82 – It was rotten and exposed, and it wouldn’t be strange if it collapsed at any moment.
“heheheheh, what’s with the unfamiliar ceiling? It’s the room Noah showed me yesterday, so it felt strange…”
I felt my pupils trembling and swallowed my dry saliva.
“Could it be…?”
The reason my words ended in a question mark was because the ceiling I had seen before going to sleep was different in color and appearance. Not only that, but even the texture of the blanket covering me was different.
“Calm down.”
Isn’t there a saying that even if you’re caught in a tiger’s den, if you keep your wits about you, you can marry a true tiger?
After barely calming my confused mind, I rolled my eyes around.
The gray ceiling I had seen before falling asleep had suddenly turned into a deep brown wooden ceiling, and the single bed had been replaced with a queen-size bed.
The pure white blanket was as soft as silk, yet thick, and the sensation of it brushing against my skin was very pleasant.
I moved my head slightly to observe the changed space more clearly.
“Oh…!”
The room where I had fallen asleep originally was a room about the size of a one-room apartment. Compared to such a room, this place was incredibly spacious, to the point where it was almost embarrassing. It was the size of an apartment with about three rooms (38 pyeong).
There was a soft carpet on the floor, and two large terraces were situated at each end of one wall. Between the terraces, there were large windows, making the room bright without the need for additional lighting.
With one of the terraces slightly open, a gentle breeze rustled the white curtains.
In the center of the room, there was a sofa and a table, and on the wall, there were obviously expensive drawers and bookshelves. A luxurious wooden desk was also arranged in one area.

The room was divided into three separate areas. Each area had a different carpet, giving the impression of separate spaces.
“What is this expensive-looking room? Could it be that I’ve possessed someone else’s body?”
I hurriedly grabbed my hair and checked the color. A shoulder-length, snowy white hair came into view. Then, I checked the back of my hand. The emblem of the black sword was shining brilliantly.
“Phew… Thankfully, it seems I haven’t possessed someone else’s body. But… when did this start shining?”
The black sword, which used to suck blood every day, was gaining all sorts of strange abilities. While gazing at the faintly glowing emblem, I let out a small sigh and got up from the bed.
“For now, let’s investigate where this is, instead of thinking about the mark on my hand.”
I cautiously surveyed the room.
“Ah! My bag, it’s here!”
Fortunately, my bag was placed on one side of the room. Since I couldn’t walk around in my pajamas, I took out clothes from the bag and changed.
I was worried about what would happen if someone came in, but luckily, no one showed up. After changing into everyday clothes, I headed towards the terrace.
“I shouldn’t go out through the door and run into enemies. Let’s roughly figure out where I am.”
I couldn’t move recklessly since I didn’t know where I was.
From inside the room, the terrace entrance looked like two separate entrances, but the two terraces were connected and quite spacious. I passed by the tea table and chairs and looked at the outside scenery.
“Where is this…?”
Everywhere within sight was filled with lush green leaves of trees. It didn’t seem like the place where Nest’s headquarters were.
“Hmm, huh? I think I see something in the distance.”
It felt like there was something beyond the forest. I held onto the terrace railing and leaned forward.
“It doesn’t seem like a building. Is it a massive wall?”
A wall that seemed to stretch endlessly into the distance could be seen. I squinted my eyes and stared at the enormous wall. Upon closer inspection, I could discern that the wall was translucent. I leaned even further forward and muttered.
“It’s not a wall, it’s-“
“Lian!”
Before I could utter a different response, a scream-like commotion came from behind. Startled, my body stiffened, and naturally, I leaned forward.
“Oh…!”
As I was thinking, “Huh? Am I falling?” someone who had rushed towards me grabbed me from behind.
Wobbling, thump.
Thanks to that, my body didn’t fall backward. Instead, my body staggered and ended up sitting on the terrace floor. In an instant, my vision suddenly changed, and I lost all sense of awareness.
After belatedly regaining my senses, just as I was about to express my gratitude to the person.
Thud!
A rough touch grabbed my shoulder.
“What on earth! What were you doing standing there!?”
“Huh?”
Facing Noah’s contorted face, I felt like I had done something terribly wrong. I rolled my eyes in exasperation.
“Well, it was dangerous, but I wouldn’t die from falling from that height, right?”
“I’m sorry, I made a mistake.”
