I Became The Crown Prince Of The Mexican Empire - Chapter 146

Episode 146
Mexican-American War (19)
“It can’t be helped. This damn war is finally over.”
The Pittsburgh man spoke with a bright expression, sipping a beer from an unknown source.
Hearing those words, George, the messenger of the ‘Army of the South’, unconsciously grabbed the man by the collar.
“You, is that true?”
Thud!
The beer glass fell suddenly, and the man shook off the arm that was holding him by the collar.
“What, what is this kid!”
He looked at the messenger’s expression and attire and said, as if he now understood.
“You’re a southerner.”
He chuckled and said.
“I’m sorry, but the war is over. President James Polk has signed the armistice.”
At that taunt, George felt a burning rage in his head. The South had made enormous sacrifices and won a precious first victory, and it had all been in vain.
“Stop talking nonsense!”
puck!
George forgot his duty as a messenger and threw a punch. The problem was what happened next. The man who got punched, Sam, cried out.
“Here! The southerner is hitting people!”
People passing by gathered.
“You Dixie kid, do you think this is your farm?”
Knock knock knock-
The men approached George, cracking his knuckles, and began to beat him.

“Well…, it’s good news that we won, but it’s too late. It’s all over.”
Sam, a Pittsburgh citizen, treated George to a beer and a chat after he had been busy.
“···St. Louis was broken through in one day? Philadelphia couldn’t hold out either?”
“Yes. I heard that the Mexican Empire increased their troops by 100,000 during the truce. 50,000 each in the east and west. They even mobilized their fleet in St. Louis, so they probably couldn’t hold out.”
“···Okay. Thanks for letting me know. The beer was delicious too.”
George had a lot to say, but he swallowed it.
Sam from the North and George from the South. Although they were both Americans, there was an irreconcilable difference in their positions.
“Take care.”
“okay.”
President James Polk was shocked when he received the news of victory from a messenger, but there was no turning back now.
The United States and Mexico have already signed the Treaty of Pittsburgh.
The terms of the treaty were humiliating.

The Mexican diplomat proudly traveled by rail to New York City, escorted by the Mexican Imperial Fleet and the Mexican Imperial Army.
It was a scene that symbolized the complete victory of the Mexican Empire.

Although it prevented an immediate attack on New York and the Great Lakes cities, the disastrous terms of the Treaty of Pittsburgh left a deep scar on the hearts of Americans.
The war is over, but it’s not over.
Northerners argued that if the war had ended earlier, things would not have gotten this way. Before St. Louis and Philadelphia were opened, the amount of the reparation was lower, and there were no conditions for transferring technology or the fleet. In addition, tens of thousands of Northerners died in that short period.
“This war is the South’s fault from beginning to end!”
American journalist Oliver Brown wrote articles like this every day.
[The South should not resist the abolition of slavery, but should take responsibility for the war.]
It was an article that perfectly suited the tastes of northerners.
‘Don’t try to create public opinion that doesn’t exist. Our job is to slightly adjust the direction in which public opinion flows, not to try to go against the flow.’
He didn’t forget what he had heard during his public opinion manipulation training.
Northerners are angry, sad, and desperate right now. All they need to do is find a way to release those explosive emotions.
“That’s right. After all, isn’t it true that the conflict arose because the Southern slave owners were trying to protect their slaves?”
“That’s right. Excluding the initial battle, all the damage was done by the Northerners, but aren’t they the ones who threaten to leave the Federation once the war is over?”
There were over 100 news outlets in the North alone, but less than five of them wrote neutral articles stating, “The North also supported the war.”
Although there was income from corporate advertising in the media during this period, the main source of income was still selling newspapers themselves. Circulation was of the utmost importance, and places that wrote neutral articles were not popular.
When Oliver Brown hit the jackpot by writing an article that blamed the South for the war and that it was the South’s fault that the United States had signed these horrible treaties, other media outlets began to churn out similar articles.
Federalists also issued strong warnings to the South, which was showing signs of secession.
[If you think the federal government will tolerate secession from the South, you are very mistaken.]
Former presidents have also openly hinted that they would call in the military if the South misbehaved.

