Time Mansour - Chapter 29
Only Noblemtl
Episode 29 That’s right, that’s right
After we quit our jobs, we stopped contacting each other.
That fact kept bothering me deep down.
After a brief moment of deliberation, I made up my mind.
“hello.”
I pushed the LCD to the side.
I answer the phone pretending to be calm and indifferent.
“It’s been a while, Director. How have you been?”
“Yes. It’s the same for me. And for you, sir.”
Formal conversation.
A strange awkwardness and distance lingered between the receiver and I.
“I’m sorry. I’m a little late in contacting you. I thought you might be uncomfortable.”
“No, that’s the same for me.”
I answer Manager Cho’s words in a low voice.
A few more awkward words were exchanged, neither uncomfortable nor comfortable.
at last.
“Manager Chae and Director Jeong. How could you all run away and leave me behind? It’s so fatal.”
Manager Cho burst out in complaints. He couldn’t hold it in and let out all the words he had been holding back.
Manager Cho’s grumbling, half resentment and half joke.
To that grumbling.
“You too, Manager, take this opportunity to run away quickly.”
A light joke comes out of my mouth.
A heavy atmosphere gradually rises upward.
“Oh, of course I tried. What do you mean I didn’t try? I applied for a transfer and got rejected every time.”
Manager Cho’s answer rings out on the other end of the phone, accompanied by a deep sigh.
Composition Bank.
It is one of the few large companies that guarantees high salaries and retirement benefits.
That’s because Manager Cho got caught in a bad situation. Usually, the workload wasn’t that high.
To be honest, it’s a job I’d be sad to quit.
“Why? Other departments won’t accept it?”
“That’s not true. The director stopped you from going. He said absolutely not.”
Well, there’s no one else who can do the work besides the manager. I answer with a bitter smile.
“Really. I’m having a hard time these days.”
“Is that okay? The size of the business will continue to grow in the future…”
“It’s not okay. These days, I’m even thinking that it would be better if everything just failed and folded.”
A voice mixed with grumbling comes from the speaker. A sigh is added at the end of each sentence.
Even though I couldn’t see Manager Cho, I could clearly see him with a sad expression on his face.
Manager Cho continues to complain, as if he has had a lot of things piled up for a while.
Two men hold the phone and chat for a while.
The conversation continues on and on, seemingly on the verge of breaking off.
Manager Cho seemed to have something to say, leaving a lingering impression.
“Mr. Director, I have something to talk about when we meet. Do you have time? Let’s have a meal together with Manager Chae.”
It was only when the call was almost over that I cautiously brought up the subject.
I can feel him hesitating even without seeing his face.
Yes, I have a lot of time. I answered nonchalantly.
‘Suddenly? What? What happened? What happened?
Of course, I didn’t think that way inside.
**
WebFlux project.
‘But what’s going on?’
The monitor screen and my thoughts were separate. I couldn’t concentrate at all.
I look at the code and think back to the conversation I just had.
I couldn’t really think of anything for Manager Cho to say.
“I don’t think it’s a work-related issue.”
Although he sometimes got angry, he was not a rude person.
There is no way Manager Cho would ask work-related questions to someone who has resigned.
“I really don’t know.”
After worrying and fretting for a while about nothing.
Eventually I gave up thinking about it and just shook my head from side to side.
Well, you’ll know when you meet me.
I think about it and look at the monitor screen again. I hold the mouse tightly.
“Okay. Okay. Now let’s focus.”
I closed my eyes and opened them slightly. I lightly patted my cheeks with both hands.
Slowly turn the mouse wheel and focus the code on your eyes.
I strained my eyes and started staring intently at the monitor screen.
**
An error occurs.
Several days have passed, but a similar screen is displayed repeatedly on the monitor.
To put it a bit exaggeratedly, in Korea, Spring is Java.
Although I wasn’t in a developer position, I was considered a Spring expert.
So I guess he thought he was a bit close to himself.
Just inside the well.
“It’s so complicated. It’s hard to even understand.”
– Asynchronous network library Leti.
I clicked lightly and then looked at it heavily. I tried to figure out the internal structure, but eventually I took my hand off the mouse.
and.
The level difference is so noticeable. I mutter to myself and a bitter smile comes out without me realizing it.
A genius recognized even outside the well.
Lee Hae-seung.
He is a legendary Korean developer who created open source Leti and Armania.
If you were to ask who is the most famous developer in Korea, you would probably choose this person.
It seems like these people are the ones who make the famous libraries used by developers all over the world.
He was a genius among geniuses.
A person with different innate abilities than me
Will I be able to chase after it? No. Will I be able to even step on its shadow?
Honestly, I don’t know if it’s possible for me to imitate those people at my level.
I’m starting to get a little greedy.
With your butt, not your head.
In my traditional way of putting in the time and producing results.
I want to see the end once.
I stare blankly at the ceiling and think about such useless thoughts.
**
Jazz is playing. The soft music settles over the cafe tables.
I nodded my head while sitting. I just smiled and sang silently.
“You were here.”
I turned my head at the voice of the deputy I heard from over my shoulder.
“hello.”
“I see you a lot these days.”
