Infected - Chapter 5
Only Noblemtl
Episode 4
In just a few seconds, the streets were turned into chaos.
Everything on the street seemed to be swallowed up by them rushing in like a storm.
People who realized the situation belatedly scattered and tried to run away, but nowhere was safe.
Falling, stepping on, getting ripped and cut.
The once peaceful streets were now covered in blood.
At that moment, a woman fell to the floor with the infected person holding her by the back of her neck.
She desperately tried to push the infected away, but it didn’t work.
As the number of infected people rushing in increased to two, three, and then four, only the desperate struggle of a woman whose body had been torn alive remained.
The woman, shivering and screaming in a chilling manner, died immediately.
Finances were going crazy.
Voices pleading for help could be heard from all directions.
It was a miserable scream, soaked in pain.
How many times in your life will you hear something like that?
He tried not to look back the whole time he was running.
But I felt like if I kept running like this, I would definitely end up like that.
I quickly looked around.
‘Shall we take a car?’
I noticed an abandoned car with the door open.
This might be safer.
The moment he hurriedly reached out for the handle.
bang!
Suddenly the window shattered and the car body sank.
Jae-jae, who had been covering his face with both arms to block the glass shards, raised his head.
An infected person who jumped from a high building was lying on the ground, his car smashed into pieces.
To make matters worse, people were also rushing to the intersection across the street, being chased by the infected.
I had to find a high place quickly.
If guys are going to fly from high floors and fall to the ground, wouldn’t it be safer to be higher up?
It was a pretty compelling idea.
But something was a bit strange.
This was Seoul.
In the middle of the capital of South Korea, unidentified monsters are killing people, and there are no police or soldiers in sight?
‘Is this a dream?’
My efforts to avoid panicking were in vain.
I started hearing tinnitus and my breathing started getting faster.
‘Okay, let’s go up first.’
Jae-jae, who was trying hard to suppress the rising nausea, ran into the building in front of him.
Inside, on the other hand, people were running out.
It was okay though.
No matter what happened, it seemed like the rooftop would be safer than outside.
Finance standing in front of the elevator.
The elevator in the high-rise building, which was over 10 stories high, was coming down from the 8th floor.
The screams filling the streets were getting closer and closer.
Boom! Boom!
The sound of bumping and shaking inside the elevator could be heard all the way to the first floor where Jae-jae was standing.
It was clear what was going on inside.
At that moment, Beomsik entered the building covered in red blood.
“I don’t think that’s a very good idea.”
Beom-sik looked at the numbers on the scoreboard, muttered while brushing past Jae-jae, and ran up the stairs.
“Oh my… … .”
Jae-jae, who was looking up at the scoreboard once again, had no choice but to follow Beom-sik.
Because the screams of a living person were leaking out from inside the elevator.
The problems didn’t stop there.
No matter how good a detective he was or how skilled a gangster he was in the ring, he was powerless against a staircase that was more than 10 stories high.
By the time they reached the 8th floor, both of their thighs were reaching their limits to the point of cramping.
If I had just adjusted my pace a little, I would have been able to get to the rooftop without too much trouble.
But now, life is in danger.
I ran recklessly from the beginning to the end, as fast as I could, and my muscles started cramping.
‘When on earth is the rooftop coming out?’
As the two men began to swear and curse, two flights of stairs appeared in succession, and a door leading to the rooftop appeared.
Unlike when they started, Jaejae arrived first and turned the handle with his large hands.
Clank clank―
But the tightly locked door only made a clinking sound and would not open.
The infected people were not rushing right up to our noses.
Still, I couldn’t help but feel anxious.
“Get out of the way!”
As Jae-jae stood there, struggling with the handle, Beom-sik shouted while catching his breath.
In the meantime, he had brought the fire extinguisher that was placed on the landing of the lower floor.
Boom! Boom! Crunch!
After several attempts, the handle broke completely, and the lock fell off with it.
The two of them went up to the rooftop without saying who would go first.
Is it because it is far from the ground?
The rooftop was strangely quiet.
The gap between what had just happened and what had happened before felt like a dream.
The sound of sirens and people screaming felt distant, like watching a fire across a river.
While Jae-jae was sticking his head out of the wall, Beom-sik and I blocked the rooftop door with abandoned outdoor equipment and office furniture.
“Shall we do this together?”
“I think I’ve done everything, but what?”
Finance answered without even looking back.
Then Beomsik, who had been blocking the door, walked over to the side.
The two looked down, keeping some distance from each other.
The sight was quite awkward, as if strangers were all looking down from the rooftop for different reasons.
Anyway, now the two of them have a clear understanding of the situation.
The police and military that Finance was looking for had not disappeared.
They were already all over the city, abandoned and without owners.
The roads were jam-packed with cars, reminiscent of Gangnam at Christmas.
However, the only difference is that it is an empty car without a driver.
The view of Seoul, spread out like a checkerboard, was neither in ruins nor in ruins.
It was literally in progress, collapsing and turning into ruins.
Even as the two looked down, the city was slowly losing its vitality.
Here and there, smoke rose along with the sound of explosions.
And we see the desperate flight of survivors trying to escape from the infected who have taken over the streets.
Bang! Bang!
The sound of gunfire, unrealistic to hear in Korea, could be heard faintly high in the sky.
Finance let out a long sigh and took a deep breath.
