I Became The Crown Prince Of The Mexican Empire - Chapter 127

The Mexican Air Makes You Free (6)
“Don’t do anything crazy!”
The slave hunter betrayed Ensign Lucas’ expectations and aimed his gun.
There was no way a Mexican patrol just a hundred meters away could have missed the sight.
bang!
“Shoot!”
Tata tata tang!
The events that happened in an instant left Ensign Lucas’ mind blank.
Why did it turn out like this?
After several days of tracking, we found the escaped slave group, and before the other platoons.
When I saw the number of the group of 30, I thought they would be caught in two or three days, but the slaves went farther than I thought.
It wasn’t until I discovered the crowd that I realized why.
“There are white guys!”
“Those guys from the liberation organization.”
The ‘Underground Railroad’ was a secret organization, but many people were aware of its existence.
‘I understand now. They were experts. The two white guys in the lead, and the black guy who looked like he was a free black guy. No matter how you look at it, they were definitely members of a liberation organization.’
This was the reason why such a large group of escaped slaves were able to move so far without being detected.
I was on the verge of catching those guys.
If we can catch these pesky liberation organization guys, that’ll be a huge achievement.
I know it’s a border area, but I can see them with my naked eye. I can’t just leave them running around right there. It’s called a border area, but there’s no wall, so I can just go in for a bit and come out.
That decision was a mistake.
You should never have crossed the border in the first place. You were blinded by greed and crossed the line.
The warning from the Mexican scouts who showed up when they were distracted was justified.
It wasn’t civilians, it was the military that had crossed the border and invaded. They even gave warnings in a situation where they could have fired without questioning.
Of course, Lieutenant Lucas wanted to just turn back, but there were people in this world that he couldn’t understand.
“What are you talking about! I’ve been working so hard for over a week, and now you want me to go back?”
He was one of the slave hunters.
“Put the gun down, you fucking idiot!”
“Don’t do anything crazy!”
Jack and Ensign Lucas both screamed in horror at the same time.
bang!
A gunshot rang out, signaling the beginning of a tragedy.
***
The Mexican Border Patrol was a slightly smaller unit of 25 people, than a typical platoon.
25 people vs 40 people.
I would have believed in the superiority of those numbers.
‘No, did you believe it?’
Considering the guy’s actions, which were usually done without thinking, he might have just acted without thinking. Jack thought so. Even his shots missed.
“Shoot!”
At the Mexican officer’s command, the scout’s EC (Eduardo Carabina)-42 opened fire.
Tata tata tang!
Ugh!
Eww!
The slave hunters were in the lead, because they were in the lead and were in pursuit. As a result, most of the people who were shot by the Mexican scouts were slave hunters.
Jack, who barely survived, saw Ensign Lucas, who was supposed to give orders, frozen.
“Damn it! Respond! This is doom and gloom!”
It wasn’t my intention, but I couldn’t stand to get hit once the fight broke out.
Jack shook Ensign Lucas’ shoulder as he watched his men and platoon prepare for a counterattack.
“Hey! Come on!”
While the surviving slave hunters were armed with crude weapons such as old-fashioned muskets and pistols, Ensign Lucas and his men used Springfield Model 1842s.
This gun, modeled after a Mexican breech-loading rifle, was called the worst gun among American soldiers because it broke down so often.
It was a disaster that occurred because they followed the demands of their superiors, who ignored the gap in weapons technology and unconditionally ordered that they produce weapons at a level similar to that of Mexico.
Bang! Ta-tang! Bang!
The platoon members were firing indiscriminately without any order from Ensign Lucas to fire.
Lieutenant Lucas came to his senses at the sound of gunshots ringing out right next to him and only then shouted.
“Retreat! Retreat now!”
“What the hell are you talking about! Retreat! We still have more people!”
Jack rebelled against Ensign Lucas’ orders.
“Shut up! You can’t win with a gun like this!”
The revolver was still reliable, but if you got close enough, you would be riddled with volleys of fire. Now that they were exchanging shots one by one, it was time to retreat.
“Fuck!”
The moment I turned my back, a second shot came.
Tata tata tata tang!
Kyaak!
Hehehehehe!
“already!”
Reloading took just 5 to 7 seconds, and aiming and firing took around 12 seconds.
Jack looked around. The difference in the number of people had already narrowed drastically.
There were some who were hit by the indiscriminate firing on this side, but half of the soldiers on this side were already dead after two volleys.
In that situation, with bullets flying from behind them, they ran like crazy.
“Fortunately, they aren’t chasing us across the border.”
“That must be burdensome for them too.”
There are 23 survivors.
Only three slave hunters, including Jack, survived. Everyone was in despair.
We moved in silence, and camped among the sleepers.
It was soon a city.
Jack was thinking of going back north. It was a shame that his men were dead, but no bullets had even touched him.
That was when I was thinking like that.
“Jack, I’ve been thinking about it.”
As I turned my head and said, “Huh?” at the voice breaking the silence, a creepy sound rang out.
Clank-
It was a revolver pistol.
“You have to die here.”
“What? Sleep, for a moment···.”
bang!
“What the fuck! Jack!”
Bang! Bang!
Sob-
bang!
Lucas and his men survived.
‘I can’t let these bastards get in my way.’

