Paladin of the Dead God - Chapter 24
Only Noblemtl
Episode 24. Search and Destroy (1)
Shortly after Isaac purged the sanctuary, the plague abated.
It was enough to check Isolde’s condition without having to check on other patients.
Isolde, who was in the most serious condition in the monastery, was asleep on a bed in the isolation room. Now most of the wounds are healing, and it is difficult to find any signs of illness.
A few scratches or bites from the wolf would be disfiguring, but they were not noticeable. It is simply asleep and will wake up soon.
“It’s amazing to see such improvement in just one day.”
“The monks’ prayers must have reached heaven.”
Yevhar muttered as if surprised to see that the signs of the plague had disappeared from Isolde. The monks also realized that the plague was retreating from the monastery. Most of the monks who were sick with the plague were gathered in the chapel and praying.
As soon as her condition improved significantly, they immediately reported it to the abbot, and Abbot Yevhar came to visit Isolde as soon as the plague had begun.
Isaac, who was drunk enough to take advantage anyway, gave all the credit to the Code of Light without any hesitation. There is no way to explain how to get better in just one day other than a miracle from God. Moreover, Isaac’s strength and balls were not something he could boast about.
“No. This is clearly your credit. “Isaac.”
However, Yevhar did not simply credit it to God.
“Of course, I knew that the Code of Light would save us. But we didn’t know when that would be, or how many of us would be tested and sacrificed. “It was clear that this was not just a plague.”
Yevhar patted Isaac on the shoulder and said.
“If the Code of Light helped us, then sending you on our behalf would be that help.”
Isaac was embarrassed by the unexpected praise. He only helped people he had worked with for years because he couldn’t bear to see them die, but he had nothing to say when he received such high praise.
“Umm… … .”
Just when the awkward atmosphere was about to continue for both the person who gave the compliment and the person who received it, a welcome groan was heard. Isol De, who had been suffering from death for several days, was finally starting to come to her senses.
Isaac saw her eyes faintly open and quickly bent down.
“Hey. Are you out of your mind?”
Isolde’s eyes, which had lost focus on the ceiling for a moment, turned to Isaac. She seemed to be unable to focus clearly, but then she turned to face Isaac and started shedding tears.
Suddenly crying, Isaac asked, ‘It seemed like he was unconscious. Was he in a lot of pain?’ I thought, but the words that came out of Isolde’s mouth were unexpected.
“You came to get me.”
“yes? Uh, yes. Mr. Gebel and I went out and picked him up.”
“Gebel? It’s the first time I’ve heard this name, but I’m sure there are heroes that we don’t know about. “I can only take it for granted that a famous angel with a name came out to meet me.”
Isolde looked at Yebhar with red wet eyes and muttered.
“Angel Geber, I am ready. I consider it a blessing to simply follow Your will and die, and I dare to reach the eternal kingdom filled with light… … .”
Isaac was silent for a moment, then decided to correct her misunderstanding.

After a while, Isolde sat down on the bed with a face as red as her eyes and answered.
“You are not an angel.”
“yes. no.”
Isaac couldn’t see her face. Because Isol De was holding her face and burrowing down to her knees. The only thing she could see was that even her earlobes were red and she was worried that her veins were bursting due to her blood pressure.
“sorry. I am that… … Absolutely, so… … Your face… … .”
“I understand. “It was an extreme situation and you must have been scared.”
Isaac hurriedly prevaricated before Isolde could say something she would regret even more. Even when Isolde first encountered Isaac, she asked, ‘An angel?’ I fainted while saying the same nonsense. Isaac was actually a Nephilim, a half-breed angel, so it wasn’t a complete misunderstanding.
However, the number of Nephilim was extremely small, and it would be difficult even if it was discovered that they were really Nephilim, so I had to keep my thoughts from going in that direction. Fortunately, Isolde hastily accepted Isaac’s excuse.
“yes yes. you’re right. Now that I thought I was dead, I got unexpected help… … .”
