032. Delphine’s Ten (3)
“But what?”
Richer swallowed hard as memories of that time came flooding back. When Delphine complained, he continued speaking slowly.
“The goblins were all dead before we could even get close. I definitely didn’t see them draw their swords, right? But they were all dead… What happened?”
“What? Hmm…….”
Delphine thought that he might be better at swordsmanship than she had expected. He was a nobleman, so he could learn a little from a great swordsmanship teacher and be able to defeat goblins with one stroke. Delphine continued to evaluate him.
“I see you learned a little swordsmanship. Well, if a noble can’t even do that much swordsmanship, he should be kicked out.”
“Is that so?”
“Then~ Dian, you can kill that goblin in one shot?”
Delphine replied nonchalantly and took the lead again. Richter watched her back and muttered quietly enough that no one could hear.
“I was a hobgoblin…….”
In less than half a day, they were able to arrive at Gerdin Village. The villagers had already received the call, and even though it was still night, they gathered at the entrance to welcome the ten. When they reached the village square, they saw a bonfire lit in the middle, surrounded by drinks and snacks. As the ten naturally sat down, Delphine raised her glass and shouted.
“For our safe return!”
“For!”
“For the safety of Gerdin Village!”
“For!”
In an instant, the hall became noisy. The townspeople also ate, drank, and enjoyed themselves, and the banquet became even more abundant. It was a day that was even more joyful for them.
As the banquet that started in the middle of the night continued until dawn, Delphine, whose eyes were wide open, suddenly grabbed the wrist of a village girl who was carrying food and roughly dragged her away.
“Whoa!”
“Oh, who’s going to eat it? Let’s just have fun together. Come here. Sit here.”
Delphine tried to force the village girl to sit on her lap. The other agents turned their heads away, their faces blank. The injection that had caused her to be demoted from 1st Lieutenant had been activated again. If you tried to stop her then, she wouldn’t hesitate to throw a fierce punch, so the agents just didn’t care and enjoyed themselves.
Most of them were people who had followed Delphine from the mercenary city of Sharr, so they thought that they would get a woman as a reward. The village girl’s wrists were stretched out because she had been pulled so hard. She continued to struggle, but no one around her helped her. Delphine grabbed her waist tightly.
“Ah, oh, let me go……. Ah.”
“Why are you being so prickly? Just stay still.”
Delphine, who had been pulling the woman more roughly as she struggled, put her other hand between her front legs. At that moment, a shock strong enough to make her head spin hit her forehead.
-Thud!
“Ugh!”
“Hey, Captain Delphine!”
“Captain! Are you okay?”
Delphine, who had just woken up from the shock, rubbed her forehead and felt something.
“What kind of kid is that… huh? Grapes?”
What was stuck to her forehead was a horribly broken green grape. Was this the only thing that could have caused such a shock? Delphine, unable to believe it, pushed the village girl away and looked around with her eyes wide open.
Those who followed him from Shar were so loyal that they would even pretend to die if he ordered them to do so. Then, the new additions here were the villagers. I wanted to find out who they were and break all their teeth.
But… …right across from me, I saw a man rolling a green grape with his finger with a dry expression.
“This, Icarone…….”
Yes. The man who was pretending to aim the grapes at Delphine again, with no intention of hiding the fact that he had done it, was none other than the 10th Lieutenant, Icarone.
“Don’t cause trouble. I’ll shoot another one.”
Delphine snorted at his words and stood up. His tall, muscular body was strong and sturdy, and just approaching him was enough to intimidate him.
“Huh, now you’re acting like a sergeant? Why, did you want to look cool to the villagers? Huh? Did you even lift a finger when you were slaying the hobgoblins?”
Delphine strode toward Icarone, spewing out the words she had been holding back. She looked ready to throw a punch. Judging by his size and appearance, the sergeant major would not be able to withstand even a single blow. However, Icarone did not blink even once as he approached her.
“Why can’t you speak, you punk~!”
Delphine swung her fist in anger. At that moment, five or six agents, led by Dian, rushed in.
“Hey, Captain! No, Brother Delphine! If you cause another accident, you might get fired!”
“That’s right! Maybe I should live with my brother!”
“Stop it, stop it!”
“Let go of it, you kids!”
The six men were shaking together as a group because they were so strong. After wrestling for a while, Delphine collapsed on the floor in exhaustion, and the commotion that was not a commotion ended. Icarone looked at them with a mysterious look and went to sleep.
The next day, when Icarone came out, the crew, including Delphine, lined up neatly to greet him.
Delphine, who had woken up from her drunkenness, heard about yesterday’s events. Of course, it was an unfamiliar story that he had no memory of. He could have completed a difficult mission perfectly without any casualties and been promoted to sergeant major again, but it would be difficult if there was a problem with the insubordination.
Icarone, who had been looking at them without any change in expression, said as he climbed onto the white horse Leon.
“Let’s go back.”
The 10th Lieutenant is still incomprehensible. Delphine frowned and followed Icarone. She followed him without saying a word because she had committed a crime, but it was going in a completely different direction from the Byren Castle.
Delphine, unable to contain her curiosity any longer, went to Icarone and asked her.

