The Villain is Too Good at Sniping - Chapter 129
Only Noblemtl
Episode 129. Dungeon Break (2)
The original theme of this semester’s survival training was ‘trust and belief.’
Arsen gave the cadets a task that was not easy to solve, in keeping with the training they had received so far. They pushed the cadets into a dangerous situation without giving them any information, leaving only a message telling them not to give up.
Although they were each dropped into different areas, the main characters ended up in a tropical rainforest just like in the original.
An island reminiscent of Hawaii.
The main characters thrown here endlessly doubt themselves and search for the true meaning of this test, sometimes fighting each other, sometimes reconciling, and sometimes joining forces. In the process, they successfully complete the difficult end-of-semester training.
… that’s the original story.
I wanted to be minimally involved in this process. I could provide small assistance, such as providing housing, but I wanted the main characters to work through this training on their own.
Although physical growth and talent development are important, mental growth and bonding with colleagues are not easy to build.
That’s why I tried to make up for the animosity between Serin Annette and Kyle during their training in the interpersonal combat. I wanted to create an opportunity for Lara Stillheiden to become closer to the other cadets so that she could deal with them a little more easily.
He gave Airi some work to do to keep her from wandering around, and he tried to make sure that Kyle and Elin went through ‘that incident’ and reconciled with Esili so that things would go smoothly.
I thought things were going well. Kyle and Serin Annette didn’t clash much, and Ashlee was one step closer to discovering the island’s secret.
Up until that point it was fine. It was my mistake for not anticipating the variable that could cause an unexpected event.
I also felt like refuting it. If I could have predicted that a dungeon break would occur, I would have already been scouted by the Hunter Association and taken a position in their office.
“What’s going on? Why are there monsters on the island?”
“I don’t know! If I had known something like that would come out, I would have prepared in advance… First, please help me put out the fire inside!”
“Okay! Ashley, is there any way to do that?”
“If you touch it wrong, the whole camp will collapse. Let’s cover it with sand first.”
While the main characters, including Kyle, worked hard on their evolution, I sniped at the monsters from a distance.
“… How did things get so complicated?”
Things were clearly going well, but the camp was suddenly attacked by monsters and was half-devastated.
The entire camp was engulfed in flames due to a fire that may have started somewhere. However, the fire can be put out, and the camp can be rebuilt.
The real problem is that the monsters are here.
Although it is a world where the terms monsters and beasts are used interchangeably, there is an implicit classification system. If something looks like a ‘living thing’ at first glance, it is treated as a beast, and if it looks strange, it is called a ‘monster’.
The unidentified monsters that have just attacked the camp are so horrifying that anyone who sees them will feel sick. Of course, they are not creatures that originally resided on the island. If there were such a thing, my [Aura] would have reacted or it would have been noticed by other cadets.
And then a surprise event told me that there would be intermittent dungeon breaks.
The monsters that raided the camp were not the recorded beings encountered in the mock dungeon, but were actually monsters that poured out from inside the gate.
That’s also the center of the island. Originally, they were monsters that originated from ancient ruins that Kyle and Serin found after a long struggle.
‘Why on earth?’
Whatever it is, they are not the ones who will pop out now. They are the ones who will be encountered only after Kyle finds the ancient relics and discovers that the gate opens at a certain time.
A literal sudden event. Something strange has occurred.
I looked around with my [watcher’s eye] while holding the Glock. The situation was too strange.
Not only did a gate that wasn’t working suddenly open, but a dungeon break occurred. This makes no sense unless there was an external factor involved, such as someone intentionally touching the gate.
I saw something black gliding freely between the gaps between the monsters. It wasn’t a bird. It was a black bat the size of a man’s head.
‘…I wondered who intervened.’
He lifted his Glock and aimed at the guy. He concentrated his firepower on one point and fired a single bullet.
The bat tried to dodge my bullets by darting around as if to mock me, but the bullet I shot twisted freely and eventually pierced one of the bat’s wings.
-Keeeek! Keeeek!
The bat, which had been struggling, fell helplessly into the forest. It was nothing more than a servant horse. If you catch it and check it yourself, you will know for sure who sent that servant horse.
Since he lost one wing anyway, he wouldn’t be able to run far. It was the moment when I was sharpening my Glock.
“…Lord Zion?”
Chloe Garnet appeared with sand stuck all over her body.
“Why is that?”
“No, nothing.”
While it is important to catch the servant horse and find out who did this, it is equally important to protect the camp set up on the beach.
Above all, it is the result of my sweat and effort, which has been poured into almost every day of expansion and maintenance since I landed on this island.
It’s not a good feeling to see your carefully built camp burn down, especially when you’re in a state of confusion.
“First, let’s stop this monster and then talk.”
So, first of all, let’s start by blocking this dungeon break.
***
A total of 59 monsters attacked the camp.
They weren’t that dangerous. No matter how big they were, they were limited to the size of a slightly large buffalo, and the large monsters were few in number. Most of them were smaller than an average adult male.
The reason Lara Stillheiden and Chloe Garnet had such a hard time was because these monsters suddenly appeared all at once and they were so confused by the unexpected fire.
On this island, you can’t borrow the power of the spirits, and Chloe Garnet can’t handle water elements. You could have evolved by scooping up seawater, but in a panic situation, you tend to miss things that are right in front of you.
“What are you going to do, Zion?”
“You guys stay here for now and make sure there aren’t any other monsters left.”
“Are you sure you’re not going out alone?”
