The Ultimate Inspector, Kang Ji-hyeok - Chapter 54
Only Noblemtl
Episode 54
I approached Yeo Jin-ju, placed my hand on the table, and asked again.
“Did the witness definitely witness the moment of murder?”
“Yes, sir. Otherwise, how would you have known that the fountain pen was a weapon?”
Tiit.
I pressed the remote control to change the evidence screen.
Dark night.
It was a photo taken from the hallway, inside the president’s office with the lights off.
It was a picture of a table stand with a light on.
“This photo is a crime scene photo that our investigators created to look like it did that day.”
The judge nodded while looking at the photographic evidence.
I turned my head and asked Sehee.
“According to the testimony of suspect Lee Se-hee, he was wearing the same black suit that night. Is that correct?”
Sehee answered me with a surprised face.
“Yes, this is the outfit.”
It was a part that matched the heavenly sphere.
He told me to wear those clothes today.
“Then what about those black gloves that seem like they’ll sell well?”
Sehee shook his head, raising both hands and showing his gloves.
“I wasn’t wearing gloves. There was no reason to wear black gloves and meet the CEO of my agency so late at night.”
“okay.”
I turned my head again and asked the witness.
“You said clearly, right? The lights in the president’s office were off. And that stand was the only thing on. Is that correct, witness?”
Nod nod.
Yeo Jin-ju nodded her head vigorously.
It looked like the love was burning.
The desire to make Se-hee the culprit was eating away at her.
“That’s right, inspector.”
She still thought I was on her side.
‘If you’re going to do something bad, you need to be smart. Yeo Jin-ju.’
“But, it’s strange. Do you see the fountain pen over there now?”
A commotion.
Audience members craned their necks forward to try to find the fountain pen in the photo.
The judge also looked at the photo intently.
“You can’t see it. It’s under the stand over there. Let me zoom in for you.”
Beep.
When enlarged to three times its size, a black, gold-plated fountain pen was revealed.
“The fountain pen used as a weapon is a black, gold-plated fountain pen. But it can’t be seen in that dark environment. But······.”
I took out a fountain pen of the same model from my bosom.
It was just the right size to hold in your hand.
“Okay. If you hold it in your hand like this, you can only see the fountain pen nib. Should I swing it around? If you suddenly want to stab someone in the neck, it should be like this······.”
Paat.
He swung it with a devilish expression.
“Whoa!”
There were screams of surprise from the audience.
Even the judge flinched.
“If I swing it like this, does it look like I’m holding a fountain pen, witness?”
Yeo Jin-ju, sitting on the witness stand, looked bewildered.
She just realized it.
That the prosecutor is not on your side.
“According to a 2004 investigation by the U.S. prosecutors, the rate of mistrials in the U.S. is 24%. In Korea, the rate of mistrials is much lower because judges make serious decisions. The reason for this, 74.9%, is contamination by eyewitness testimony.”
I looked at Yeo Jin-ju and emphasized it once again.
“This is the case when someone deliberately lies, like Ms. Yeo Jin-ju.”
“Inspector! That’s too harsh!”
Yeo Jin-ju got up from her seat.
I walked towards Yeo Jin-ju, who was grumbling.
“Let me see that evidence again!”
Beep.
The documents for contract renewal piled up on the desk were turned out as evidence.
The document with the words ‘Yeo Jin-ju Renewal of Contract’ written on it was at the top.
Underneath it was Sehee’s contract renewal.
“This was the strangest thing I noticed when I first checked the scene. What if the president was murdered because of a new contract with the suspect!”
I looked at the judge and said seriously.
“Ms. Lee Se-hee’s contract should have been on the table in front of the sofa where she was murdered.”
The judge looked at the on-site verification photos one by one with sharp eyes.
“I see. If we were talking about renewing the contract, then that would be correct.”
Yeo Jin-ju, who was on the witness stand, refuted that statement.
That sounds plausible.
“She could have just killed her and put her back there! A vixen like Lee Se-hee could do that!”
I went in front of Yeo Jin-ju and placed the documents in my hand.