“Sergeant, why are you going this way? Do you have another mission?”
At Delphine’s question, Icarone stopped talking, blinked, and slowly opened her mouth.
“Isn’t this the way?”
Delphine was momentarily dumbfounded by Icarone’s words. This man must have taken the lead without thinking.
“Th, th… If you don’t know the way, why did you go ahead?!”
“I thought Leon knew.”
“Leon, what is that…….”
Delphine, who was about to get angry at Leon, made a bewildered expression. Icarone was pointing at her white horse with her index finger. Delphine became angry and grabbed Icarone’s reins as if she was pulling him away.
“Ah, ahh… I’ll be leading from now on, so stay out of the way. Richie! Take care of the sergeant. I’ll be leading from now on. Everyone, turn around!”
“Turn back!”
The members all turned around at once with a powerful chant. They had finally reached the right path after two days.
That night, as I was wondering if I should camp out again, I saw a small village in the distance. Delphine approached Icarone and said.
“The kids had a hard time wandering around, so how about resting at the inn in the village today?”
Normally, I would do as Delphine pleases, but since it would cost money, I asked. Icarone nodded while keeping her gaze fixed in front of her. Delphine smiled coolly at that and turned around to shout.
“I’m resting in that town today!”
“Wow~!”
The cheers of the soldiers could be heard. They had been through a lot, but they wanted to sleep comfortably. However, the atmosphere in the village was strange. Although it was still early evening, most of the lights were out, and the entire village was dark.
“What kind of gloomy neighborhood is this……”
As I tried to approach the place where the light was on, the light went out and I heard the sound of the door being locked. As I went a little further into the village, I found a place where a small light was leaking out. Judging from the wooden sign with the shape of beer carved into it, it seemed to be a tavern. Delphine and Dian ran over and knocked on the door.
-Thump, thump, thump!
“What? We are soldiers belonging to the lord of Byren’s Ieri. Let us ask you something.”
At that moment, a middle-aged man with a dark complexion and a frown opened the door halfway and spoke.
“We’re closed for business today. Go away.”
Dian approached the owner with a sad smile as he gave the order to evict guests with a stern expression.
“Hey, master~. Look at our condition. We’ve been fighting off hobgoblins to ensure the safety of the villages nearby, and we’re in terrible shape. You don’t have to give us food, so can’t you just let us sleep on the floor for a day?”
He made it sound as if he had come to work for this town, but the tavern owner had no interest in it. Instead, he continued speaking with a sharp expression as if he would attack if he went any further.
“Didn’t I say no? It’ll be the same everywhere else, so get out of this town!”
“Well, with that temper……. Are we some kind of group of thieves?”
Seeing her master getting overly angry, the kind-hearted Dian also felt aggrieved and tried to argue with him. At that moment, Delphine stopped Dian.
“Dian, let’s get out of here. If we’re being treated like this when we shouldn’t be welcomed, we won’t be.”
“Huh…… I understand, Captain.”
Delphine and the ten men left the tavern, leaving the owner’s disapproving gaze behind them, and began to pitch their tents at the edge of the village. No matter how gloomy and unfriendly a place may be, it is much safer inside the village than outside. With only a few people, this is a way to reduce the number of night watchmen by one.
However, as soon as the individual tent assigned to the 1st Lieutenant was set up, Icarone was the first to go in and sleep. Delphine shook her head as she watched his back and began to set up a large tent with the rest of the men. As they were veterans of camping, the large tent was quickly set up and the men, except for the night watchmen, began to fall asleep one by one. And so the night gradually deepened.
“Ugh…… Ugh…….”
“What, what does this mean?”
Dian, who was unusually light-headed, jumped up and shouted. At the sound, Richer, who was next to her, rubbed his eyes and asked.
“Ahh… What’s wrong, Brother Dian?”
“Didn’t you hear that? It was a woman sobbing… Did I hear that wrong?”
“What is a woman with nothing better to do crying at this hour? Go get some more sleep.”
Richer pulled the blanket over his face and tried to sleep again. Dian tilted her head and tried to lie down again.
“Ugh… Ugh.”
-Bam!
Two men stood up at the same time.
“You, you heard that too?”
“Uh…… yes, uh, it’s definitely coming from outside…….”
Dian and Richer walked out of the tent, barefoot and carrying only their swords. It was deep night and the fog was thick, so they couldn’t see even an inch ahead of them. A woman’s sobbing could be heard over and over through the fog. Richer followed behind Dian, wrapping his arms around her shoulders with goosebumps.
“The sound definitely seems closer… right?”
“Oh, that seems to be the case. But do we have to go? Or else we’ll have to wake up the other members and…….”
“fizzle.”
Reacher, with a sad expression on his face, perhaps out of fear, was following behind Diane against his will. At that moment, Diane interrupted him and listened.
“Ugh…… Oh, Mom…….”
The sound was close enough to be heard clearly. It was a much younger voice than she had thought. Dian carefully walked toward the source of the sound, holding her sword in her hands.
In what seemed to be the center of the town square, there was a well and a platform in front of it. And on the platform, a long-haired girl wearing a pure white one-piece dress was sitting with her knees buried in her lap.
