The Yellow-Haired Villain in Soaring Phoenix’s Novels Also Desires Happiness - Chapter 227
5. Two Carriages
“What the hell, what’s going on?”
As Mu’en just held the senior’s small hand and stepped out of the darkness shrouded by the dark moon mist, he was startled by the scene before him.
Everywhere he looked, there were people.
The periphery of this vast space, from the streets to the rooftops, from the shadows where sunlight couldn’t reach to the hidden places of the building’s windows, silent figures in trench coats had already surrounded this place, exuding an elite aura and efficiency, silently watching Mu’en and Anna as they emerged.
But at this moment, Mu’en felt a bit awkward.
It was like the visitors at a zoo watching a giant panda; Mu’en could even see some of their eyes filled with gossip and excitement that were completely inconsistent with their pale, nerdy faces.
So I’m the giant panda, huh?
What the hell, are these silent watchers so bored?
Do you believe I’ll report each of you for being useless, you b*stards!
Mu’en silently complained, but immediately reacted, pulling the senior behind him and fixing his gaze on these people, saying sternly:
“What do you want? Look closely, the senior is no longer a serpent person, and I have evidence to prove that she is not the murderer of that count’s son. You have no right to keep holding onto her!”
The silent watchers exchanged glances, habitually choosing silence, but eventually, Jinze stepped forward and said:
“We have no intention of targeting her; we are just here for a contingency.”
“That contingency no longer exists; you can leave now.”
“But someone wants to see her.”
“Is anyone there? Who?”
“You’ll know soon enough.”
The crowd parted, revealing a black carriage silently waiting in the shadows at the end of the road.
Mu En glanced at the carriage; like most carriages favored by nobles when engaging in misdeeds, it was pure black, devoid of any insignia. Even the horses were specially trained, so quiet they seemed almost lifeless.
Yet, Mu En felt even more on edge. For someone as familiar and silent as the figure before him to command such respect from the upper echelons, it was highly likely that a bigwig from the Silent Agency was seated within.
And for such a person to want to meet his senior, who had countless ties to the Silent Moon, it was hard to imagine anything good coming from it, even if the moon was already dead.
“No! Right now, my senior has nothing to do with the evil god; she is no longer someone the Silent Agency can…”
“Alright, junior.”
Just as Mu En was about to refuse, Anna gently tugged at his arm from behind.
Looking at the broad figure standing in front of them, as if capable of blocking out all storms, Anna’s eyes instantly filled with tenderness and affection.
But she interrupted Mu En’s words, softly saying:
“Let me meet him.”
“Is that… okay?”
Mu En turned back, frowning with unease:
“The Silent Agency did that to you before, and… after all, it’s the Silent Agency; their power is so great that even the Duke’s residence finds it hard to influence them.”
Mu En knew that his earlier words were merely a bluff.
Although Anna’s snake transformation illness had been cured, given that she had once been regarded by the Silent Moon as the perfect vessel for their arrival, the Silent Agency still had the right to investigate and interrogate her again.
After all, when it comes to evil gods, one can never be too cautious.
“Don’t worry.”
Anna brushed a strand of hair from her forehead, her gaze also sweeping over the black carriage, a charming smile gracing her lips:
“I think I have an idea of who is looking for me.”
“Who?”
“I’m not sure yet, but you’ll find out later.”
“But…”
“There’s no ‘but’! I’m not a child; I don’t need you to protect me from everything.”
Seeing that Mu En still looked a bit uneasy, Anna stood on her toes, leaning close to Mu En’s ear, her breath fragrant like orchids, and whispered:
“And… although it might take a long time to adapt, I’m much stronger now than you might think. From now on, I can protect you.”
“Stronger?”
The fragrant breeze tickled, stirring the heartstrings, but Mu En maintained a serious expression and asked:
“How strong?”
“Well…”
Anna playfully blinked, pecking lightly at Mu En’s cheek. “Didn’t you just feel it, junior?”
Damn!
This little enchantress!
Mu En gritted his teeth, wishing he could put this teasing little sprite in her place right then and there:
“Just now, I was injured and not in good shape. Otherwise, how could I possibly…”
“Alright, alright, I know you’re quite impressive too.”
Anna flicked her finger against Mu En’s forehead and smiled:
“Don’t worry, I’ll be fine.”
“Really?”
“Really.”
“Then be careful. If anything happens, you must call me. Don’t try to bear it alone like before.”
Mu En stared into Anna’s eyes, speaking earnestly:
“If there’s danger, no matter when or where, I will come to save you, senior.”
“Junior…”
Hearing those shy-inducing words, Anna momentarily lost herself, her gaze fixed on the remarkably handsome boy before her, her eyes shimmering like a pool of autumn water.
“Honestly, with you saying that… how can anyone pull themselves away?”
…
After a sweet exchange, Anna finally turned toward the carriage.
Mu En kept his eyes on her, ensuring she safely boarded.
Since he was dealing with the Silent Ones, they surely wouldn’t stoop so low as to personally deal with a frail girl.
This meant that Anna could safely board the carriage, indicating there wouldn’t be any traps.
“Is it really just to talk?”
Mu En let out a sigh of relief.
But at that moment, he sensed something was off in the atmosphere around him.
Turning his head, he noticed a large group of Silent Ones glaring at him with expressions that seemed to say they were stuffed with dog food.
Recalling what had happened earlier, Mu En naturally had no good feelings toward this group of Silent Ones. He snorted coldly, disdainfully saying:
“What are you looking at, a bunch of single dogs!”
Silent Ones: “…”
“Um… Mu En Campbell.”
Jin Ze, who has always prided himself on being emotionless, clenched his fists tightly at this moment and said:
“There are people… looking for you.”
“Who? I’m not in the mood to see anyone right now!”
“Are you sure?”
Jin Ze’s tone was somewhat meaningful as he pointed to one side.
Mu En followed the direction of his finger and looked over…
It was another carriage.
However, unlike the previous black one, this pair of carriages was extravagantly luxurious, their golden outlines shimmering in the sunlight. Even the exceptionally large horse had a distinct air of superiority, glaring sideways at anyone who dared to look.
But none of that mattered; what was important was the family crest on the carriage.
The Dragon-Slaying Sword, the Duke of Campbell’s house!
And at this moment, when the Duke and Duchess of Campbell were not at home, the only ones who usually had the privilege to travel in such a manner, announcing the presence of the Campbell family to everyone, were…
The Duke’s residence.
The head maid.
An.
Mu En’s legs went weak, darkness swirled before his eyes, and he nearly fainted.
