#49. Actions speak louder than words
2023.11.17.
Na-ri was very surprised to hear that Lee Hyun and Ye-rin were hugging each other. She
asked again, wondering if she had misheard.
“Huh?”
Na-ri covered her mouth with both hands to prevent her exclamation from bursting out.
‘This is crazy. What on earth were you two doing in the locker room?’
However, Na-ri tried hard not to show her confusion and spoke.
“Hey. Maybe Secretary Choi saw something wrong?”
“No. I saw it clearly.”
Secretary Choi muttered as if he still couldn’t believe it even though he had seen it himself.
“The director unbuttoned his shirt and… … .”
“Huh?”
“He was hugging Secretary Han Ye-rin from behind.”
“… … .”
Only then did Na-ri realize why Secretary Choi looked so surprised.
The cell phone Na-ri was holding fell to the floor.
Thump-
Na-ri came to her senses belatedly at that sound.
“Huh. That can’t be. “You two, aren’t you related?”
Nari was also very surprised, but she had to pretend not to be for now.
“No, you clearly said in the car earlier that you had a difficult relationship with Chief Chae-hyun.”
Secretary Choi was not
the type to talk nonsense. Judging from her absent-minded expression, it seemed like what he said was true.
There was no way their hearts could have been set ablaze in such a short period of time.
“Did Secretary Choi suddenly come in while she was changing clothes and they were so flustered that they hugged each other?”
That was the most reasonable inference.
It would have been better if she had seen that scene while she was bringing the clothes.
How surprised Secretary Choi must have been to see that scene, not knowing anything about the subtle emotions going back and forth between the two.
Secretary Choi, who was lost in thought, looked at Nari and spoke as if asking for her consent.
“I really didn’t know that you two would be waiting for me with your clothes already undressed.”
Secretary Choi let out a sigh as he slumped down in his chair.
“I thought you might be waiting, so I opened the door without knocking to quickly deliver the clothes… … .”
“Oh, did you?”
Only then did Nari begin to understand the situation that Secretary Choi had seen.
Secretary Choi opened the door without a sound, and it seemed that Lee Hyun had hugged Yerin, who was in the locker room, to hide her.
Nari spoke kindly to Secretary Choi.
“It’s okay, Secretary Choi. That’s possible.”
“How many years have you been a personal secretary? How could you make such a mistake?”
Nari let out a warm voice after hearing Secretary Choi’s self-reproach.
“Secretary Choi is human, too. Everyone makes mistakes.”
Secretary Choi slowly turned his head at Nari’s consolation.
Nari smiled at Secretary Choi.
“I think I know all too well how Secretary Choi felt when he wanted to deliver the clothes quickly.”
Sunlight poured in through the window at that exact moment, and it touched Nari’s face.
“So don’t blame yourself too much.”
At that bright smile like the spring sunshine, Secretary Choi’s heart began to beat even faster.
A moment ago, his heartbeat was so fast that it couldn’t even compare to the one he had been feeling because of his own mistake. It had been
so long since he felt this emotion, so Secretary Choi looked at Na-ri with a blank expression like before.
“Secretary Choi?”
“Oh, yes. Representative Kim Na-ri.”
Secretary Choi belatedly came to his senses when he heard Na-ri’s warm voice calling him.
“Are you okay?”
“Yes, I’m completely fine thanks to Representative Kim’s comfort.”
Huh-
Secretary Choi took a deep breath and got up from his seat.
“Thank goodness.”
Na-ri smiled faintly and picked up her cell phone that had fallen on the floor.
The screen of the cell phone was cracked because she had dropped it in surprise.
Secretary Choi noticed it and made an apologetic face.
“Oh. Is the cell phone okay?”
“Yes. It turns on just fine.”
Na-ri tapped the screen a few times and then let out a short “Ah-.
” “What’s wrong?”
Secretary Choi grabbed Na-ri’s hand that was touching the screen of the cell phone.
There was a little blood.
Nari frowned slightly as she spat out the words.
“I think I touched the broken LCD with my hand.”
“Really?”
Secretary Choi took a handkerchief out of his pocket and wrapped it tightly around Na-ri’s bleeding finger.
“Just in case, you should go to the hospital.”
“No, it was just a slight stab.”
“But it’s dangerous to leave it alone because there might be glass stuck in it.”
Na-ri nodded as if entranced by Secretary Choi’s serious voice.
“Okay. That would be good.”
Secretary Choi picked up Na-ri’s cell phone and gently grabbed her finger wrapped in a handkerchief.
Lee Hyun and Ye-rin, who had just changed their clothes, returned to the cafeteria.
“No, you two… …”
This time, it was Lee Hyun and Ye-rin who were surprised.
It was understandable that Secretary Choi and Na-ri, who hadn’t seemed that close until this morning, were suddenly holding hands.
Before she could even ask what was going on, Secretary Choi blurted out something urgent.
“When I told CEO Kim Na-ri that you two were hugging each other in the locker room earlier, she seemed really surprised and dropped her cell phone.”
