I Will Stage A Coup D’état - Chapter 22

EP.22 12. 8 Military Coup (10)
The Army leadership and each unit command thought.
It would be worth a try if only the 12th and 33rd Infantry Divisions could arrive in Pyongyang.
As soon as day breaks, the coup forces will fall.
The problem was that I had no idea what was going on beneath my feet.
10 p.m., part of the Capital Defense Command.
“Is everyone ready?”
The young officers who followed Lee Seong-jun exchanged glances.
Anyway, the coup forces have become the mainstream.
All we have to do is join the revolution led by our beloved General Lee Seong-jun, so why hesitate?
They headed to the command center conference room with calm faces.
“What’s going on?”
When the military police asked what was going on,
“Subdue him.”
They rushed in, slapped him in the face, kicked him in the shins, and snatched his gun.
The Army leadership was busy with their meetings, completely oblivious to the commotion outside.
“Once the decision is made to appoint an acting prime minister, Minister of Finance Jeong should be transferred to the headquarters.”
“Let’s leave it at that. What happened to the 3rd Army Command?”
“General Kang Ki-jung personally went to the scene. That’s true.”
“Is there any chance that General Kang is Lee Seong-jun’s sponsor?”
“It’s clean on that side. There’s no school ties, regional ties, or relatives.”
“Just in case, General Kang Ki-jung’s side should be continuously monitored by the Security Command.”
“Let’s do that.”
The moment Security Commander Lee Jeong-ju nodded, a group of people burst through the conference room door.
There were no privates, they were all young officers.
“These kids?”
When the Director of Operations, Lieutenant General Ha Jung-yeon, drew his gun, the officers aimed their rifles.
The guns aimed at the officers were extremely threatening.
“General, put that gun down.”
A young officer growled like a beast.
“General Ha. Put that gun down. You guys, put your guns down too! Where are the mere officers pointing guns at their superiors!”
Captain Park Seong-ryeol shouted, but the officers pretended not to hear.
“From now on, we will be taking care of the generals. Hey, contact the training unit.”
The generals felt speechless at those words.
What use is the authority of a superior to those rebels?
High-ranking generals were merely trophies for them to display their achievements, and were not objects of any kind of reverence.
The officers immediately removed the generals’ belts and snatched their pistols.
“What, what is it?”
Major General Oh Jung-gu, the Army Military Police Commander, who was returning from the bathroom late, was shocked to see officers with guns disarming generals.
“Hey, General Oh, disarm me too.”
Although Oh Joong-gu resisted, the officers took the general’s belt away without a care.
“Hey, you guys! I’m the Military Police Commander of the Korean Empire Army! I’m not in a position to be insulted by you guys!”
The young officers treated Oh Joong-gu’s shouting as the barking of a dog.
Park Sung-ryeol nodded to Oh Jung-goo.
It meant that such words did not make sense to these guys.
Only then did Oh Joong-goo shut his mouth.
The officers detained the generals and broadcasted over the unit’s communication network.
“Inform all units. There was a misunderstanding between our forces, but it has now been ‘resolved’. Therefore, all emergency situations are over as of this time. All units are to drop their guard and return to their units.”
All the soldiers were confused by the sudden instructions.
“What the heck? What the hell is going on?”
“Could it be that the generals have surrendered to the rebels?”
“Those proud gentlemen? What nonsense are they talking about.”
The soldiers were at a loss as to what to do with the broadcast that came without any formal orders.
“Captain. What’s going on here?”
“I don’t know either.”
Aside from the confusion among the soldiers, the Army leadership was in shambles.
Now, there were only two effective suppression forces left.
All that was there was the 3rd Field Army Commander Kang Ki-jeong, who was rushing from the northwest of the capital, and Lieutenant General Oh Gwang-se, who was holding out at the Guards Division Headquarters.
However, both time and information were not enough to prevent the rebels from taking over Pyongyang with their own capabilities.
10:15 p.m.
Within three hours of their rebellion, the coup forces had virtually secured victory.
*
‘The remaining opponents are Oh Kwang-se and Kang Ki-jeong.’
Oh Gwang-se will collapse on his own soon, and Kang Gi-jeong will not be able to reach Pyongyang until the situation is over.
The game is over.
All the officers bowed to me at once.
“Congratulations, General.”
“It’s all thanks to the help of the owners. You did well. You did very well.”
I patted them on the shoulder and congratulated them on their victory.
“General, all that remains now is a justification.”
“Yes, justification.”
In fact, we staged a coup without any justification.
