The World After the Bad Ending - Chapter 15
14 – Bread Shuttle
Sharin Sazarith.
One of the most unpredictable characters in the Firefly series.
Her eyes, as if containing the Milky Way under her languid eyelids, quietly looked at me.
Just that alone made me feel like something was piercing through me.
“What nonsense are you talking about? Are you still half asleep?”
I make an excuse.
“Then I’ll go ask the professor.”
I hurriedly reached out and grabbed the back of her neck.
“I was wrong. Stop immediately.”
Experts are unfair.
Fight fairly with timing and fabrication.
Sharin glanced at me with her neck still held.
When I let go of her neck, she spun around.
“I really like the fresh cream bread from the store at lunchtime.”
“I hate greasy things.”
“I like it.”
I barely held back a sigh.
“So I just need to bring it to you at lunch, right?”
“Yes, yes.”
This is the cost of silence.
“See you then.”
Sharin waved her hand languidly and headed straight to the Magic Department building.
Watching her back, I also turned my steps.
She’s fickle, but she keeps her promises.
At least until lunchtime, she won’t go around blabbing.
‘First.’
Let’s just do the assigned task.
No matter how much I have to be hated by Isabel, it would be troublesome to be hated for being lazy.
* * *
Today, too, I managed to scrape by Isabel in the morning class.
Recently, the gaze of the female students has become increasingly fierce.
Even the boys, perhaps due to the glares from the female students, do not seem to approach me.
Thanks to that, I am having a comfortable school life.
Anyway, since I am living such a busy life, I didn’t care much about friendships.
‘For now, it’s enough to focus on the main ones.’
Whatever it is, I have to put out the urgent fire first.
I packed my things and left the classroom.
Just in time, I saw the kids heading to lunch.
I followed them to the cafeteria.
Originally, I would have chosen something appropriate for lunch and then gone to the student council to find Nikita.
But today, for some reason, I couldn’t do that.
In the cafeteria, I bought a cream bread and a red bean bread for myself.
And I bought tea and a drink.
Just as I was about to move after packing them well in a bag.
I saw a familiar face on the opposite side.
There was a boy, surrounded by people, looking exhausted.
Messy brown bobbed hair and large round glasses.
The most famous person among the first-year students and a spiritist who contracted with the Spirit Lord.
Poara Silin.
“Poara, won’t you join our team? If it’s you, I can recommend you to the professor to join specially.”
“What are you talking about? Poara is going to join our team! The guy behind you, get lost!”
“Stop being so greedy! You all have a spiritist each! We don’t even have a spiritist!”
And now, this crowd is the Poara scramble.
After the mock battle, there will be the Demon Palace Battle.
They were trying to secure a skilled person like Poara in advance for that.
In the Demon Palace Battle, team members are the most important factor.
The level you can descend to depends on the capabilities of your team members.
Therefore, the mock battle originally had a strong self-promotion feel.
A PR to strong teams, showing that you have this level of skill, asking them to take you.
The professors also tried to create as many strong and good teams as possible.
So, the result of this mock battle was very important.
However, there are those who are wanted by all teams even without such mock battles.
That was exactly the case with Poara over there.
‘First-year students usually have to undergo about half a year of training before entering the labyrinth.’
But there are always those who are exceptional.
At Jerion Academy, they created a special class for such individuals.
Poara was not originally in the special class.
But he succeeded in making a provisional contract with the Spirit Lord.
So, whether by choice or not, he was currently in the special class and was scheduled to enter the labyrinth with his seniors.
Of course, Poara had not yet been assigned to a team.
That’s why the students were flocking to Poara like that.
‘Poor guy.’
No, is he really poor?
Thanks to the contract with the Spirit Lord, his life has become smooth sailing.
On second thought, there’s nothing to pity about.
Rather, I’m the one who worked hard but never even saw the face of a spirit.
“Oh, ah! Ha, Hanon senior!”
At that moment, Poara suddenly called my name while looking this way.
Why is he calling my name at this timing?
When I looked at Poara with a puzzled face, he sparkled his eyes like an abandoned puppy.
There was such earnestness in his eyes, pleading to be taken out of here.
Then, the gazes of the students surrounding Poara turned to me.
As if saying, who are you?
Oh, such arrogant looks.
Among them were third-year seniors.
But their gazes did not intimidate me at all.
It’s no wonder the girls in our department are giving me sharper looks.
I approached Poara and grabbed his arm.
The students’ eyes became even more piercing.
“There is a student council matter. I need to take Poara with me. Is that okay?”
I confidently displayed my student council badge.
The students hesitated and stepped back.
I felt the thrill of power.
After all, Poara is currently a member of the student council.
If I said I was taking him for student council business, they couldn’t say anything.
The students looked at me with resentful eyes.
It was the look of someone who had their prey snatched away.
So what, then? You guys join the student council too.
You guys shout it too, power is the best.
“Let’s go.”
“Yes!”
I led Poara outside.
Only then did Poara take a breath and relax.
He then bowed his head deeply to me.
“Ha, Hanon senior, thank you. You really saved me!”
“You’ve worked hard too.”
Come to think of it, Poara had that.
I decided to ask him one thing.
“Poara, do you have any thoughts of boycotting the student council later?”
“What, what? Me, do such a thing?”
Poara flailed his hands in panic.
He did it so violently that his glasses became crooked.
‘So he doesn’t have any particular thoughts now.’
Well, Poara’s life has changed completely.
But I’m still worried.
Even though the world has changed a lot already.
If he doesn’t participate in the boycott, the influence of the boycott workforce will be significantly weakened.
‘It’s not something that needs to be dealt with immediately.’
Let’s think about this a bit more later.
“Hey, Hanon senior.”
