There Is No C in My Grades (2)

Personal Tactical Evaluation
: Selected Difficulty [A+]
: Student Information [2nd Year Combat Division Arna Kristindottir]
: Clear Record [00:06:24] – Achieved New Record!
───
“Whew. Is it a new record?”
Arna, just finishing the evaluation and coming out of the synchro room, checks the result sheet and smiles with satisfaction.
“Six minutes. That’s one minute shorter than last semester.”
The previous A+ record was around seven minutes. It was a record newly set in the second semester of last year. It means it has been shortened by about a minute in just one semester.
For reference, both records were set by Arna.
“One minute in half a year….”
Unbelievable. A difference of about ten seconds in top-tier records is considered a huge gap. But to break the record by minutes.
When did their skills improve so much?
It was as if someone had cast a spell on them.
─Hahaha! That idiot! How can he fall over without even lasting a minute!
It was then. Laughter erupted from another room. It was the room next door.
“This voice….”
A voice heard somewhere before. Arna stuck close to the wall and tiptoed slightly.
She peeked into the next room through the glass partition.
“Ah….”
As expected, the person she anticipated was in the synchro room. It was Kang Tae-hoon, who had competed for the top spot last year.
─Hey, blackie. How many tries has that guy had?
─Exactly. Five.
Next to him was the lonely giant, Rashid.
“….”
But Kang Tae-hoon and Rashid were not important right now. Arna’s gaze was focused on another person….
─Is B0 difficult… Is that what you’re saying… I…?
A male student, Shin Yoon-sung, was sitting on the floor in despair.
─Hehe. I knew he was a loser, but this is too much. Do better, you pathetic jerk.
─Are you laughing? Instead of comforting him, you’re mocking him. Are you a psychopath?
─Hey, blackie. Did you hear that? That guy called me a psychopath. He might really be a psycho.
─Oh.
Shin Yoon-sung seemed to have come for an individual tactics evaluation. But he was in a state of depression, not having achieved the desired results.
Then Shin Yoon-sung went back to the kiosk.
─What? You’re going to try again? Why don’t you just lower it to a C and relax?
─A C in my grades is unacceptable. That’s my life creed, Shin Yoon-sung’s creed.
─Hey blackie. It’s hot, let’s go get some ice cream. To Baskin Robbins.
─Oh.
More than that, it was fascinating. How could those three be in the same space? If you look at each one individually, aren’t they all flawed in some way?
Especially when it comes to human relationships.
─Baskin Robbins, huh. Get me one too. Mint chocolate chip. A single king size will do.
─Mint? Are you kidding me? You want to die? Hey, blackie. Let’s go.
─Oh.
Kang Tae-hoon and Rashid turned their backs. Before their eyes could meet, Arna quickly crouched down.
“Gasp…!”
She barely managed to hide herself. Arna held her breath, waiting for the two to leave.
─Blackie. Do you have any favorite flavors?
─I do. Black sorbet.
─Hey. Can’t you eat something white for once? Do you always have to eat something black?
─Oh.
The voices of the two grew distant. Now, only Shin Yoon-sung was left in the synchro room.
“….”
Arna hesitated. Should I go to the next room…?
“No, no! Why should I move because of that person? We’ll just end up arguing anyway, right? Yes! It’s perfect to stay strangers like this! That’s right!”
Even as she said that, Arna tidied up the scattered wooden swords, turned off the lights in the synchro room, and opened the door.

This is a big problem. The B0 difficulty was a higher wall than I expected.
If it was barely manageable, I could at least have some hope. But this is a situation where I can’t even try.
I couldn’t last a few minutes before it was game over. It was too much to handle the incoming monsters and beasts with just this spoon.
Creak─
Is this the limit of a third-rate villain?
Is this all I can do?
Tears streaming down.
“Hmm. Hmm.”
What should I do? I have less than a week left. I have to somehow improve my grades within that time.
“Hmm hmm! Hmm!”
Do I really have to lower it to a C, as Kang Tae-hoon said?
