25: New Magical Tool
Now, even though we’ve decided to participate, we won’t be moving right away, and there’s a chance that a raid party won’t be formed depending on the content of the investigation.
Even so, gathering information in advance and having the drive to include me, an adventurer (Adbel), in the group (party) as insurance is something I might learn from as a fellow adventurer.
Strictly speaking, I’m not an adventurer, though.
Using that free time, I was trying to make a magic tool.
It was a magic tool with an information exchange function. I really wanted something with the function to allow conversation even when far apart.
That’s because I want to receive information from Jarnall the moment I want it (in real time). I only interact with him occasionally as the crown prince in the mansion or as part of the trading company. I wouldn’t mind if I didn’t t, but Jarnall has things to do, and I have things to do. If new information comes in during that time, I’ll only find out about it later.
That’s what’s so frustrating. I was trying out various methods to somehow find a way to contact him at the time (timing) he wants when I got my hands on something called a memory transfer stone with a similar mechanism.
If you can send a body from one place to another, it should be possible to send a voice or thoughts.
Thinking that, I used a magic stone of considerable value to try making one.
A gold chain, a pendant top wrapped in elaborate craftsmanship, a magic stone imbued with the effect of magic (color).
I thought I had succeeded by instinct, so I headed to Jarnall’s place in a good mood.
But, however.
“I’m terribly sorry… The branch manager is currently away.”
“Ugh.”
Those were the words I was told when I entered the trading company.
“Do you know when he’ll be back?”
“No, he left this morning. He doesn’t have any plans to leave the city, so he’ll probably be back by evening…”

His apologetic expression was pitiful. It can’t be helped.
“Then I’ll come back around evening.”
“I’m terribly sorry.”
I went outside and wondered what to do. I don’t have anything in particular to do today. It’s well past noon, so I don’t feel like going hunting, and it’s a pain to go back to the mansion and come back here again.
Thinking I’d buy something to eat while walking around, I noticed the shop where I bought my first weapon.
Speaking of which, I touched the sword on my hip.
I’m calmly hunting magical beasts with hard scales and skin like danger level 4 with this cheap sword, but that’s only possible because I’m strengthening it with magic. If I wasn’t, it would have broken a long time ago.
I noticed when I threw a strengthened stone at something like a baboon spider, but the effect of strengthening is higher with better quality items.
I learned by blowing the heads off numerous magical beasts that strengthening a poor quality item doesn’t make it that hard, but a good quality item becomes even harder.
In other words, it would probably also affect the sharpness if it were a sword, so I bought a decent dagger and tried it out, and as expected, that was the case.
I also tried imbuing it with magic power, but it was pretty much pointless, only covering the surface with a transparent film. It’s still useful because it keeps filth like venom from touching the sword itself, though.
In other words, it’s better to use a decent sword.
“Hello.”
“Welcome. Hey, did you break it already?”
The muscular man with the perpetually stern face smiled like a child.
“I didn’t break it, but I’m thinking of hunting a Platinum Dragon next, so I wanted a good sword.”
“Unfortunately, I don’t have anything for a Platinum Dragon. I do have a Battlehammer that might shatter a Rock Dragon, though.”
“No, give me a sword.”
“hahahahaha,” the man said with a laugh as he leaned his body on the counter, raising an eyebrow in amusement.
“So, did you make a fortune or something? What’s your budget?”
“Hmm.”
I plopped down the small bag hanging from my hip. The man looked a little surprised when he saw what was inside.
“You’ve already earned this much?”
I ignored that and plopped down two more small bags. The man’s cheeks twitched a little.
At this point, I wondered if there was anything I should have asked Journal for.
“Do you have a sword for the Platinum Dragon?”
I laughed again. Then the man crossed his arms and pondered for a moment before taking a sword hanging on the wall. It was a two-handed sword, judging by its length.
“This is the highest quality sword we have. We originally sold weapons and armor aimed at novice to mid-level adventurers. This is our limit.”
“How much?”
“Two hundred gold coins.”
I received it, thinking it was worth four sets of teacups.
It was longer than the one I had, and it looked different. It was well-made, even though it was elaborate. This was probably not only elaborate but also sturdy.
When I drew it, I saw the gleam of metal that cheap things don’t have. When I looked at the blade, I could clearly see my face reflected. The blade was sharp too. The fact that there was no groove (fuller) in the center meant that it was probably a heavy sword used to hunt really big things. Well, it’s a two-handed sword in the first place.
“It was made by the apprentice of a famous blacksmith, and I got it when a fair amount of it was released. Well, it’s not enough for high-level adventurers to use, and it’s a bit subtle for mid-level adventurers. That’s why it was left unsold.”
“Not bad.”
The man laughed at my words. It might have been a strange thing for a novice to say.