December 1845.
Ensign Lucas, dressed in his uniform, said with an indignant look on his face,
“I admit that I went to the border because I was too eager to complete the mission, but everything else is a lie. They opened fire without warning. Slave hunters? That’s a lie to hide their criminal activities!”
“What if it’s a lie?”
“We heard that 30 slaves had escaped and we were chasing them. At first we thought that they would be slow and we could catch them quickly. But it turned into a fierce chase that lasted a week. When we finally found them, I could see how they had managed to escape so well.”
“What method was it?”
Lieutenant Lucas confidently lied.
“White men were guiding them. The Mexican army blocked their path as if protecting them, and as we were pursuing them, they opened fire without warning.”
“oh my god···.”
The reporter quickly took notes, with a shocked expression on his face.
“Does that mean you were helping black slaves escape from Mexico?”
“I think so.”
Ensign Lucas’s false testimony, along with the testimony of soldiers who said there were white people in the group of escaped slaves, spread throughout the United States.
People in the know knew that what the Mexican government had announced was most likely true, but the truth didn’t matter.
With his muscular physique and chiseled face, Second Lieutenant Lucas, who came from a wealthy family, enlisted in the United States Army and was popular with the public,
It didn’t matter that he had four older brothers and that his father forced him to go to military academy.
By late December, articles containing the interview with Ensign Lucas had set the country on fire.
President James Polk, who was watching the situation, delivered a message to the U.S. Congress.
[Dear fellow citizens,
This is a momentous moment in our nation’s history that should never be taken lightly. I listened to the words of our patriot, Ensign Lucas, and I could hear the echo of truth in his words. Mexico’s actions earlier this year crossed a line that we cannot ignore. By allowing slaves to escape and by defending their crimes, they committed a clear act of extortion.
Now, an even more shocking incident has occurred. Mexico has effectively declared war on our country by killing our soldiers who were trying to reclaim American property. This is not just an attack, it is a clear challenge to our sovereignty and security. This behavior by Mexico is unacceptable, and we must respond decisively.
Our efforts to seek patience and reconciliation have, unfortunately, been met with misunderstanding and contempt by Mexico. We have tried to maintain peace despite their constant threats and aggressive attitudes. But now, by invading our property and shedding the blood of our soldiers, they have forced war on us.
In these circumstances, we have a duty to defend our honor, our rights, and the interests of this country. We have made every effort to seek peace, but war has come into existence because of Mexico’s actions. Now we must defend our country with all our patriotism and duty.
I appeal to the Congress for prompt action. We must recognize the existence of war and provide the means necessary to conduct it effectively, thereby promoting the speedy restoration of peace. We will emerge from this crisis stronger, and our unity and courage will enable us to overcome this difficulty.
In closing, I hope that we all can unite in these difficult times and support and encourage each other for our country. Our patriotism and courage will lead us to victory.
thank you
James K. Polk]
The message was intended to justify war with Mexico and gain support from Congress.
Although few people used the term manifest destiny openly, Americans believed that American settlement was destined to expand throughout North America, and that this belief was clear and certain.
This belief, which to outsiders might seem like nothing more than another expression of imperialism, was an expression of national pride and confidence in the United States, a country that began as a colony, chose a political system called democracy, and grew rapidly, and was rooted in American exceptionalism and romantic nationalism.
Despite opposition to the war from many American intellectuals and Whig members of Congress, the U.S. Congress voted for war on January 13, 1846.
It was a declaration of war.

“You’re responding as if you were waiting for this.”
“It’s a bit odd to say this, but… it’s really absurd.”
Diego’s absurd feelings were understandable. From the perspective of someone who knew the truth, it was nothing more than a political show filled with lies. The problem was that it didn’t end with a political show, but rather, it led to an actual declaration of war.
“He was an expansionist who was even ready to start a war with Britain. How long must he have been waiting for something like this?”
That’s the kind of guy he was originally.
Even before becoming president, he actively advocated for the annexation of Texas. As a presidential candidate, he threatened to go to war if Britain did not give up all of Oregon. After becoming president, he sent troops to the Mexican border to provoke conflict, just like he does now, and inevitably started a war.
‘Looking at them all together, there seems to be no one crazy.’
To Americans in a past life, he may have been a great president who greatly expanded the territory, but to me, living in this era, he is nothing more than a fanatic expansionist.
‘But… is it okay for them to be so slow in their actions when they are so openly showing that they are going to go to war?’
It was late November when things broke out.
It took James Polk nearly a month and a half to hear reports, write scenarios, shape public opinion, and declare war.
On the other hand, we in Mexico moved in unison. On the day the incident occurred, a telegram was delivered from the border town. I thought it was coming, and suggested to my father that a state of semi-war be declared and a draft be ordered.
That was a month and a half ago.
“Your Majesty, the time has come.”
I checked my uniform and boarded the train.
There was no splendid military inauguration ceremony.
Like the soldiers transported across the country, I simply wore my uniform and boarded the train.
A train loaded with soldiers and supplies headed for Texas.
