Infected - Chapter 6
Only Noblemtl
Episode 5
“They’re coming at us like a pack of dogs. They’re all zombies. So this is what’s happening now… … .”
Beomsik said with a blank expression.
As soon as they heard the sound of the helicopter, they all ran in the same direction.
Although a few who broke away from the ranks scattered here and there, the majority continued on their way.
While I was just looking around for a while, I heard an unfamiliar scream.
As the infected disappeared in droves, survivors who had been hiding came out into the streets and met with disaster.
In that situation, there was one man who particularly caught the attention of the two people.
Beomsik quickly increased the camera’s magnification.
The person who caught my eye was a middle-aged man wearing a red hat.
A man running out of a building with a gun shop sign was holding a long machete in his hand.
As he came out onto the street, the remaining infected people who had been wandering around started to come running one by one.
Finance wanted to turn its head.
Because I could clearly see what the next scene would be like.
But soon, the mouths of the two people watching him opened wide.
A middle-aged man with a gray beard took care of three infected people in an instant.
The infected who was running in front was slammed into the wall as soon as the man twisted his body slightly.
Then, using the force of his twisted body returning, he mercilessly cut off the neck of the man following him.
Crunch!
That wasn’t the end.
As he turned around, the infected who had hit the wall jumped up.
The moment the creature tried to leap up onto the ground, the machete passed over the infected man, cutting off his neck without fail.
The last one, running from afar, collided with his beheaded comrade, lost his balance, and crossed the Jordan River.
That was the end.
A scene without any unnecessary details, as if the scenario had been planned out.
The two of them had expressions on their faces as if their brains had stopped.
‘Who the hell is that guy?’
Who could possibly display such unbelievable fighting prowess?
And he was middle-aged, with a gray beard.
The man crossed the street and approached the building where the two people were.
After that, it was impossible to check because of the angle of the railing.
“Seeing that reminds me of something. Did you… go to the military?”
Beomsik looked down at the infected person lying around with his neck cut off and asked.
“Uh, why?”
“If we wait here, the military will come to rescue us, right? We’re not the only survivors. Well, if we look down from a military satellite or something, they’ll be able to see the current situation. Then they’ll come in large numbers and solve the problem, right? There’s more than one or two military bases in our country.”
“Oh, are you a minor?”
As Jae-jae spoke sarcastically again, Beom-sik’s facial muscles contorted in a pleasing manner.
“I’m not in the mood to play with you, so just ask or answer.”
“Well… Well, it’s such an old memory. But usually, we’ll go in the direction of quickly resolving the situation with as many troops and firepower as possible. Probably.”
“But why aren’t you here yet?”
“Well? The higher-ups must be busy thinking and deciding. The military is a top-down system. So, the top gives orders and the bottom absolutely obeys, just like you guys. Oh, we’re similar. Anyway, the military never moves without orders. There’s no flexibility at all. Well… It’s complicated. It’s hard to explain everything to someone like you who hasn’t served in the military.”
Beomsik nodded surprisingly calmly.
“Yeah. If something seems strange to me, even though I’m not a military veteran, then there must be a really big problem. Monsters are slaughtering citizens in the capital of the Republic of Korea, and no one is coming to catch them. No one is coming to catch them. The rest are all dead. Well, that’s a possible conclusion. Unless, as you said, the higher-ups are just wasting their time thinking.”
“What kind of bully speaks so noble?”
Jaejae, who had been listening blankly, asked.
Well, Beomsik’s speech and gestures did not have even a hint of the image of a gangster that people usually think of.
He even had the feel of a professional.
Although there were small scars here and there, her flawless, pale face and long, slender body made her look even more so.
“Why? Can’t a gangster be elegant?”
“I didn’t say you were elegant. Just act like you guys. That’s not elegant at all… It doesn’t suit you.”
“You look like a gangster. Should I tell you what kind of kids I hate the most?”
“No, I’m not curious.”
Finance shook his head quickly.
“Those kids who go around with ‘gangster’ written on their faces. Those greenhorns who start out by getting tattoos on their bodies before they start their mentality. And… … .”
“I said everything I wanted to say. Don’t ask questions.”
Beomsik continued to speak, ignoring Jaejae who interrupted him from time to time.
“People who look like you are vicious. Of course, there are many good people who look different from their appearance. But you are not like that. You have no elegance, no elegance. You fight like a calf, and you just push through with force.”
“What do you want to say?”
“Nothing in particular. I just remembered that you told me earlier not to pretend to be righteous, that you hate that type of people the most. I just wanted to tell you about the types of people I hate.”
“Are you done? Anything to say?”
Beomsik nodded.
Why do I feel a sense of relief somewhere?
Well, there won’t be another chance for the detective and I to badmouth each other so openly like this.
If not now, then when will I be able to talk about this comfortably?
While Beomsik was thinking about this and that, Jaeyi’s mind was only on the middle-aged man.
My first impression of the finances was like this.
The man seemed to calculate and move as if he had prepared in advance.
It feels like you either knew this was going to happen or you’ve been through similar situations countless times before.
Even though the infected had mutated, they still had human form.
