I Will Stage A Coup D’état - Chapter 147
Only Noblemtl
EP.147 Empire of Ghosts (1)
The Federal Republic of West Germany attracted the aggro of the Soviet Union as soon as it was born.
Germany’s first chancellor, Konrad Adenauer, declared that he could not accept the Allied border along the Oder River.
“Only we Germans can decide the fate of our homeland. Germany’s borders cannot retreat even one centimeter from 1937.”
Adenauer’s hard-line stance provoked a violent reaction from Moscow.
“Don’t talk nonsense when you’re a defeated country.”
Molotov condemned Germany in strong terms.
Poland was also foaming at the mouth.
“This is the rightful territory we earned as a result of the crimes of the Nazis who killed 20% of our people!”
But Adenauer didn’t even laugh.
Given the displaced votes of over 10 million people, there could be no compromise on this issue.
Of course, the Soviet Union and Poland were not the only enemies Germany had to deal with.
Adenauer took advantage of the chaos at the end of the war and the beginning of the military administration to informally protest to the countries responsible for the plundering of vast amounts of technology, equipment, and talent.
The reason they could not protest openly was because of Germany’s position as an aggressor nation.
In response to Adenauer’s protest, the UK and the US responded,
“Oh, they came voluntarily. What can we do with them immigrating? If they brought equipment, we only checked their suitability. If you want, we can return it to you.”
At least he responded in a gentlemanly manner.
But Korea was not that gentlemanly.
The explanation was also meaningless.
“Yes? Those people are in Korea? If they are, they are. The equipment? Is it true that it was developed in Germany? Is that right? I don’t know. It must be a coincidence.”
Adenauer was furious at Korea’s shameless attitude.
These bastards are thieves.
Yet Germany was unable to express its anger toward Korea.
The opponent was a great power that was effectively trying to rise to third place in the world.
If Korea and Berlin were to side, only Berlin would suffer.
Adenauer decided to wait for the next opportunity.
Although Korea is currently on the rise, there will come a day when it will start to decline.
That day, I will fully repay you for today’s sins.
However, Adenauer soon realized that domestic problems were more pressing than foreign ones.
I’m not here to talk about trivial issues like the economy.
In the heart of Germany, which was barely rising from the ruins, the Nazis were trying to make a comeback.
“National Socialist Fatherland Party? These guys, their members are Nazis themselves.”
Adenauer was horrified by the resurgence of the Nazis.
Federal Attorney General Thomas Deller called for a strong response to the issue.
“If we leave these guys alone, they’ll start calling for the Fourth Reich and do crazy things again.”
Adenauer agreed with Deller’s words, but he had no immediate solution.
If it had been the original, the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution, created by the Allied High Commissioner, would have caught the Nazis, but because West Germany was so hastily established, such an agency did not yet exist.
Catching Nazis had to be done purely by force of law.
Thomas Deller weighed in cautiously.
“If the political party is dissolved.”
Federal Interior Minister Gustav Heinemann expressed his opposition.
“That is unconstitutional.”
Adenauer was troubled.
“First, start monitoring them from the Ministry of the Interior. If we know what they’re up to, wouldn’t it be possible to suppress them later?”
“All right.”
This is how the German government began to monitor the National Socialist Fatherland Party.
When Germany actually started to monitor the Nazis in this way, it felt strange.
“I’ve heard those guys talking so many times.”
They say one nation, one leader, that’s the monopoly of fascism, so I said yes.
“Efficient governance led by a strong leader! Economic growth proceeding in an orderly manner under him! Order and stability will soon guarantee prosperity! Substance over form! We must pursue a democracy that is real rather than a shell!”
Substance over form.
In that damned slogan, the German police knew the answer.
“What he’s saying is what Koreans are saying.”
Surprisingly, the German Nazis were strongly supporting Lee Seong-jun’s Korean-style democracy.
“If you want to see the future of Germany led by the National Socialist Fatherland Party, turn your head and look at Korea. There you will see the pinnacle of prosperity that a well-ordered society can achieve.”
The Nazis openly mentioned Korea as their enemy.
Shouldn’t we talk indirectly like the French or British fascists?
That wasn’t the case at all.
The Nazis devoured the country once.
I ate it all, including the soup, so refreshing.
What good is pride for Nazis who have fallen to that extent?
This is what the Nazis wanted to say.
“We will also change to the path that Lee Seong-jun sees, so please support us. In fact, Lee Seong-jun and we are both fascists, so wouldn’t we be the best at imitating him?”
The argument was surprisingly convincing.
“Remer! Remer! The only voice that can save the fatherland!”
The crowd gathered in the street cheered General Remer.
