How to Live as a Knight After the Ending - Chapter 89
Only Noblemtl
Episode 89. Dyke Goldilocks (2)
Dyke Goldilocken asked Ossian.
What do you want?
It was a sight so shocking that anyone who knew about Dyke would have been left speechless.
Dyke, who is considered a billionaire rather than a millionaire, said he would pay the compensation himself.
“For your information, I never say anything nonsense about this kind of thing. If I say I’ll give it to you, I’ll definitely give it to you.”
Of course, there were only a handful of people in all of Tirna who heard such words from Dyke.
Its value was made all the more apparent by the difficulty of receiving compensation directly from Dyke.
“How about it? Do you want money? If you want, I can give you a bath in banknotes. No, not banknotes, but gold. I can fill the entire room with gold.”
Dyke stimulated Ossian’s desire as if asking him to imagine.
A view of the entire room filled with dazzling gold.
For anyone living in the golden city of Tirna, or anyone in need of money, it would not be strange to see their eyes roll back.
“Or do you want this villa? Since all the incidents are over, this villa has no use anymore. So you can give it to someone. It’s a little damaged, but if you call a laborer, it can be fixed quickly.”
It was not easy to say that they were giving away a huge mansion that would never end no matter how much you ran, just because it was a villa.
Everyone has probably thought at least once about living in a place this big and fancy.
If we were to convert the value of the mansion itself into monetary terms, it would clearly be of an unbelievable scale.
But Ossian was still staring into Dyke’s eyes.
As if trying to figure out why the old man was asking him such questions.
“What do you think?”
Dyke asked, subtly urging Ossian to answer.
His sudden offer to reward Ossian was not merely a gesture of gratitude.
‘The lord wants to check the character of that problem solver.’
What Dyke wanted, his loyal aide Dustin quickly figured out.
‘This is an offer from the head of the Goldilocks family, who owns the gold mine rights and various other concessions. No matter how extraordinary a person is, it would be difficult to maintain reason when hearing that offer.’
When does the true nature of a human being come into full view?
Dyke Goldilocks always gave the same answer.
That’s the moment when a person’s desires are revealed through the mask.
So he stimulated Ossian’s desire.
To see what true feelings lie beneath that blunt and somewhat weary face.
‘Ossian. You can tell just by looking at his attitude and the results this time that he is no ordinary problem solver. But what is he like now?’
To corrupt a man is simple.
If a person has a huge amount of money, he will collapse to the bottom and show everything he has.
In a sense, Dyke was a grumpy old man who tried to peek into people’s inner selves with money.
That’s the path he’s walked so far, and that’s how he lived his life.
“Can I really ask for anything?”
Ossian asked.
Dyke smiled inwardly at the sight.
“Okay. You can ask for anything.”
“then.”
Ossian asked Dyke with his transparent eyes.
“You said that this incident was your own doing. So did you use the ghosts too?”
“… … .”
Dyke answered, puzzled by Ossian’s attitude of suddenly asking about the ghost story when he was asked about compensation.
“I don’t know what it was all of a sudden, but the ghost was something I hadn’t expected. I was secretly surprised when it suddenly appeared.”
“You’re lying.”
“what?”
“Don’t you know? Why the ghost appeared.”
Ossian spoke with confidence.
Dyke stared at Ossian for a moment, then asked.
“Are you curious about that?”
“Yes.”
“So, what that means is that I can think of this question as a reward?”
“It doesn’t matter.”
Dustin and Delon, who were watching from the side, were inwardly shocked.
Are you going to dismiss the reward that Dyke himself offered with just one question?
No one has ever answered like this before.
“… … .”
Dyke was silent for a moment.
His expression seemed somewhat complicated.
Although it seemed that his pride was hurt by his proposal being rejected, it also seemed that he was trying to figure out whether Ossian was doing it on purpose.
Whatever it was, it was bound to be unpleasant.
But Dustin, his loyal follower, felt differently.
‘What is this? The Lord seems to be happy. More than that, it seems like he is feeling some kind of longing. Am I imagining this?’
The expression was so fleeting that it was difficult to see clearly.
Dyke, who had finally calmed down, asked Ossian.
“Wait.”
Dyke got out of bed and went to a nearby drawer.
He took out a glowing blue stone from inside the drawer.
“This is it. A long time ago, while mining, a stone was discovered that gave off a bluish glow. It’s something I was asked to bring.”
The blue stone looked like an uncut gem.
The light flowing softly within it was somehow familiar.
“I called it a moonstone because it seemed to contain the moonlight of the night sky. It was so unique that I had it appraised by several jewelers, but they couldn’t figure out what was making it shine. I kept it because I thought it was something out of the ordinary. It was like a kind of talisman.”
Dyke was still lost in old memories as he looked at the stone that still glowed softly.
It was just a stone with no effect other than emitting a beautiful glow.
But Dyke had a faint affection for this stone.
So, for over a dozen years, it was something I kept close by.
“But, the light has dimmed a bit more than before I collapsed.”
“Is that so?”
“Yes, I’m sure. I’ve seen it every single day for decades. Maybe it’s just lost its energy.”
“That is the identity of the ghost.”
Dustin asked without realizing it at Ossian’s shocking words.
“Is that true?”
“Yeah. Anyone who has witnessed a ghost would know that, right?”
“that…….”
“The energy contained in the stone wandered around the mansion and took the form of a ghost.”
It was hard to believe, but Dustin found it strangely easy to accept Ossian’s words.
There was also a clear causal relationship between the stone’s light diminishing and the ghost appearing as the owner, Dyke, collapsed.
Dyke, who had been listening quietly, opened his mouth.
