#95. A Relationship Left as a Memories
2024.04.26.
Yerin squeezed her eyes shut as she slowly pulled away the hand that Lee Hyun was holding.
“Yes, that woman, that’s me.”
Originally, she had no intention of telling him.
However, if Lee Hyun knew, it would be different.
At least, it meant that she couldn’t hide it from him
until the end. She couldn’t ask how long Lee Hyun had known.
No, did
she even have the right to do that? She couldn’t ask him that question because she was so sorry that she had deceived Lee Hyun.
“I’m sorry I couldn’t tell you, Chief.”
There was no reply from Lee Hyun.
‘You must feel betrayed.’
It seemed that way even if the situation had been the other way around.
“I wasn’t officially invited to that party. I was friends with someone from Cheto, so I attended the after-party briefly, and that’s where I met the Chief.”
Lee Hyun listened to Yerin’s story in silence.
“I really wanted to end our relationship that day, in one night.”
The words Yerin blurted out made Lee Hyun, who had been frozen for a long time, furrow his brow slightly, as if he had not expected them.
“That’s why I desperately hid the fact that I was that woman.”
Yerin clasped her hands together and slowly raised her head.
Her dark eyes, which could not read her inner thoughts, were focused on her.
“Sometimes, shouldn’t we end things as memories in order to have beautiful relationships?”
Lee Hyun let out a short sigh and then slowly opened his lips.
“So according to one secretary, our relationship should be left as a memory of the past?”
“Yes.”
Lee Hyun brushed his bangs with one hand as if he was disappointed at Yerin’s words, which he blurted out without hesitation.
“I’m sorry.”
Yerin dropped her gaze to the floor as she spoke.
“In many ways, I think it would be right for our relationship to end here. Your trust in me must have hit rock bottom.”
Lee Hyun was silent for a while.
After gathering his thoughts for a moment, his mouth slowly opened.
“Yes. “Secretary Han’s opinion is like that.”
Lee Hyun placed her earring on Yerin’s still trembling palm.
“I will instruct Secretary Choi to find a replacement for Secretary Han as soon as possible.”
“Yes.”
“Put your resignation letter on the desk over there. Go out.”
After saying that, Lee Hyun turned his back and left the office first.
Yerin shut her eyes tightly at the sound of the door slamming shut.
Although she had clearly broken up and ended her relationship with Lee Hyun the way she wanted, she didn’t feel relieved.
Instead, she felt heavy and distraught as if something was inside her.
“Ha.”
Yerin hurriedly left his office without Lee Hyun and headed to the bathroom. She
went into an empty room, locked the door, and quietly let out the tears she had been holding back.
Now it was really over.
The memories of laughing and being happy while by Lee Hyun’s side were truly memories and it was time to leave him.
***
That day, Lee Hyun took a half-day off in the afternoon for the first time.
Many people were surprised because Lee Hyun, who had worked at the Ji Seok Group for several years without even taking a proper vacation, was surprised.
Lee Hyun, who thought he would keep thinking about Yerin when he was in the office, drove his car without thinking.
Lee Hyun knew better than anyone that Yerin’s feelings for announcing the breakup were not sincere.
There must have been a reason why she had to say the breakup.
He knew that Yerin was upset after the recent meeting with Chairman Cha. He did
n’t want to take the initiative and pretend to know, so he just watched, but who would have thought that this would happen?
He could have definitely prevented it, but it was so painful that he couldn’t.
Lee Hyun parked his car in a wide park and buried his face in the steering wheel.
He had never been so lost and confused in his life.
After a while, Lee Hyun emptied his head of the distracting thoughts that had been filling his head and raised his head again.
His confused eyes soon returned to their original Cha Hyun.
“Yes, that random article today.”
The person who was supposedly the one who wrote that article might have also provoked Yerin.
Soon, the suspicion turned into certainty.
Lee Hyun called Secretary Choi right away.
“Secretary Choi, I need you to make an appointment with Kwak Seo-yoon right away.”
***
“What? You really want to meet me?”
Seo-yoon’s mood changed several times today.
This morning, she couldn’t hide her happiness when she saw the news articles pouring out that she was Lee Hyun’s fiancée.
Then, not long after, when a correction article came out saying that it was groundless, her heart immediately fell to the floor.
It wasn’t that she hadn’t expected Lee Hyun to release such a correction, but she didn’t know that he would do it so quickly and without any consultation, so she was just embarrassed.
Then, out of nowhere, she got a call from Lee Hyun’s secretary.
She couldn’t hide her excitement again when Lee Hyun said that he wanted to see her together.
“You were sorry after releasing the article so decisively, weren’t you?”
