Apocalypse in Water Episode 12
Episode 12
I grabbed Bomi’s shoulder and asked again.
“Is it true that Jiyeon is alive?”
“It hurts.”
“Ah! Sorry!”
I realized I was using too much force, so I let go.
Jiyeon’s death was the biggest regret and hurt in my police career.
So I chased after the Ark Church to the end and tried to feed them shit, but the damn world went underwater.
Bomi looked straight into my eyes for a moment, then sighed.
“Haa~ Honestly, Jiyeon’s disappearance wasn’t your fault. As you know, it was the fault of the parents and the cult kids. And more than anything, Jiyeon was grateful to you.”
When I heard that, instead of feeling relieved, I felt anger welling up in my chest.
But I didn’t lose my cool because I’ve experienced these feelings countless times while working as a police officer.
I asked in a calm voice.
“But Bomi, what is the evidence that Jiyeon is alive?”
“A few days ago, before the world went underwater, a package arrived.”
“A parcel? What was inside?”
“There was a note, a note, and an arrow.”
Notes and notes aside, what about arrows?
Seeing me tilting my head, Bomi asked with a hint of annoyance.
“No way. You don’t trust me?”
You might ask back, “How can you believe that we saw that?”, but that’s not a very good interrogation technique.
“No. It’s not that I don’t believe it, I’m just curious about what happened. What did the note and the note say?”
“There was nothing written in the note.”
“Blank notebook?”
Bomi nodded.
If it was a blank note, how did you know that Jiyeon sent it?
It was absurd, but like a skilled interrogator, I asked calmly.
“So, what was written on the note?”
“Yes. The note said to shoot arrows when the world was underwater and monsters were attacking. At first, I thought the archery club kids were playing a prank. The arrows were like toys made out of sticks. You know? The ‘water sleep’ meme.”
I nodded.
‘물잠아’ is an abbreviation for ‘water-locked apocalypse’ and is a popular SNS meme among children.
The long rainy season and the doomsday predictions of the Ark of the Covenant combined to lead the MZ generation to a game of authenticating life-saving equipment on social media.
Sometimes a luxury yacht is uploaded for flexing, but most of the time, the photos are of playful things like dolphin-shaped inflatables, large plastic basins, and stuffed ducks playing in the water.
“But, when I asked the archery club members, no one said they had sent a package, and there was no address or name written on it. So I looked at the note again, and I knew right away that it was from Jiyeon.”
“No, I get it. How?”
“I looked at the handwriting and it was Jiyeon’s.”
Bomi’s eyes looking at me were filled with confidence.
In a world submerged in water, you can’t even verify handwriting, so is it something you have no choice but to trust?
“Then, is this the arrow that Jiyeon sent?”
I pointed to the arrow that was stuck in the ground and had been shot with a rope tied to it.
“I told you, they’re just children’s toy arrows.”
“That arrow was a big hit. It was like a tank-catching Javelin FGM-148. It was very useful in the Russian-Ukrainian war.”
When the story about arrows came up, the boy next to me opened his eyes wide and chimed in.
If it’s a Javelin, it’s an anti-tank missile. Looks like the kid is a military fan.
I was about to ask the boy the whole story, but I felt like I would hear a long explanation typical of nerds, so I asked the person in question.
“oh my god?”
“that is…….”
Bomi explained what happened.
Bomi was listening to music with her noise-cancelling headphones on, so she didn’t notice the world going underwater at all.
As expected, my guess was right.
Monster fish don’t react to things that don’t move.
When Bomi later came out of the room, she saw pieces of flesh falling off along with the excited blood.
I was so shocked that I tried to call the police, but the phone was unavailable.
So I ran to the house next door to ask for help.
But surprisingly, Hoyoung was being chased by a monster.
“Then. So you two weren’t biological siblings?”
Hoyoung struck an exaggerated pose, placing his hand made of the letter N on his chin as if trying to make Bomi laugh, who was depressed thinking about her deceased parents.
“Hey. Why are you doing this? You can tell at a glance that I’m more handsome than you.”
“What are you talking about? You look like a little kid.”
When Bomi tried to hit Hoyoung on the head with a hammer, Hoyoung quickly hid behind me.
Hoyoung was a pretty boy with white skin, big eyes, and a high nose, but his slightly protruding belly and hidden jawline gave him the impression of an actor in his fifties.
On the other hand, Bomi was a healthy beauty with dark skin, dark eyebrows, and a firm body, typical of a gym girl.
Bomi’s gloomy mood seemed to disappear thanks to Hoyoung’s witty joke.
The story continued.
