Infected - Chapter 11
Only Noblemtl
Episode 10
“No, why are you leaving like that? You’re acting like you’re doing whatever you want.”
Finance said with a bewildered look on his face.
But Beomsik had a stern expression on his face the whole time he met Yeongman.
“What’s wrong with you? What’s wrong?”
“That’s strange.”
“what?”
“That old man’s actions are suspicious. How can he be so calm when people are dying in the streets and monsters are running rampant? They all seem like people who didn’t know something like this would happen.”
“Speak a little more quietly.”
Finance continued, glancing down the hallway.
“So what do you want to do?”
“You don’t believe that old man’s words, do you?”
Beomsik asked with narrowed eyes.
“What if you believe it? Why? At least you need to think about it.”
“Ha… Are you stupid, or just naive? It’s hard to think of the word naive when looking at your face.”
“When you do something good, do it good. Don’t be annoying.”
The face of finance was distorted.
“It doesn’t matter anyway. No matter what choice I make. No? Do you need to ask my opinion? We each have our own paths to take.”
“Oh, right. I made a mistake for a moment. Okay, go your way. I’ll follow that guy.”
“…wait for a sec.”
Beomsik opened the door and grabbed Jaejae as he was about to go out.
“why?”
“If you’re going to follow, make sure you do it properly. No one knows if the repair shop is safe or not. Isn’t it strange to make such a guarantee?”
“What does it matter? We each have our own paths to take anyway.”
Jae-jae roughly pushed Beom-sik away, who was blocking the door.
Then he opened the door with a look of obvious disappointment on his face.
Outside, Young-man was looking out the window with a serious expression.
“Hey, we’re done talking, so come in. And from now on, let’s not make decisions and leave on our own.”
“Well, okay. So, how did the story go?”
“You probably heard it all anyway.”
Beomsik, who had been standing awkwardly, muttered as he watched Youngman enter the restaurant.
“That’s true.”
“Why did you go out in the first place? It wasn’t like you were joking.”
“But wasn’t it because I left the room for a moment that we were able to have a sincere conversation? Even if it’s an ineffective wall, there’s a big difference between having a wall and not having one. Just like your relationship.”
The two stared at each other, and Jaejae shook his head first.
“Okay, I’ve decided to go with you for now. But I have a question… … .”
“How can you be sure that the garage is safe?”
Young-man asked, cutting him off.
“You really were listening to everything.”
“You can hear it, so why are you covering your ears? How can you be sure that the repair shop is safe? Yeah, it’s natural to have such questions. People are dying out like mushrooms. The only answer I can give you is this. You’ll know when you go.”
“Is that all?”
Beomsik intervened.
“Belief must begin when it cannot be seen. Then it is easier to accept it when you see it with your own eyes.”
“Ah… You keep making things difficult. I don’t really know how to do that. Tell me how to get there, and where the repair shop is. He won’t go anyway, so just ignore him.”
“Right. The repair shop is a few blocks from the intersection in front of you, towards Yeouido. The only problem is that the outside is full of them.”
“How?”
Young-man stroked his chin as if he was embarrassed.
“well.”
“Well? Is that all? No, you made that suggestion to us without any plan?”
“Wouldn’t three be better than one?”
Beomsik shook his head at her awkward smile.
I thought something was fishy, but maybe I was overestimating Youngman.
I had no plan, to the point where I felt ashamed of myself for doubting and being suspicious of him.
That was when.
Doo doo doo doo doo doo!
The sound of a helicopter began to be heard again.
The sound seemed to be getting closer and closer, as if it was passing right in front of me.
The first to react was Youngman.
As soon as he heard the sound, Young-man leaned more than half of his body out the large window of the restaurant.
He was holding on to the window frame with one hand, looking up precariously in the direction of the passing helicopter.
I felt dizzy because I thought it would fall down if I touched it lightly.
“It’s for military use!”
Youngman’s screams could be heard piercing through the noisy noise.
But when Jaegyeong and Beomsik looked up through the window, they couldn’t even see the shape of the helicopter, let alone its color, because of the large light shining down.
Finance asked.
“What? I can’t see anything, how do you know?”
“Do you really have to smell it to know if it’s a diesel or a gasoline car? If you just try, you’ll know. Anyway, for us, it’s like a shower in a clear sky. No, not a shower. We should make it a heavy rain.”
Young-man frowned and looked up at the rough wind blowing for a moment because of the helicopter, then turned his gaze to the ground.
As Youngman said, a huge number of infected people began to migrate following the helicopter.
When the helicopter first appeared a few hours ago, quite a few infected were lost, but the explosion restored them to their original state.
The helicopter that appeared again in that situation was just like Yeong-man said, a shower in a dry sky, no, a downpour.
“See? How are we going to get to the repair shop?”
Young-man, who came down from the window, shrugged his shoulders absentmindedly.
“Then let’s go right away. What if another helicopter appears from the other side? It’s terrifying to even think about. Let’s go quickly.”
“You… Are you really not going to go?”
As Young-man was about to open the restaurant door and leave, he looked back and asked.
It seemed like he felt uneasy about leaving Beomsik alone.
