Chapter 20. Patriot (14)
* * * * *
‘Evergreen Public Health Center’ is located in the center of Silvertown.
It is a two-story building located next to a four-lane road, and for a small building, it has a fairly large parking lot and is surrounded by a fence high enough to keep out chicks.
From ambulances that can send ambulances anywhere in Silver Town, medical equipment that allows precise diagnosis, and medical staff that are on standby 24 hours a day.
All of these benefits were free. This was because it was already included in the Silver Town moving-in fee. Anyway, that’s what it said on the homepage screen.
The laptop was connected to a communications satellite in the western country of Minsk, and was safe thanks to Cassandra’s anti-tracking protocol, but the speed was a bit slow.
“You want to go here? Defense seems too difficult. There is no fence and the road is a big road. The glass window is so big that if a zombie hits it with its head, it will break right through.”
“It looks convenient for parking a car, but other than that, it doesn’t seem to have any particular advantages.”
Camilla and Leticia sat side by side in front of the laptop and each said a word. It was quite surprising. It’s not that the two women agreed, but that they were so close that their hips were touching. Even in the cramped trailer, the two were reluctant to come into contact with each other.
“That has changed a lot.”
I handed out my smartphone to the two women. It was a place where Cassandra and I said, ‘Let’s just go around here and come back if there is no harvest.’ It looked better than we thought, so we took a picture.
The fence that was about ankle high was replaced by a cement wall that was taller than most people. A mounted machine gun battery reinforced with sandbags was placed on the roof of a building painted with colorful paint.
Military trucks, tents, sandbag batteries, and barbed wire barricades were installed on the four-lane road, completely surrounding the Evergreen Public Health Center.
In addition, a large flag was hung on the flagpole instead of the Elsa flag. It was a flag torn and tattered by wind and rain, but Leticia managed to find a clue.
“Hmm, it’s the 284th National Military Police flag. And… It’s the headquarters flag. That’s strange. Why was the headquarters unit here?”
It was a strange thing. This is a human-free zone. When the evacuation order was issued, all military units were said to have moved to the protected area to regroup and redeploy their operational areas.
Moreover, the headquarters is an organization equivalent to the head of a military unit, to which the core officers and soldiers belong. I couldn’t understand why they set up camp here.
“Even if they launch an operation, most of them are located in key public institutions such as city hall or provincial office, or in police stations or fire stations. If that doesn’t work, take a seat at a military base in the city. I don’t have a seat at this Silver Town public health center. “Is this really the headquarters unit?”
It was a reasonable suspicion. I showed the following picture. In fact, this was why I decided I had to go here.
Camilla and Leticia’s eyes widened immediately.
“Is this really possible?”
“Yes. “It’s a generator.”
It was a vehicle-mounted generator used in the military. I don’t know how much output it has, but since it was mounted on a 10-ton truck, the amount of power generated must have been significant. Fortunately, the generator vehicle was safely placed in the parking lot of the public health center, surrounded by a fence.
“Actually, this is why I asked to stay here. First of all, the defense has been greatly strengthened, and above all, there is a generator. Considering the width of the road, I think our vehicle will be able to come and go quite freely. Anyway, there is no one else here but us. Even if you make a mess, there is no risk of being attacked by humans. “What should I do with just the beasts and zombies?”
This is a city, and it was even a quarantine zone. This was something I had been determined to do from the moment I entered the city. Our goal was to reinfect zombies with the Cro virus ‘our way’ and allow them to freely roam and live within the city.
So here, there is no reason to worry about what it would be like to be seen by other ‘people’ like we did at the research institute.
“But didn’t you make the decision too hastily? The fact that vehicles can come and go means that a lot of zombies can also flock there. Moreover, when the generator is turned on, the smell is strong and the sound is loud, so all kinds of people will flock to it. “Are you planning on taking the generator out of here and taking it to a safe place?”
Leticia’s point made sense. Of course, she had thought of that too.
