Chapter 39: Sir, That’s Not How You Use a Bad Woman
The glow on the magic stone flickered, and a mimicry letter was projected onto the table, the envelope opening by itself, and the letter flying out and unfolding—an entire process filled with ceremonial sense.
Socia’s handwriting appeared on the letter, as if just penned.
“To Tiffany, the scenery at the Dead Sea border is quite nice. Despite being a perilous wasteland, it does not lack the majestic beauty born by the earth and the ocean. I’m sharing a few nightscapes with you.”
“I’d rather you come back with your team sooner than sending postcards… Huh?!”
Tiffany’s resigned muttering halted as her relaxed eyebrows suddenly furrowed, a serious look overtaking her face.
On the letter, the handwriting of the executioner lady slowly vanished, and several images emerged.
The first image was a night view from the lord’s castle terrace, with the executioner standing against a backdrop of dark clouds and a churning sea.
But that wasn’t the focus. Chu Yan was held in front of her, posing together for the photo. The second image was on the return carriage, with Chu Yan sleeping on the executioner’s lap.
This was clearly intentional!
“Snap—”
The café’s serving maid heard the sound of porcelain shattering and looked in the direction of the noise, only to see the cup in the customer’s hand had broken.
Her expression darkened, her eyes filled with an unsettling gloom, still holding the handle while the body of the cup had vanished.
The tabletop was a mess with spilled coffee and shattered pieces.
Fortunately, the customer had used magic to block the coffee spill, preventing it from reaching her clothes.
The maid thought it was a cup from the shop that had exploded, and she hurried over in a panic to apologize:
“I’m sorry, I’ll get you a new one right away. Did the guest get scalded?”
The stunningly beautiful woman with purple hair gently shook her head, revealing a polite smile. However, paired with the gloom on her face, the smile was filled with a sense of oppression.
The maid was frightened, her neck shrinking back.
“It’s okay, it was my magic that accidentally went out of control. It’s my fault. Please bring another cup, and here’s some money for the cleanup.”
Tiffany left a tip, changed tables, and calmed herself down.
She knew Chu Yan would be so close to the executioner, surely because of her previous encounter, Chu Yan still treated her as the former executioner.
But that woman, Sosia, could have used the excuse of “not convenient to be close during official duties” to avoid it, yet she took the opportunity to get affectionate, even deliberately showing it to her!
Tiffany prepared many vicious words, planning to reply to Sosia.
But just responding in a letter didn’t feel satisfying enough, she wanted to confront her directly through a projection call, but then she remembered she was in a café, and considering her manners, Tiffany had to let it go.
After all, Sosia was bound to come back.
“Perhaps, I should send these postcards to Chu Yan’s parent from the Black Ice Dragon lineage. What would her expression be?”
Tiffany drained her coffee in one gulp, composed herself, and left the café.
……
On the carriage.
Chu Yan woke up from the soft thighs of the executioner, sat up, and stretched.
Although this pillow was quite comfortable, sleeping with her waist bent on the seat inside the carriage was a bit torturous.
She had felt this way for several days now.
But every day, she would still rest on the executioner’s jade-like legs, a reluctant move because she was invited, and Chu Yan had to give the executioner face.
“Where are we now?”
“It’s still early, you only slept a bit today, is something on your mind?”
So in your eyes, if I don’t sleep and laze around every day, it means I’m in a bad mood?
However, Chu Yan remembered she had said something similar to Xia Noya.
“I’ve been sleeping too much these past few days, haven’t been active, and I have too much energy, it’s affecting my sleep quality.”
“I see, how about running after the carriage outside? That should burn some energy.”
Seeing the executioner seriously making the suggestion, she was truly taken aback.
Asking her to chase after the carriage was even more straightforward than having her pull the carriage.
Not only would it consume physical strength, but it would also shorten the travel time.
“I’ll pass on that, when my sleep quality gets bad enough, I’ll probably be able to fall asleep from exhaustion again.”
So, the worse the sleep quality = the better the sleep quality.
The executioner lady was momentarily stunned, somewhat bamboozled by this guy’s logic, which was indeed out of the ordinary.
But upon closer thought, it was nothing more than an excuse he had found to avoid moving.
The executioner herself was bored out of her mind, yet she managed to contain the tedium within, not letting it show on her face.
What she wanted most now was a diversion, to receive a reply from Tiffany and then see her infuriated reaction, cursing someone out.