It was a similar mindset to the Japanese Imperial Path of the 2.26 incident, where the outcome was decided and then the justification was manipulated.
Even if you say I’m crazy, there’s nothing I can do.
Originally, a coup d’état was something done by a crazy person.
That doesn’t mean we staged a coup without thinking.
There was a ‘reason’ for announcing it to the public.
The reason was this.
“Well, I think the most appropriate reason to give is, as I originally thought, ‘I subjugated the traitors who were disturbing His Majesty the Emperor’s grace and leading the country to ruin.’”
Frankly, it was nonsense that even people in the Middle Ages would not believe.
If the emperor ruled the empire, that would be another matter, but that wasn’t the case.
The Emperor of the Korean Empire was a machine that sat on a chair and stamped his seal.
But the appearance of the cause was important.
He prevented the country’s highest official from being misled and led astray by people like Rasputin.
It was an intuitive and good excuse to make uneducated farmers understand.
“I think it would be a good idea for me to push forward like that.”
We will support the fabricated evidence of what specifically the corrupt officials did.
Anyway, there was one hurdle to overcome in order to make such a claim.
It was an ‘audience’.
“Anyway, if we’re going to push forward with this excuse, we need to see His Majesty. How’s the situation at the palace?”
“I sent a liaison officer to inform the Imperial Household of the legitimacy of the ‘revolution’.”
“What was the reaction of the Imperial Household?”
“The Minister of the Interior was displeased.”
That guy is stupid.
If you can’t control your expression in front of the rebels who staged a coup with guns and swords, how are you going to protect your livelihood?
I should change it when I get the chance.
“Well, there’s no need to delay. Let’s go to the palace. If we all rush in, it will look bad and His Majesty will be uncomfortable, so Colonel Kim, let’s go together.”
Kim Seong-ju looked moved when he heard those words.
Allowing someone to accompany you in a place like this means giving them that much status.
Kim Seong-ju bent his back at a right angle.
However, there was no reason why Kim Seong-ju could not be treated well.
You commanded the plainclothes unit and took on the difficult task of arresting people, so you deserve to do this much.
We rode in Captain Kim Jeong-gil’s car and headed to the palace.
The direction to the palace was also a mess, but the road was soon cleared up once the military police and prison guards cleared it up.
The palace was allegedly built on top of the ancient Goguryeo capital, Chang’an, but no one knew for sure if this was true.
Anyway, the palace, which resembled the Forbidden City, occupied a space of 700m in length and width, and was the second largest palace in the Orient after the Forbidden City.
After passing through the heavy palace gate, he stopped by the Imperial Household Department and requested an audience.
An official from the Imperial Household Department walked briskly to Seongdeokjeon, where the Emperor resided, to process our request.
There was a telephone in the palace, but no one dared to think of calling the ‘exalted monarch’, so people had to go back and forth in person.
I waited for about 20 minutes.
An official from the Imperial Household came and said.
“His Majesty does not wish to see me.”
Why is this stamping machine so annoying?
I thought for a moment.
Well, there must have been a reason for it to be annoying.
But, it’s not my business.
The important thing is that this stamping machine has to stamp the cause that I created.
Okay, I see.
“I will go back and ask His Majesty.”
“yes?”
The monarch refused, but the subject is making another request?
I felt such an amazing gaze.
But, that’s okay with me.
“I would like to ask you that the current situation is extremely urgent.”
“Ha, but, Your Majesty has already given the order.”
“I ask. It is a matter of the safety of the empire.”
“General.”
“I’ll say it one last time. Ask.”
As I raised my voice, Kim Seong-ju, who was next to me, glared at the Imperial Household Ministry official with a fierce expression.
“Oh, I understand.”
The palace officials rushed to Seonhwajeon in a hurry.
Meanwhile, a call came from outside.
“Oh Gwang-se has been caught.”
“The situation is over.”
If the Emperor finds out about this, he won’t be so stubborn.
I winked and leaked this fact to the Imperial Household Department.
After a while, an official from the Imperial Household came and spoke politely.
“His Majesty would like to have an audience.”
“I will guide you.”
I followed the palace officials leisurely.
Although I talked about punishing traitors in words, in reality I was the one who staged a coup and pressured the emperor, and I was the real traitor.
But what can the emperor do now?
Not having the power to punish the traitors.
Just as the royal family of Goryeo bowed their heads before the military regime of the Choi clan, the royal family of Daehan should also bow their heads before Lee Seong-jun.
From now on, I, Lee Seong-jun, am the law of Korea.