As if to prove his words, Secretary Choi held up the cell phone with the broken screen in one hand as evidence.
“And when you tried to turn it on, your hand got stabbed by the glass.”
“Oh, are you okay?”
Yerin asked worriedly, and Na-ri smiled to reassure her.
One hand was still held by Secretary Choi.
“Even if you say you’re okay now, I think it would be better to go to the hospital.”
Yerin agreed.
“Yes, that would be good.”
“Then we’ll go up to Seoul first.”
Lee Hyun called out to Secretary Choi again as he passed him by.
“Secretary Choi, in the locker room earlier. The door opened abruptly, so I was trying to cover up a secretary.”
“Yes, sir.”
“I was afraid you might misunderstand.”
“I won’t misunderstand.”
Just a moment ago, she wanted to hear his story because she was very curious about the relationship between Lee Hyun and Yerin, but not now.
It felt like it was all her fault that she had said something unnecessary and Na-ri’s cell phone screen had broken, and that she had gotten hurt while touching it.
“I’ll go to the hospital first and get back to you.”
“Okay, go quickly.”
Na-ri winked at Ye-rin and disappeared with Secretary Choi.

“I can drive… … .”
Secretary Choi opened the passenger door and made it easy for Na-ri to get in.
“If you use your hands too much, the glass might get stuck deep. I heard that the particles in liquid crystal glass are so small that they can’t be seen with the naked eye.”
Na-ri started to get a little scared when she heard that.
The bleeding had stopped, but the tips of her fingers that had touched the liquid crystal glass still stung.
Secretary Choi had driven Na-ri’s car once before, so he got into the driver’s seat very familiarly and started the car smoothly.
“I’m going to take you to Jiseok Hospital. Is that okay?”
“Yes, I’d like to.”
Na-ri was very grateful to Secretary Choi for worrying about her as if she were her own finger.
The last time he drove her home and we had a beer together, he seemed like such an affectionate person, and it was the same today.
“Thank you, Secretary Choi.”
At those words, Secretary Choi opened his mouth while driving and looking ahead.
“I’m Choi Hyun-joon.”
He realized later that he didn’t know his real name because he always called him Secretary Choi, Secretary Choi.
Strictly speaking, he felt bad for calling him that when he wasn’t even his secretary.
“Can I call you Mr. Hyun-joon?”
Hyun-joon slowly nodded his head and smiled brightly.
“Okay, CEO Kim Na-ri.”
“Then please call me by my title.”
Hyun-joon widened his eyes as if he was slightly surprised by the request.
“Let’s call each other by our names. We’re not even related by work.”
Hyun-joon glanced at Na-ri, who was making such a concise statement, and smiled in return.
“Understood, Na-ri.”
There was no particular conversation in the car on the way to the hospital, but the two were thinking the same thing.
It was a good idea to come to volunteer at the daycare today.
***
After Na-ri and Secretary Choi left for Seoul first, Lee Hyun, Ye-rin, and Hee-joon volunteered to do the laundry.
Yerin put the blanket in a large rubber tub and climbed into it.
Lee Hyun, who was watching from the side, rolled up his jeans a few times and put his legs into the tub where Yerin was standing.
“It seems like it would be hard to do it alone, so should we do it together?”
“Okay.”
“Can you tell me how to do this?”
Yerin lightly stepped on the blanket one step at a time.
“Just keep stepping on it like this. Ouch!”
Yerin lost her balance and stumbled, perhaps because she had dissolved too much detergent and was slippery.
Lee Hyun quickly stretched out his arm and grabbed Yerin’s waist.
Their bodies were pressed against each other, and their gazes crossed in the air.
“Oh, thank you.”
Yerin smiled shyly, brushing her flowing hair behind her ear.
“You have to be careful.”
Even though Yerin stood tall again, Lee Hyun did not let her go.
“Chief? I’m okay now.”
“I think it would be better if we stayed like this for a while.”
“Yes?”
Lee Hyun whispered softly in Yerin’s ear, who was widening her eyes in curiosity.
“Park Heejun is glaring at us from the diagonal.”
“Ah… … .”
She had been feeling a stinging sensation in her back for a while, and now she seemed to understand why.
“Han Ye-rin, do you remember touching my lips when you were drunk before?”
“Yes? Yes. I remember.”
Just as she was wondering why she was suddenly bringing up that story,
Lee Hyun came a little closer and gently cupped Ye-rin’s cheek with one hand.
Lee Hyun’s gaze lowered, and her face quickly turned red.
“Sometimes, actions speak louder than words.”
Lee Hyun slowly rubbed Ye-rin’s lips with his thumb.
It was only a finger touch, but Lee Hyun’s gaze was so intense that it felt as if he could feel it with his eyes.
Because of that, Ye-rin stood awkwardly at attention, feeling nervous.
Lee Hyun saw her and spoke.
“Han Ye-rin, if you stand there awkwardly frozen like that, it’ll just end up spreading rumors that we’re not really a couple.”
“Then how… …”
“Should we kiss?”