“Now that the war is over, I guess I’ll stop here.”
Zachary Taylor declared so.
New Orleans, which was recaptured at great cost, was certainly a valuable city, but if it was going to surrender to Mexico anyway, wouldn’t there have been no need to make those sacrifices?
Although Southerners were proud of their only victory over Mexico, Zachary Taylor felt a deep sense of emptiness.
From the Second Battle of Memphis to now, perhaps because he had seen too many deaths in a short period of time, he lost his motivation and, as he had said from the beginning, relinquished command of the ‘Army of the South’ and returned home.
But his return did not mean that the southern army disbanded.
The intense pressure on the South actually strengthened the South’s solidarity. Moreover, the South, having something to say, became even more indignant at the criticism and condemnation of the Northerners.
“You fucking Yankee bastards. What’s there to brag about when you lose every battle?”
The argument that the entire Union suffered because the South did not surrender sooner seemed to the Southerners who had won the Second Battle of New Orleans and recaptured the city to be nothing but the ravings of cowards.
“The war had just begun···.”
The territory occupied by the Mexican Empire was too large to dig trenches and create obstacles along all its fronts. Now it was time to start digging into the gaps in earnest.
“Fuck! Why don’t we just continue the war among ourselves? We’re going to secede from the Federation anyway?”
“No, that’s a bit···.”
There were some who made radical claims to continue the war without regard for the northerners, but that was impossible and there was no reason to do so.
“If we really secede from the Union, there will be no reason to fight Mexico.”
Although Mexico did impose the abolition of slavery, it was the United States government that created and enforced the laws.
Their commander in chief, Jefferson Davis, agreed.
“Now, the ones we have to fight are the northerners.”
Jefferson Davis summed it up this way:
“You have to prepare from now.”
Their war is not over yet.

‘at las.’
I felt a surge of emotion as I read the armistice.
“Congratulations, Your Majesty.”
“Thank you, Diego.”
Diego sent his congratulations.
Diego knew better than anyone how long I had been preparing for war with the United States.
“You’ve had a hard time too.”
“I just did what I had to do.”
While I was in uniform as a commander and was stationed in Trinidad City, Diego was also stationed in uniform. I gave him a temporary rank so that he could act as my aide.
The subjects of the empire rejoiced in another victory. The war lasted only 11 months, but unlike the previous wars, it was a series of fierce battles and the casualties were much greater, but in the end, the Mexican Empire was victorious.
“Long live the Mexican Empire! Long live the House of Iturbide!”
“Viva!”
Tens of thousands of people gathered in Mexico City’s Constitution Square, waiting for the victory ceremony.
Many people received medals.
When I was the last to step onto the stage, my father said:
“You have given me another gift in my later years. Thank you, my son.”
My father said, squeezing my shoulder tightly.
“It’s all thanks to my father’s active support. I am the one who should be grateful.”
I said it with all my heart.
“Haha, that’s why I’m looking forward to your era even more.”
As I spoke, I looked at the face of my father pinning the medal on my chest. When I first saw him, he had the face of a stubborn and stubborn soldier, but now he was very old.
As my mother had hinted when my father collapsed, my father was preparing to abdicate.
“You should live a long life. And take better care of your health.”
“Don’t worry. I’ll live long enough to see my great-grandchildren.”
His reign will be remembered not only for independence and the founding of a new nation, but also for the vast expansion of its territory.
After the conversation, I saluted first and my father accepted it.
“Wow!”
“Long live the Mexican Empire! Long live the House of Iturbide!”
The citizens who cheered every time a medal was awarded, cheered for Mexico City to leave.
Cheers and applause continued for a long time, and the festive atmosphere continued even after the victory ceremony ended.
I also attended the party and ate, drank, and celebrated with the generals who had fought in the war.
“Diego, you’ll rest until tomorrow, so enjoy yourself.”
There were mountains of problems to deal with – the Oregon Territory issue with Britain, the Columbia problem, the issue of veterans, the American Civil War – but I decided to put them on hold for today.