But then I’ll have to retake the course later.
“Huuuuum!”
Should I just be content with a C in the personal tactics evaluation?
Having one C in my grades isn’t that strange.
“Huuuuuuum! Hmm hmm! Hmm hmm hmm!”
No.
I can’t.
Even if it kills me, I can’t accept a C.
Settling for a C means that I’m only worth that much.
A man’s pride won’t allow it.
“Heyyyyyyyyy!”
“….”
At that moment, a piercing scream tore through my eardrums. It was Arna who had come to find me.
“How long have you been there?”
“My goodness….”
I must have been too lost in thought. I didn’t notice Arna coming up next to me.
“Whew….”
Arna took a deep breath and casually tucked her side hair behind her ear.
“Have you been looking at the evaluation?”
“Can’t you tell by looking?”
“…Listen to you. I can’t even hit you for real.”
Then Arna went to the kiosk.
Beep─!
“The difficulty is B0… Six attempts in total… All failed?”
“Did you come to mock me too? Do you think I’m pathetic? Do you wish I didn’t exist on this planet? Do you think it’s a waste for me to even breathe?”
“No! What are you suddenly talking about! I never thought that! Ah! Why are you crying again! Don’t cry just because of some evaluation! You’re not a girl!”
Arna quickly took out a handkerchief and wiped away my pouring tears.
Maybe she’ll let me blow my nose too.
“No blowing your nose!”
Arna quickly withdrew the handkerchief and put it back in her pocket.
No compassion.
“So, which part isn’t working out for you?”
“Everything.”
“…”
Arna squinted her eyes and glared at me. She had a look on her face as if to say, “What kind of idiot is this?”
“If that’s the case, why don’t you just lower it to C? There’s no need to insist on B0.”
“Don’t underestimate a man’s pride.”
“Ah, yes…”
Arna refrained from saying more. She guessed that continuing the conversation would only make things more tiring.
“B0 means training beast 2-2, right?”
“And the monsters too.”
“It’s definitely hard for you to handle alone.”
Arna nodded. Having seen me all this time, she would know my skills better than anyone.
I asked.
“What do you think I’m lacking?”
“Everything.”
“…”
I got the same words thrown back at me.
But everything? That makes me seem like a hopeless person.
Well, it’s somewhat true though.
“So, is there no hope at all?”
“As of now, yes. Because you don’t even have the basics down.”
“The basics?”
Arna turned her eyes to the spoon lying on the floor.
“Are you just swinging that spoon around?”
“Of course. That’s what weapons are for.”
“Sigh. That’s why it’s not working.”
Arna shook her head. Then, she continued speaking while holding a wooden training sword.
“To handle a weapon well, you need to learn the proper stance and connected movements first.”
Whoosh—
Arna lightly swung the wooden sword, demonstrating a sword dance. Her movements were as graceful as those of a rhythmic gymnast.
“It’s the same with baseball. To swing a bat, you have to meticulously position yourself from head to toe, right? That’s how you get a good swing.”
Indeed, Arna’s sword didn’t seem like it was being swung haphazardly. In fact, even Kang Tae-hoon was like that before.
Everyone handled their weapons as if they were part of their bodies. Unlike me.
“So, you mean I need to correct my stance first… Is that it?”
If Arna says so, she must be right.
Well, I have been swinging the spoon thoughtlessly until now.
It wouldn’t be a bad idea to learn properly this time.
For the sake of immediate evaluation. And for future endeavors as well.
“Hmm… If you want, I could teach you. That.”
Arna seemed to say something, but I didn’t listen closely.
I was too busy taking out my smartphone.
I dialed a saved number.
Beep—
“Hey. Kang Tae-hoon. It’s me. Could you come over and teach me some sword techniques?”
“What…?”
“Yeah. The sword. And bring some ice cream when you come. The mint chocolate chip I mentioned earlier.”
“What, what…?”
While I was focused on the call, Arna stood frozen beside me, her mouth agape.
She looked like she had received a huge shock.