“Is this the only length you have?”
“I have some if you don’t mind the quality, but the person who made it is different.”
“I see… This is fine.”
“Thank you for your patronage. Do you only need a sword? If you have the money, you should get some armor too.”
Come to think of it, the set I’m wearing is still for beginners. It’s fine if I say it’s fine, but it would be a little inconvenient if my shoes got worn out. Also, it would be better to have good clothes and a coat. I realized this during the recent escort mission.
“I don’t care about the price, do you have anything that’s sturdy?”
“Oh, I do. Well, as I said before, it’s for mid-level adventurers. If you really want something good, I can introduce you to someone.”
“I’ll take it here since I’m here.”
“Oh, that helps.”
In the end, all I bought was a thick top and bottom, leather gauntlets, a leather belt that could hold healing potions and daggers, boots, and a coat. I declined the breastplate because it would make it difficult to move. The new sword I bought would be carried on my back with a sword belt, so it would only get in the way.
I also bought a few new daggers since I was here.
“If you’re not going to wear armor on your chest or arms, you don’t need those clothes. You only need a sturdy coat, but the inside is the same. You might as well order it from a good clothing store. “
“I see. I’ll do that.”
“I’ll be counting on you.”
“I’ll come back when I defeat the dragon.”
We waved at each other with a laugh and left the store.
I lost about four hundred gold coins, but it was a good purchase.
Later, I thought I would buy various things at Jarnal’s store, including spares to put in [My Treasure Box (Colorless Jewels)], and I started wandering around the city again, thinking I might as well buy a lot of things so that I could go out for a long time.
*
“I’m sorry. I had something to do.”
“No, I just came on my own.”
“That’s helpful.”
In the evening, when I finished shopping and went back to the guild, Jarnal had returned. He narrowed his eyes slightly when he came into the reception room and saw my appearance, but he sat down opposite me without saying anything.
“So, what brings you here today?”
I responded to his words by shaking my finger.
Journal understood and heard immediately.
I took out the magic tool I had just made today from [My Treasure Box] and handed it to Jarnal.
He tilted his head, looking at it curiously. He was probably using the skill [Analyze (Read)] to read the name, effects, and benefits of the object, but I had hidden it with a new magic called [Magic Veil]. It would only look like a pendant necklace with a magic stone in his eyes. It was a little bit of a prank.
“What is this?”
“Try putting it around your neck.”
While prompting him, I also put another one that I had taken out around my neck. Then, I thought of Jarnal’s face and name in my mind and called out to him in my heart.
‘Can you hear me?’
“Ah!”
Jarnal seemed surprised by this and looked at me with wide eyes.
‘Try putting on the necklace and thinking of my face and name in your mind while calling out to me in your heart.’
Seeming to understand, Journal closed his eyes and seemed to be concentrating.
‘Did it work?’
‘Correct.’
After that brief exchange, I took a sip of tea.
Journal did the same and then exhaled.
“I named it ‘Telepathy (Metas Voice)’. I made it because I wanted to exchange information quickly. So that we can have conversations in our minds without having to speak out loud.”
“This is amazing.”
“Right? Now, there are three conditions for using this. You have to be wearing it. You have to think of the other person’s face and name. You have to speak to them in your mind. If you don’t meet these conditions , the other person won’t be able to hear your thoughts. It might take some practice.”
“So, we’ll be using this to communicate from now on?”
“It’s a hassle to have to meet here or at the mansion every time, and the information is slow. Plus, there are times when I’m not around, like today.”
“Hmm.”
He seemed to be thinking about something, and I watched him while drinking my tea.
“Well, it’s not just for me to contact you. If there’s anything, you can tell me too. I did it for the first time the other day, but things like escorting you.”
“The Lars Trading Company?”
“You have good ears. That’s it.”
“I see… So you’re asking me to escort you.”
He frowned. Well, I can understand what he’s trying to say.
“Isn’t that okay? Or are you not satisfied with me?”
“If I were not satisfied with you, I would not ask anyone.”
“Well, feel free to ask me. I’ve been receiving your help all the time, so I have to return the favor sometimes.”
Up until now, I’ve only been receiving things from Jarnal, and I’ve never done anything to repay him. I don’t think that’s good, so I’m actually glad that he asked me.
However, Jarnal shook his head with a serious expression.
“It’s fine. I’m doing this because I want to.”
“…I see.”
As he looked at me, I was reminded of the day he bowed to me as a vassal, and I couldn’t say anything more.
“Speaking of which, is this today’s business?”
“Yes. I figured out how to make it, so I came early.”
“I am grateful.”
He bowed his head and then spoke.
“And, have you changed your equipment because of the Jibril territory?”
“…Tell me more about that.”
Journal had obtained information that was overwhelmingly fast, so I listened to his story.
