Omniscient First-Person’s Viewpoint - Chapter 620
Right-handed, left-handed
Lancart, who was banished from the floating castle by the Green Tower Lord, betrayed everyone’s expectations and did not die. He did not even fall.
Even while falling, Lancart perfectly used reverse gravity to return to floating status.
“Right-handed people are just so old-fashioned. Obvious and boring.”
Lancart is a genius. That was a common story even in the floating castle where only so-called geniuses gathered. There are many stories of talented people who believed they were geniuses becoming frustrated after realizing reality, but Lancart didn’t experience any particular frustration after coming to the floating castle.
“You can’t blame right-handed people. They just go with the flow of the great current that drives the world. They’re wise and rational, so they become right-handed and wield their power… But it’s still boring.”
That’s because the existence of Rankart is a genius beyond the norm… rather than that.
Because I’ve already experienced a huge setback once.
“In order to ‘leap’, you need to be left-handed. That way, you can see to the next level.”
As he returned to the workshop muttering, Rankart suddenly felt a presence. Rankart shook his head at the presence that should not have been there.
The wizard is awarded the workshop of ‘Babel’. Lancart’s mansion is located in a particularly remote place in Babel, so it would be nearly impossible to find without Rene’s map.
But, at the time when Rankart was away. If there was a human hiding in his mansion…
“Huey? Is that you?”
There were many other candidates, but Lancaart intuitively believed it was him.
And as Rankart had expected, it was ‘him’ who appeared before his eyes.
Hughes was casually fiddling with his cards in his workshop. A quick glance showed that he had scribbled on a few of the gems and alchemy coins of Lancaart.
One of the things a wizard hates the most is having his workshop messed up. But the first thought that came to Lancart’s mind was ‘How?’
“How did you do it? The Noktopju wouldn’t have let you go.”
“I got caught. I was trapped. I escaped.”
“Gravity barrier?”
“It’s worth doing.”
Shuffle the magic clover cards and Hughes walked over to the sofa, sitting down as if he were the owner of the house. Lancart looked at his back and smiled half in delight.
“As expected, you are amazing. You are different from that right-handed guy. Your magic power is weak and your stamina is insignificant. But you can accomplish anything in the end.”
“That’s right. I’m weak.”
“It’s okay if you’re weak. You’re left-handed. Being left-handed, who made this world look like a right-handed world again, is valuable enough in itself…!”
“But why do you keep bothering me?”
Hughes looked at him coldly.
“You try to test me. I, a weakling, overcome difficulties in ways you, a strongling, could never imagine. You keep putting me in danger, wondering how you’ll get through this time… Do I still have to be your friend, knowing that?”
At the cold tone of his old friend, Rankart suddenly raised his head and made an excuse.
“Oh, no. This time it wasn’t a test. I was planning on coming back and letting you go right away!”
“The word ‘back’ is not appropriate. You could have paid a little more attention. I, who learned the magic of rituals, am a commoner here, or a warlock. An outcast from the floating castle. You are the only one I can rely on.”
Hughes looked into Rankart’s heart with his narrow, cold eyes.
Lanca is smart. They say that geniuses don’t know the human mind, but that’s simply because they’re not interested. Humans as a ‘phenomenon’ are fully understood.
It was almost a given how the Green Tower would act, and Lancart made no attempt to overcome it.
Because it is to Rankart’s advantage to limit and control Shay and Hughes’ range of action.
“You say you want to ‘cooperate’? But you’re just a right-handed person after all. It’s old-fashioned, obvious, and boring. But you’re just taking advantage of it. Even ‘politics’, which you find so annoying when you’re on the receiving end, is a good tool when you use it, right?”
The wizard is rational. It is because he lives by different rules, but his principles of action are based on cool reason and rational judgment. Using politics is also a result of rational judgment.
That’s what happened to Rankart too. He probably didn’t want it to be that way.
“Should our cooperation end here?”
“Sorry!”
Lancart suddenly raised his head and immediately bowed deeply.
It was a shocking sight.
If you were to call him Rankart Spendrei, he was a genius of unparalleled genius who could turn the six generals of the military into seven stars. Even after betraying the military and coming to the Federation of Magical Islands, he was not ignored, but rather was envied.
Arrogant, arrogant, and damned talented, Lankart… was now begging for help from a swindler from outside the castle.
“I made a mistake. I forgot my place and went with the right-handed world. Huey, I guess I forgot for a moment because I was away from you for so long!”
“What kind of forgetfulness is this? I haven’t really forgotten anything since I was born.”
“Or maybe your judgment is clouded. I’m not as genius as you are.”
It wasn’t flattery. Lancart truly believed it. When Hughes showed signs of softening, Lancart raised his head again and asked secretly.
“Would you like something to drink? Water, tea, coffee, milk. We have everything.”
“Milk? You raise dairy cows in Buoyancy?”
“I brought it from the summer and stored it using the preservation magic of the Crystal School. Here.”
