“You’re not really pushing me away because you hate Chief Cha Hyun, are you?”
“That’s right.”
Yerin hesitated for a moment and then slowly opened her mouth.
“Okay, Chief Cha, too.”
“That’s right. It would be a shame to just let the time we have together, when we’re not even close to loving each other, pass by.”
Listening to Na-ri, it felt so right.
I just had to be honest.
Lee Hyun had always shown interest in me.
Seeing that he hadn’t talked about the woman he met at the Cheto party and disappeared recently, I couldn’t help but think that his feelings for me had grown even bigger.
“You said that before. It hurts when you think of another woman next to Chief Cha Hyun.”
“Yeah. That’s right.”
“So you shouldn’t push me away anymore and pull me away. Your man, you have to protect him.”
Maybe she was clear about what she wanted to do.
But maybe she was pretending not to know and covering it up like a coward.
Hearing Na-ri’s encouragement strangely gave me strength.
It was hard to resist Lee Hyun’s seduction anymore.
“I guess I should.”
Honestly, it was time to really move forward, following her heart.

Seo Yoon opened her laptop and checked her mailbox. An email from Director Park had arrived.
“As expected, you’re really capable.”
The email he sent contained a list of Lee Hyun’s secretarial staff.
Seo Yoon’s eyes, slowly reading through the files she had organized, sparkled when she found one person.
“This person would be the best.”
Seo Yoon quickly deleted the email and started sending messages.
If there was no opportunity, she could create one herself.

“A new salad place opened near the office. Do you want to go there today?”
Seol-gi liked Hye-jin’s story and got up.
“Secretary Han, are you going to come with me?”
For some reason, Hye-jin asked Ye-rin if she wanted to go too.
Since they had to continue working together, Ye-rin nodded, not wanting to embarrass herself if possible.
“Yes, I’ll go with you.”
As they left the Jiseok Electronics building and walked to the new salad place.
Hyejin checked her phone and froze in place. Seolgi
asked in a puzzled tone.
“Secretary Shin, what’s wrong?”
“I don’t think I can have lunch with you today.”
“Huh? Suddenly?”
“Oh, sorry. I forgot about our previous engagement.”
With that, Hyejin quickly walked away.
Seolgi let out a breath as if she was dumbfounded and started walking again.
“Secretary Han, let’s have lunch together.”
“Yes, I’d like to.”
***
Hyejin hurriedly entered a quiet private cafe near the office.
It was lunchtime, but there was only one customer in the cafe, probably because everyone was already eating.
Hyejin glanced at her phone once and then at the woman sitting at the table.
She spoke first.
“Ms. Shin Hyejin?”
“Yes, I’m Shin Hyejin.”
When she approached cautiously, the other person smiled and greeted her.
“Did you get the message I sent? My name is Kwak Seo-yoon.”
Hyejin, who had been slowly scanning her face after hearing the name, let out an “ah-” sound.
She said it was familiar, as if she had seen it somewhere, but she had seen it in a photo.
It was the woman who was at the top of Lee Hyun’s blind date list on Yerin’s desk.
“Why did you ask me to see you?”
“First, sit down. I didn’t call you to harm you, so don’t be so guarded.”
Seoyoon glanced
at the empty seat in front of her. Hyejin had no choice but to sit down.
“Where did you get information about me?”
The reason she had no choice but to come here today was because Seoyoon knew about my private life.
Although Jisuk Electronics prohibited her from having a side job, Hyejin worked at a friend’s store on weekend evenings.
Since she was dealing with customers who drank, she received her taxes in cash, so she had been able to work for several years without any problems. She
usually spent a lot of money, so she started this job because she couldn’t handle just her job as Jisuk Electronics’ secretary.
No one around her knew that Hyejin worked at a bar. Not even her family.
But Seo-yoon, whom she was meeting for the first time today, knew such details and sent threatening messages using them, so she couldn’t help but be on guard.
“There’s nothing that can’t be done if you invest money, in this world.”
Seo-yoon casually confessed that she had done background checks.
Hye-jin was dumbfounded, but she couldn’t say anything.
It was as if she had found a major weakness.
“So why did you ask me to meet like this today?”
“Please give me Director Cha Yi-hyun’s personal schedule.”
“Huh?”
Hye-jin’s lips parted slightly at the unexpected request.
“I really didn’t call you here to threaten Shin Hye-jin.”
Seo-yoon took out an envelope from her bag and pushed it towards Hye-jin.
It was an envelope that looked like it had money inside without even opening it.