“So why did you ask me to show you this?”
“I just asked you what you wanted. I want it.”
“This? Why on earth? If what you say is true, then this is nothing more than a shining stone that has lost its power.”
“At least it doesn’t seem that way to me.”
A voice full of deep conviction and firm belief.
Dyke chewed on Ossian’s words and then he couldn’t help but laugh out loud.
“Heh, heh heh. Heh heh heh heh.”
The laughter that started out small soon turned into a shriek.
“Hahahahaha! That, that’s a really nice answer!”
Dyke, who had stopped laughing, asked with a sharp gaze.
“Do you really need any other compensation?”
“No need. I did it because I was commissioned to do it anyway. I’m not interested in any other compensation.”
“You’re serious.”
I’m serious.
Dyke had no choice but to admit it.
Ossian was not in a position to make judgments.
“Your pride is hurt.”
Ossian looked at Dyke, who suddenly brought up the subject, and asked why.
“There is a truth in life that I have come to realize as I grow older. It is that human greed is endless. No matter how noble a nobleman they are, or how much they are looked up to by others as celebrities or actors, if you give them a billion dollars, their attitude will change like a ghost.”
There have been many people who have been rude to Dyke and then fallen flat in front of money.
Dyke is a rich man.
His surname, Goldie, was nothing more than a later purchase.
Although Dyke is now respected and revered, it wasn’t always like that.
Dyke was well aware of the subtle contempt and disdain in such people.
“Those who were so stiff-necked, crumbled helplessly in front of money. What is money? They were even more dazzled when it came to gold. The dazzling gold color. That alone made everyone’s eyes roll.”
By getting them on their knees with money, Dyke felt a kind of confidence.
After all, money is everything in this world.
Even those who pretend not to know are just trash who are obsessed with money.
Even looking at this incident, it was like that.
A nasty fight broke out between family members over who would inherit his inheritance.
“But you’re different. It’s not that you’re pretending not to care, it’s that you genuinely don’t seem interested in money itself.”
“Because there is already enough.”
“Yeah. I heard you got a huge reward for solving a big case this time?”
It might have been surprising to know that, but when I thought about it, it was obvious.
Even Delon had noticed Ossian’s extraordinary abilities through his own information network, so isn’t it strange that Dyke didn’t know?
“If you received that much money, it might not catch your eye. But even if you earn money, it is human nature to want to earn more money. Who would turn down the opportunity to spend the rest of their lives doing nothing?”
But Ossian didn’t do that.
Dyke handed the moonstone to Ossian.
“I lost. You won.”
Dyke, who was proud and hot-tempered, meekly admitted his defeat.
Rather than looking ashamed or angry, his face looked refreshed.
“I don’t know whose son he is, but you chose a very good person.”
“I will accept it gratefully.”
Ossian received the moonstone.
The moment I held it in my hand, I was convinced. This was indeed a stone imbued with the power of the moon.
Although he had defeated the ghost and made its power his own, the power of the moonstone still remained within him.
The harvest was greater than the power of the moonstone that could be obtained through the moonstone.
It was a clue as to how he could regain his other powers.
‘It is highly likely that my power is infused into a similar form, or something else.’
I felt like my blocked mind had been cleared, as if I had been given an answer, even if vaguely, on how to regain my strength.
Of course, there was still the barrier of not knowing where and how these forces were, but it was much better than not knowing anything.
‘I’m glad I accepted this request.’
It was a satisfactory business for Ossian, as he received better compensation than money.
Could it be that such feelings were faintly revealed in the eyes?
Dyke clicked his tongue.
“You’re really satisfied with just that? My pride is really low. I can’t do this. My pride as Dyke Goldilocks can’t allow this to continue, so I’ll take care of you a little more.”
“I don’t need money.”
“I don’t give the money directly. I just give it to them in a different way.”
Dyke chuckled, saying he didn’t know that.
“Tirna is a very evil city, as befitting a city of gold. Everything here costs money. But the worst thing is the taxes that take a certain percentage of your income.”
Tirna’s taxes were quite notorious.
The more money you earn, the higher the proportion of tax you pay on that income.
So the rich people of Tirna trembled at the thought of taxes, and they sought ways to avoid them.
“I bet you don’t want to have most of the profits from this commission taken away in taxes.”
“It’s hard to deny that.”
I don’t have a strong desire for money itself, but that doesn’t mean I don’t need it.
It would be nice to have it. And honestly, I would feel bad if the money I earned was taken away in the name of taxes.
“So I’ll tell you about my favorite tax-reduction method. This is usually something only rich people do, but I think you’ll make a lot of money someday if you look at your skills. Wouldn’t it be good to prepare in advance?”
It wasn’t illegal because it was a drastic reduction in taxes by legitimately utilizing the parts specified in the law.
“I’ll assign you a dedicated tax accountant.”
“Well, I appreciate it since they’re going that far.”
Ossian was not the type of person to turn down a pumpkin that rolled in on its own.
“Still, it’s surprising. I didn’t know you would take care of me this much.”
“Even if I’m called one of the four madmen, I know a lot about it.”
“The Four Madmen?”
“Is this your first time hearing this? It’s a sort of title given to a very outstanding investor in Tirna.”
The name ‘madman’ is a bit of a disturbing name to be attached to a great investor.
Dyke answered, as if he had read Ossian’s mind.
“Originally, you had to be crazy to make this much money. People called me the gold madman because I was crazy about gold.”
It was practically a title used to refer to a strange person, but at least for Dyke it didn’t seem to be such a compliment.
“They are the weirdos of the century who are hard to come by. But I have a feeling that you will be the one to face those madmen.”