It would be easier for you and others to accept that you thought you were an angel because you died and came back to life rather than thinking you were an angel because of your appearance.
Isolde nodded frantically, as if she was convinced, and finally revealed her face. After she convinced herself, her face was at least less red than before.
“Now that I think about it, there was a blacksmith apprentice who accompanied me. “Did the child arrive safely?”
“yes. “Hans informed me of your danger.”
“That’s really… … Relief… … .”
Only then did Isolde seem to remember why she had come to the monastery and hurriedly began looking for her luggage. Isaac held out her bundle to her.
“Clothes and bags had no choice but to be burned to prevent the plague, but books, documents, and tools were sealed because the plague seemed impenetrable. “Please forgive me for burning my clothes.”
Most of Isolde’s items were treated as if they were the equipment of an Inquisitor and were not tainted by other beliefs or curses. Among them was the Sword of Judgment that Isaac had been secretly using. However, since it was difficult to dispose of each piece of clothing in that way, we had no choice but to burn it.
However, Isolde did not seem to care about the story of how she was stripped naked in a monastery where there were only men. She frantically rummaged through her luggage and breathed a sigh of relief when she found that she had all the items she was looking for.
“Nothing was lost. Thank you for keeping it well.”
She then looked at Isaac with a questioning look.
“Have you ever read the letters and documents here?”
Isaac and Yevhar looked at each other with shocked expressions.
Reading the Inquisitor’s confidential documents could be branded as blasphemous. There are already two people stabbed in this monastery. Three if you include the abbot who hid the fact that Isaac was a Eucharist. Thanks to this, there was a lot of debate as to whether or not the documents should be read.
But Isaac calmly opened his mouth.
“yes. I read it. “I didn’t know what you were talking about.”
“Isaac!”
Yebhar scolded in surprise, but Isolde shook her head.
“it’s okay. The situation is what it is, so there is nothing we can do about it. If you had read it, the situation could have improved faster. “The reason I came was because of this plague.”
“Is it because of the plague?”
Yevhar asked in surprise. They already knew that the plague that swept the monastery was not a normal plague but was caused by a curse or a conspiracy. However, I did not expect that the Heretic Questioner came with that purpose from the beginning.
“yes. The demonic power of the Immortal Order is reaching this monastery.”
She muttered, her eyes burning.

Isolde changed into the extra clothes she had in her bag protected from the plague and returned to the abbot’s office. He was wearing an easy-to-move uniform with a dark red hood over his head.
This time Gebel was also present. He was reluctant to meet Isolde, who had come to her senses, but she said that Isolde really wanted to meet him, so she had no choice but to come.
“I heard you saved me. thank you.”
“It wasn’t me who saved it, it was that blue kid over there with no beard.”
Gebel waved his hands and leaned against the wall as if he didn’t want to attract attention. Isolde decided to respect Gebel’s opinion, as she did not want to mix words. But when she sang her Geber, it was not just to express her gratitude.
“How many people in the monastery can use a sword?”
“A knife?”
Yebhar hesitated for a moment at the unexpected words and then opened his mouth.
“I don’t know what level you want, but I also have experience participating in the Dawn Army. There are also some monks who went on pilgrimages. But even if all the monks and I rush in, we won’t be able to defeat these two men, Isaac and Gebel.”
Isolde looked back at Isaac as if asking if that was the extent of it. Isaac wished he hadn’t been so outspoken, but he couldn’t help it since it was already revealed. In fact, he doesn’t even have to go all the way to Geber. As long as it was just the monks, Isaac was confident that he could handle it on his own.
“Is there a reason we need a sword and not a miracle?”
The greatest weapon you can expect from a monastery is miracles. But Isolde wanted the sword.
“This plague is a conspiracy by the Immortal Cult.”
“Immortal Order… … “Isn’t it too far for the Immortal Sect to move?”
The Black Empire, where the Buddhist Order is located, is a two-month ride away on horseback. There were also several small kingdoms in between. However, the possibility could not be denied based on distance alone.