Percussion!
He put down the other documents he was holding with a loud noise.
And he looked at her and said.
“Even so! Shouldn’t the contract of the suspect, Lee Se-hee, be at the top? Not the contract of Yeo Jin-joo!”
A commotion.
The audience was in an uproar.
“Yeah, that’s right. That’s right.”
“Really? That witness······.”
The atmosphere has changed.
After just one performance, people started to suspect who the culprit was.
“Ms. Yeo Jin-ju, it’s true that you were in front of the president’s office. But the time was wrong.”
The judge looked up again and began to focus on my story.
“After Ms. Lee Se-hee left, the president must have been distressed. No, he must have been angry. After that, around midnight, you went to the president’s office. To talk about renewing the contract!”
Yeo Jin-ju looks at me with a blank expression.
Those eyes were so familiar.
Even the most skilled criminals are left speechless when faced with crucial evidence presented by detectives!
It was that look in his eyes.
‘Even if you’re an actor, you’d be speechless at this moment, right, Yeo Jin-joo?’
“As you know, the CEO has a fiery personality and always curses. He probably left Lee Se-hee’s contract renewal on his desk so as not to show it to Yeo Jin-joo and brought Yeo Jin-joo’s contract renewal. Then, he probably cursed at her and told her to sign it.”
“Stop writing novels, you damn prosecutor!”
Yeo Jin-ju stood on the witness stand and screamed at me in a fit of rage.
“Witness. From now on, you should know how heavy the witness stand is! You should know how serious the crime of testifying to a false witness is.”
I turned gently again, looking at the audience and the judges.
And the story continued.
“For a moment, the thought that the CCTV was broken crossed her mind. She thought this was an opportunity.”
“You knew that the criminal over there, Lee Se-hee!”
“No! You’re wrong. Ms. Lee Se-hee came to the office at 11 p.m. and the fact that the CCTV was broken was only known to you, who was in the building after 6 p.m.!”
He spoke while looking at the evidence, such as a fountain pen, in his hand.
“You probably pretended to sign, put the president at ease, and then shoved the fountain pen you were going to sign down your throat. You must have danced with big arms for 10 years while practicing to be an idol… so it wouldn’t have been difficult, right?”
I said, turning around and looking around.
“He must have looked around as he saw the president passed out with a fountain pen stuck in his neck. He must have been bleeding before he could even start. He must have quickly folded up the contract and placed it on the desk. Then, he saw Lee Se-hee’s contract underneath.”
I looked at Lee Se-hee and said.
With eyes warmer than anyone else’s.
“At that time, all these manipulations must have been going through my head. I must have been really angry when I read her contract. The revised contract had pretty good terms.”
Beep.
Lee Se-hee’s contract renewal, revised with a fountain pen, appeared on the screen.
“You probably haven’t seen the contract signed by Lee Se-hee, the suspect, right? It’s a contract that she personally revised with a fountain pen.”
It was a contract that stated that all expenses would be covered by the company during the contract period and that I could work freely.
Sehee also had a surprised expression.
“If it was a contract like that, I would have signed it right away.”
I turned my head and spoke to Yeo Jin-ju, who was standing in the witness stand again.
“The witness must have been shocked to see a contract that was completely different from his own trashy contract. That’s why he targeted Se-hee.”
I made a gesture of pulling out the fountain pen I was holding.
“I pulled out the fountain pen like this. From then on, blood would have gushed out like a fountain.”
Beep.
As evidence, he showed photos of the crime scene soaked in red blood and bloodstains on the wall.
Beep.
And the wound below the left ear on the president’s body was enlarged.
“There was his fingerprint on the fountain pen, so he couldn’t have done anything about it, and then he got so angry that he slapped her. Since Yeo Jin-ju is right-handed, the wound under the president’s left ear was caused by that.”
I said, waving my arms.
He approached Yeo Jin-ju, grabbed her right hand, and stretched it out.
A few rings glittered on each finger.
“The biggest ring on this finger passed right past the boss’ ear, causing a scar.”
