I Made a Game Featuring Constellations - Chapter 15
Saint Kate
-Bweeeeng!
-Bring our brother Orpheus back to life!
-Oh… Brother!!
-Woo woo, Abung is crying because he’s sad
I watched the community’s reactions after the players cleared the story.
It seemed my intention had worked, as the players empathized with Orpheus despite him being a villain character.
The Constellation [Engineer of Rage], true name Ian Carlyle.
In reality, he had been childhood friends with Saint Cartesia when she was Kate.
However, due to conflicts between their families, they grew apart, and Kate lost her life because of the engineer’s mistake.
Driven by the single-minded desire to save Kate, the engineer delved into magitech and reached transcendence, even attaining divinity.
The execution event and the rampaging engineer’s father, Orpheus’s misdeeds, were fictional elements I added to make the story more dramatic.
[The Sacrifice that Overcame Indolence] Unlike the previous time, there was no need to faithfully recreate actual history, so I added some variations.
Thanks to this, players were able to immerse themselves in the tragic narrative of Orpheus.
Of course, there were a few who did not.
Some criticized the story, perhaps because they didn’t like it.
– But isn’t he ultimately a villain who killed countless people? He deserved to die, right?
– This could instill the wrong idea that you can do anything for the one you love.
– Isn’t this glorifying evil deeds as long as Kate is saved, regardless of the process?
Perhaps because Orpheus was set up as a villain to shock, many disliked him for his evil deeds.
It couldn’t be denied.
In fact, Orpheus was a villain who didn’t care how many others he sacrificed for Kate.
Nevertheless, there was a reason I set the constellation [The Magician Engulfed in Rage] as the villain in this Orpheus story.
It was because a villain was more effective than a good person in delivering shock through twists and emotions.
Just as a bad guy sacrificing once at the end is more memorable than a good guy sacrificing hundreds of times, it was better to have the villain character, who had been in conflict throughout the story, complete the sacrifice in the final showdown.
In fact, players had a grudge against Orpheus throughout the first act’s story because they were tormented by him, so his narrative was more effective.
“Glorifying villains and evil deeds…”
I hadn’t thought about that.
Given the nature of the story, it was tricky to handle this part.
You can’t satisfy all players.
Some will feel uncomfortable with a villain taking the main narrative.
That’s only natural.
This is the criticism I must endure and accept for portraying Orpheus as a villain.
But through this criticism, my next story can take a better path.
– It’s not even that sad, why the fuss?
– I found it boring. Why do I have to watch the past of a bad guy?
– Am I playing a game or watching a video?
– Is it [Orpheus Archive] instead of [Akashic Archive]?
There were also those who found the villain-centered narrative, rather than the protagonist-centered one, tedious.
I could somewhat empathize with their feelings.
The main character that players immerse themselves in is the game’s protagonist, the prospective director.
But in this first act, Orpheus had more weight than the prospective director.
Especially during the process of entering the mental world or the forced defeat events in the boss battle, some seemed to question whether they were playing a game or watching a video.
“I overlooked this part.”
I wrote down notes about the protagonist’s weight in my notebook.
Players should be able to utilize the characters they selected and the essences of the abyss they collected to feel proper satisfaction, but it was somewhat lacking in that aspect.
It was a problem caused by focusing too much on her, the magic engineer.
Additionally, the chaotic background explanations and story in the early part.
I summarized the unpleasant experiences players talked about, such as the appearance of proper nouns that made it difficult for players to understand.
“The next story will be different.”
Today’s problems will not be repeated tomorrow.
Because the story of my game will evolve every moment.
The very next day
I released a new pickup character.
The number of concurrent users surpassed 300,000, and the sales graph broke through the peak.
I couldn’t stop the laughter that kept coming out.
[The storyteller in the dream waves his short arms in joy.]
“If there’s any food you want to eat, just let me know. I’ll bring it to you right away.”
I built a shrine for the Constellation near the academy.
Although I couldn’t build it big due to the Constellation’s order to keep it simple, it was enough to deliver a feast to the Constellation with the money from the game’s sales.
[Saint Kate]
Even though the pickup for [Knight Ren] wasn’t over, I created a new pickup character to keep my promise to the Magician and to strongly imprint her on the players.
In my heart, I wanted to bring out Orpheus, the protagonist of the narrative, but it was a bit awkward to release a character that had already died and disappeared, and it was too precious to release a villain so soon.
“I’ll use this one as a cheat key later.”
I planned to use it as a suppression tool if I caused operational problems and public sentiment burned.
-This is a character to use until the server shuts down…
-Sorry in advance, but only one draw…
-I wanted to get Ren, but something strange came out. Saint? Is this good?
The players were in a festive mood with the newly appeared [Saint Kate] character.
I guess I’ve kept my promise.
The Magician wanted the continent to recognize Saint Kate, who was his lover in reality.
Even if he intended to resurrect her through the recognition engraved on the continent, the purpose of that recognition was certainly achieved.
“Is this enough to take off?”
“Continue the ostinato to select the saintess!”
“I’ve only done it 10 times, but it’s too hard… How did Orpheus do it?”
Reset Marathon, abbreviated as Reset Mara
It refers to the act of repeating until you get the desired character.
In this world, there were only primitive games at the early stage level, let alone character drawing games, so such a concept did not exist yet.
However, at some point, the method of deleting and creating a new account until the desired character appeared became widespread.
Moreover, the name was also derived from the epic of Orpheus and was called [Ostinato].
The players’ ostinato, repeating regression several times until they get the desired beloved character.
I wanted to block it all because it was all money, but blocking the players’ ostinato could mean that the game company directly denies the epic of Orpheus.
Ruining the carefully crafted narrative and the thrill.
It’s something I can never do.
[The storyteller in the dream tilts his head and asks if I can’t just overlook that much]
After contemplating for a long time, the constellation whispered to me.
I decided to put their actions on hold for now.
For now, I decided to overlook those who reset under their own name.
“Now, a blonde tanned dark elf stroking the saintess’s buttocks alone?”
“Get lost from Apelaios”
“Is there an er*tic painting of that Orpheus kid?”
“Orpheus is a man”
ㄴㄴI know
ㄴㄴㄴ?
– Is the chemistry between Orpheus and the director real? Phewㅠㅠㅠㅠ
– Did you see the affection in the director’s eyes when he glared at Orpheus? ㅠㅠ So sad
“…….”
As there are many abnormal s*xual desires in the community beyond imagination, many people took it differently than intended, but still, many shed tears at the narrative of the saint and Orpheus.
Not only among young men and women but also among older couples, playing Ian and Kate has become a trend, so it can be said that the game’s narrative on Earth has been well received.
“I hope the magitech engineer does well too.”
The reason the magitech engineer cooperated in making my game was to save Kate.
Now the entire continent is shedding tears over his and Kate’s love story, and if it fails in reality, it cannot be more tragic.
I hoped this story would not just end as a dream.
The tragic love that could not be achieved in the game, I wished for it to end happily in reality.
* * *
In a secluded corner of the divine realm
[Hello? What’s your name?]
[Let’s play again like today next time]
[You look like a frog, so cute]
[I am a saint, a saint who protects people and leads them on the right path]
[I’m sorry, Ian]
[Goodbye… my frog prince]
The divinity, born from the cognition of countless beings, gathered.
The dead, whose souls had perished and could never be revived unless time itself was reversed.
When the faith that constituted the dead became one, the belief manifested into reality.
Boom!
From within, a woman of divine birth opened her eyes.
