22 – Road to the South
The track management team contacted the Nakambe Guild.
‘The ogre appeared.’
Ordinary people, and if it were a guild, if an ogre had appeared, the goal would be to gather the best power and defeat it, but the Nakambe Guild laughed as soon as they got the call.
“Guys honey mission, I’m here to feed the ogre.”
“Second guild master, can’t we take the new recruits?”
“Yes, seeing an ogre in person and surviving isn’t that easy.”
The guild members with experience laughed and said it, but for the newcomers who were thinking of going to collect herbs, it was nothing short of a thunderbolt.
The assistant guild master of the Nakambe Guild checked the number of people in the guild and selected about five. Two veterans with a box to feed the ogre and four new guild members to gain experience would be enough to get acquainted with the ogre.
“It’s more rewarding than digging herbs and it’s a valuable experience, so go for it.”
“Aren’t those young guys going to be food? hahahahaha.”
“Stop fooling around. If we delay any longer, the passengers might be criticized for being late. All we have to do is buy a cart full of meat at the back of the guild.”
Since the new members could not refuse the advice of the heavenly deputy guild master, they and the senior guild members who went with them bought meat at the market and pulled a cart toward the tracks. As I was pulling the cart, my mind was spinning as to whether this was right, but I relaxed slightly when I saw the seniors carrying light weapons and not considering combat at all.
One of the four people pulling the cart was a newcomer, but some time after joining the guild, he had heard of feeding ogres.
“Senior, I heard that our guild is in charge of bringing out ogres by feeding them, is that correct?”
“Oh? Yes. I’ve given it about seven times so far.”
The senior listened to the newcomer’s question and smiled. On the way to the ogre, the newcomers were constantly scared, so I was going to tell them in moderation, so I shouldn’t make a mistake.
“That ogre is the one our guild master met to subdue. At the time, it was a bit small for an ogre, but the guild master said he wanted to try taming it.”
“Can you tame an ogre?”
“When I went to subdue it after receiving a request from the guild, it sat down and patted its stomach after eating a lot of meat. The guild master thought it could be tamed with food, so I invested a bit.”
An adventurer who had seen ogres ever since he first received the subjugation request said, recalling that time. The guild said they were going to subdue ogres, so I wrote a will and went there, but I met ogres ten more times after that.
The guild master visited him at the moment he was hungry, fed him first, and educated him that he could just sit on the track. I usually eat while hunting monsters around me, but sometimes when hunting fails or I want to eat delicious meat, I was taught to sit on the track and wait.
“Then, can you say that you are almost an ogre in our guild?”
“That’s right. If he dies, the guild master will be angry?”
I also remember seeing the guild master shaking at a drinking party, wondering if he would make more money if he killed a kid since he was a smart guy. After hearing the senior’s story, the new recruits were able to get rid of half of their fear of ogres, and without the unfortunate event of tipping over the cart, they arrived at a place where they could see a train in the distance, pulling a cart full of raw meat.
“By the way, where are the ogres and people sitting?”
There were three people on the tracks instead of the ogre: a silver-haired man, a purple-haired woman, and a black-haired man.

The knights of Ed and Mosterinos guided the people from the Nakambe Guild to the place where the ogre’s corpse was.
“Ugh…!”
“Wow…!”
The guild members of the Nakambe Guild were upset when they saw the ogre’s corpse in complete disarray. How much blood flowed from the ogre’s body. Even after a long time had passed, the thick scent of blood lingered around, and the body of the ogre with thick blood scabs was quite disgusting to see.
‘Everyone has a weak stomach. Do you have little practical experience?’
Ed saw the retching of the guild members and thought the knight was a little better.
The knight saw a more terrifying figure in a state where the blood didn’t harden, but he was able to move past it with a frown on his face. Ed said to the senior guild member, who seemed to have come to his senses, while the new guild members ran to the corner and vomited.
“I want to dispose of the ogre’s corpse right away, is that okay?”
“Ah… that might be…”
In the Nakambe Guild, it was a simple matter of feeding the ogres and receiving money from the track management team, but things got complicated for no reason. The senior guild member hesitated to answer because he did not expect such a situation at all. The two men were strong men whose ability to defeat ogres without any damage was difficult to gauge, and it would be strange to question why they became like this because it was originally the right thing to do to defeat monsters.
“Were you two traveling by train?”
“Yes. I was going south.”
Ed answered the guild member’s question, and the knight answered with a slight nod.