“Don’t worry, I won’t be going far. I’ll just take a quick look around.”
Esili looked unimpressed, but given the circumstances, one shooter had to stay here.
Dungeon Breaks tend to grow in scale each time they open. Weak monsters pour out first, and then bigger and stronger monsters pour out in the next dungeon break that opens.
So when the second dungeon break happens, stronger monsters than the ones that raided the camp today will come out.
First of all, we need to find out who did this.
“Mr. Zion. Can I not go?”
“For now, you stay here and help the kids.”
One of the lodges was burnt down, and the other was half-tilted. If Airi is away, there will be fewer people to maintain the camp. The more people there are to take care of the cleanup, the better.
Before leaving camp, I felt someone looking over my shoulder. When I turned around, Kyle Evanstair was standing there.
“We’ll take care of this. So leave the outside situation to Zion.”
“Since we can rebuild it if we do something, just take a look at the parts that can be saved.”
Time is gold now. After saying goodbye to Kyle for the last time, I ran straight into the forest.
The place where the bat fell is not far. I don’t know if it’s dead or not, but if I delay any longer, the master who sent the servant horse will take action first.
I advanced into the rainforest, cutting through the bushes with my dagger. I used both [Clairvoyance] and [Eye of the Watcher] to find the guy’s body.
A long, dark blood trail stretches across the forest. Soon, other forest beasts will smell it and flock there.
However, I could not find the body of the servant horse. It was as if another demon had taken it away, and only bloodstains remained, with no trace of the body.
“Hadahada, now you’re missing your work horse? You’re really good at getting things done, aren’t you?”
Instead, it reached a group believed to be the prime suspects in this incident.
I heard a faint voice and moved forward, keeping my composure. I quickly climbed up the tree, hid my body, and looked in the direction the sound came from.
In the middle of the forest. A clearing created by several fallen trees. Three adult men and one woman are there.
A faint sense of magic. It was the moment when I silently raised my Glock and aimed at the guys.
“Isn’t this what happens in life? Don’t get too worked up about it.”
“That’s why I told you! Don’t do it!”
“I was just trying to do a little test. I just did something for you that you were going to do later. Shouldn’t you welcome it?”
“It’s me who’s going to Arsene, not you. Balak, you crazy old man!”
A man and a woman arguing. However, for a moment, my eyebrows flinched at the name the woman uttered.
Jean-Pierre Ballack.
He is one of the key figures in the Mine Association, and is also the most insane person in the Mine Association, boasting a chaotic history in the original work.
That guy can pop up anywhere and at any time. He’s always looking for fun because of the terrible boredom he feels from living a life close to immortality.
But what’s important is that the guy who originally appeared towards the end of Act 2 has now appeared on this island.
“The exchange hasn’t even started yet. There’s no need to mess with the kids and mess things up. Why are you causing a dungeon break? Just because you’re bored?”
“I heard that it was something that had to happen anyway. And didn’t you say that it would be easier to control if you nip it in the bud? Even though I look old on the outside, my ears are still sharp.”
“If you correct it like that, then go to Arsene instead of me!”
The woman who had been screaming the whole time finally shook her head, as if she had grown tired of it.
“Lucille said, we shouldn’t touch Arsene yet. We’re not ready, and if we want to have even a slight chance of winning, we have to cut off the chairman’s head.”
“Before destroying Arsene, it is also important to step on the sprouts.”
“What if a professor comes?”
I watched the mines with my index finger on the trigger. First of all, there were too many of them. And the two of them, who were having a nervous conversation, were too much for me to deal with.
I looked at the watch on my left hand. It was still disabled despite the dungeon break.
Arsene’s faculty still hasn’t fully grasped the situation. Normally, they should have stopped training immediately, but their response is slow. Maybe they haven’t realized what’s happening on this island yet.
‘What should I do?’
A decision must be made.
Right now, there are two executives of the Mine Association in front of me. They are turning their backs on me, but without the bullets of faith, it is uncertain whether my attacks will work.
However, once a fight breaks out and the Watch detects the situation, the faculty will release the Watch’s functions that were disabled. Then, whether you proceed with the reverse summoning or whatever, the situation will calm down without incident.
Should we clash with the Mine Association here, or should we trust the faculty and wait and see?
Neither of these is an easy choice. I turned my gun toward the platinum-haired woman for now. Balak is currently an unkillable entity, but the platinum-haired woman can deal significant damage depending on what I do.
But at that moment, Balak, who was standing across from me, looked exactly where I was.
[My heart] was pounding violently. It felt like it was going to burst.
Just like the Duke of Esperland, I was overwhelmed by the momentum of the Mine Association executive Balak before me.
Jean-Pierre Balack, who had seen through my clairvoyance, smiled wickedly. Fortunately, the other minions had not yet noticed my presence.
Even if Balak gives a signal, the Mines will immediately chase me. It is impossible for me to deal with four Mines.
“Let’s stop here for today.”
“Are you just going to go back after making a fuss like this?”
“Didn’t you say that? What if the professors come? Lucille said it’s not time yet, so wouldn’t it be better to just leave?”
However, Balak seemed to have no intention of letting the other mine know about my existence. He continued to pretend not to know and continued to make excuses.
While the other minions looked on in bewilderment, only the blonde woman shouted in a loud voice.
But Balak smiled and turned into mist, disappearing in an instant. Now, only three mines remained in the empty lot.
At that moment, the watch blinked. There was a message from Arsene.
[Arsen AC: Sion Illionheart Army, are you there?]
