Episode 50.
The next day, at the KSH Holdings office, Lim Kyung-jun was receiving a call from someone in front of the monitor.
“Okay, I’ll check it out.”
The cursor moved. The screen changed. I saw a new transaction of about 30,000 BTC with my own eyes. It was clean, down to the decimal point.
It was the largest chunk of the recently acquired stock.
‘Isn’t this totally awesome?’
I just whetted my appetite.
I watched the match between Alphaduk and Kehai a while ago. I don’t know much about baduk, but I knew that Alphaduk was on our side. I rooted for him from the bottom of my heart.
I was thrilled to see them win 5-0.
That was good enough, but then suddenly I got 30,000 BTC. Good things happen all at once. I wasn’t really curious about the source. I felt like I was flying.
The only noise in the office was the clicking of mice.
“Why didn’t the representative (Lee Jong-suk) go?”
Lim Kyung-jun suddenly asked.
“where?”
“It’s the Alpha Duck after-party. Mr. Kang asked me in the elevator earlier. Why didn’t the two of us come?”
“I just didn’t go. What about you, Deputy Director Lim?”
“What other reason could there be? It’s because of this, you know.”
He pointed to the screen.
“The CEO (Kang Si-hyeon) is really meticulous. He even takes care of things that the two of us didn’t do.”
He stretched out his body, which had been curled up until now. His joints screamed. Lee Jong-suk nodded.
“That must be so.”
“Isn’t that amazing? That must not be easy.”
“It looks easy when you look at it from the side. Doesn’t it?”
“That’s right. Someone once said that a master is someone who can make difficult things easy. You are truly a master. Well, just looking at the stocks you trade, that’s enough.”
Lim Kyung-jun stuck out his tongue as he looked at the red-tinted portfolio.
The phone rang.
“Yes, this is KSH Lim Kyung-jun.”
– That’s the investment company of CEO Kang Si-Hyeon of Cocoa, right? This is the Google Korea strategy team.
Why Google all of a sudden?
“That’s right, but why is that?”
– It’s because of a direct order from Chairman Eric Schumpeter. He wants 50,000 BTC of Bitcoin paid to you. If you tell me your wallet address, I will send the transaction right away.
Lim Kyung-jun’s mouth opened when he heard those words.
It’s unbelievable. I don’t know, but it must be because of CEO Kang. Even if I try to collect 80,000 BTC, it takes me a week at the most. Some people can do it with two phone calls.
Isn’t this what it means to be a master?
‘But what on earth is the reason?’
I have no intention of turning down the offer, but I am curious.
“What’s going on?”
Lee Jong-suk asked. But even after hanging up the phone, Im Kyung-jun remained lost in thought for a long time without answering.

Word spread that it was the Alpha Duck Shock.
[ Who is the only one to win 3 games out of 14,566 private map matches? ······ The representative of humanity was Lee Sam-jin, not Kahai! ]
[ Lee 9-dan, ‘I am grateful for the expression ‘Alpha Dook Master’, but I am embarrassed.’······ I will disclose all my winning records for the sake of the next generation. ]
‘The PR team is doing a good job.’
In preparation for Kehai’s media play, a press release was quickly distributed. Thanks to this, the popularity of Lee Sam-jin, 9th Dan, also rose.
dripping,
The door opened. People came in.
“Welcome.”
It was the first meeting after the challenge ended. Lee Jong-suk took the lead.
“Let me start by saying this. Google Chairman Schumpeter and Maidu Chairman Li Hongyan sent congratulatory gifts.”
“Congratulatory money?”
“Yes, that’s all you said.”
It was a completely out of the blue statement from the beginning. I opened my mouth wide.
“How much exactly?”
A loud noise came out.
“I received it in Bitcoin. The amount is around 80,000 BTC.”
“So how much is that? Eighty thousand dollars?”
“Hey, how could that be? (He waved his hand.) The current market price is just under $400, so you can think of it as being around $30 million.”
Those words surprised even the other people present.
‘shit.’
I cursed inwardly.
The face of Eric Schumpeter, whom I had seen at the event, flashed before my eyes. He had an expression on his face, as if he was hiding something. Now that I think about it, it seems like he was hinting at some kind of bet. I heard it through the interpreter.
