My Younger Sister Was My First Love - My Younger Sister Was My First Love chapter 75
75. A Suitable Person
A mock test paper made by a home-based business.
In the living room, a single set of bookshelves, commonly found in any school, was neatly arranged.
A complete full set that could be prepared at home.
I was secretly impressed by my planning skills.
“Are you nervous?”
The only test-taker, my sibling, was sitting on the sofa, frantically flipping through their science notes.
“A little?”
The atmosphere was clearly different from their usual confident attitude.
It seemed that my previous warnings about this being a turning point had taken effect.
“I don’t know about anything else, but if I fail Korean this time, I’ll really get angry.”
“You always get 100 points, don’t you? Isn’t it weird for a teacher to be so obsessed with a student?”
The note closed with a snap.
Ji-hee stuck out her lip and looked up at me.
“People who always get 100 points can also slip up in the college entrance exam. Don’t be arrogant and review. I don’t know about others, but people who get into Korea University through the exam all do that.”
There might be geniuses who can solve everything at once.
But in my opinion, nine out of ten Korea University students didn’t do that.
“Hmm.”
When Jihee heard the words “Korea’s representative,” she finally reacted.
It was a moment when I clearly felt that Jihee was greatly stimulated by Minwoo.
“Okay, I’ll do it. If Oppa wants to take a CC with me, I’ll do it.”
“But if you really do, and you enter our school, I’ll have to go to the military right away.”
Of course, even if it wasn’t Jihee, I was vaguely thinking that I shouldn’t go to the military at 2nd grade.
“No way. Absolutely no way.”
Jihee shook her head fiercely.
“I really won’t let Oppa go next year!”
“But it’s inevitable. You’ll have to go eventually. I’ve heard that it’s better to go later, anyway.”
“Are you crazy? That means I’ll be wearing rubber shoes right after entering college!”
Rubber shoes.
A term used to describe someone who sends their lover to the military.
When I heard this word from my younger sibling’s mouth, it felt very strange.
“What’s wrong with that? It’s just a family member going to the military.”
“What if Dad has to stay in the US for another year?”
“I didn’t think about that.”
I heard that Dad’s overseas assignment is divided into one-year units.
At least, he’ll be in the US until next spring.
It’s said that we’ll have to see how long he’ll stay there then.
He said he’ll come back, but…
If he really gets extended for another year… Hmm.
“Oppa, imagine your beloved younger sibling living alone in this big house for a year without anyone. Isn’t it pitiful? You’ll be sending me KakaoTalk messages and calling me every day, saying you miss me, and I’ll be lying on the sofa, biting my nails.”
“Time’s up! Bring me a sign pen!”
I decided to put off listening to Jihee’s imaginative tantrum.
I flipped over the prepared test paper, checked the time, and handed the answer card to Jihee.
“Jihee.”
“Yes?”
“Good luck.”
“Yes!”
As Jihee’s sharp pencil began to move, I felt a very tedious and long supervisory time had begun.
I thought about the situation Jihee mentioned earlier.
If Dad’s business trip gets extended…
What if it’s not just 1 or 2 years, but several years?
Do I have to go to the US?
It seemed more reasonable for us, who have vacations, to go to the US instead of calling busy Dad back to Korea.
Maybe Mom will come back to Korea for a month or so.
It would be too cruel to not see me for years, worrying Mom like that.
I spent an hour thinking about the uncertain future ahead.
Thanks to the morning, the first class ended quickly.
It was good news that Jihee had finished everything, but she didn’t get up, lying down instead.
“I didn’t sleep!”
As soon as the test was over, Ji-hui rushed towards me like a high school student reflexively jumping out of their seat.
“You did well.”
“What’s with the sarcasm? You were so worked up about not reviewing, and now you’re giving me a half-hearted compliment?”
“It’s only natural as a test-taker. And I did praise you, didn’t I?”
“Ugh.”
I was about to take the answer sheet and head back to my room, but I was taken aback by Ji-hui’s next action.
-THWACK!
A crisp, slapping sound echoed through the air as Ji-hui’s hand made contact with my skin.
It was a prank that boys would often play on each other in high school, but now it was being carried out by my younger sister.
“Hey! You!”
“Why? You’re being annoying, so I gave you a slap on the butt!”
I was left speechless, and Ji-hui was blowing air out of her mouth, looking like she was asking what the big deal was.
I was worried that if I let this slide, she would do it again anytime, so I held up my index finger in warning.
“Don’t do that. I told you not to do that. That’s sexual harassment.”
“Ah, it’s just a joke. What’s the big deal between siblings? And if it was really sexual harassment, wouldn’t I have gotten in trouble for it already?”
Ji-hui’s response was so typical of a troublemaker that I couldn’t help but roll my eyes.
“Hey, jokes are fine when they’re mutual and don’t make the other person feel bad.”
I shouldn’t have said that, though.
My brain was racing, but I had to pay the price with my body.
Ji-hui grasped the desk with both hands, bent her waist, and slightly lifted her legs to accentuate her hips and butt.
She then turned her head towards me, her gaze fixed on mine.
