Episode 28: Because It’s My First Time Being a Dad
In front of the kiosk.
I roll my eyes at the screen. Why is the UI so messy? I fumble around for no reason and leave my fingerprints on the kiosk screen. I press the back button several times.
After a long struggle with the kiosk, I ordered two burger combos. I went to a corner seat and sat down.
I felt the chaotic atmosphere typical of fast food restaurants.
Even the sound of children chattering loudly blends naturally into the scenery.
I sat down and put a French fry in my mouth one by one.
Killing time with some French fries and mumbling.
Only after half of the French fries had disappeared did I spot Chang-seok wandering around the entrance.
“think.”
“Huh? You’re here early.”
Changseok pulls the chair across from him.
As soon as I sit down, I reach for the French fries.
“Everyone is busy except you.”
“Yes. I’ve been practicing for the performance recently. Everyone couldn’t do their own work over the weekend.”
“Still, I’m glad I still have a freeloader like you.”
Changseok looked at me and nodded his head up and down. The white hairs scattered here and there on his head swayed along with him.
Not a freeloader, but a freeloader. Free. Let me be serious like it’s a joke. What the hell. That’s it. Chang-seok responds with a smile.
“Anyway, that’s what it is. What’s going on with the married man? Did he get kicked out again?”
“No. You could call it a considerate husband’s consideration. My wife has suffered a lot. I’m stepping aside for a moment.”
When friends come to the house like today, I have to understand. Chang-seok made a warm expression on his face.
Honestly, it didn’t really suit me, but whatever. I just let it go.
As the ad slogan goes, this will be the first time either of them have become parents.
We were in a clumsy love, learning how to give in to each other step by step.
“Look at this. Isn’t it so cute even when it’s sleeping?”
Angel, angel. Chang-seok swipes the screen to the side. The baby’s pictures flip. Swish. Swish. They flip to the side.
As we look at the photos together, a smile appears on my face without me realizing it.
so.
“The baby is really cute. That’s a good thing. He doesn’t look like you at all.”
I said what a friend should say.
“What are you talking about? You look just like me. Can’t you see the nose and mouth here?”
Chang-seok gives the answer that any father must give.
I said it looks like it’ll be walking soon. It must be walking fast like me. Oh. Here it is. Look closely. Can you see it getting up?
There are videos interspersed throughout. The couple’s laughter is constantly heard from the speakers. The screen keeps shaking up and down.
“Thank goodness. You look good.”
“Then that’s good. You should definitely get married too.”
You must get married. Get married twice. Chang-seok says these words over and over again.
“Okay. What about marriage?”
“Why? I said you have to get married.”
“Honestly, I’m not sure. It’s like someone is taking full responsibility for your life…”
I took responsibility once. It wasn’t easy. A bitter smile spread across my lips as I spoke.
“It’s not about responsibility. Marriage is just about living together and relying on each other.”
If you think this is the one, just go. You’ll be forty soon. You’re lazy by nature, so you need someone to take care of you.
Naturally, Changseok started nagging. My ears were bleeding. Ugh. I don’t want to hear it. I frown and wrinkles form on my forehead.
I felt like he would keep repeating the same thing if I left him alone, so I quickly got up from my seat.
“It’s noisy. Let’s get up quickly.”
“Where are you going? Do you know anywhere nearby?”
No matter how much I gesture for him to get up, Chang-seok still has his butt pressed against the chair and has no intention of getting up.
“I don’t know. I only live in Ansan, so I don’t know much about Seoul. You probably know better. Okay. Just get up.”
“It’s annoying. And I don’t know much about this place either. I have to come to Gangnam for something.”
“Why? It’s your hometown.”
Chang-seok, who hardly moves at all.
I laughed at that sight and joked. No, strictly speaking, I was half joking and half serious.
I thought you transferred from Daechi-dong.
That’s something the kids often say to me.
In fact, it wasn’t me but Chang-seok who transferred from Daechi-dong.
1999. Or 2000. He transferred from Gangnam around the time of the IMF. When he was in elementary school. So, it was before we met.
“Hometown, my ass. When was that? I can’t even remember.”
“But it must have been there until the 5th or 6th grade of elementary school, right?”
“Everything has changed. How much time has passed. And actually, even when I was young, I didn’t remember anything because it was just a repetition of home, school, and academy.”
As he spoke, Chang-seok shook his head from side to side. Looking at his face, it seemed like it wasn’t a very good memory.
Changseok was a good student. He had the best grades among the band members.
Since I was in District 8 and then moved to Dal-dong, in a way it was natural.
But when I first met him, Chang-seok looked far from a typical model student.
Every word, every action was filled with venom.
If he didn’t like something even a little bit, he would pounce on it right away.
You probably had a hard time after moving. As the environment changed, people had to change as well.
Thanks to that, I was a bit over-adapted at the time.
So the kids fought a lot with each other. Only after going through that process were they able to become close to each other.
