Omniscient First-Person’s Viewpoint - Chapter 574

The ordinary beast king, who had lived a mundane life, never had the chance to meet the previous beast king. This was because the previous beast king would pass away, and the next generation would suddenly appear somewhere in the world.
However, this human, a peculiar species, seemed to have experimented with their king and touched something crucial. I quietly observed the girl lying in front of me.
Her face was that of an ordinary beast king – innocent and carefree. If she were alive, she would have been full of energy. But with her eyes closed, it was hard to tell.
“Her consciousness is gone, but my telepathy is resonating with her. Although it’s not complete, the power of the human king remains. What’s missing is her consciousness, the ‘power that represents humanity.’ For the beast king, the collective unconscious is their consciousness.”
Her disheveled gray hair fell below her chin, a result of two thousand years of neglect. Her body, devoid of any clothing, was covered in small scratches and scars.
Among them, five wounds stood out – one near her eye, one across her wrist, one across her ankle, one across her neck, and one on her chest. These gruesome scars, although mostly healed, made me involuntarily avert my gaze.
“These are the marks of the five rulers devouring the human king. The act of eating itself was less important than the meaning behind it. They only took a part of her power, after all.”
So, what should I do now? I slightly lifted my head to look at Nephida.
“Hey, Nephida. So, what should I do?”
Nephida followed me into the lotus flower and gazed at the sleeping human king. She requested, “Please, current king, awaken the eyes of the past king.”
“Huh? You want me to wake up the unconscious person? How am I supposed to do that?”
“Don’t you feel anything, being the other half of the king?”
“Of course not. I’m not a panacea, nor am I a prince here to rescue a princess. How am I supposed to wake her up?”
“I could use my telepathy to achieve a state of ‘harmony’ with her, like I did with Teer. Then, the previous human king would read the ‘harmonized me’ and recall herself. However, this time it’s a bit riskier. If our telepathy resonates multiple times, the weaker vessel will break first.”
Waking her up? I’m not a miracle worker, and I don’t know how to revive someone who’s lost their mind.
Wait a minute… maybe?
“How about a classic? Should I try kissing her? Maybe she’ll wake up like in a fairy tale?”
“That’s an outrageous joke. I couldn’t possibly make such a request.”
“It’s not a joke. I’m fine. I don’t have a problem with kissing, and I’ve always wanted to be the prince who awakens the sleeping beauty.”
“If I’m going to grant your wish, I need to polish my skills a bit. It’ll take some time. How about I grant someone else’s wish first?”
I naturally knelt down and brought my face close to the girl’s. Hmm, I thought, princes are more barbaric than I thought. Do they just kiss someone without their consent? Is that romance or barbarism?
Just as my lips were about to touch hers, a tendril of ivy sprouted from somewhere and grabbed my arm and body. It was just a tendril, but the pressure felt like it would crush my arm.
“I thought, if I were a human king, I’d be kissing myself, wouldn’t I? Kissing myself is a bit… narcissistic.”
“That’s not the right method, is it? You know that best, don’t you?”
That’s right. You can’t wake up with a kiss. I know that too. Reality isn’t a fairy tale, after all.
“But you can’t say what the right method is! There’s only one way to combine different powers, and that’s taboo!”
The four taboos: devouring, fusion, intersection, and heresy. This immoral act, known as the origin of black magic, refers to the four methods of combining different powers.
“Are you going to devour me and feed me to her?”
“No, that’s not it. Devouring means the one who eats takes the power. That’s not the right method either.”
“You’re talking as if you’ve considered it before!”
What a terrible thing to say in front of people! I almost became a special dish for the human king!
From noble mtl dot com
“Wait, does that mean I have to devour her? Is that what the human king wants, to eat me from head to toe…?”
“Can you handle it?”
“…No, of course not. I mean, how do you eat a person? I don’t have a strange taste for eating a beautiful girl, not in a s*xual sense, but in a culinary sense.”
“Anyway, you need me, Navida. Then you should grant my wish too. Don’t ignore me just because you’re polite.”
But if we’re talking about s*xual sense, then it’s a different story. I calmly knelt down again and placed my hands on the girl’s shoulders. I gently pushed her down, and her hidden chest appeared from beneath the ivy.
Hmm, I thought, being the human king must be nice. There’s definitely a healthy charm to it. I reached out to free her chest from the ivy, but… I felt a force that could crush me again. The ivy and the morning glory were playing with me like a toy.
Navida spoke with a slightly intimidating tone.
“What are you doing?”
“Pardon? If it’s not gluttony, then it’s grafting or copulation. Surely you’re not hoping for a king with two heads? Then it would be copulation, wouldn’t it? Am I mistaken in my deduction?”
When we speak of copulation, it refers to sowing seeds to create a ‘mixed’ existence. Well, it’s a taboo in name only; in truth, it’s something everyone does for the preservation of the species. Of course, the taboo form of copulation involves a bit more of the mystical… but essentially, it’s no different.
So then, here’s a thought. If a half-human king were to impregnate a shell of a human king? Wouldn’t that copulation yield a human king!
“Ah, I feel like a stallion, and I really don’t want to do this~. But it can’t be helped~. I’m a male after all, and I’ve got a bit of a buildup~.”
“If you need a woman, I can provide as many as you desire.”
“No. Now that I think about it, there’s a certain appeal to doing it with myself as a woman. Wouldn’t that be a rather unique form of self-pleasure? Kissing felt a bit off, but copulation might be alright?”
At the mention of violating your king right before her eyes, Nebida momentarily bristled but then paused to ponder. It was surprisingly a realistic suggestion for something said in jest.