“That’s why it’s better. Our goal was to infect more zombies, right? If you make a lot of noise, more zombies will gather, which will make it easier for the infection to spread. The food and water we have is enough to last us for a month. Moreover, this public health center has some pretty good medical analysis facilities.”
Of course, I didn’t check the inside, but there’s no way such a heavy baggage would have been taken during a zombie outbreak. Because moving medicine containers of the same weight can save more people.
Camilla asked, seemingly lost in her thoughts.
“What about you, Cassandra? What do you think about it? “You probably went here and saw it too.”
“Yes, the sooner the better. “I got bitten.”
It was Cassandra’s stubbornness. That she would reveal herself that she had been bitten. I was of the opinion that it was really necessary to say this.
Camilla covered her mouth and Leticia’s eyes were so wide that she thought they were popping out. Without changing the color of her face, Cassandra briefly told us what she had seen and experienced.
However, the work in the small warehouse was glossed over and she only omitted to say, ‘Disinfection has been completed.’ Considering Cassandra, I would have said this without hesitation. She is a bit strange, but that is not important to her.
“I think I already said it, but Cassandra had the ‘procedure’ when she was very young. Maybe that’s why most zombie viruses don’t show much power. “I know this because Cassandra experimented with it herself.”
“… What do you mean, she experimented herself?”
Leticia asked doubtfully.
From Noble mtl dot com
“She weakened various types of Crovirus and injected them directly into her body. She wondered if she might be able to find clues about the antibodies. “They said they gave up because there were too many variants.”
Camilla answered for me. Startled, Leticia pulled her body back.
“Mi, mi, are you crazy?”
“If being crazy means losing the ability to make logical decisions, the answer is no. That’s because I’m saying it based on reasonable grounds. However, the viruses that Cassandra had directly injected into her body were those that weakened her infectiousness. But now that I was bitten by a zombie, the level of contagion is high. So, there is a possibility that Cassandra may become a zombie.”
She was overly calm for someone who said she could become a zombie. Camilla covered her forehead as if she was dizzy.
“Well, then what should I do?”
“That’s why she asked to go into the public health center. It is possible to measure the risk of infection with just a blood analysis tool, microscope, and analysis tool. It would be better to find another hospital, but this is the best we can find. Even if Cassandra turns into a zombie, she wants to make as many sprays as possible before that happens. Or she could teach you how to make it.”
“Can you say that so calmly?”
Leticia asked back in shock. Cassandra didn’t even blink.
“Cassandra will definitely drive out this virus. However, there’s no reason it has to be Cassandra to defeat the Cro virus. “That’s enough.”
He is usually startled and scared, and is good at hiding somewhere, but when it comes to the virus issue, he was braver than anyone else.
It seemed like it wasn’t just because he felt guilty for helping to create the Cro virus and felt like he had to atone. In a way, he seemed to be challenging himself. This means that the problems posed by Cassandra of the past are solved by Cassandra of the present.
“Then you have no choice. I need to clear a path here. Instead, if there are no proper facilities inside, let’s attack a large hospital right away.”
Camilla’s suggestion was a bit bolder. She noticed my gaze and raised her eyebrows.
“Why do you look at me like that? I may not be able to analyze viruses, but I know how to shoot a gun. He said he was confident he would shoot everything until Cassandra finished analyzing her research. What does it mean that her friend is going to die?”
“Chin. Friend… ?”
The doctor who had been so energetic up until now had disappeared and the usual Cassandra, shaking her shoulders, had returned. Camilla laughed.
“Weren’t we friends? “I thought so?”
“Yeah, that’s true, but….”
Leticia, who was listening to the story, intervened.
“Anyway, so. When are you leaving? “I’m fine tonight too.”
“That seems like it might be a bit difficult for Cassandra…” .”
Actually, I just want to collapse and sleep right now. The inside of her thighs still tingle. Still, I have to do what I have to do. I unfolded the map.
“I’ll have to see if the weather is nice tomorrow morning. First, set fire here and here, blow up the car on the side of the road here….”