“Let’s try it, then.”
Her signature sly laughter sent shivers down my spine.
“What are you doing?”
“You slap my butt too. I’ll tell you if it feels good or bad.”
“I’m leaving.”
As I tried to brush off Ji-hui’s joke, she grabbed my wrist with a loud thud.
“Are you going to do it or not?”
“It’s not my job to slap your butt.”
“Aren’t you a big brother who always gets hit and never hits back? You’re not a real big brother if you don’t discipline me properly when needed?”
Ji-hui explained, still sporting an innocent-looking smile that could melt anyone’s heart.
“There must be some pent-up frustration in you. Just one slap, and I’ll let it go.”
Ji-hui’s left hand gently patted her own butt twice.
“If I don’t get it here, I’ll come after you and slap your butt next.”
I was caught off guard, and now I was at a crossroads.
Option 1: Ignore it and walk away.
2. Get punished once and for all.
My favorite girl.
And she’s my younger sister, to boot.
That’s just too much.
– Bam!
“Ow!”
I hit Jihee’s butt with all my might.
I didn’t feel any weird emotions at all.
It was almost like corporal punishment, I thought.
Jihee looked like a kid who got scolded by an adult, her eyes wide open in shock, unable to say a word.
“You were told not to do that.”
“…Why? Why did you hit me so hard?”
“If you have any complaints, then take them out on me.”
“No… but… did you really have to hit me that hard? You like me, don’t you? Who hits their favorite girl’s butt like that?”
Jihee was really hurt, rubbing her butt with both hands.
I felt a pang of guilt amidst my anger.
Ugh, can’t we just maintain a decent atmosphere on test days?
Hitting my sister’s butt and running away, what kind of brother am I?
I was also disqualified from being an adult.
“Does it hurt a lot?”
“Yeah, it feels bruised. Can you take a look, oppa?”
When Jihee tried to take off her pants right there, I quickly grabbed her wrists with both hands.
“Later. After the test is over, you can check it out in the bathroom.”
“Ow…”
Honestly, I did hit her hard, but I didn’t think it would leave a bruise.
But then again, our bodies are different, so who knows?
“Sigh…”
The situation was just sigh-worthy.
“Anyway, got it? Let’s stop this kind of nonsense from now on.”
“If you’re willing to hit me a little softer next time, I’m okay with it.”
“I’ll hit you twice as hard next time.”
“That’s domestic violence!”
Jihee retorted, still rubbing her butt.
After collecting the answer sheets and test papers, we moved on to the next tests.
Math. English. Korean History. Exploratory subjects.
Today was the day I was determined to take the Exploratory subjects seriously.
Since we’ve covered the entire curriculum, there shouldn’t be any topics we haven’t learned.
“Wow!”
4:37 PM.
All the exams were over.
“You did well.”
I finally overcame my drowsiness and stood up, stretching my arms and legs.
“How was it? Did you do well?”
Jihee rubbed her eyes and prepared for the immediate grading, scratching the back of her neck with a puzzled expression.
“Hmm… compared to last time? Korean was the same, math had more solvable problems, and English was… I don’t know. English was just like that. There were some confusing questions in the science section, though.”
I told Jihee not to look, but this 6th-grade mock test was generally considered to be very difficult.
Especially Korean and math were extremely tough, and I was really curious about how the results would turn out.
“I’ll start grading right away.”
I took out all the answer sheets I had collected and began checking the scores in my room.
Korean: 100.
Was Jihee really a god in Korean?
Considering the 1st-grade cut-off score was 84, it was an astonishing score.
Math: 68.
She barely made it to the 3rd-grade cut-off.
English: 72.
Since it was an absolute evaluation, scoring above 70 would put her in the 3rd grade.
In summary, Jihee’s grades in Korean, math, and English were 1, 3, and 3, respectively.
If this were the actual CSAT, she would have easily gotten into a top-tier university.
And she achieved this in just four months of studying.
It was truly an astonishing improvement in her grades.
Her learning was still incomplete, and I didn’t think her grades would drop further when the CSAT came around.
If she could just polish her skills for the remaining five months…
It wouldn’t be a dream to get into a prestigious university.
I wanted to give her a big round of applause for her dazzling growth, but…
“Why do you look so unhappy?”
After checking all the scores, Jihee’s face was filled with discomfort.
I wanted to give her a big cheer, but I held back my reaction for a moment.
“It’s still lacking.”
“What do you mean?”
“You need to do better to get into my school.”
“No way. If she got such a high score so easily, then what’s the point of parents sending their kids to private academies from kindergarten?”
“Ugh, you should have at least gotten 2nd grade in math or English.”
I patted Jihee’s back, trying to comfort her, who was really disappointed with her grades.
“It’s okay. You did well. Don’t you remember when you first started studying and you were like, ‘I just need to get into a top-tier university’? You’ve come this far, haven’t you?”
“That was then, and this is now.”
Jihee was genuinely disappointed with her grades.
While it was impressive that she was motivated to study, it seemed like she was expecting too much.
“…I want to become someone who can keep up with you, oppa.”
I couldn’t bring myself to say I liked you.