“That could be one way to go about it.”
“Perhaps this is the answer! We’re both kings of humanity, so why was I born a man while he was born a woman? This is the very harmony of yin and yang! It means the two should intertwine to become whole! Hehehe!”
“No, to be precise, I was born a male because a female remains in this world. To represent the remaining side. Dogs and wolves are essentially different facets of the same being, but I am an existence formed from what the previous human king lost. Copulation could be one method, but it would be much more difficult.”
Calculating the possibilities with a cool head, Nebida decided to hold onto that method for now.
“That method could indeed be a path. I shall remember it,”
“Really? Remember it? Can’t we try it just once as a test?”
“You must not handle the royal body recklessly, so please bear with it. If you need a woman, I can bring forth another.”
“Wait, could it be that you, Nebida?”
In response to the ice-breaking joke, Nebida, with a fearsome expression, spread her arms wide and asked back.
“Do you need me?”
“It’s a joke. A joke. I’m too scared to say yes.”
Cold sweat trickled down. I waved my hands dismissively, turning my head as if nothing were amiss. Tsk, what a pity. It was an opportunity to find out what it would feel like to be with oneself.
With this, I’ve found a reason to meet other humans, the Great Witch or Shay. Nevada. I understand what you’re wary of, but don’t worry. Your wish will come true somehow.
I turned away from the girl, savoring the taste in my mouth.
“If it’s not Devouring, Grafting, or Interfacing, then the only method left is the Four Forbidden Heresies. But this is too difficult. A miracle born from a shared image among many people? It’s impossible to even attempt.”
Heresy is different from other taboos in that it’s a more advanced and spiritual way of integrating power. It’s the act of multiple humans sharing a single image and accessing the power it holds. This integration of the mind, not the body, is the Four Forbidden Heresies.
It requires a kind of brainwashing-like education, unwavering faith among members, and a tangible power to bring their consciousness together. Only when these three elements come together can heresy be achieved.
Honestly, it’s a bit ridiculous to think that this much effort would be necessary, but if things go wrong, it can kill more people than the other three taboos. Just look at how cults often commit mass suicide or murder when they’re bored.
This is why the likes of the Earth Goddess’s magic or Druidism exist. It’s the reason why ordinary humans can wield the power of the gods, and why Druidism and shamanism existed even before humans understood the gods.
Ah, the worship of the Offering God or the communication methods of a militarized nation can also be considered a form of heresy.
“Initially, this kid doesn’t even have a consciousness. What shared image can they have?”
“The two of you originally share a single image, don’t you? The human collective unconscious, a shared image that’s more solid than anything else.”
“Huh?”
Oh, right. If we’re both human kings, then we should share the same image, shouldn’t we? Wow, Nevada, you’re amazing! I didn’t expect that!
“You’ve got it exactly right. I don’t know how you’re doing it, Nevada, but you’ve basically revealed the answer.”
“As I understand it, the two of you are two separate entities. If we bring you both to the same space, I predict that there will be some kind of reaction from both sides.”
The prediction itself is fine, but there’s something slightly lacking. I furrowed my brow, thinking.
“Hmm, to cause resonance… this kid and I are slightly different.”
“What do you mean?”
“It’s hard to put into words. I’m physically weak but mentally strong, while this kid is mentally weak but physically strong. There’s a difference there, at least.”
Nevada fell into thought after hearing my explanation.
“You’re saying that you want to grow the vessel, aren’t you? This is the land of the World Tree, where it’s not difficult to grow a vessel with the abundant energy… but I think you want to use the power you’ve gained to do something. It’s a obvious plan, but…”
No, I’m not trying to manipulate you! And I’m weak like a bug anyway, so it’s okay to let me grow a bit! You’re so full of doubts!
“It’s not a lie, Navi. My capacity is much weaker, so I’m more likely to break first, and if I break, your reign will have a hard time being revived. If it’s for your wish, you need to let my capacity grow. What, are you anxious? But to gain something, you also have to put something on the line.”
“And whether it’s a ritual or whatever, I feel a slight disconnect between me and that girl. It’s hard to explain, but it feels like we don’t quite mesh, even without considering gender differences. Is it that there’s a generational gap…?”
At my muttering, Navi seemed to realize something.
“…A gap of two thousand years. In that time, the primates have also changed. We must expand the layers of the primate to bridge that gap. Your grace is boundless, my lord. Thanks to your teachings, I have found the answer.”
“Excuse me? What have I taught you?”
After figuring it out on their own, they still ask. This is why I dislike geniuses. Their mind-reading can’t keep up with their thoughts.
“I gave a hint. You’ve stepped one step closer to your wish, and I’ve gained some free time. It was a satisfactory deal, wasn’t it?”
Navi wrapped the girl in vines again and opened the lotus petals. The lotus unfolded once more. This time, Navi bowed to me with sincerity.
“Then let us part ways here.”
That’s right. I should go. I have to go, but… I looked at the girl with a hint of lingering regret. It feels a bit disappointing, like something was snatched away right before my eyes.
“Um, even if I’m leaving, just once…”
“Please go.”
The vines grabbed me and dragged me away. I couldn’t resist as I gazed at the lotus petals closing in the distance. Tsk. What a shame. I could have done something no one else could have done…
“Next… Shei is urgent. If I lose my arm forever, this life’s wish will be thwarted. I can’t let it be that way.”
For the time being, I won’t need to use mind-reading here. That’s for the best.
“The echo of my thoughts being read again isn’t really good for deceiving myself either.”