Ah.
I belatedly realized that my thoughts and words had come out in the opposite way. When I glanced at Noah’s face, he seemed shocked, his mouth hanging open.
It was the expression of someone facing an incomprehensible unknown. I immediately raised both hands and spoke.
“No, that’s not it! I meant bungee jumping! It came out wrong because bungee jumping is familiar to me!”
***
“Bungee… jumping…? What is that?”
The fact that Lian was leaning out of the terrace was shocking enough, but his nonchalant dismissal of it was even more shocking.
Noah suppressed a scream that rose to the back of his throat and waited for Lian’s excuse. Lian, without hesitation, uttered a terrible word to Noah, who had patiently waited for him.
“It’s a game where you tie your body with a rope and jump from a high place.”
“What?”
“I tried it forcibly at first, but it wasn’t as scary as I thought.”
Bungee jumping was like a swing they used to ride in their childhood for the clown resident who could fly through the sky with a single punch.
The problem was that the bright smile and jumping figure could sometimes turn into a funeral photo.
“Now I’m just a body with no rope, but I guess I foolishly misunderstood. hahahahaha. Sorry if I worried you.”
“…”
Noah couldn’t say anything in response to Lian’s apology.
‘This, this… isn’t right.’
In Noah’s eyes, Lian seemed to think that the terrible accident that almost happened earlier was nothing special.
He quickly realized that Lian’s apology meant nothing more than “I’m sorry for surprising Noah.”
“Jumping from a high place with a rope? And even forcibly?”
His pain was clearly evident in his words, which unfolded like an ordinary conversation about everyday things. But Lian, unaware of his own pain, maintained a casual expression.
It felt like facing a child who had been badly injured and was laughing as if nothing had happened. Noah felt his throat tighten and his eyes burn.
He couldn’t tell where it had started to fall apart, so his lips wouldn’t stop trembling.
It was never a good idea to fall from a high place with a rope tied to your body. Just because you can endure the pain doesn’t mean it’s okay. Thoughts like that circled in his head, but he couldn’t utter a word as if it would burst out of him.
He didn’t want to hurt him any further, already covered in blood.
“By the way, Noah, where are we? I was surprised because this isn’t the room I fell asleep in.”
“…The place where you fell asleep yesterday is where the regular members stay. The officers all live in this building. It’s a place that shouldn’t be known to the outside world, so I secretly brought you here when you fell asleep.”
“Ah! Oh my, I was so surprised not knowing that! I thought I was kidnapped! hahahahaha!”
Trying to lighten the mood, Lian laughed forcefully. But Noah’s mood sank even deeper.
“He tried to throw himself off the terrace even though he was kidnapped?”
Noah instantly recalled a horrific scene of an experiment. With that scene in mind, he could guess why Lian tried to throw himself off the terrace.
“It wasn’t okay at all.”
Lian always said that. That he was fine because his body recovered quickly. That he wasn’t in pain or suffering.
Noah had always been deceived by Lian’s bright smile. But it wasn’t true. It wasn’t.
His insides were already rotten and exposed, in a state where they could collapse at any moment.
“Noah, the floor is cold. Let’s go inside.”
He never hesitated to extend his hand first for others on such occasions. Gathering around his warmth, without realizing how much pain he was in, he hid his wounds from everyone.
Noah bit the inside of his cheek and stood up abruptly without taking Lian’s hand.
He would no longer be the one who relied on others, but the one others relied on. The foolish person who only cried in fear was no longer there.
Her eyes flashed a bright blue.
***
‘She must be really angry…’
The outstretched hand was quickly withdrawn, and I wiped my hands on my pants, rolling my eyes. Noah’s stern gaze made it seem like he was very angry.
“Ah, I should be more careful next time.”
Indeed, I shouldn’t be wandering around someone else’s house recklessly. Thinking that, I headed into the room.
Soon, Lily, Jess, and Iris came to find me. Iris rushed over as if my side was her designated spot.
Jess hesitated and sat down next to my legs, burying their face on my knees. As I absentmindedly stroked Jess’s head, a meal was prepared on the table.
“Ah, if you had told me, I would have gone to the restaurant.”
“It’s more comfortable to eat in the room.”
Lily swallowed her words and smiled, as if saying, “From now on, it would be better to eat in the room. We don’t have any reason to go out anyway.”