Then, Poara looked at me as if she had something to say.
It’s annoying to see a guy glancing around.
“What is it? If you have something to say, say it quickly.”
“I’m sorry I couldn’t be of much help during the Spirit Forest incident. I was hiding and couldn’t do anything.”
Poara said with slumped shoulders.
I’m pretty sure I told her not to come.
It seems she was worried about it.
“There’s nothing to be sorry about.”
“While you were fighting with Shinbi, I made a contract with the Spirit Lord. It was only after the contract that I realized you had collapsed.”
Poara mumbled, repeatedly apologizing.
For me, it was actually better that she didn’t interfere at all.
But it seems Poara didn’t feel the same way.
Seeing her like this, she’s not a bad person.
“It’s fine. Don’t worry about it.”
“Still, isn’t there something I can do?
It’s disgraceful to my family to just cause trouble like this. I want to do something for you!”
“Not really…”
I was about to say it wasn’t necessary, but then I stopped.
I rested my chin for a moment and then looked back at Poara.
“Then, can I ask for your help next time I need it?”
“Yes, of course!”
Poara’s face brightened up immediately.
She looks like a brown retriever.
‘I got a good card.’
A contractor with the Spirit Lord.
There will be many times to use her in the future.
And after thinking deeply, I realized that I could solve the boycott issue at the same time.
‘I’ll make good use of it.’
Somehow, I ended up being the contractor of the spirit lord I created.
I have to make full use of it.
After parting ways with Poara, I came to the building of the Department of Magic.
From time to time, the students of the Department of Magic looked at me curiously.
“That kid is really small.”
“Is he a first-year?”
“His name tag is red. Isn’t he a face we haven’t seen before?”
“Oh, then could he be the transfer student from the Department of Martial Arts?”
Among them, there were some who recognized me.
Anyway, the speed at which rumors spread is frightening.
Can they be that fast?
I continued to walk, roughly ignoring the students’ gazes.
Meanwhile, I looked around the corridors of the Department of Magic with curious eyes.
Unlike the barren corridors of the Department of Martial Arts, the Department of Magic had a lot of things.
‘It’s quite a sight to see.’
Various magical artifacts were displayed like art pieces.
As I walked, looking at them with interest, I soon arrived at the second-year classroom.
Thanks to most of the students going for lunch, the classroom was half empty.
The problem was that Sharin was not there.
‘Not here.’
I thought she would be here since she asked me to bring it to the classroom.
I decided to just leave it on the desk and go.
As I was about to step inside with that thought, I felt a presence behind me.
Just as I was turning my head back, I realized that the other person’s forehead was right in front of me.
Ah, it’s going to hit.
Bang!
With a cheerful sound, both the other person and I fell backward simultaneously.
“Ow ow ow.”
As I turned my head, clutching my forehead, I saw Sharin curled up, holding her own forehead.
She looked at me with a tearful face and protested.
“Why did you turn around then?”
“The one who approached from behind first is at fault.”
With the pain slightly subsiding, I approached Sharin.
When I extended my hand, Sharin grabbed my arm and staggered to her feet.
The aftereffects of the headbutt seemed quite strong.
“…The bread?”
It’s impressive that she looks for the bread first.
“I brought it. So where did you come from?”
“I went to pick flowers.”
“Where are the flowers?”
Of course, Sharin’s hands were empty.
Then she raised her languid eyes.
“No sense.”
“Yeah, sense is fine. Why do you have to say you went to the bathroom in a roundabout way?”
I said it knowing full well.
A slight dissatisfaction appeared in Sharin’s eyes.
“You’re prickly.”
“Because of what you did to me today.”
After being made to run bread errands, it’s no wonder I’m prickly.
Sharin looked at me for a moment without answering, then went into the classroom.
Following her in, I placed the bread bag on her desk.
“So, you won’t tell anyone about what happened earlier, right?”
When I asked, Sharin took out the bread bag.
Then, seeing the bread inside, she started to unwrap the red bean bread.
“Hey, stop right there.”
Seeing Sharin about to put the red bean bread in her mouth, I covered her mouth with my hand.
Sharin looked at me with eyes asking why.
From noble mtl dot com
“You asked for cream bread, so why are you eating red bean bread? That’s mine.”
“The cream bread is too greasy.”
“You said you liked it in the morning.”
“I changed my mind.”
Should I smack her?
“Herup.”
Then, Sharin suddenly licked the hand I had placed in front of her mouth.
When I recoiled in shock and withdrew my hand, she took a big bite of the red bean bread.
Her small cheeks were filled with red bean bread as she chewed and swallowed.
Watching her in a daze, I pulled out a chair and sat down on the opposite side.
“It’s delicious. Thank you.”
“You don’t look thankful at all.”
“Yeah, Belle told me to say thank you when I receive something.”
I sighed.
It was best not to get involved with this capricious person.
I was caught.
Reluctantly, I took out the cream bread and took a bite.
As expected, the greasy taste spread in my mouth.
I definitely prefer red bean.
Then Sharin stared intently at my cream bread.
“You said you wouldn’t eat it.”
“Things that belong to others always look tastier.”
Sharin leaned forward and opened her mouth wide.
“Ah.”
As her cute mouth opened, I could see her uvula.
I stared blankly and then raised my finger instead of the cream bread.
Snap!
Sharin’s mouth closed.
It looked like she was determined to bite off my finger if I put it in.
Reluctantly, to protect my finger, I offered the cream bread.
Once again, Sharin took a big bite.
There was whipped cream smeared around her mouth, but she didn’t seem to care.
She was busily munching and swallowing the bread.
Then she looked at me belatedly and tilted her head.
“So why did you buy this for me?”
I smacked her.
