I Got the Almighty Tongue - Chapter 191

I chose broccoli soup to match the sandwich.
According to the meal plan, vegetables must be served and a certain amount of dairy products must be included in the meal. When I thought about a menu that could clear both of these at the same time, a soup that goes well with sandwiches came to mind.
Soup is harder to make than you might think.
Although the taste usually varies depending on the skill of the chef, soups using dairy products are the least difficult as long as the recipe is followed properly.
Broccoli is easily broken down. Blanch it briefly for 1 minute and then rinse it in cold water.
I melted butter in a heated pan and sautéed thinly sliced potatoes and onions. It already smelled delicious. I added minced garlic and seasoned it with salt and pepper.
After frying the ingredients until golden brown, I poured in water and closed the lid. After all the potatoes were cooked, I ground all the ingredients in a blender. After turning off the heat, I added milk and cream and stirred well.
The starch from the potatoes mixes with the dairy product and the soup begins to thicken. Add the broccoli and simmer over low heat. Season with salt and pepper and grind finely again to finish.
The recipe was designed with complementary nutrients so that it goes well with sandwich dipping.
The light green soup looks delicious and healthy.
I got a passing grade from the taste.
Korean food decided to serve bibimbap.
The ingredients can be prepared in advance, and although it is low in calories, the feeling of fullness after eating it is more satisfying than any other food. And it is also visually beautiful before mixing.
We also confirmed that there were almost no negative reviews from Americans during the study abroad fair, and at Hundred Dishes, customers even ask for their own bowls and make their own food, so students will probably like it too.
Of course, I also had a desire to gradually get my children used to Korean food.
Students who have never tried bibimbap will obviously not mix it, but I don’t intend to force them to do so. If they eat it often, they will find the best way to eat it the most deliciously.
Americans dislike the sticky texture of rice. Indica seems better than japonica. But can this be called bibimbap?
“hmm….”
There are a lot of kids in America who can’t eat spicy food. If you use gochujang as a sauce, it’s definitely a love-hate thing. I think a soy sauce base would be good.
A flavor that kids will love, paired well with soy sauce.
As my thoughts reached this point, butter came to mind. The image of the taste was captured.
Pour olive oil into a pot and fry shiitake mushrooms, burdock, and sliced onions. Then add soy sauce made by Sunhai Farm and pour in the japonica rice. Stir once to mix the ingredients, then add water and cover.
Toppings include bulgogi made with ground beef, shredded and stir-fried carrots, spinach, and zucchini.
The rice is done.
When I opened the lid, the fragrant smell of soy sauce rising with the steam stimulated my appetite. I scooped up a generous amount of butter and mixed it well like making mantecari. The combination of soy sauce and butter was crazy tempting.
Put rice in a bowl and add toppings. Put a generous amount of bulgogi on one side and add vegetables and greens to give it some color, so it looks good.
Place a half-boiled egg in the middle and sprinkle with seasoning sauce made with soy sauce, minced garlic, sesame seeds, green onions, red pepper powder, and pepper.
Since the taste of bibimbap is strong, the soup is made with kelp stock and then clear bean sprout soup is boiled. The recipe is simple and the ingredients are cheap, so it goes well with this menu.
When I break the egg with a spoon, the pink yolk spreads out and seeps between the grains of rice. I can’t stand it.
I just scooped up a little bit of rice and tasted it. The subtle sweetness of the soy sauce and the violent amino acids combined with the butter create a perfect harmony. The luxurious aroma from the shiitake mushrooms and burdock adds to the flavor.
I lightly mixed the seasoning sauce and ate it with the egg yolk, and it was heaven.
“Ah… perfect.”
As I am Korean, I also missed this taste. The generous amount of bulgogi adds to the satisfaction of the meal. When I felt that the seasoning was a bit too strong, I drank bean sprout soup, which reset my taste buds and allowed me to enjoy the bibimbap even more.
When I called Quinton over and had him try it, his eyes widened.
“You said you were going to give up the $3 policy, and now you’re openly making fancy food.
Price aside, this was the best menu item so far.
Korean food is so delicious. The presentation is great and the exotic dishes are intriguing. It’s a taste that makes you want to bow to the east where Korea is.”
Soy sauce and butter are a devilish combination. It appeals to all ages, genders, regions, and races.
“This menu requires a lot of work, but the ingredients aren’t that special. Since labor costs are involved anyway, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to use them wisely.
Since it can be made in advance, it is also suitable for serving as a school meal as long as you prepare the rice on time.”
“We’re almost done recruiting. Should we start training them?”
“Of course. It’s not over just because I give you the recipe. It takes time to become proficient. Of course, I’ve simplified it as much as possible, so it should take a week.”
Most of the people he recruited were retirees with kitchen experience. If we just pick one person per school to be in charge, we can run it without any problems.
“That’s good. Things seem to be getting bigger, but they’re going to be big anyway, so it doesn’t matter when they happen. But I have one question.”
“Go ahead.”
“Segretto is famous for its excellent pasta, so why is it not on the cafeteria menu?”
Pasta is one of the most popular school meal options, so it’s no wonder he’s curious.
“It’s not that I’m missing out. It’s just that I know pasta so well that it’s hard for me to bet. It’s scary to think that pasta that was cooked in bulk and burst into pieces is being sold with my name on it.”
There are menus that just won’t work no matter how you make them.
“But Americans love tomato sauce. It’s good to have at least one in your lineup.”
“I’m thinking of making lasagna for the last menu anyway.
“It’s perfect for a quick meal because you can cook it in bulk in the oven, and you don’t have to worry about the noodles getting soggy. It’s a perfect menu, except for one minor issue.”
He seemed to have guessed the situation by looking at my expression.
“That’s the price.”
“Lasagna will cost a lot of money, but we’ll try our best to make it work.
Now it’s time to finalize the menu. We’re going to rotate it on a weekly basis, like Hundred Dishes.”
After about two weeks of hard work, we were finally able to finalize all the menu items for the school meals.
Although there are some regrettable aspects due to the inevitable compromises, it is certain that the quality of the meals is unmatched anywhere in the United States.