“I thought I had to save Hoyoung. I didn’t know what to do. Then, I remembered the note. It said, ‘If the world is flooded and a monster appears, shoot an arrow.’ I ran home and got my bow and arrow. Then I shot the monster that was trying to attack Hoyoung. He died after being hit with one shot.”
“It’s the same guy that fell just now, and he died from one hit?”
“Are you talking about a monster with arms and legs and a fish head?”
When I nodded, Bomi answered.
“Yes, that’s right.”
“You just shot an arrow on the rooftop and it didn’t work. So you’re saying you killed him with one shot?”
“yes.”
“No, how?”
“By shooting a bow.”
When I was frustrated by the explanation that was like a roundabout way of thinking, Hoyoung gave an additional explanation.
“The arrow that my older sister just mentioned was the arrow that my older sister Jiyeon sent me. It was a toy-like arrow made of tree branches, but it had incredible power. Unlike regular arrows that bounce off the monster’s body as soon as they hit it, that arrow got stuck in the monster’s body and killed it right away. It’s real.”
‘Yes, it’s a different arrow,’ I nodded as if I understood, then shook my head.
No, it’s not like that can be understood like that.
A toy arrow made of a tree branch, and it pierced the scales of the monster, which even a sword or golf club couldn’t, and killed it instantly? That’s ridiculous.
I was about to ask Bomi what on earth was going on, but I gave up on asking because of her gaze that was staring at me without any wavering.
The world is submerged in water, something that cannot be explained by common sense or science has happened, but isn’t this kind of incident just a minor phenomenon that isn’t even a sign of a miracle?
I decided not to bother with it.
“Then why didn’t you shoot that arrow from the rooftop? The arrow that Jiyeon sent?”
“That’s right, it was just one step.”
Ah. So that’s why you wanted to come over to our east.
“Instead, I tried shooting with archery arrows, but there are some that don’t work. I had no choice but to hide on the 19th floor, but the monster bastards destroyed everything, so there was no water or food, and I was wondering what to do, and then the plane took off.”
The next thing I knew was what happened.
However, as I listened, a question arose.
“But why didn’t you recycle the arrow that Jiyeon sent you?”
“Recycling?”
Bomi blinked at my question and asked.
On the other hand, Hoyoung seemed to have noticed what I meant.
“Ah! So there was a way like that!”
Although Hoyoung was young, his literacy and comprehension skills seemed to be superior to Bomi’s.
But if you ask me who would survive the longest in a world submerged in water, I would pick Bomi.
It wasn’t because of her basic physical strength or strength, but because Bomi had the skills.
An archer capable of long-range strikes, capable of shooting unidentified arrows that can kill monsters with one shot.
If what the kids said was true, those toy-like arrows had tremendous power that no nail gun could match.
Hoyoung explained to Boyoung, who was puzzled as if asking what he was talking about.
“Sister. Just pull out that branch arrow and shoot it again.”
“Ah! That’s right. If that were the case, I would have shot and killed all the monsters.”
Bomi snapped her thumb and index finger in regret.
“Bomi. But where are the notes?”
“Notes?”
It is said that the toy-like arrow can kill a monster in one shot, so there is a high possibility that the blank notebook delivered with it contains some secret or mysterious power.
“It’s in my room.”
Should I move this to Building 108?
I looked down at the bead bracelet on my wrist and thought for a moment.
Were the notes and arrows really sent by Jiyeon?
And what secrets are hidden in them?
If it’s true, does this bracelet I received from Jiyeon also have some hidden secret or power?
No matter how much you worry, you will never know the truth.
“Bomi, do you want to go get your notebook?”
“No.”
“You can’t? We have to retrieve the arrows and recycle them.”
“No, I can’t. I’m too hungry to go.”
“Ah. Okay. Then let’s eat first.”
I brought fresh food that hadn’t spoiled yet, bread, milk, and water from the 17th floor.
Bomi and Hoyoung ate food and drank water ravenously as if they had starved for ten days.
“Remember~!”
Bomi ate all the food and patted her stomach.
“Okay. Let’s go now, sir.”
“Hoyoung, don’t go, stay here.”
I looked back at Hoyoung and said.
“If you need anything from home, just let me know. I’ll get it for you.”
“Excuse me, can you bring me a family photo that I took with Mom and Dad?”
Hoyoung answered with a pretended bright expression, but the corners of his eyes were slightly red.
“Okay, I got it. I’ll definitely bring it to you.”
“Oh, and drones too.”
“Drone?”
“I have a drone that my dad bought me for my birthday, and I think it will help me with reconnaissance.”
“Oh! That’s a good idea.”
I patted Hoyoung’s head.
Well then, let’s get ready to move on now.