Even though it rips open a person’s stomach and bites off their throat, it still has the appearance of a human.
So, no matter how much of a monster it was, it was not easy to cut off its head.
It’s not some kind of martial arts novel.
Moreover, such a simple movement.
It was confusing.
If you want to get off this rooftop and down, you’ll have to act like that too.
I stared blankly at Beomsik, who was looking outside.
That gangs were that they would act so much that they would remain.
At least in the eyes of finance, that’s how it was.
In that case, all that was needed was to properly set one’s mind on finances.
It’s just a human figure.
It has the appearance of a human, but is not a human.
If you don’t kill me, I die.
Several resolutions passed through Jae-jae’s mind.
It can’t be a dream.
It was so vivid for a dream.
If it was a dream, it was a realistic dream that would allow me to beat up the police and produce a drama or movie.
“What are you thinking about?”
Beomsik asked.
“Just because it’s funny.”
“what?”
“Will you listen if I talk?”
“That’s why I’m asking. Why are humans so twisted? The police… … .”
“Go ahead and swear. Once the situation is sorted out, I’ll catch you and throw you in the trash first.”
“For what charge?”
Beomsik asked with a snicker.
“Defamation, obstruction of official duties, there are many more to list.”
“I understand it’s defamation, but what’s behind it?”
“That’s just because your presence makes me uncomfortable. Because it interferes with the performance of official duties.”
“Okay, go ahead and do it. I’ll even turn myself in if you just let me get out alive.”
“Are you serious? What you said?”
The eyes of finance have widened.
“Okay, answer the question. What were you thinking just now? You’re diverting the topic unnecessarily.”
“Isn’t that even a point? This is ridiculous.”
“Detectives and gangsters are all the same.”
“Even idioms? They really are all sorts of things.”
Finances burst into laughter.
And then he stared quietly somewhere in the night sky.
It looks like he’s trying to say something.
“If we get out of here alive or rescued, let’s live like human beings. You and me.”
“Isn’t that something you only say when you’re dying?”
“Are you sure you can do it like that old man? You were almost like a robot.”
At Jae-ui’s words, Beom-sik crossed his arms and thought.
“Well… I’m not confident to that extent, but I won’t just sit back and let it happen. If you come near me, I’ll kill you no matter what. Why? You’re not confident?”
“Where is the issue of confidence or not? It’s just George.”
After that, the conversation stopped completely.
Finance was lost in thought, and Beomsik was busy observing the situation on the ground.
How much time has passed like that?
It felt like an hour or two had passed.
After enduring a long time on the rooftop, I was slowly starting to feel thirsty.
Jae-jae, who had been licking his lips, followed Beom-sik’s gaze and looked around the building.
Unlike the front of the rooftop, which had a view of the street, the side had a clear view of other buildings.
Some buildings were on fire, while others had as many as fifteen people crowded onto the rooftops.
Finance found a woman at a similar height in the building right next door.
The woman, dressed in a suit and standing against the glass, looked around, and soon her eyes met Jae-jae’s.
A close distance, less than twenty meters.
The two read each other’s eyes.
An anxious look, a mixture of fear and dread.
Beomsik, who had followed Jaeyui’s gaze, was quietly watching as if he had discovered the woman.
The woman who had been looking back and forth between inside and outside anxiously suddenly looked back in surprise.
The two men quickly followed her gaze.
The complex office scene created by dozens of partitions, beyond which the doors blocked by desks and furniture were being smashed apart.
People tried to block it somehow, but the light door made of plywood was shattered in an instant.
After several attempts at sticking a black arm through the broken gap, one infected person finally succeeded in sticking his head in and entered the office.
Starting with that, the number of infected people entering the building rapidly increased.
People ran between office partitions to avoid the infected.
After that, the infected jumped in irregularly, destroying everything in sight.
Red blood splattered everywhere in the white office.
The woman, who had nowhere else to retreat to, stood with her back to the glass window.
As her dying comrades began to mutate, the woman leaned out the window.
Finance took a deep breath.
Because it seemed like the woman might fall down at any moment.
I wanted to help, but there was only space between the woman and the two people.
The woman, who had managed to climb up onto a chair and get her legs out the window, was left standing precariously on the outer wall of the building, holding onto the window frame.
The infected who saw this sight opened their mouths like crazy and clung to the glass.
They were like leeches desperate to suck blood.
The comrades who had been surviving together until just now had turned into infected people and were rushing at me with their ties fluttering.
The woman, who saw a crack in the glass window, moved with a crab-like gait to the next window.
pop!
As she reached the side window, the cracked glass shattered.
The infected, who had smashed the glass with their entire bodies, fell into the darkness, screaming.
The woman was sobbing.
The sobbing was so loud that even Jae-jae and Beom-sik, who were on the roof of the next building, could clearly hear the sound mixed with screams.
The moment Jae-jae, who could not stand to watch, was about to shout something, the woman’s body was thrown into the air again with the sound of glass breaking.
In that brief moment, Jae-jae’s eyes met the woman’s.
It was a look of despair, foolishness, and resentment mixed together.
And so the woman disappeared into the darkness, along with countless shards of glass.