It wasn’t because I ran up the stairs.
My breathing naturally became ragged in front of the unacceptable sight.
It was the same for Beomsik, as he stood there with his large, long hand resting on his forehead.
The two of them looked down at the city view for a while without saying a word.
I took out my smartphone just in case, and all that was displayed was the message, “Base station disconnected.”
“What the heck… is going on?”
Beomsik said, zooming in on the angle of his smartphone camera.
The infected person on the screen flew away as soon as he saw the survivor.
And then he started biting everything he could get his hands on.
If there was more than one infected person, another one would perform an incredibly cruel act of ripping open the stomach with his fingertips from below.
What was peculiar was that once the prey died, it stopped attacking.
He left it there as if it were discarded food.
If it’s running, it’s running. If it’s strength, it’s strength.
Physically, nothing could defeat the infected.
Even cars driving on the sidewalk occasionally had to stop, emitting black smoke, because of the infected people hanging in groups.
When an infected person who had been thrown grabbed onto the car’s muffler, dozens of people grabbed onto them and fell behind them, creating a long human rope.
Eventually, the car, unable to withstand the weight, came to a stop, and the driver inside was buried by the infected with the sound of glass shattering.
They were monsters that chased bigger stimuli, bigger sounds.
Even when he was dissecting a person alive, he would change his target without hesitation when he heard the sound of a car.
Beomsik, who was watching this scene, spoke up.
“I know it sounds ridiculous… but no matter how much I look at it, I can’t think of anything else besides zombies.”
“Don’t worry. You’re not the only one who thinks that way.”
Jaejae nodded in agreement.
It was clear that anyone who saw it would be able to think of nothing else.
This is a situation where mutated people bite living people, and the bitten people die and rise again just like them, repeating the cycle.
“Since I’m looking at it from above… … .”
“It feels unrealistic. Me too.”
He continued with the words of a common man whose finances were clouded.
After I began to accept the situation to some extent, realistic problems began to arise in my mind.
Neither of them were in a position to just sit back and watch others die without saying a word.
“I can’t stay here forever… Can’t I go over to the building next door?”
Beomsik looked around.
The nearest building was at least a few meters away from where the two were standing.
Looking at the empty space under the railing, I didn’t have the courage to go over even if they laid down a metal plate.
“What difference does it make if you move? The only thing that changes is the building. And don’t keep asking me questions. Even if we leave here, you and I will go our separate ways. You should be thankful that we are together without any trouble.”
“Who knows that I like salty food… … .”
There was an unspeakable animosity between the two.
And that hostility was especially strong in finance.
Whatever it was, it didn’t seem simple.
Even if it was once a chase-and-be-chased relationship, such complicated feelings would not have arisen.
“Fuck… This is chaos and not a single helicopter is taking off.”
Beomsik looked up at the dark night sky and swore.
“Would you mind? If you had the presence of mind to fly a helicopter, you would have come in a tank and wiped them all out… … .”
That was when.
Doo doo doo doo doo doo!
As if hearing their conversation, the sound of a helicopter began to be heard from somewhere in the night sky.
The sound that had been heard from far away gradually got closer, and soon appeared behind a high-rise building.
A man carrying a camera on his shoulder and a woman holding a microphone were seen inside the helicopter.
It was clear that it came from a broadcasting station.
Behind it, a military helicopter that appeared to be a transport aircraft was also flying.
Are they trying to rescue the survivors gathered on the rooftop?
“Over here! Over here!”
When Jae-jae shouted, Beom-sik also jumped up and down and waved his arms as if he had been waiting for it.
‘Does it work?’
The camera, which had been circling the skyscraper and filming the ground, turned to the rooftop where the two people were standing.
At that sight, the two of them fought even more fiercely than before.
This was especially true because there was no hope of rescue until the helicopters showed up.
“It’s coming! It’s coming!”
I was excited to see the helicopter changing direction of finance.
Beomsik was equally excited.
Although there was a bit of a crisis, I made it to the rooftop safely, and if I could just be rescued, I could have a drink with today as an appetizer later.
Zombies are just a bunch of crap that will be wiped out once the army arrives.
But their expectations were spectacularly wrong.
The helicopters that were flying with their lights on passed the two people and flew away somewhere.
The cameraman didn’t forget to film the two people even for a fleeting moment.
It literally became a short news story.
The faces of the two people who had been running wild were clearly filled with disappointment.
Why do I feel bitter about the two helicopters heading to Yeouido?
“I guess he’s going to invite some high-ranking officials.”
“Whoa! Fuck, you dirty little bastards.”
Beomsik, who was swearing, kicked the can.
The picture is roughly drawn.
The camera probably didn’t capture the current situation, but rather to distinguish between someone who must be alive and an ordinary person.
The transport plane behind it might have been a dedicated helicopter to transport him or them to safety.
Looking at the angry Beomsik, Jaejae tried to clear his mind.
I knew better than anyone that there was nothing left to gain by constantly dwelling on the past.
“That doesn’t mean there’s an answer.”
Jae-jae, who had lit a cigarette, looked down and muttered to himself.
The infected were moving in swarms, filling the entire city.
The number of people running between buildings and along roads reached into the hundreds of thousands.
“Follow the sound of the helicopter.”
Beomsik muttered while looking at Yeouido across the river.
Infected people