It’s not a ‘receive’, it’s a ‘bet’. I thought it was asking me to pay money.
But it was the opposite.
It was disappointing. It was no other place. It was Google. It’s a company that dominates the world in many areas of IT.
They are also unrivaled in the field of M&A. They acquire ten or twenty startups a year. So I trusted them like a rock, but I got a huge blow to the back of my head.
“If it’s Bitcoin, there’s no need to pay taxes.”
An oblivious manager added a word.
There was silence for a moment. Everyone looked at my expression. Next, Yoo Jae-hong opened his mouth.
“I also have something to report.”
“Go ahead.”
“The conversation with the SBC executive I met at the Alphaduk after-party is going well. This is the first contract, so I plan to work with Cocoa Cloud CEO Hong Jeong-tae to proceed. As soon as the SBC project is completed, all work will be transferred to Jeju Island.”
I did something. It’s another story about making money.
“I see. Thank you for your hard work.”
My face darkened noticeably. Director Han cautiously spoke.
“Lastly, I have something to say about ASW Korea.”
“ASW?”
“Yes, Amazon Service Web. It’s a cloud company like Cocoa Cloud. It’s also the Korean branch of Amazon.”
Now that you mention it, I remember.
“Why? They give you money there too?”
“No, that’s not true. I think ASW was shocked by this incident. It seems they’re going to accelerate the construction of a data center that they’ve been pushing since the beginning of the year. They call it Area. There are two in Japan, Tokyo and Osaka, but this is the first in Korea.”
“is it so?”
“Because it’s Amazon, I think it will definitely be built much larger than our Jeju Island Cloud Center.”
It was good news for the first time.
“We need to prepare.”
Everyone became tense at those words. Yoo Jae-hong suddenly opened his mouth.
“It is not easy for us to be ahead of Amazon in terms of technology or capital. However, we cannot ignore the fact that this is our country. The cloud market is large in the private sector, but the public sector also has a large portion. I think it would be a good countermeasure if we shift our positioning to public cloud even now.”
He also pointed out that our Jeju Island center is geographically disadvantaged.
His words were as follows:

Our CDC’s power consumption has already exceeded one-tenth of the entire Jeju Island. It’s still early days, but it’s already like that. He added that if this trend continues, it could soon exceed the entire Jeju Island’s power consumption.
“Then why haven’t you told me until now?”
“I didn’t expect it to get this big. I thought it would be enough for the Jeju Center to just play a captive role.”
Captive refers to intra-group transactions.
“Then there is only one way.”
My face finally brightened. Yoo Jae-hong nodded. He misunderstood that his opinion had been accepted.
“We need to build another data center. Not somewhere close by like Jeju Island. Like Google or Facebook, in Finland or Sweden······.”
“That won’t do!”
Han Jang-su shouted.
“I said that I had to listen to the Korean language until the end.”
I stopped him.
“If we can’t build it in Finland or Sweden (I actually thought we could build it), couldn’t we build it in Gangwon-do like Naver? What do you all think?”
This time, Google was the answer. I was a little upset because of the surprise gift, but there is no better partner than Google.
“Anyway, not right now. Take your time and think about it.”
“······.”
There was no answer to what I said.

ASW Korea CEO Ben Kim heard a shocking story.
‘If you keep coming out like this, we’ll have to find another way. Amazon isn’t the only cloud provider in Korea.’
SBC changed its tune.
I thought I had caught all the fish, but I was wrong. I ended up losing a powerful contract partner while sitting down.
This was also said of Cocoa, which was not considered a competitor.
Most of Amazon’s sales come from commerce.
However, operating profit was mostly driven by the cloud business, which accounted for only a small portion of sales. This was the reason why overseas expansion was important.
Korea is not even my home.
Among the public and private sectors, the public sector had to be abandoned. The wall was high. That’s why contracts with private companies were more important. It was something that had to be won, but Cocoa suddenly stepped in and put on the brakes.
dripping.
“Come in.”
The secretary came in and spoke.
“Amazing Japan’s President Niki Huang is waiting to call you. What should I do?”