Lancaert took a milk crystal from the cupboard, put it in a cup, and snapped his fingers. The crystal broke and the milk became a pure white liquid again, filling the cup. Lancaert placed the cup in front of Hughes and watched him quietly until he picked up his glass.
After a short wait, Hughes picked up his glass and took a sip of milk. Lancart watched Hughes gulp down the milk before asking.
“How did you get out of the gravity barrier?”
“swing.”
Hughes answered curtly. Lancathe understood the meaning contained in those two words at once and was amazed.
“There was such a method! The gravity barrier keeps you in that coordinate, but it doesn’t trap energy. If you swing it repeatedly like a swing, you’ll eventually reach escape velocity! To think of such a method right after arriving in Cheonchu. As expected, you’re amazing!”
“That’s amazing. I managed to escape after trying all sorts of dirty tricks.”
“That’s great! You can write anything!”
A very excited Lancart clenched his right hand and shouted.
“Magic, qigong. Alchemy or dexterity. Tools and bodies, systems and structures. And even the illusions or minds of others. Not being bound by anything, not relying on anything. Just doing it.”
“You have to do what you have to do.”
“That’s what’s important, Huey. Not being stuck in a mold, not going with the flow. Reading the other side, being able to weigh both sides.”
A right-handed world. A unique magic that limits the direction of all power to right rotation, centered around Rankart.
Everyone is paying attention to the absolute defensive power of that unique magic sword, and trying to analyze and destroy it. But in fact, the mental image of the ‘right-handed world’ is not on the right.
Lancarte stared at his right hand, but was conscious of the hand on the other side.
“-The left-handed person’s gaze.”
In order to establish the concept of positive numbers, negative numbers must exist. If there were no negative numbers, positive numbers would have arrogantly reigned as natural numbers.
It’s the same. You need to have left-handers to face this right-handed world.
The world is turning to the right. From the movement of the constellations to the tiny elements of magic, everything moves with a right-handed rotation. The uncontrollable chaos occasionally gives birth to left-handed people, but they are lost in the vast right-handed world.
One day, after being defeated by Hughes in a small, emerging nation called Gun-guk, Lancart suddenly realized the truth.
The fact that you need to be left-handed to ‘jump’ to higher places.
The magician explained his unique magic directly, but Hughes yawned in boredom and drank his milk.
“Like a drink?”
“Yes. Masindo is also left-handed. But he was swept away and died in a world where everyone was right-handed.”
“What about the god of wealth?”
“I figured it out. If you want, you can approach me right now.”
“A little later. I think I should take a look around the floating castle before that. There might be another clue there.”
For the time being, it was the status quo. Since it was the expected course of events, Rankart didn’t bother to say anything else. Instead, Rankart asked something else.
“Hey. What about the woman you were with? Are you leaving her now?”
Hughes brought the remaining milk to his lips and said.
“No way. It’s useful.”
“You still haven’t seduced that woman?”
Hughes spit out half of the milk he was drinking, as if the question was unexpected. Hughes wiped his mouth and said.
“Coolook. What are you talking about?”
“The fact that you came here alone means that there must be a reason to get rid of that woman. It’s not like you’re going to throw her away if she’s still useful. If that’s the case, then you’re in the middle of working on her.”
Lancaert overestimates Hughes. If Hughes really has a plan, he believes he can definitely accomplish it.
Although Hughes intended to overestimate, Lancaart interpreted Hughes’ actions rather than guessing his intentions.
“If you’re talking about Shay, isn’t that the dangerous person who was locked up in Tantalus after I escaped? We’ve been together ever since, but you still haven’t eaten?”
“What the heck! Do you think I’m some kind of hypnotist? How does that work?!”
“You did, right? There were a lot of them at Hamelin Military Academy. If that Historia hadn’t been around to get you, there would have been dozens of your children in the military.”
“You b*stard! No! I won’t raise a child who can’t take responsibility for his human nature!”
Surprisingly, that approach was close to the right answer. The mind can be hidden, but actions cannot. Hughes squeezed his eyes shut.
“Rancart. There is one fact that needs to be set straight. Believe it or not, but listen to me.”
“I’ll listen. Tell me.”
Hughes took a long time to decide what to say. After much thought and no response, he finally opened his mouth.
“That’s not the kind of thing that goes my way. It’s full of variables.”
“That’s how fickle a woman is. That’s why I respect you. Even that fickle mind is controlled by you as you wish.”
“What are you talking about? I stick my tongue out at women too. I survive by trying to please them. And Shay is the best among them.”
Hughes, who had been thinking of Shay while sticking out his tongue, soon continued speaking seriously.
“And, I shouldn’t be too fond of Shay. I need to keep a psychological distance… so I can plan for the future.”
He doesn’t know what happened or what he’s after. Lancart still hasn’t fully figured out who Hughes is. But Lancart doesn’t feel any regret about it.
Can we blame the storm for blowing our house away? It would be better to repair our own house at that time. Nature is an object of observation, not of expectation. Expectation is the province of religion.
Hughes was that kind of person to Rankart. Rankart decided to do as Hughes wanted.
That way we can analyze it in more detail.
