16 – performance evaluation.
The second semester of Cetin Divinity Academy is not that tight. It was just burning because the sophomores were having a different experience than usual, but there was usually only 4 classes a day, and the content itself was relaxed, so I had time to spare.
Four weeks after Ed became an assistant instructor and three weeks after classes began, Principal Enild Setin Quasar told the professors to adjust the time so that the first and third graders could see the second-year performance evaluation. The professors in charge of the homeroom had attended classes after receiving phone calls from parents worried about how the 2nd grade students were being taught and whether they were really in danger, and decided to follow Principal Quasar’s words without hesitation.
Necropolis is similar to an alliance, but the kingdoms and students who joined the Holy Union felt that it was similar to sleeping with an enemy. Even if I released that feeling of embarrassment to the monster, it was a monster, absolutely not a necromancer. However, in this class, even though Instructor Ed was controlling his strength, the necromancer’s skeleton matched the goal of the enemy, Setin’s students, to some extent, and the second graders were addicted to the pleasure of defeating the enemy.
“Is this really that much of a spectacle?”
Ed had heard from Glodia, so he knew that both first and third graders would attend if they had time, but he was embarrassed to see the number almost tripled after spending time with around 30 students.
The original plan was to see performance evaluations one by one in a closed arena, but I didn’t know it would be so public. And don’t forget, this was a ‘performance evaluation’ of the ‘purification practice’ subject, not a midterm and final exam, nor a class that did not account for 5% of the academic grade. However, for the sake of that 5%, it was definitely foreign to the sophomores turning on the light in their eyes and running.
“To be honest, do I have a wish for Mr. Ed to become an official professor at Setin? Since he does not have a teacher’s license, it will be difficult to become a full-time professor, but would it be similar if he were a continuing assistant instructor? Now that it’s done, some professors are thinking about whether to recruit more necromancers next semester.”
“Um…”
After hearing Glodia’s words, two thoughts immediately came to mind. Is there any necromancer as skilled as you? And are there any patient necromancers?
Ed took advantage of self-destruction to the limit and used his skeleton strength to survive the class, but if you look closely, the skeleton has many scratches. If you don’t minimize the accumulation of damage by controlling and destroying the skeleton’s power like yourself, dozens of skeletons will be needed. I don’t know if it’s possible to get it from Cetin, but Ed used the resources to a minimum anyway.
And patience, which is actually more important. In the first week, I lost close to 100 times, and in the second week, I lost more than 300 times. I don’t think there are too many necromancers who can keep their sanity while accumulating defeats like that. Necromancers had little patience because they were very close to the emotions of hatred, jealousy, and anger as much as they dealt with curses. Ed, who thought that he had developed some patience while living a difficult life as an orphan, wanted to take out all 10 skeletons and turn them into a mess right now.
So, if you have less experience of defeat because you have skills, you will be under a lot of stress by losing to students, and if you are used to defeat because you do not have skills, you will waste your resources. Ed, who belongs to the former, is holding on with his mental strength, but after this performance evaluation is over, he really thought that he should take out his anger somewhere, and he had decided that place to be in the south.
“Take it slow. You have plenty of time. Instructor Ed, shall we go up then?”
“Yes. Professor Glodia.”
Ed and Glodia stood in the center of the arena, and Glodia took a deep breath and said,
“As a performance evaluation of the purification practice in the second semester of the second year, we will have a sparring with three skeletons. If you defeat all of them, you pass, and there is also a partial score, so please show off your skills that you have honed for two weeks as hard as you can. I will only accept applicants.”
When Glodia spoke, not speaking casually as she usually does in class, but being conscious of other professors and students, the two raised their hands. Both Baina and Wenbert Vianos were students who had completed the second week of practice and had gone through performance evaluations in advance. As Ed, I think Wenbert has a high possibility, but Vaina caught my eye because of an unusual encounter.
“If there are only two of us, we’ll make it two. Please start with student Wenbert.”
“Yes. Professor Glodia.”
Wenbert, who was sitting in the front row, came forward first and stood in front of Ed. Ed touched the necromancer license in his pocket, opened the subspace, and summoned three skeletons.
“oh….”
“Wow! It’s a real skeleton.”
“I secretly watched it in class, but something is different.”
The voice of a freshman with a pure reaction still remaining.
“I think it’ll be fun.”
“Why didn’t we do that in second grade?”
“I don’t want to do anything difficult anymore.”
From noble mtl dot com
“Isn’t that right? You’ll have to move your body a lot, right?”
Then came the voice of a 3rd grader with a mixture of fun and annoyance.
Glodia stood between the three skeletons and Wenbert.
“Then let’s begin the performance evaluation of student Wenbert Vianos!”
As soon as Glodia fell back, the skeleton at Ed’s command started running forward, holding her shield close to her chest and holding her sword tightly to her side. Blocks the flying magic bullets aiming for the core, then approaches and stabs them. Anyone could see that a skeleton with such a purpose was running, but the problem was that the number was three.