“Please connect me.”
Amazon Japan was the representative company of Asia Pacific. It was responsible for 10% of Amazon International’s sales. It was on a different level from ASW Korea. Although it was not a superior-subordinate relationship, it was not a place that could be ignored.
Even Chairman Jeff Vegas condoned Amadon Japan’s interference.
– Ben! How have you been?
It’s a voice I always feel but don’t want to hear.
“Nikki, it’s been a while.”
– I heard the news. You got hit with a big one by a company called Cocoa or Latte or something? Haha.
Have you heard the news yet?
“I don’t know what you heard, but it’s not that bad.”
– Hey, is that about it?
“But why did you call me? Oh, of course it’s not because I’m annoyed.”
I quickly stated my business and hung up, forcing myself to suppress the words that were on the tip of my tongue.
– It’s nothing special.
She paused for a moment and then began to speak.
– Speaking of the area where the area is being built. There is a site secured in Gangwon-do, right? Is it about 50,000 square meters?
“It’s exactly 45,211 square meters.”
– I’m not suggesting we play with numbers or anything. I think we need to move. Is that possible?
The bolt from the blue struck once again.
“Huh? Why all of a sudden?”
Ben unconsciously let out a sound like air was being released from his balloon.
– Don’t you know that I’m the head of the Asia Pacific region? I just do what I’m told, so why do you have so much to say?
“But there has to be a reason······.”
– Do I really need a reason? Okay. Let me tell you. I heard that place is not good in terms of Feng Shui. Is there anything more important than the location of a data center?
“But, Nikki. Not for that reason.”
– Don’t touch the soil.
Nikki Huang was really annoyed.
– Who will Jeff believe more? Ben or me? Let’s not give up.
After hanging up the phone, Ben sat there blankly for a while.
Her last words lingered in my ears.
‘I have a lunch appointment with Chairman Son of Loftbank, so I’ll take my leave now.’
After a while, I got up.
I had to tell the department in charge. That’s when everything went back to square one.
‘What about the land?’
It was a piece of land that had been acquired with difficulty. I was really annoyed at the thought of having to sell off this golden land in such a good location.
* * *
It was almost the end of 2014.
‘What should I do with this?’
Pangku CEO Lee Seok-hwan was in deep thought. He received a call from Loft Bank’s Son Byeong-hwa not long ago.
It was an investment proposal.
That’s not something to worry about. He had already received investments of 100 billion won or 200 billion won from places like Blackrock and Atos. But this time, he couldn’t help but worry. 1.5 billion dollars is an amount that would make even Seongsam Lee Yongjae’s eyes roll, not to mention Lee Seok-hwan.
‘It’s just to the extent of taking over the company.’
I had no intention of selling it.
After much thought, he picked up his phone. He looked for the number of Lee Chung-jae, who had stepped down from his position as chairman of the board of directors and was now a member of the wild.
The beep didn’t go off even a few times.
-What’s going on, Seok-Hwan?
“I have something I’d like to ask you privately. Would it be okay if I spoke to you?”
If it was Lee Chung-jae, I could trust him and ask him. He was not the kind of person who would go around and spread the word. (He had no one to spread the word to.)
It only took a few minutes to tell the whole story.
– It’s nothing to worry about.
Lee Chung-jae’s answer, given after much thought, surprised Lee Seok-hwan.
“What should I do?”
– Start preparing for a US corporation now and keep in mind a NASDAQ listing. It may not take 1-2 years, but you need to prepare right away so that it is not too late.
“yes?”
His subsequent explanation was simple.
– In the US, there is something called a differential voting rights system. It is a method commonly used by companies like Google and Palantir. It is the only way to have more than 50% of the voting rights even with less than 10% of the shares. If this is the only way, Son Byung-hwa will not be able to eat Pangku even with 2 billion or 3 billion dollars, let alone 1 billion dollars.
Lee Chung-jae thought quietly.
‘We can protect the company from people like Son Byeong-hwa with differential voting rights. But can we really protect it from the clutches of ‘that guy’?’
The scent of tea filled the room. I picked up the cup and brought it to my lips. Winter had come, but the room was warm.
The green tea flavor tasted sweet.