“Stop standing there and sit down quickly.”
Changseok gestures. It looks like he has no intention of getting up, so I just sit back down.
“Look. Our universe always tries to climb up whenever it sees a high place. Isn’t that just like me? The way I climb up without fear and without hesitation.”
He says something nonsensical and points at the phone screen with his finger.
As he repeats the same words, the corners of Chang-seok’s mouth continue to go up.
If I think back to the old days, people have become a lot more toxic.
Yeah. Look at the kid’s eyes closed. He’s really cute. I also looked at the screen of my phone and followed Changseok’s rhythm.
**
On the way back home from Seoul.
I didn’t have the confidence to wait for the bus that came every 30 or 40 minutes in sub-zero weather, so I just took a taxi.
When I arrived in Ansan by taxi from Gangnam, it was already dark. The asphalt road was submerged in the night.
It’s full-blown winter now. The weather has gotten cold. As soon as I got out of the taxi, I ran straight home.
As I opened the front door and entered the house, I felt a cold air in the living room.
The floor is cold. The cold air comes up through my socks. I walk on my tiptoes, lifting my heels, and turn on the boiler.
‘It’s so cold… Next time, I’ll just pretend to be crazy and turn on the boiler before I go out.’
After a brief moment of thought, I immediately got into bed, pulling the blanket up to my chin.
Lying like a corpse with his hands under the blanket.
Only after the room has become somewhat warm.
“Ah. Good.”
Only then will the words “good” come out of my mouth. I guess I’ll have to take care of myself for a while.
While curled up under the blanket, I took out my cell phone and started playing with it.
Otube, Macbook, website.
Wandering around here and there.
By chance, a post in an overseas developer community caught my eye.
Library related discussion posts.
I clicked on it because I was curious about what it was about.
Spring MVC VS Spring WebFlux.
Synchronous libraries vs asynchronous libraries.
MVC is a library that operates in a synchronous manner.
WebFlux was a library that operated asynchronously.
Well, they all have their pros and cons.
Asynchronous development method has good performance but is difficult to program.
Synchronous development is stable, but its performance is relatively poor compared to asynchronous development.
“It’s strange. This is something that can be discussed.”
There was a heated debate in the comments about the pros and cons.
Actually, I wasn’t interested in this discussion. It wasn’t the content of the discussion that was unfolding in the comments that was important.
I was just jealous of the situation in which this was being discussed.
I was envious of that development environment.
I never had a chance to try asynchronous development… no, to be exact, there was no need to even consider asynchronous development.
Asynchronous development was a development method that did not exist in Joongang Bank, or in ordinary Korean companies.
Except for a few famous domestic big tech companies, development was generally done using the synchronous development method because it was much easier to develop using the synchronous development method.
There are a lot of SI developers who can’t even develop using the synchronous development method.
Asynchronous development in our country?
To exaggerate a bit, it was a development method that you would only hear about in legends.
“I envy you. I envy you.”
I mutter, squirming under the blanket. Warmth envelops my body.
Suddenly, while reading a community post, I became curious about what issues have been going on recently.
“Let’s look for some related library projects.”
With that thought in mind, I logged onto GaetHub with a light heart.
Take a look at some of the issues recently registered in the WebFlux project. Click on the letters you see at the top.
As I read the code with so much focus and strength in my eyes,
The phone screen gradually darkens. Before I know it, my eyelids are slowly drooping.
Bam.
The cell phone fell limply onto the bed.
In that dark room, the cell phone screen was left alone and glowing.
**
In the morning.
As soon as I opened my eyes.
I close my eyes again soon.
I think I’m addicted to sleep.
A life that is becoming more and more lazy.
The longer this lazy life continues, the more.
It was just so good.
Somehow I never get tired of it.
“My older sister really fed me.”
Even after I came to, I just lay there blankly with my eyes closed for a long time.
After falling asleep again in that state and waking up again three or four more times.
I could barely get up.
“Oh my god. I’m dying.”
He slowly got up from his seat, making an old man-like sound.
Since there’s no set schedule today, should I finish looking at the WebFlux project issues I saw yesterday?
I was looking at the code on my phone’s small screen last night and my eyes were so tired.
If I had to make an excuse, I would say I fell asleep without realizing it because of the small screen.
I pressed the power button on my computer, thinking I couldn’t look at the code on my phone anymore.
“Still, I have some understanding of spring.”
Still, it might be a bit more accessible than the others.
Because in order to modify or create a library, you ultimately need to know how it works and its internal structure.
The moment I thought that and was about to close my sister’s room.
At that moment.
-Jiing. Jiing.
The cell phone vibrated.
-Jo Jin-woong, Manager of Jo Sung-eun Bank.
A familiar name appears on the phone screen.
At best, it’s only for a split second, enough to vibrate twice.
In that short moment, a thousand thoughts come to mind.
Numerous assumptions appeared and disappeared in my head.