Once the menu was finalized, Quinton started creating the website.
It was a stylish webpage that used a lot of green, indicating that it was eco-friendly.
The layout is luxurious and exudes a premium feel, with photos taken by the photographer in a professional studio, along with information on the origin of the ingredients and the process of making the meal.

Quinton’s showtime has begun.
In addition to his website, he produced and distributed luxurious pamphlets for those who preferred analog, and also began advertising through radio and magazines.
There are about 3,000 schools in New York, including private schools.
Considering that all elementary, middle, and high schools in Seoul add up to less than 1,500, this is an enormous number.
Quinton decided that individual sales were not very meaningful because of this scale, so he planned a large-scale tasting event.
We sent letters to every principal and PTA (Parent-Teacher Association) in New York City inviting them, and we also leaked the news to the media.
Invitations were also sent to local politicians, but the response was lukewarm.
It wasn’t a charity party, so there was no way they would receive any donations, and it was only natural that they wouldn’t be interested in an event hosted by a catering company.
“I want to make a big splash, but I don’t think it’s very destructive. I don’t think people will be interested if parents or principals come to the tasting event.”
Quinton smacks his lips as if he feels regret.
“Haha. It would be helpful if there were any famous singers among the parents.”
How many of the principals and parents who received the invitation will attend the event? Even if only 5% show up, it would be a success.
“Couldn’t we invite an actor or singer who often comes to Segreto?”
Quinton says, avoiding my eyes as if embarrassed.
“As a restaurant owner, I don’t want to do anything that would make my customers uncomfortable.”
Even if I were a guest, I wouldn’t welcome such a request.
“I can’t help it. It’s a shame, but I think this will get the job done.”
“That doesn’t mean there’s no one to call.”
“Huh? You just said no….”
“It may be difficult for the guests, but it doesn’t matter for the staff.”
I handed him my business card.
[The First lady of the United States, Michelle Obama]
“Oh, Jesus! Are you friends with the First Lady?”
His reaction is intense, as if he was very surprised.
“I’ve only met her a couple of times, but she sends me a card every Christmas from the First Lady’s office. I’m sure she’s in a pretty tight spot, so she won’t turn it down.”
Even though I had never contacted her separately, I received a card every Christmas in her name. Every time I received a card from her, I felt a sense of obligation to return the favor someday.
“If I do this well, I might be on CNN News.”
His voice gets louder as he gets excited.
“That’s right. There’s no need to be picky about the means to spread good influence. It doesn’t harm others. Let’s use all the cards we can.”
I sent her a pamphlet and an invitation to the event through the First Lady’s office, and soon after, I heard from her that she would attend the event.

Quinton scouts the venue before planning the event. He first eliminates luxury hotels and convention centers from the list of candidates.
‘It has to be school.’
Natural and friendly pictures are important.
Quinton approached several public schools for help, but was turned down.
In New York, the general public can rent school facilities for a reasonable fee.
But the place he was trying to rent was a cafeteria, and it was a place with safety hazards.
There was no school willing to take on the trouble, and just when I was starting to think that I should start looking for hotels or restaurants instead of schools, I got a call from an unexpected place.
The proposal came to meet at a public school in East Harlem, a notorious area for crime.
I rushed over to the meeting and saw a familiar face.
“Peter!”
Peter, the manager of the baguette factory, smiles awkwardly and offers to shake hands.
Next to him, a woman with a prickly expression was looking at Quinton with her arms crossed as if she didn’t like him.
“This is Mrs. Catherine, the principal. She has been working here for over 30 years.”
At Peter’s introduction, Quentin smiles and offers to shake hands.
“Nice to meet you. My name is Quinton Smith.”
“I just came out to see it because Peter said the bread was so delicious. You said there was a tasting event or something here, right? Can we try it too?”
Harper High School was ranked near the bottom of the nation in every indicator.
The graduation rate was 59%, and the college enrollment rate of students did not exceed 20%. Because there were many children from extremely poor families, it was one of the schools that the food service provider did not pay much attention to.
She tried changing suppliers and complaining, but the food didn’t improve. In the end, Catherine decided to listen to her parent, Peter, in desperation.
“Of course. Would you mind if I check out the cafeteria and kitchen for a moment?”
Catherine nods.
Although it was quite old, it seemed like it would be suitable for holding an event. The cafeteria was also large enough to accommodate over 300 people.
“How many people are attending the event?”
“I’m thinking anywhere from 100 to 200 people. Maybe even less than 50.”
Will busy teachers and parents really take the time for this golden weekend?
Although it is an event that you planned, if you think about it objectively, this is probably the limit.
“I guess that won’t be a problem.”
Catherine nods.
But a few days later, she received a phone call.
“Who are you?”
-Secret Service (United States Secret Service *Department that protects the President and his family).
“yes?”
She had no idea what was going on at her school.
