Today is a sad yet somewhat relieving day.
It’s the day I quit the online game I’ve been playing for years.
In fact, I made up my mind to quit several months ago.
In the past, it used to give me dopamine, but now it only eats up money without giving me any dopamine at all.
Even so, I kept playing because of loyalty to my guild members, the affection I had for the game, and perhaps just out of habit.
Yes. Habit.
Like a cigarette that you can’t quit once you start, I just habitually logged into the game, pressed buttons, and hunted monsters.
From noble mtl dot comI had actually tried to quit a few times.
Even if it ate up my money, it should have done so moderately.
Due to the excessively toxic payment system, I thought I should quit quickly, but like a salmon swimming upstream, I kept returning and posting guild chat messages like ‘Recruiting for a raid to celebrate my return@@@’.
Now, I can quit. I no longer need to squeeze out a few drops of dopamine while playing this game like wringing out a dry rag!
‘I get plenty of dopamine from other places.’
With just half, no, one-tenth… maybe even one-hundredth of the money I spend on this game, I can enjoy various scenes of cute girls calling me a god every day?!
Isn’t it an incredible situation, to the point where I almost feel like I can hear exciting EDM music from somewhere beyond?!
Anyway, I handed over the guild master position to someone reasonably trustworthy, and sold off all my items for cash.
As a result, I was able to secure enough money to not feel burdened by donation amounts for a while.
I really poured a lot into this trash game.
Since it’s a game, I couldn’t get back everything I put in… but I had to think of the rest as the price of enjoying the game, there was no other way. I didn’t play the game to make money.
‘Good. I won’t have to worry about funds for a while.’
That doesn’t mean I plan to spend this money recklessly.
I want to enjoy this manga for as long as possible.
I did splurge emotionally during the Luka event… but spending big money every time reduces the thrill of enjoying the manga.
The hidden power meta!
It’s only natural that it’s much more fun to spend money strategically and gradually, thinking ‘Is this all?’ while testing the waters, rather than just spending it all at once!
And I’m a god, aren’t I? If a god keeps acting recklessly, the world becomes chaotic. I think it’s time to realize my mindset as a god.
Since I’m very serious, it’s better to refrain from using the bad term ‘over-immersed’.
At that moment.
Bzzz!
I quickly checked my phone at the sound of the alarm, and there was a push notification that the next episode had been uploaded.
‘It’s here!’
Well then, let’s check out today’s manga!
The latest episode was probably about the three of them being appointed as holy knights, right?
With a much lighter heart, I clicked on the next episode.
* * *
After the holy knight appointment ceremony.
The three people who met for the first time were introducing themselves to each other.
“From now on, I, Ophelia Transrente, will be your comrade as a Holy Knight. Miss Luca, Miss Linnea. I look forward to working with you.”
“My name is Luca Hebnician. I believe I am the most lacking here, but… I will work hard to ensure I do not hold you back.”
“I am Linnea von Einsberg. Please treat me as an equal comrade, regardless of my status.”
“I see! So you are the renowned Miss Linnea. It is an honor to meet you. And Miss Luca, you said you were the second in your class at Luphrantia Academy?”
“Yes, that’s correct.”
“Do you know Irina? She graduated as the top of your class.”
“We are close friends. Do you know her?”
“Yes, we studied together when we were young. Irina’s friend is my friend as well! I hope we get along well!”
“I look forward to learning from you, Miss Ophelia.”
Luca grasped Ophelia’s outstretched hand with a smile.
“Indeed. There was something I was curious about personally-“
It was Ophelia’s role to break the ice in conversations.
The emotion reflected in her golden eyes, which shone like gold, was curiosity.
She had a talent for swordsmanship, but her learning of knowledge was very slow. Therefore, she would ask questions without hesitation to those around her.
She would ask questions that might make one think, ‘Is it okay to ask this?’ without any hesitation, and those who did not match her wavelength often found her tiring.
“I see…! Indeed, Miss Luca. There is much to learn from the second in class at Luphrantia Academy.”
“Your words are too kind, Miss Ophelia.”
Fortunately, Luca and Ophelia were quite in sync.
Linnea watched the two silently.