Or maybe it’s selfishness to want at least one more.
“It’s not my nature to be colleagues with anyone. No matter what I do, I have to be the one leading. Otherwise, there’s bound to be conflict, because everyone has their own thoughts. If we ever meet again, let’s meet in a clean world without those things.”
“The world was dirty even before those things existed.”
After saying those words, Young-man left with Jae-jae.
Jae-jae couldn’t take his eyes off Beom-sik even until the restaurant door was completely closed.
‘Are you really going to be left alone? Or do you want me to convince you one more time?’
I knew he was no ordinary man, but in the current situation, even if Lu Bu were reincarnated, it would be impossible for him to survive alone.
Finance continued to stare into the restaurant for a long time after the door closed.
Young-man, who was watching the situation, suddenly thought that he had to take Beom-sik away somehow.
Because I felt an invisible, tight string between the two.
The string kept the two from getting any closer, but also from falling apart.
At least that’s what it seemed to Youngman.
Clank-
Young-man opened the door roughly and walked towards Beom-sik, who was looking out the window.
Although Beomsik was surprised by the sudden action, he did not react.
Perhaps it is because Young-man’s actions do not feel aggressive.
“hey.”
Beomsik answered by making eye contact.
“Let’s go together.”
“I told you I’m not going.”
“If I was going to ask for your opinion, I would have said it more politely.”
“What are you talking about?”
Beomsik responded with an annoyed expression on his face.
“I’m not interested in your decision. That expression doesn’t really threaten me. Stop being stubborn like a child and get up. I hate being told twice. That’s why my wife got so stressed out.”
“What are you talking about all of a sudden?”
“That’s why he died early. I thought I would die soon too, but I somehow managed to survive. Isn’t that funny? I survived countless battles where bullets were flying, but my wife died of cancer. But I keep thinking about it, maybe it was because of my damned personality that I got stressed out.”
Beomsik, who was interrupted, tried to spit out harsh words, but ended up being speechless instead.
Because I didn’t know how to react when he suddenly started saying such nonsense.
Young-man continued to speak stubbornly.
“It was the same when I was deployed for the last operation. Of course, I didn’t know it would be the last… My wife couldn’t tell me not to go, so she silently sent me off. Her expression was exactly like yours now.”
“You’re writing a novel.”
“Whether you think differently or not is none of my business. What matters is that it looks that way to me. If I keep going like this, you’ll probably die. Just like my wife that day. And most importantly… I need you right now. I don’t know how many people you’ve needed in your life, but isn’t it the right thing for a man to follow those who need him?”
Beomsik licked his lips with a troubled look on his face.
The man standing in front of me was just rambling on and on, not knowing how to react.
“If you insist on being stubborn even after talking to this extent, I will give up. That is a problem with your character. No matter how attractive someone is, if they don’t have even the slightest bit of humanity in their heart, hanging out with them won’t be of much help. Let’s see… You have 35 minutes left, so wait until exactly 40 minutes. Okay.”
With those words, Young-man opened the door again and went out.
Outside, Jae-jae was waiting with a bewildered expression.
“why?”
“No. Well, it’s just… I’m sorry about what happened to you, ma’am.”
“Thank you.”
“But why did you suddenly go to persuade me?”
“I just gave you what you wanted.”
“Me?”
Finance frowned.
“I’ve just met that guy, but he seems like a good friend to you. Isn’t that what friends are supposed to be?”
“I’m a cop, and that kid… … .”
“I know, I know. I know roughly what kind of relationship you two have. But what good does that mean now? The whole world is in chaos, so what does that matter?”
Jaejae, who was about to refute, let out a breath and turned his gaze.
Some time has passed since then.
“One minute left.”
Young-man looked at his wrist and muttered quietly.
Soon, Youngman’s analog clock began to tick, signaling that time was up.
Finance was the first to shake his head and turn away.
Finance didn’t like the common sense.
It’s not just that I don’t like it.
I thought they were no different from bugs.
Looking back, there were many times when I failed to fulfill my role as a police officer.
There were even times when I derailed, which could be seen as a crime.
Every time that happened, reason and conscience clashed endlessly within me.
Finance rationalized his own misdeeds by saying that they were clearly different from the crimes committed by criminals.
And I thought the cause started with criminals.
There was definitely some truth to it.
Anyway, they were the ones who stirred up the quiet person first.
All those who did dirty things to make upright people suffer, tire them out, and change them were criminals.
That was it.
I had no personal feelings towards Beomsik.
The label of criminal that Beomsik wears is only blocking Jaesae’s thoughts.
Even though he knew that fact, Finance couldn’t easily let go of his prejudice.
But now, Beomsik’s presence was needed.
Even though it was selfish, it was an undeniable fact that the existence of a common person was of great help in survival.
That’s why I couldn’t move easily.
Jae-jae took out a cigarette and lit it.
Anyway, I have to go.
There was nothing like a cigarette to help me shake off my complicated emotions.
At least that’s how it was for finances.
Finance took a few sips and pressed the elevator button.
Right then.
Clank-
The restaurant door opened.
Infected people