“Just a few years ago, the apostate Carlsen attacked a village just half a day away from here. “It was a terrible incident that left no survivors.”
Yevhar desperately tried to control his face to avoid drawing attention to Isaac.
“That was possible because the leader of the Holy Knights committed apostasy. “It’s impossible now.”
“Of course, it is difficult to believe that Carlsen, who disappeared, was involved in this incident. But it can have an impact. “With only a small number of people, we are causing chaos in the rear.”
Isaac felt like he had read Isolde’s thoughts.
The Buddhist Order attempted to commit biochemical terrorism in the basement of the monastery.
“They were trying to resurrect an ancient god beneath this monastery!”
Isolde solemnly declared.
Isaac almost hiccuped, but managed to suppress it.
However, despite her solemn declaration, the expected response was not received. Yevhar looked at her astonished expression, and Gebel frowned at her as if she had a headache.
“So?”
“yes?”
“Inquisitor, such a grand story may surprise the villagers, but I am the abbot. “Ancient beliefs cannot be revived, and most of the legends surrounding them are exaggerated.”
“When the ancient god is resurrected, so will the ancient unclean monsters and curses… … .”
“Even if they are truly resurrected, gods without worshipers have no influence on the world. Because they are dead gods. “It’s as if the nameless chaos that almost brought the world to destruction now has no effect on the world.”
Yebhar muttered while playing with his beard.
“But I think I know what you mean. I heard that there used to be a belief in plague in this area. It is said that hundreds of years ago, the temple was torn down and this monastery was built using bricks as the foundation. According to what you said, this plague is the effect of that plague god.”
“That’s right. The Immortal Church plans to revive such ancient beliefs throughout the empire.”
There are nine main faiths in Nameless Chaos. However, given the setting, it was not like that from the beginning. In ancient times, there were hundreds of different beliefs. All beasts, monsters, and special phenomena that were even slightly strong were worshiped as gods. However, as the Age of Light began, ancient beliefs disappeared or merged, leaving only nine. Even so, some of the nine faiths were in danger of disappearing at any moment.
Isn’t Isaac alone in the ‘Nameless Chaos’ cult right now?
“So what benefit is there for the Immortal Order?”
“If there is internal strife within the Code of Light, the number of believers in the Immortal Church will increase… … .”
“There is probably no religion that does not worry about believers as much as the Buddhist Order. The number of believers in the Buddhist Order is only increasing, not decreasing. Even if they are doing nothing.”
Isolde frowned and said nothing.
“More than anything, the Nine Gods would not want the Old God to be resurrected. Even the Immortal Emperor cooperated in overthrowing the ancient beliefs that forced child-burning and massacres. “If there’s one thing we agree with the pagans, it’s that there is no reason for ancient beliefs to be resurrected and they should not be resurrected.”
This was the biggest difference between the ancient faith and the nine faiths.
If ancient faith was the realm of barbarism, the nine faiths were the realm of human reason and civilization. This was proven by the fact that half of the nine faiths are of human origin. No one would want to go back to those days, Isaac thought.
‘Now that I think about it, Nameless Chaos is also a faith of nine, so why is it like this? Was it a bit different before it was destroyed?’
That question crossed Isaac’s mind, but it was a question he couldn’t and shouldn’t ask anyone now.
Isolde quietly bit her lip. Isaac realized that she had already expected this rebuttal. Of course, if you want to continue your argument, you could go on further. Doctrinal battles never end no matter how many years they last.
‘You’re hiding something.’
Isaac quietly stepped back. Fortunately, Isolde and Yevhar were having a war of nerves with each other, so they couldn’t pay attention to Isaac.
Yebhar opened his mouth.
“Inquisitor, if you need our sword, please tell us honestly. Why is the Immortal Cult operating around here? “Is this a story that cannot be shared even with brothers of the same faith?”
The moment Yebhar shook Isolde’s heart, Isaac used his newly acquired ability, ‘Eye of Chaos’.