That would be too amusing, letting Tiffany approach people recklessly with her status.
From noble mtl dot nete
Although Chu Yan was also quite special, getting close to him wasn’t a big deal, but Tiffany was still acting a bit out of line.
The executioner’s gaze fell on the young dragonkin beside her, his uniqueness stemming from his three “mothers.”
Women from the three great dragonkin families.
This matter was highly secretive, unknown to most of the higher-ups in the Longyan family, and they didn’t delve into it.
As long as one had the bloodline of their own dragonkin, that was enough. Moreover, Chu Yan wasn’t vying for a position within the family, which made his presence even less noticeable, with no one probing into his origins before he joined the Longyan family.
If it weren’t for Sosia’s status as an executioner, she probably wouldn’t have been able to learn about this matter.
Even Tiffany had sneaked in for a meeting, making one wonder if the Black Ice Dragonkin had privately contacted Chu Yan.
“Chu Yan, has anyone from the Black Ice Dragonkin looked for you?”
Chu Yan was lounging lazily, almost in a “Ge You slouch,” sprawled on the chair. At the mention of “Black Ice Dragonkin,” he had a stress response, slipping off the chair onto the floor.
He got up awkwardly, his face tense and embarrassed:
“Executioner, you know about the Black Ice Dragonkin?”
Sosia was curious about his reaction.
Did this guy already know that he had a guardian from the Black Ice Dragonkin? Then how come he didn’t know about Tiffany?
Could it be that Welin thought Tiffany was too unreliable and hadn’t mentioned this woman to Chu Yan?
“Yes, I know everything, Chu Yan. You don’t have to hide anything from me, and I won’t tell others.”
Chu Yan resigned himself to his fate, thinking he could deceive everyone, but the executioner had known all along. Where had things gone wrong?
Could it be that everyone outside now knew that he had killed a mainline descendant of the Black Ice Dragonkin?!
“So, Miss Executioner, you already knew. I’m sorry for the trouble… I did kill Connie Cai and dumped the body in the sea.”
“…Hmm?”
Chapter 39: Can You Keep Up with My Quick Change?
Even the executioner lady, accustomed to the grandeur of life, was momentarily dazed.
She had merely wanted to casually inquire about the three mothers above Chu Yan’s head, which, though also a secret, could still be discussed privately.
How did it suddenly turn into such a shocking “good deed”?
Just a slight touch, and you unleash a major move?
Fortunately, the dragon head mask concealed her astonishment, and the executioner’s surprise remained hidden.
“Connie, is he the only son of Lady Ephelia, tell me the details, why did he appear in the Extreme City, and why did you kill him?”
The woman’s red lips parted slightly, her tone steady and inquiring.
At this moment, she seemed like a stern judge listening to a case, as if she already knew the outcome, only wanting to know the process, everything under her control.
“Okay…”
Just as Chu Yan had stood up, he didn’t notice and lay back down on the ground, like a fish without hope.
A fish returns to its natural habitat, and he still truthfully recounted the situation, naturally not omitting Connie’s bizarre behavior.
“That part about the nightmare bubble, is it definitely not a fabrication?” The executioner coldly pursued.
Not a question.
Her attitude was serious, but she was not standing in the judgment angle of “Chu Yan being guilty”.
From a brief touch, the executioner thought this child was quite honest and straightforward, it was impossible for him to provoke a distant relative without reason.
“At this point, I don’t think fabrications have any use, as a dragon descendant, I am well aware that when a dragon descendant’s heir dies, any reason for the parents of the deceased is unbearable.
I won’t calm down the anger of revenge because of these reasons.”
“Yes, even from what you’ve said, if it wasn’t Connie who died, it would be you.”
“Yes, my parents are not around, they’re away on a journey, no one can support me, not even my own family, who could send me to the edge of the sea…”
This is indeed a situation where one is surrounded by enemies on all sides, like when dealing with the Sirens.
From a conventional perspective, the conflict between Chu Yan and Connie can be seen as a duel between adult dragon descendants.
Connie had initiated this life-and-death battle without calculating the cost, and in the end, the one who died was him, which was Connie’s own choice.
No force, organization, or law can condemn Chu Yan.
However, the law exists only to maintain the power of those in power, and it is always a rule set by those in control.
As both are dragon descendants, Connie’s parents have a very high status and power, far surpassing Chu Yan’s on the surface.