German police were perplexed when they saw so many people applauding the man who suppressed the Valkyrie coup and extended Hitler’s life.
I wondered if this was really the Germany they lived in.
But this was the harsh reality.
Less than a month after their official founding, the Nazis had expanded their influence to the point where they were holding street demonstrations across the country.
“Make Germany great again!”
“The only way to save Germany from disorder! Support the Socialist Fatherland Party!”
It was actually a gathering of former Nazi party members and supporters with Nazi nostalgia, but it was still a huge achievement.
Adenauer was perplexed by this situation.
Even so, Eastern Europe was already ridiculing Germany after seeing the rise of the Nazis.
“Look at that. I thought the Third Reich was defeated last night, but there are places where Nazi ghosts are still walking around in broad daylight.”
“It was the same in Weimar. Back then, weren’t the ghosts called Junkers ruling Germany?”
“Just wait a minute. They’ll change their appearance to the Fourth Reich and start rearming.”
Adenauer consulted the Allied High Commissioners to resolve the situation.
Major General Lee Je-dong, who served as the Korean High Commissioner for Advancement, offered Adenauer the following advice:
“Your Majesty. Is it really necessary to go around and catch the enemy right in front of you? Sometimes, a simple solution may be the answer.”
“What does that mean?”
“In Korea, those kinds of traitors, no, those kinds of rebels, are dealt with by tying them up and turning them into dust.”
That’s possible because it’s Korea.
Adenauer wanted to say that, but honestly, there was no good way to do it.
If we continued to do nothing, the world would be taken over by the Nazis.
“Well, I would like to hear some tips.”
Shortly afterwards, the German Federal Police made emergency arrests of several people around Remer.
“Huh? What crime did we commit?”
“Shut up, you red bastards.”
German police linked them to the communist problem, linking them to the left wing of the Nazi Party that followed Strasserism.
“You guys are communist followers, right?”
In fact, the Socialist Fatherland Party had a charter that advocated reconciliation and solidarity with the Soviet Union.
The German police took advantage of this.
Frankly, it was something that a democratic government should not have done, but the Nazis were such a dangerous bunch that even Adenauer had no choice.
It would be better to tarnish one’s own reputation than to tolerate the Nazis and let Germany sink into World War III.
“Arrest them all.”
Adenauer singled out the Socialist Fatherland Party as a hotbed of the fifth column.
“What? Were the Fatherland Party guys pseudo-communists who followed the Soviet Union?”
“Not followers of Korean-style democracy?”
People quickly turned their backs on the Socialist Fatherland Party as if they had been doused with ice water at the mention of the Soviet Union.
Otto Ernst Remer expressed his resentment at this red stampede.
“If they call me a Nazi, I’ll admit it. But what do you mean I’m a communist? I was a soldier who fought against communists!”
Of course, Remer’s protest did not make a single line in the newspapers.
This too was the work of the Adenauer government.
The Adenauer government tried out the technology to catch people alive and found that it worked better than expected.
The idea of democracy is certainly right, but there is no need to extend an umbrella to enemies who threaten democracy.
“No mercy for communists and Nazis.”
Under this new slogan, the Adenauer government established the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution.
The first thing the Guardian Agency did after it was established was to issue an order to disband the Socialist Fatherland Party.
“No! Disbanding a political party is a bit much!”
Despite strong protests from party leader Remer, the German government did not even bat an eyelid.
“The only good Nazi is a dead Nazi. So go down to the bottom of society and die quietly.”
That’s how the Socialist Fatherland Party was destroyed.
But if you give up here, you are not a Nazi.
“You can just rebuild it.”
The Socialist Fatherland Party established the Socialist Imperial Unity Party with Fritz Dorris as its leader.
The party’s ideology and slogans were not changed at all.
“Yeah, you can just blow it again.”
The Constitutional Protection Agency struck again.
In Germany, the Nazis died and came back to life again and again.
The German government thought this would solve the problem, but things were not so easily resolved.
“It’s a bit disappointing that the good ideology is being buried because of the origins of those guys. In fact, if we want Germany to rise up, the best way is to practice Korean-style democracy.”
After the war, the Junkers, who had been keeping their mouths shut, became interested in Lee Seong-jun’s style of democracy.
The scent of militarism and totalitarianism hidden beneath the mask of democracy, and a dictatorship that is easy for Germans to understand.
The Junkers immediately founded a political party to replace the Nazis.
Field Marshal Erich von Manstein, the godfather of the Junkers, was the founder of the party and gave it its name.
“German Restoration Party.”
Adenauer just wanted to faint.
That damn Lee Seong-jun is a ghost.
It seemed that Germany was destined to not be able to escape the ghost of Lee Seong-jun until it self-destructed in World War III.