“You’re talking nonsense! That’s why people call you the devil prosecutor when you write novels like that! You devil prosecutor Kang Ji-hyeok!”
The judge frowned and spoke in Yeo Jin-ju’s favor.
“Prosecutor. I think it would be better to leave out stories like that that have no evidence.”
I smiled.
He turned his head and called Hyejin to the audience.
“Detective Kim Hye-jin. Have the results come out?”
“Yes, sir. I just received it from the National Forensic Service.”
“Then please submit it as evidence.”
Hyejin handed the judge a few documents and a ring wrapped in clear plastic.
“This is hot evidence that just came out. I present it as new evidence. This is the bloodstain on the ring that Yeo Jin-ju dropped during the interrogation and the DNA test results of the deceased victim, CEO Yoon Seok-ju.”
The judge took it and asked Cheon Je-gu.
“Counsel. Do you admit the new evidence?”
“Yes. Of course I admit it. I respect Prosecutor Kang Ji-hyeok’s thorough investigation.”
“All right.”
A new piece of evidence photo has appeared on the evidence screen.
“This is the ring you were wearing. This can be seen in the interrogation room footage.”
“Yes, yes. It’s mine.”
“This ring has a large stone, but it is an imitation. The gap between the stone and the ring contained traces of the victim’s blood and skin tissue, and DNA testing showed that it was 99.8% identical to the victim’s.”
[Traces of blood found on the provided ring and skin tissue test results: 99.89% match with victim’s DNA.]
The National Forensic Service’s test results are out.
And this was the decisive evidence.
‘Evidence First’: This was the DNA test most trusted by South Korean judges.
“That’s right. I’ll be honest. That b*tch killed him first and ran away, then I went in! I wanted the boss to die, so I slapped him in the face and left him alone. Watching him bleed······.”
Yeo Jin-ju sat down on the spot and even shed tears.
Suddenly new testimony emerged.
The judge frowned and asked directly.
“Witness. Is that testimony credible?”
“Yes. When I entered, the boss was already dead. I was afraid that I would be misunderstood, so I slapped him in the face since he was already dead, and then I made it up like that.”
Yeo Jin-ju burst into tears and dug into the judge’s sympathy.
I squatted down and looked Yeo Jin-ju in the eye as I spoke.
“The president’s signature is not from being pricked by the fountain pen. It’s from the blood that came out after it was pulled out. Then, the fountain pen should have already been pulled out by then.”
Beep.
The evidence fountain pen appeared on a large screen.
“Oddly enough, this weapon wasn’t there at the time of the incident, but was recently discovered under the stand.”
Someone’s fingerprint was enlarged next to the fountain pen.
“These fingerprints are those of the witness, Yeo Jin-ju. They are the same as those found on the coffee cup left in our interrogation room.”
Yeo Jin-ju raised her head at those words.
Eagle-like eyes.
He glares at me with that devilish face.
‘Yes, Yeo Jin-ju. That’s right. That’s the real face of a criminal. It’s a look that no amount of acting can hide.’
“As you can see, there are traces of the victim’s blood and fingerprints on the fountain pen that match Yeo Jin-ju’s. It seems that Yeo Jin-ju intentionally left the fountain pen there to frame Lee Se-hee as the culprit.”
Beep.
The screen showed a scene from the interrogation room where he was being interrogated.
– From what I’ve found, it seems to be a fountain pen. The fountain pen that was used as a murder weapon at the crime scene is gone. I searched all around the sofa where the murder occurred, but it seems to be gone.
– If only we had that weapon, it would have been easy to catch Lee Se-hee, the prime suspect······. The problem is, we haven’t found the weapon.”
I turned my head and looked at the judge and said seriously.
“After this investigation, a fountain pen suddenly appeared. Perhaps Ms. Yeo Jin-ju took it and then returned it?”
I stood up and approached the judge, saying:
“There is another reason why it makes absolutely no sense that Lee Se-hee killed the president and ran away.”
Beep.
I pressed a button on the remote control.
With this, Se-hee will be completely transformed from a suspect to a witness.