From the standpoint of the Nakambe guild and the ogre, it was just unlucky. The ogre was just sitting on the tracks to fill the stomach by using what people gave them to eat when people were sitting here, as he had done a few times, but Ed, who was overcome with frustration due to 200 defeats at Setin on the day he interrupted, was riding.
“The settlement will probably be handled by the track management team. The ogre’s corpse is um…”
It would be better to check with the dedicated dismantler, but the senior guild member used his experience to check the body of the ogre. It’s because the front is covered in blood, but it’s normal to have been decapitated and died. Frowning, I lifted up the ogre’s body, and there were few injuries on its back.
“It looks like there is no damage to your back at all. I’ll contact the track management team to tell you that it’s a good product. I think you can get off at the next station and get paid….”
“You’re not sure? It looks like you’ve been feeding them so far.”
At Ed’s words, the guild members smiled wryly and nodded. Considering the risk and amount of money usually spent on subjugating ogres, I only used this method because it was several times cheaper to just give them food and chase them away.
“Then, please tell the driver. I didn’t think about getting paid by calculating the amount in such detail.”
However, seeing that the knight did not say anything, the senior guild member looked at Ed and asked.
From noble mtl dot com
“Did you by any chance subdue it alone?”
“It’s no big deal.”
No matter how tame the ogre was, the senior guild member took the new members and came out of the forest because he did not want to get further involved with a monster that he could subdue alone and say was no big deal.
“Wait. We have to eat that meat, so we’re chasing flies.”
“yes….”
After hearing the pale-faced new members of the guild, Ed took Glowyn back to the train.
“I was watching. Did you defeat the ogre by yourself?”
It was impossible for the engineer who found the ogre to not see what Ed was doing by walking out alone. In the case of the ogre’s corpse, he had to talk to the guild, but in the case of the reward, Ed thought it would have been faster to consult with the engineer.
“Yes. I asked the person in the guild, and they said that it should be received from the track management team, is that correct?”
“I’ll have to look up the rules, but it’s probably strange. Basically, we ask the passengers to defend the train in case of an unexpected attack, not subjugation. We asked the guild to move the ogres…”
The engineer swallowed his saliva as he said that. Of course, that would happen if you follow the rules, but the wizard in front of you was a wizard among wizards who returned after defeating an ogre by himself. I thought something bigger would happen if I mentioned the principle, so I decided to buy some time.
“Could you get off at the next station and spend some time? I think we should talk about the reward money.”
“Okay. I hope it doesn’t take up too much time.”
The departure of the train could not be delayed any longer, so Ed returned to the cabin with Glowin and parted ways with the driver of Mosterinos.
As soon as they returned to the guest room, Glowin asked Ed.
“How did you defeat Ed? Did you act like a necromancer when you saw all the people you saw looked bad?”
“I used a curse to control some variables, drained it with blood loss, and killed it by slitting its throat.”
At Ed’s neat explanation, Glowyn imagined the state of an ogre, but there seemed to be no reason for people to be so stunned. When hunting large monsters, it was common sense even if you were not an adventurer or mercenary to slash them with a sharp weapon and induce bleeding.
Glowwin decided to pass it on, thinking that it was because adventurers and knights had little practical experience. But it seemed necessary to report to Carla, so I took out my notebook and wrote down what Ed had said.
“Mr. Glowyn, isn’t it enough to write down?”
“I’m going to brag to Glodia. I did this with Ed. Would you like to tell me?”
Glowyn presented Glodia as her shield, and Ed smiled and nodded.
‘Looking at the way they grumble, the two of them are family.’
While talking for a while, the magic locomotive started to depart, and Ed unfolded the ecology of the southern monsters he had covered before leaving the cabin.

When they arrived at the next station, Ed was escorted by a flight attendant to a large office with Glowyn. The crew told the track manager what had happened, and the track manager, who entrusted the work to the Nakambe Guild for a small bribe, sighed. It was a bit disappointing that the ogre, which had been making good profits, had disappeared.
“Mr. Frozenborn, I think you’ll need to stay for a day to settle the bill properly.”
It took quite a while to transport the ogre’s body and accurately check its condition, and the guild master of the Nakambe Guild had to know about such a big task, so the track management team leader decided to earn a day.
“Okay. I’m going on vacation after losing my job, so I have some free time. But I want to go to the South as soon as possible, so I hope you take care of things quickly.”
Ed subtly pressed, and the track management team leader, wanting to avoid facing the Archmage’s wrath, nodded with a firm face.
