#61. Precious Person

Heejun had a tendency to subtly ignore people like this.
“Yerin, are you having trouble finding a place to move into and moving from motel to motel?”
After telling her that story, Heejun grabbed her wrist again, probably thinking she had a point.
“Hey, let’s talk. I’ll get you an officetel in Gangnam. You can live there.”
“Oppa, let this go.”
“I’ll get you a house that you can’t afford even if you save up a couple of pennies from your salary.”
As expected, Heejun didn’t respect the other person’s wishes at all today.
“But you and Chief Chaehyun are in a relationship that’s too embarrassing to make public, right?”
“What?”
“No, there aren’t any pictures of the two of you together on SNS or anything.”
At those words, Yerin unconsciously bit her lips.
Thinking about it, she had spent a lot of time on formal dates, but there wasn’t a single picture of her with Leehyun.
“You two are in a shady relationship, huh?”
Heejun straightened his shoulders as he gained confidence in his thoughts.
“Yerin, what good is that kind of relationship, why keep meeting Chaehyun? Let’s stop here and go somewhere quiet and talk properly.”
At that moment, when Yerin stretched out her arm to pull Heejun’s arm away
, a familiar woody scent tickled her nose, and Heejun’s arm, which was holding Yerin’s wrist, lifted into the air and snapped.
Heejun let out a single scream and jumped up and down in his seat.
“Hey! Who the hell did this… …”
Then, he belatedly discovered the person who had grabbed his arm and tightly closed his lips.
Yerin was surprised when she saw the face of the man who had unexpectedly appeared.
“Huh? Chief?”
It was definitely Lee Hyun, the man who was supposed to be in Germany until today.
“How did I… …”
Lee Hyun let out a low voice as he faced Yerin’s surprised face.
“I missed you. I came early.”
That simple sentence, coming out of Lee Hyun’s mouth, sent a huge ripple through Yerin’s heart.
Lee Hyun took his gaze away from Yerin and stared coldly at Heejun.
“My woman, I clearly warned you not to come here.”
Heejun started to make excuses while still being held by Lee Hyun.
“No, I came here because there was a murder at the villa where Yerin lives!”
Lee Hyun’s gaze dropped even colder at that story.
“Why are you?”
He was asking if she was worried.
“Don’t do something useless when you’re not qualified to do it.”
Lee Hyun suddenly released the strength in his hand that was holding Heejun’s arm.
Heejun lost his balance for a moment and fell to the floor with an ugly thud.
Lee Hyun immediately turned around to block Yerin from Heejun’s sight and wrapped his arm around her waist.
“Then shall we go look at furniture together?”
Yerin looked surprised, her eyes wide open.
Hee-jun, who had gotten up late, wiped his knees and pricked up his ears to eavesdrop on their conversation.
“There must be quite a lot of things to buy. TV, vacuum cleaner, hangers, table, etc. Right?”
Only then did Ye-rin realize that they were talking about filling up her empty house.
“Oh, right.”
“We were going to go fill up the furniture together. That’s why I came back early.”
This business trip to Germany was already tight, but they had even shortened their schedule.
“I guess it would be better to buy a small bed?”
Ye-rin nodded slowly, thinking that since it was going to be her place anyway, there was no need for a big one.
“I guess so.”
Then, Ye-rin asked, worried that Lee-hyun looked more tired than usual.
“You must be tired, so you can go home and rest and then go look at the furniture later.”
Lee-hyun smiled charmingly at her words.
“Then should we go to my house and sleep for a bit and then come back?”
Hee-jun, who had been eavesdropping on her words, sighed and left the room.
Yerin realized only then.
Heejun was still standing beside her, not leaving.
‘He must have heard everything I and the chief talked about.’
Yerin glanced at the direction Heejun was disappearing, and Lee Hyun slowly stepped to the side, blocking her gaze.
Then he lifted Yerin’s chin with one hand without hurting her, and muttered,
“You have to look at me.”
“Oh, I’m sorry. Rather than that, we were supposed to come tomorrow, but aren’t you pushing yourself too hard?”
“Yes, I pushed myself too hard.”
Lee Hyun slowly let go of the hand that was holding Yerin’s face and took a step back.
“I want to see you even if it means pushing myself too hard. Isn’t there no other way?”
Today, Yerin’s cheeks turned red at Lee Hyun’s straightforward remark.
“But was it only me that wanted to see you?”
Lee Hyun put his hands in his pants pockets and tilted his head.
His face seemed to be expecting Yerin’s honest answer.