“That’s right. It just so happened.”
Mr. Chae sits down with a bright smile. He has been smiling more and more recently. It is nice to see him. Mr. Chae’s smile is contagious to me, riding on the winter sunlight.
“But what about Manager Cho?”
“You’re almost there.”
I guess I just have to wait a moment. I nod.
So, light conversations were going on between the tables.
Suddenly.
“Manager Chae. Did you hear anything separately from Manager Cho?”
I asked Manager Chae first to see if he knew anything.
“Huh? You don’t know, sir?”
“yes?”
“Manager Cho, please check your KakaoTalk.”
As soon as I heard Manager Chae’s words, I took out my cell phone and checked it.
As expected, there was no separate message.
“There’s nothing?”
“No. Not the message. This.”
When Manager Chae taps the screen, Manager Jo’s profile picture is enlarged.
In the profile picture.
Next to a woman in a wedding dress.
The image of Manager Cho smiling brightly.
Only then did my eyes widen. I looked at the profile picture with a surprised expression.
**
“Congratulations, Manager Cho.”
Manager Cho looks awkward for no reason at my words. He scratches his head and laughs.
“thank you.”
“Congratulations!”
Mr. Chae clapped his hands lightly, touching the tips of his hands together. Clap. Clap. Clap. He clapped with his mouth, not his palms.
“Here is the invitation.”
“Huh? There’s not much left. You caught the day really quickly.”
“That’s why. I guess you were in a hurry.”
As we spoke, the corners of our lips curled up. We exchanged glances like that. After we were ready to play a prank on Manager Cho, we were about to start the engine.
At that very moment.
“But actually, the director is more urgent.”
Agent Chae betrayed me. She turned around and hit me. She looked at me with resentful eyes.
But whether I did or not, the deputy smiled as usual. No, even brighter than usual.
I was staring at it for a long time because I found that sight so annoying.
“Oh. Right. I heard. You went to Ivero. Congratulations. Manager Chae.”
Manager Cho changes the subject while keeping an eye on things.
“It’s all thanks to you, Director. Thank you so much.”
Manager Chae clasps his hands together and bows his head slightly.
Is it because I just saw the traitor’s appearance?
Manager Chae’s bright smile as he greeted us with thanks.
It just seemed that way.
**
The beer glass is filled with beer. Foam starts to form and then slowly subsides.
I’ll live today. Let’s have a drink. I came into the pub at Manager Cho’s words. There were bottles of alcohol on the table along with snacks to fill my stomach.
“Everyone was running away so I was really… ugh… “
Manager Cho squeezes out tears. He tries his best to squeeze them out.
“That project is dangerous. Manager Cho, you really need to get out of here quickly.”
widely.
Manager Chae puts down his beer glass and says the same thing as I do. He repeats what I said before.
“I know. I know… but there’s no way. All I can do is wait for it to fail.”
“You know, it won’t be easily ruined. It’ll drag on until the very end, and it’ll fail miserably while putting in all its effort.
Everyone nods their heads in agreement with what I say. It is a large-scale project, enough to include a photo of the bank president in the news article. The bank president has pride. He won’t give up easily just because things aren’t going well. He will struggle to survive somehow.
Even if you survive, you will survive with all your body wounded.
In fact, results such as failure or success were not that important to engineers working in the field.
The real problem is the process. The Joongang Bank project was going to be a long and painful process.
“Ha. Please save me. Yes. That’s right. Director Jeong. What are you doing these days?”
“Don’t call me. I won’t come back. I’m busy.”
Who told you to come? Why are you saying that again? That’s not what I said. Manager Cho said as he grabbed my shoulder and shook it.
“What on earth are you busy with? I heard you didn’t go anywhere.”
“I want to try developing it properly on my own.”
“That library? How is it? Is it worth it?”
Manager Chae raises his head and looks at me.
Neither Manager Cho nor Manager Chae are particularly good at development.
I was wondering how I can best express this so that it is understood.
“I think I’m going crazy.”
I answered intuitively.
“Well, it would be difficult. It’s not like Director Jeong continued development either.”
“No. No. A man should not have such small dreams. He should create AI. The current trend. AI.”
Manager Cho keeps saying strange things because he’s in a good mood.
Manager Cho, come to your senses. How can you do that on your own? And not even Tani Stark. This time, I grab Manager Cho by the shoulders and shake him.
Manager Cho laughs while shaking. A frantic conversation goes on and on without anyone knowing what they are saying to each other.
“But Manager Cho, it’s a bit fast.”
“I thought so too. Hasn’t it been a year yet?”
but.
Since we started dating this spring, it felt a little early to get married.
In fact, that’s why I didn’t expect it to be like that.
“I just met him and I knew he was the one.”
“Hey. Isn’t that answer too exemplary?”
I found myself frowning at Manager Cho’s boring answer.
suddenly.
“Could it be an accident?”
Manager Chae covers his mouth with one hand and points to Manager Cho with the other hand, raising a finger.
Manager Cho is flustered, and Assistant Manager Chae keeps pushing.
While having conversations that would not be easy to have between customers and company employees.
Time passes so slowly.