She felt like she was going to let it all go and build a solid relationship from the beginning before revealing it to the press again.
Seo-yoon hurried to the dressing room.
***
A restaurant located in a tower with a great view of Seoul’s nightscape.
Seo-yoon went inside with excitement.
There was a very handsome man sitting in the seat by the window.
Today, he was alone.
Yerin wasn’t next to him, and Suhyun wasn’t there instead of Lee Hyun.
The one-on-one meeting with Lee Hyun that he
had been longing for. Seo Yoon’s steps became even stronger.
Lee Hyun got up from his seat when he noticed Seo Yoon approaching.
“Thank you for accepting my sudden request to meet.”
“No. I don’t have plans tonight either.”
“I already ordered in advance.”
“Yes, I’d like it.”
Seo Yoon smiled brightly, feeling that it would taste good even if she chewed sand with Lee Hyun.
“I’ll get straight to the point. Was the article I read this morning written by Kwak Seo Yoon?”
“No?”
As expected, Seo Yoon didn’t admit it.
“I was also very surprised when I saw that article. Where on earth did that rumor come from?”
Lee Hyun’s brow hardened slightly at the sight of her smiling face covering her mouth with one hand.
Lee Hyun, who had been controlling his expression, spoke up.
“That’s right. Not many people would know about the engagement rumors going around between us.”
“… … .”
Seo-yoon’s eyes widened significantly because Lee Hyun mentioned the word engagement first.
However, unlike Seo-yoon, Lee Hyun was very calm.
“Why are you so surprised? This isn’t the first time you’ve heard of this.”
“Oh, that’s right.”
“That’s good to hear that you didn’t publish the article. It would be better to discuss it with the elders of the family before publishing an article in the press.”
Seo-yoon said she didn’t publish the article, but Lee Hyun was certain that it was her doing.
She was the one who had the most to gain from the article. He
knew better than anyone that threatening and warning Seo-yoon wouldn’t quiet her down.
So perhaps the right way would be to give her a proper treat and lock her up in prison without her knowing. He thought that if
he held Seo-yoon back so that she wouldn’t run wild any more, she wouldn’t bother Ye-rin any more.
“I don’t have time to worry about anything else these days because of the new product launch I’m in charge of.”
“Is that so?”
“So I’d like to have a serious discussion about the engagement after this.”
“… … .”
“Is that okay?”
Seo-yoon wanted to scream right now.
Lee Hyun seriously mentioned the engagement first.
Seo-yoon smiled brightly and nodded.
“Yes, of course.”
In the same space, Lee Hyun had different thoughts.
While he was putting Seo-yoon to sleep, he planned to figure out a way to tie her up with Assemblyman Kwak.
Just in time, the courses he had ordered began to arrive one by one.
Lee Hyun fixed his head on Seo-yoon without eating his food.
“I thought you might be curious, so I’m telling you. I ended my relationship with the woman I was seeing.”
Seo-yoon was so surprised that Lee Hyun brought up the breakup with Ye-rin first that she dropped the fork she was holding on the table.
After hurriedly picking up the fork, Seo-yoon asked,
“Are you saying that you broke up with Han Ye-rin?”
“Yes.”
“Really?”
Seo-yoon couldn’t believe it even though she heard it clearly with her own ears.
“I thought you two would never break up.”
Lee Hyun smiled faintly at those words.
“I guess relationships between men and women can break up at any time, huh?”
Seo-yoon had to work really hard to hide her expression that seemed like she was going crazy with happiness.
‘All I had to do was get rid of Han Ye-rin, after all.’
Ye-rin definitely wouldn’t have been able to just ignore my threats.
If she had just ignored them, there would have been an easy way to drive a wedge between them and Lee Hyun.
Before she could do that, Seo-yoon was so happy that Ye-rin had given up because she was exhausted.
“So how about we just focus on the two of us now?”
That was what Lee Hyun really meant. He
was trying to fool Seo-yoon into thinking that Ye-rin and he were no longer related, and to protect her.
Although she didn’t know what he really meant, Seo-yoon smiled brightly.
“Of course.”
In any case, since Lee Hyun had mentioned the engagement first and was so friendly, she didn’t need to worry about Ye-rin.
“Then let’s prepare well. I think we’ll need a lot of help from Kwak Seo-yoon.”
“Yes, Lee Hyun will be busy, so I’ll take care of most of the engagement ceremony preparations. Please take care of it.”
Lee Hyun was planning to prepare to bring down Seo Yoon and Assemblyman Kwak.
Seo Yoon, who did not know the real meaning of this, imagined her own engagement ceremony that would never happen dozens of times.
They were two men and women with completely different goals in the same space.
