back and forth between Evan and Nihil, then laughed and said brightly.
“Then I’ll just be raised!”
“yes?!”
Lianus laughed again, whether his knight was terrified or not, and covered the sleeping Nihil with the blanket.
“Ni-il, I’m bored~”
Lianus was going to be spoiled, sullen, and loved like this. He would have to worry about the difficult things later.
Nihil, who had been sleeping like a corpse, slowly raised his eyelids as he had always done.