Wenbert protected his core as much as possible and saw him running, so he gave up his initial plan of using both hands to fire magic bullets and went straight to his main magic. Wenbert, who had brown hair close to the blonde common in Cetin, emitted mana to the extent that his hair looked slightly red, and red flames engulfed his fists.
‘Always with a warm heart.’
Carrying the family motto of the Vianos family in his heart, Wenbert ran out.
‘At first glance, it seems that the fist was strengthened, but it was a technique that strengthened the entire front.’
Ed had been through Wenbert’s technique once in Week 2. That technique, which felt like a moving shield wrapped around it, even burned the last part by rushing right before it broke.
‘It looks like they’ve given up on using magic bullets.’
At Ed’s command, the skeletons removed their shields from their chests and raised their swords. If you wanted to break that red shield, you could stab one point with three skeletons at the same time, but most necromancers didn’t even think of giving such precise orders. A typical necromancer drags around 20 or more skeletons and thinks that they are just pushing with numbers, so Ed’s level of precision was rarely seen.
Ed also weakened the skeleton below average and gave up some degree of control precision, so he chose the direction of overlapping lines rather than focusing on points.
– Kang! Kang! Kang!
– Awesome!
As the skeleton’s sword struck Wenbert’s shield repeatedly, it began to crack. It was weak enough to protect the entire front, and a sound that others could feel the tension spread through the arena due to the concentration of this much power.
But Wenbert was not afraid. Because coming within range of an attack that breaks the shield is the same as coming within range of yourself. While swinging his left hand to block the skeleton’s swords, he hit the top of the skeleton’s shield with his right arm as if he were hitting it with a hammer.
– Quaang!
Block the sword with your left arm and drop the shield with your right arm. And again, with his left arm, he thrust with all his might towards the skeleton.
-Less!
The moment Wenbert’s hand touched the skeleton, Ed used his self-destruction and destroyed the skeleton. The ribs were blown away from the blow, but the rest of the body was fine.
Just like that, one skeleton was reduced.
“It looks reckless, but is it like that to reduce the accumulated damage to yourself?”
“Because the fewer the number of skeletons, the safer it is.”
“It’s a pretty bold decision for believing in yourself.”
People watching Wenbert’s way of dealing with the remaining skeletons said. Even with three skeletons, they couldn’t handle Wenbert. Just like the first time I defeated the skeleton, I slashed my shield with a similar tactic and directed my power toward the core.
Ed used self-destruction to match the regime and destroyed the skeleton.
That’s how the skeleton became one.
“Wow! One left!”
“Senior wins!”
The juniors’ cheering could be heard, but Wenbert and the second-year students on stage were silent.
Ed showed the skills I saw when there was only one skeleton left during the performance evaluation specification.
The skeleton, which looked majestic when the three of them were standing together, but seemed lonely because it had lost its companion, swung its sword.
Wenbert knew that the power contained in the sword was the same as when the three skeletons attacked at the same time earlier, so he immediately retreated and avoided it.
“Why avoid?”
“Have you got one left?”
“You’ve concentrated your strength.”
“What would happen if the necromancer focused on one instead of three.”
The 1st year, who thought the end was in sight, the 3rd year, who grasped the situation by seeing Wenbert’s movements and the mana contained in the skeleton’s core, and the 3rd year, who knew through their own experiences, watched Wenbert’s fight in silence.
‘As expected, the speed hasn’t changed much compared to the stronger power.’
I had a little doubt about whether it was possible to increase the power with the same speed, but Wenbert was aiming for an opening to break the shield and blow the regime as he had used so far while avoiding attacks. However, even as the number decreased, there were no more gaps.
The charging strategy was also possible when Ed controlled his strength, so if you catch Ed’s sword the moment he strikes the shield, the shield will break and you will be defeated. Knowing this from his previous experience, Wenbert pondered over the weekend and came up with what seemed to be the answer.
The moment Ed’s sword slashed through the air, Wenbert put his hands together and charged toward the shield.
-Kwaaang!!!
It exploded because Wenbert blew mana into the shield containing flame mana and ran. The impact caused the skeleton’s arm and shield to fly off, and Wenbert immediately stretched out both hands and aimed at the skeleton.
-Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!
The magic bullets, which were shooting wildly with both hands, tried to block the attack with the sword side, but the body began to disintegrate one by one in the constant barrage of magic bullets. It aimed for arms and legs and fired magic bullets. In the end, the skeleton lost its arms and legs, which were its only weapons, and only its torso stood still.
Glodia shouted as Wenbert aimed his hand at the skeleton’s core.
“Wenbert Vianos, perfect score. Good job.”
“Whew… you worked hard.”
Wenbert bowed his head to Ed and moved slowly. Hearing the cheers of the students after that, Wenbert couldn’t help the corners of his mouth go up.
“Instructor Ed is very considerate.”
“I will. I heard the chairman was worse.”
“I did it easily enough.”
The juniors should have eaten a lot of taffy too… . The three-person room of the third year of the student council felt slightly regretful at the level of difficulty.