“I’m willing to pay the price, of course, depending on how useful the information you give me is.”
“No matter what, it’s a bit much to tell me Director Cha Yi-hyun’s schedule… …”
“Can you still say that after you’ve been fired from Ji-seok Electronics?”
The fact that he said he didn’t call her to threaten her was a complete lie.
“Wouldn’t it be better to have a decent job as Ji-seok’s electronic secretary than just living as a bar girl?”
Hye-jin clenched her fists under the table at his sarcastic tone.
“I’m not asking you to hand over confidential company information.”
Seo-yoon smiled brightly and began listing her demands.
“I’m fine with personal schedules that aren’t related to company work.”
So Seo-yoon stared at Hye-jin as if it wouldn’t be much of a problem.
Hye-jin still had a worried look on her face.
“Let’s check this first.”
Hye-jin’s gaze fell on the envelope Seo-yoon held out.
‘Okay, I’m just checking. And then you can refuse.’
With that thought in mind, Hye-jin slowly picked up the envelope.
It was very light.
Hye-jin’s eyes widened significantly as she checked the contents of the envelope.
“This, this… …”
There was a check for a much larger sum than she had expected.
Seeing Hyejin’s gaze fixed firmly on the check, Seoyoon asked,
“Will Director Chaehyun attend the KK Foods founding ceremony this weekend?”
“… … .”
“Isn’t that a simple question that can be answered with yes or no? If you just answer that once, the check you have now will belong to Shin Hyejin.”
Hyejin’s eyes fluttered at those words.
When there was no answer, Seoyoon reached out and tried to take the check Hyejin was holding.
“If Shin Hyejin says she won’t do this, I’ll ask someone else.”
Seoyoon stood up without any regrets.
However, Hyejin had an overly regrettable expression on her face.
“Shin Hyejin?”
Seoyoon reached out and shook her hand as if telling her to quickly hand over the check.
Hyejin took a deep breath and spoke in a quiet voice.
“She will attend.”
Seoyoon’s eyebrows rose slightly as if in surprise.
When Seoyoon sat down again, Hyejin began to blurt out her schedule.
“You don’t attend every year, so I thought you would do the same this year, but this time you replied that you will attend.”
“Really? That event, you’re going with a partner. Do you know who you’re going with?”
“No. I really don’t know.”
Hyejin made a desperate face, as if she was being sincere.
Seoyoon didn’t really reprimand her, as if she was satisfied with just finding out one thing about Lee Hyun’s schedule.
“Shin Hyejin, you can keep doing that in the future.”
“Is that okay?”
“What’s wrong? If you and I keep it a secret, won’t no one know?”
Seoyoon got up from her seat with a relieved expression .
“Take the check. Think of it as payment for giving me the information.”
Hyejin quickly blocked Seoyoon’s path as she was about to walk away.
“Then you won’t tell the company about me, right?”
“Oh, that.”
Seoyoon nodded with a grin.
“Of course. If Shin Hyejin stays at the company for a long time, I’ll get a lot of information.”
“That’s right.”
“So before you get caught, let’s wrap up the work at that bar. Instead, wouldn’t it pay better to do the job I give you?”
That was certain.
While dealing with drunk people in a bar was physical labor, this job was much less intense and paid well.
“The more valuable the information you give me, the more I’m willing to pay.”
Seo-yoon took a step closer and closed the distance between herself and Hye-jin.
“So, bring me a lot of interesting information. Then, wouldn’t I buy as many luxury bags as I want?”
“… … .”
Hye-jin looked at Seo-yoon in surprise, who had already figured out her spending habits.
“Then I’ll wait for your next call. Just let me know as soon as you have the information.”
With that, Seo-yoon suddenly left the cafe.
Hye-jin’s legs gave out and she slumped down on the chair.
She held a large check in one hand, holding it tightly.
“Yeah, I’m not handing over confidential company information, right?”
She brainwashed herself into thinking that it wouldn’t be a big deal if she told him about Lee Hyun’s personal schedule. She
was already blinded by the money she received from Seo-yoon, and she had the willpower to sell the company information.
Before she came to meet Seo-yoon, she had thought her career was on the verge of ending, but this was actually another opportunity.
“If I meet that woman just a few times, I’ll just end up with a pile of designer bags at home.”
Thinking about carrying a brand new bag to every gathering made me feel thrilled from the tip of my toes.
“I worked hard and this opportunity came.”
The guilt I had felt a moment ago was nowhere to be found.
Hyejin’s steps as she left the cafe were much lighter than before.