Originally, according to Eirene’s words, she should have been wary of these people and ultimately aimed to become a Holy Knight alone—
But the situation had changed, and Eirene now blindly believed in the Gwoden Church more than anyone. If she caused a dispute in this situation, it was clear that she would not leave her alone.
Even with that thought, Linnea could not easily open her heart. She knew the world was changing in an ideal direction… but the fear she felt from her mother and sister had not completely disappeared from her heart.
At that moment.
“You were here, everyone.”
The person they were supposed to protect, Saint Erin, walked slowly with a Bible in her arms.
Every time she walked, her overwhelming divine power pouch swayed incessantly.
“From now on, you will live and eat at the cathedral. Personal rooms have been prepared for the three of you, and if you have any preferences regarding food, please feel free to tell the nun in charge. I will inform you as soon As a mission arises, so in the meantime, please rest and stabilize your mind and body.”
“Yes!”
“And…”
Erin looked at the faces of the three in turn, then sent her gaze to Linnea and spoke.
“Thank you once again for accepting the appointment as a Holy Knight, despite the sudden divine decree. As I mentioned, forcing religion is not what Lord Igogodon desires. I believe everyone has a different pace in accepting the will of God. So, please Don’t feel too burdened… Very slowly, I hope you can feel the pure facts of God?”
Lineah bowed her head quietly.
Erin knew it too. That she wasn’t very devout. Was she saying this to be considerate of me? If not—
“…I will keep that in mind, Holy Lady.”
“Good. Then everyone, please follow me this way.”
* * *
After everyone was assigned their rooms.
It was the moment they arrived at the door of Ophelia’s room, the last one remaining.
“Holy Lady. I have something to ask.”
“To me? Sure. You can ask me anything.”
Ophelia bowed her head politely, showing the courtesy of a knight.
In terms of purely ‘believing’ in God, Ophelia was the most intense among the three.
Naturally, she revered the Holy Lady the most and maintained her manners.
“Recently, those who have had an audience with the Holy Lady have all mentioned the… profound… of the one true God, Igogodon…”
“Do you mean the pure facts?”
“Ah, yes! That, the pure facts. I’ve heard rumors that they felt it… Is it true?”
Despite Ophelia’s very basic mistake, Erin responded with a very kind smile.
“Yes. The pure facts of Lord Igogodon have guided many to the path of enlightenment.”
Hearing this, Ophelia’s golden eyes sparkled as she patted her chest a few times.
“Could you perhaps give me the opportunity to experience it as well?”
“Are you referring to yourself, Ophelia? Since you are chosen by Lord Igogodon, there is no need for you to experience the pure facts through me…”
“It’s a very embarrassing thing to say, but… I learn much slower than others. I even made a mistake just now… So, by experiencing the miracle of God here, I want to become a proud Holy Knight, not Ashamed in front of my comrades. If it’s alright with you, Holy Lady, please grant me this.”
Erin drew a smile on her lips at Ophelia’s words.
“If it’s the will of Ophelia, chosen by God, then it is ultimately the will of God. How could I refuse someone who wishes to receive the pure facts directly?”
“Then…!”
“Come this way, Ophelia. I will show you how wonderful and magnificent the pure facts of God are…!”
Ophelia approached Erin and knelt on one knee.
Erin hugged the Bible tightly, rubbed it against the pouch of divine power… and slowly brought it to Ophelia’s forehead.
At that moment, a pure white light emanated from the Bible and engulfed Ophelia entirely.
And… a few minutes later.
The light faded, and Erin slowly put down the Bible.
“How do you feel, Lady Ophelia…? The divine and yet simple truth of God?”
“Uh…”
From noble mtl dot com
Ophelia slowly raised her head.
Her golden eyes were trembling.
From Erin’s perspective, this wasn’t a particularly strange sight. Those who experienced ‘God’s miracle’ often trembled in surprise, shedding tears as they witnessed the spiritual moment when the simple truth of God permeated every corner of their being.
But―
“Um… is it over?”
“Pardon…?”
“I mean, the light came from the Bible, so I closed my eyes for a moment… is it over?”
“…???”
―An entirely unexpected response came from Ophelia’s mouth.
