27 – Southern Saint
As soon as Ed and Glowyn got off the train, they were greeted by the steamy air. Compared to Tabia, which can be said to be slightly south of the center, the air has become hotter. Glowwin, who was wearing rather thin clothes, got off the train that maintained the proper temperature due to the magical tools and fanned her hands to see if she could not adapt.
“It’s hotter than I thought. Mr. Ed, did you buy light clothes?”
“Yes. I think it would have been quite hot if I had come dressed like that.”
Ed was also wearing the light clothes he had bought from Tabia, but the heat was slightly cooled by applying the cold element. I tried to maintain my normal body temperature perfectly, so a lot of mana went into it, so I compromised a bit. Ed didn’t know that the south was so hot that the use of cold magic was limited.
Ed and Glowyn pulled the carrier out of Lake Coast Station. The square in front of the Rake Coast station, the largest city in the south comparable to the Rica Coast, where the Vatican and the Holy Academy are located, was lined with statues of gods just like the Rica Coast. Glancing at the statue, Ed could see that it was different from Ricca Coast.
‘There are few goddesses.’
The plaza in front of Rica Coast Station had more statues of goddesses than statues of men. However, the number of goddesses here was small and the size of the statues was a bit small. It seemed that people believed more in the male god involved in battle because it was a place where powerful monsters existed as much as they survived in the barren environment of the south. I slowly walked down the stairs of Lake Coast Station while watching the large and clearly armed statues of men.
“I’ll have to apply for an interview first.”
Ed told Glowyn on the train that he was going to the south to meet the saint, so Glowyn understood right away. Ed looked at the huge map in the plaza to find the building of the Church of Truth, the church where Maria Cetin Quasar, the niece of Enild Setin Quasar, resides as a saint.
Near the plaza, there was a large church that gave authority over combat, and when I turned my head slightly, I could see the church building. And when I looked around the outskirts, there was a cluster of churches that bestowed the power to help in daily life. The Church of Truth, Ed’s destination, was located there.
“I found it.”
“I found it too. Since it’s on the outskirts, should I grab a cheap inn?”
“Check if you can get help from the church, and if you can’t get help, book a room.”
At that time, Glowyn smiled slightly and said.
“Shall we share a room again?”
“I couldn’t help it on the train or on Tabia, but I think it’s better to respect privacy here.”
Ed was thinking of staying on the Lake Coast for a month or more and practicing the ecology of southern monsters. I don’t know how long Glowin’s vacation will be, but I thought it would be better to live separately for the time being, but Glowin said succinctly.
“Nothing happened on the way down south, right? Mr. Ed, can you stand it anymore?”
“I might be working on the skeleton all night long, but Mr. Glowwin won’t be able to sleep if I’m around.”
“aha.”
Glowin also had trouble with that. I’ve seen Ed use ice magic so far, but I’ve never seen him use a skeleton. Of course, as Ed is a super-class necromancer, he would handle it very well, but I thought it would be quite scary to see the moving bones in real life.
Considering that he would contact Kala on the Lake Coast to get information and provide it, it seemed that there would be no restrictions on his movement if he booked a separate room. If you have to go out with Ed, you can make an appointment and go around. Having come to his own conclusion, Glowyn decided to stop mentioning the room issue to Ed and asked something else.
“The saintess Ed will meet must resemble the headmaster of Quasar, right?”
“I heard that it’s my nephew, isn’t it? I haven’t heard anything about its appearance.”
“It’s a family where aunts and nephews are consecutive saints of the same church… It seems a little different from our house.”
At that time, Ed obtained information that he had not given much thought to until now at Glowwin’s words.
“Was Principal Quasar a saint?”
“Because the middle surname Cetin is used by a saint. Did you think that Cetin was added because it was the principal of the Cetin Divine Academy?”
“Uh… yes.”
I thought Cetin was the surname given to the principal of Cetin Divine Academy, but Ed now knew that it was a middle surname given to saints. If you think about it, Ed also received the surname Frozenborn when he became a super-class necromancer, so I wondered if it was a position similar to that of a saint.
‘Though it’s completely different.’
He thought that there was a huge difference between a person who believed in God and exercised his power and a castle that was received by cutting monsters very well.
As Ed and Glowyn made their way north from the station to the Cult of Truth, they surveyed the people and buildings around them. People’s clothes were shorter and thinner than those worn by Edna Glowyn, but there were also people who wore long clothes. The people in long clothes seemed to be quite wealthy people who could use cold magic tools.
Ed arrived at the Church of Truth while identifying a nearby restaurant that seemed to have a lot of people stopping by and even keeping an eye on cultural facilities. As befits a church building, there was a small statue of Trillia, the goddess of truth, at the entrance, and there was a sink for visitors to quench their thirst. Glowyn went straight to the sink and took a sip of water from the cup that was lying there.
“The water is a bit cool in the shade. Ed, do you want to drink it too?”
“Yes. I will take a sip.”