Yerin slowly avoided Lee Hyun’s gaze while tightly holding her bag with one hand.
Then she let out a small voice.
“I missed you too.”
It was a small voice, but Lee Hyun let out a satisfied snicker.
“Let’s go in my car. You don’t know how uncomfortable it was to fly to Germany, leaving Han Yerin in an empty house without any necessary furniture.”
***
Lee Hyun’s car stopped in front of a high-end furniture store in downtown Seoul.
He could tell that it wasn’t just a rumor for Heejun to hear.
When they entered the store with Lee Hyun, the clerk greeted them warmly.
“I’ll show you the furniture you said you needed in advance.”
Since Lee Hyun had already handed over the list of furniture he planned to buy to the store, the shopping went on surprisingly quickly.
“Would you like to look at the beds last?”
The clerk guided the two of them toward the beds in the store.
“This is the bed most often chosen by newlyweds this year… …”
After that, the clerk went on to explain the good points of the beds, but Yerin couldn’t hear them very well.
It felt strange because wherever Lee Hyun went
, people kept misunderstanding that they were newlyweds. “Well, it’s understandable that they would misunderstand because we came to look at furniture together.”
Yerin shook her head slowly, trying not to give it any more meaning.
Lee Hyun asked,
“Do you not like this bed?”
“Yes?”
“Because he shook his head.”
“Oh, no.”
Yerin awkwardly smiled, unable to bring herself to say that she shook her head to erase the imagination she had had when she heard the word newlyweds.
“Is this bed good?”
“Okay, then please deliver this bed right away.”
“Understood, sir.”
***
Lee Hyun and Yerin returned to the villa where the two lived.
The elevator stopped at Yerin’s house, and before she got off, Lee Hyun suddenly spoke.
“Haen Yerin, you haven’t had dinner yet, have you?”
“Yes, the chief hasn’t had dinner either, right?”
Lee Hyun nodded once as he pressed the elevator open button.
“Let’s have dinner together at my house. How about that?”
Since she had planned to have a quick dinner even if she was going home anyway, she was very grateful for Lee Hyun’s offer.
“Okay. I’ll just change my clothes and go up.”
Yerin stepped out of the elevator, and soon the door slid shut.
A little later, her heart began to beat strangely at the thought of being able to see Lee Hyun again.
***
Yerin came home and stood busily in front of the hanger where the clothes Lee Hyun had bought her were hanging.
“What should I wear?”
It was only a simple dinner, but she wanted to pay attention to her outfit.
After picking up and putting down several clothes from the hanger, Yerin finally chose the dress she had chosen first.
Feeling that she shouldn’t make Lee Hyun wait alone for too long, Yerin quickly changed into the dress and checked her appearance in the mirror.
The flower-patterned chiffon dress fluttered and fluttered whenever Yerin moved.
“Oh, does it look like I’m dressed up too much?”
However, there was no other way because it seemed like it would take too long to choose and change clothes again.
“I’m just going to have dinner with the residents who live upstairs.”
She tried to brainwash herself with that, but her heart, which had been beating hard since earlier, was pounding as if she was expecting something.
This was a big deal.
***
Leerin simply placed the food that Jin Heonjae’s helper had sent on the table.
The doorbell rang just in time.
Since Yerin knew the door lock password, he thought she would naturally press it and come in, so he didn’t move.
Tilt his head and Lee Hyun slowly walked toward the front door.
When he opened the front door, he saw Yerin in front of him, wearing a flower-patterned chiffon one-piece dress and looking shy.
Lee Hyun opened the front door wide and stepped aside to make it easier for Yerin to enter.
“Excuse me.”
Lee Hyun asked Yerin as she entered the house.
“Don’t you know the password?”
“Yes, that’s true, but… … .”
“But?”
“When I come to wake up the chief in the morning, I can’t open the door for you, so I just press the password.”
Hearing that, she didn’t press the door today because Lee Hyun could open it for her.
Lee Hyun let out a small snicker at those words.
“You can come and go as comfortably as you would at my own home.”
Yerin joked as she headed to the kitchen.
“What would you say if something important disappeared from the chief’s house?”
“There’s nothing important in our house.”
After saying that, Lee Hyun belatedly let out an “ah.
” “Why are you saying that?”
“There’s nothing important, but someone important just came in.”
And Lee Hyun looked at Yerin with a deep gaze, so that she knew exactly who that important person was.
“I wish that person would never disappear from my side.”
Today again, Hyun’s confession of his feelings was out of the blue.
Yerin’s calm heart was once again hit by a big wave.