Glowin filled the water and handed it to Ed, who drank some cool water and entered the church building. When I entered the slightly open entrance of the church, there were several long chairs for prayer, and there were elderly people who seemed to be older, who had come into the church to avoid the sunlight, sitting on the chairs and dozing off.
The priest entered cautiously, found Ed and Glowin standing at the entrance, and approached with quiet steps.
“Brother, sister, what brought you here?”
The priest said with a warm smile on his face.
“I’m here to see Maria Cetin Quasar. If it’s difficult to see you now, I’m here to make an appointment. Is the saintess there?”
“It is impossible for outsiders to see the saint without a letter of recommendation. Do you have a letter of recommendation?”
“I have a letter of recommendation from Enild Setin Quasar.”
Ed opened his suitcase, pulled out a piece of paper, and showed it to the priest. The priest read the paper and slightly frowned. Ed could fully understand the reaction because he knew that the letter of recommendation had the word ‘necromancer’ written on it.
“Yes… um… Instead, it seems impossible to have a private meeting with the saintess. She is an important person to us.”
From noble mtl dot com
“I understand.”
“Please sit down and wait.”
The priest pointed to the bench at the far back, spoke to us, and then walked into the podium.
“It seems that this reaction is normal.”
As Ed sat down in his chair, Glowyn answered as she sat on the far end of the chair on the other side.
“It’s because we can still meet. Hurry up and come under the protection of the saintess.”
“I think he sent me because he thought he would be the principal of Quasar, but I’m not sure.”
Ed thought that a church with a little destructive power would have been easier to accept. However, the Church of Truth, Ed, remembered Enild’s authority well the day he saw him for the second time. It occurred to me that Maria Cetin Quasar would use that power that could control space and make only the truth speak.
After waiting quietly without disturbing the sleeping people, the priest who greeted Ed and Glowyn walked up to Ed.
“The preparations are over. Leave your luggage and follow me.”
“Yes. I’ll be back for a while.”
As I walked down the hallway following the priest, I came across a larger space than the prayer space. The priest opened the door to the room in front of where the priests’ quarters were. A sweet flowery scent emanated from inside the door, and inside was a woman with white hair sitting in a seat, and a paladin with dark brown hair was standing next to her.
“You can go in.”
“yes.”
As Ed entered, the priest quietly closed the door. Ed quickly walked over and sat down on the chair across from the saint. Perhaps because he sat down without the saint’s permission, the Holy Knight next to him narrowed his eyes slightly at Ed. Although it was a little strange for Maria to act like that after knowing that she was a saint, she thought it was possible because she was a necromancer.
“Ed Frozenborn, are you a necromancer?”
“yes.”
‘I used the room of truth.’
Ed clearly said ‘No’, but ‘Yes’ came out of his mouth.
“Mr. Frozenborn, when you came down from the North, what purpose did you not come down with?”
“I came down without any purpose. To be precise, I would say I wanted to get out of the North?”
“When I finished my assistant instructor job at Cetin Divinity Academy without any problems and headed south, I wasn’t the purpose at first. What did you come to the south for?”
“I’m here to beat a strong monster.”
Maria Cetin Quasar, a white-haired woman who heard Ed’s words, blinked her large golden eyes twice and looked at the paladin Arebizu Guardian next to her. Arebizu noticed that gaze and spoke to Maria.
“Saint.”
Maria, who came to her senses after hearing Arebiju’s words, looked at Ed and asked again.
“Hey… Why are the monsters so strong all of a sudden? I want to know the reason.”
“I will let you know more about it once I receive the saint’s protection.”
Ed bounced slightly at Maria’s question. Seeing that, Arebiju grasped the handle of the sword at his waist tightly and got ready to pull it out at any moment.
“How dare you… a necromancer want to make a deal with a saint?”
“Arrebijou. It’s okay.”
Maria said that Aunt Enild had to use the saint’s protection on Ed, who could not use it a few times, but she had no idea if it was really good or not. To come down from the north without thinking and to try to hunt monsters in the south as soon as I finish my life in the center.
“Are you going to answer any other questions?”
“I’ll listen and report back.”
At Ed’s words, tendons sprouted from Arebijou’s forehead.
“Do you really need my protection?”
“I need it to unleash the power of ‘Necromancer’.”
“I’d like to know how strong Mr. Frozenbone is. Can you tell me?”
Ed thought about answering that question for a bit, then he had a suitable example in front of him.
“A paladin who is still by my side can still win.”
“you!”
“Frozenborn Mr. Arebijou is a strong paladin that I believe in. If I can defeat such Arebijou with the power I have now, I think it will be okay to protect you in my name. Arebiju, can you deal with Mr. Frozenborn?”
Maria looked at Arebijou and said. Arebijou immediately nodded and answered.
“If the saintess will allow it, I will cut off the head of that necromancer.”
Currently, the parlor is working to tell only the truth, so Arebijou said sincerely.
“Areviju, are you planning to kill the person your aunt sent? Just check your skills. Mr. Frosbone, let’s go outside. There is a suitable place.”
